2 傳道者說：虛空的虛空，虛空的虛空，凡事都是虛空。

3 What4100 profit3504 hath a man120 of all3605 his labor5999 which he taketh7945 5998 under8478 the sun?8121
|
3 人一切的勞碌，就是他在日光之下的勞碌，有甚麼益處呢？
|
|
4 One generation1755 passeth away,1980 and another generation1755 cometh:935 but the earth776 abideth5975 forever.5769
|
4 一代過去，一代又來，地卻永遠長存。
|
|
5 The sun8121 also ariseth,2224 and the sun8121 goeth down,935 and hasteth7602 to413 his place4725 where8033 he1931 arose.2224
|
5 日頭出來，日頭落下，急歸所出之地。
|
|
6 The wind7307 goeth1980 toward413 the south,1864 and turneth about5437 unto413 the north;6828 it whirleth about1980 continually,5437 5437 and the wind7307 returneth again7725 according5921 to his circuits.5439

6 風往南颳，又向北轉，不住地旋轉，而且返回轉行原道。

7 江河都往海裏流，海卻不滿；江河從何處流，仍歸還何處。

8 All3605 things1697 are full of labor;3023 man376 cannot3201 3808 utter1696 it: the eye5869 is not3808 satisfied7646 with seeing,7200 nor3808 the ear241 filled4390 with hearing.4480 8085

8 凡事滿有困乏［All things are full of labour］；人不能說盡。眼看，看不飽；耳聽，聽不足。

9 The thing4100 that hath been,7945 1961 it1931 is that which shall be;7945 1961 and that4100 which is done7945 6213 is that1931 which shall be done:7945 6213 and there is no369 3605 new2319 thing under8478 the sun.8121
|
9 已有的事後必再有；已成［done］的事後必再成［done］。日光之下並無新事。

10 Is there3426 any thing1697 whereof it may be said,7945 559 See,7200 this2088 is new?2319 it1931 hath been1961 already3528 of old time,5769 which834 was1961 before4480 6440 us.

10 豈有甚麼［any］事可以［may］指著說：『看哪［See］，這是新的』？哪知，在我們以前的古時［of old time］早已有了。

11 There is no369 remembrance2146 of former7223 things; neither1571 3808 shall there be1961 any remembrance2146 of things that are to come7945 1961 with5973 those that shall come7945 1961 after.314

11 已過的事［things］，無人記念；將來的事［things］，後來的人也不記念。
|

12 我傳道者在耶路撒冷作過以色列的王。

13 And I gave5414 853 my heart3820 to seek1875 and search out8446 by wisdom2451 concerning5921 all3605 things that834 are done6213 under8478 heaven:8064 this1931 sore7451 travail6045 hath God430 given5414 to the sons1121 of man120 to be exercised6031 therewith.

13 我專心用智慧尋求、查究天下所作的一切事，乃知神叫世人所經練的是極重的勞苦。
|
|
14 I have seen7200 853 all3605 the works4639 that are done7945 6213 under8478 the sun;8121 and, behold,2009 all3605 is vanity1892 and vexation7469 of spirit.7307

14 我見日光之下所作的一切事，誰知［behold］都是虛空，使心靈憂傷［vexation of spirit］。
|

15 That which is crooked5791 cannot3201 3808 be made straight:8626 and that which is wanting2642 cannot3201 3808 be numbered.4487
|
15 彎曲的，不能變直；缺少的，不能足數。
|
|
16 I589 communed1696 with5973 mine own heart,3820 saying,559 Lo,2009 I589 am come to great estate,1431 and have gotten more3254 wisdom2451 than5921 all3605 they that834 have been1961 before6440 me in5921 Jerusalem:3389 yea, my heart3820 had great7235 experience7200 of wisdom2451 and knowledge.1847

16 我心裏議論說：看哪［Lo］，我成了尊貴人［I am come to great estate］，我得了大智慧，勝過我以前在耶路撒冷的眾人，而且我心中多經歷智慧和知識的事。

17 And I gave5414 my heart3820 to know3045 wisdom,2451 and to know3045 madness1947 and folly:5531 I perceived3045 that this2088 also7945 1571 is vexation7475 of spirit.7307

17 我又專心察明智慧、狂妄，和愚昧，乃知這也使心靈憂傷［vexation of spirit］。
|
|
18 For3588 in much7230 wisdom2451 is much7230 grief:3708 and he that increaseth3254 knowledge1847 increaseth3254 sorrow.4341
|
18 因為多有智慧，就多有愁煩；加增知識的，就加增憂傷。
