2 And he sent7971 messengers4397 to413 Ahab256 king4428 of Israel3478 into the city,5892 and said559 unto him, Thus3541 saith559 Ben-hadad,1130
3 Thy silver3701 and thy gold2091is mine; thy wives802 also and thy children,1121even the goodliest,2896are mine.
4 And the king4428 of Israel3478 answered6030 and said,559 My lord,113 O king,4428 according to thy saying,1697 I589am thine, and all3605 that834 I have.
5 And the messengers4397 came again,7725 and said,559 Thus3541 speaketh559 Ben-hadad,1130 saying,559 Although3588 I have sent7971 unto413 thee, saying,559 Thou shalt deliver5414 me thy silver,3701 and thy gold,2091 and thy wives,802 and thy children;1121
6 Yet3588 I will send7971853 my servants5650 unto413 thee tomorrow4279 about518 this time,6256 and they shall search2664853 thine house,1004 and the houses1004 of thy servants;5650 and it shall be,1961that whatsoever3605 is pleasant4261 in thine eyes,5869 they shall put7760it in their hand,3027 and take it away.3947
7 Then the king4428 of Israel3478 called7121 all3605 the elders2205 of the land,776 and said,559 Mark,3045 I pray you,4994 and see7200 how3588 this2088man seeketh1245 mischief:7451 for3588 he sent7971 unto413 me for my wives,802 and for my children,1121 and for my silver,3701 and for my gold;2091 and I denied45134480 him not.3808
8 And all3605 the elders2205 and all3605 the people5971 said559 unto413 him, Hearken8085 not408unto him, nor3808 consent.14
9 Wherefore he said559 unto the messengers4397 of Ben-hadad,1130 Tell559 my lord113 the king,4428 All3605 that834 thou didst send7971 for to413 thy servant5650 at the first7223 I will do:6213 but this2088 thing1697 I may3201 not3808 do.6213 And the messengers4397 departed,1980 and brought7725 him word1697 again.
10 And Ben-hadad1130 sent7971 unto413 him, and said,559 The gods430 do6213 so3541 unto me, and more3254 also,3541 if518 the dust6083 of Samaria8111 shall suffice5606 for handfuls8168 for all3605 the people5971 that834 follow7272 me.
11 And the king4428 of Israel3478 answered6030 and said,559 Tell1696him, Let not408 him that girdeth2296 on his harness boast himself1984 as he that putteth it off.6605
12 And it came to pass,1961 when Ben-hadad heard8085853 this2088 message,1697 as he1931was drinking,8354 he1931 and the kings4428 in the pavilions,5521 that he said559 unto413 his servants,5650 Set7760yourselves in array. And they set7760themselves in array against5921 the city.5892
13 And, behold,2009 there came5066 a259 prophet5030 unto413 Ahab256 king4428 of Israel,3478 saying,559 Thus3541 saith559 the LORD,3068 Hast thou seen7200853 all3605 this2088 great1419 multitude?1995 behold,2009 I will deliver5414 it into thine hand3027 this day;3117 and thou shalt know3045 that3588 I589am the LORD.3068
14 And Ahab256 said,559 By whom?4310 And he said,559 Thus3541 saith559 the LORD,3068Even by the young men5288 of the princes8269 of the provinces.4082 Then he said,559 Who4310 shall order631 the battle?4421 And he answered,559 Thou.859
15 Then he numbered6485853 the young men5288 of the princes8269 of the provinces,4082 and they were1961 two hundred3967 and thirty7970 two:8147 and after310 them he numbered6485853 all3605 the people,5971even all3605 the children1121 of Israel,3478being seven7651 thousand.505
16 And they went out3318 at noon.6672 But Ben-hadad1130was drinking8354 himself drunk7910 in the pavilions,5521 he1931 and the kings,4428 the thirty7970 and two8147 kings4428 that helped5826 him.
17 And the young men5288 of the princes8269 of the provinces4082 went out3318 first;7223 and Ben-hadad1130 sent out,7971 and they told5046 him, saying,559 There are men376 come out3318 of Samaria.44808111
18 And he said,559 Whether518 they be come out3318 for peace,7965 take8610 them alive;2416 or whether518 they be come out3318 for war,4421 take8610 them alive.2416
19 So these428 young men5288 of the princes8269 of the provinces4082 came out3318 of4480 the city,5892 and the army2428 which834 followed310 them.
20 And they slew5221 every one376 his man:376 and the Syrians758 fled;5127 and Israel3478 pursued7291 them: and Ben-hadad1130 the king4428 of Syria758 escaped4422 on5921 a horse5483 with the horsemen.6571
21 And the king4428 of Israel3478 went out,3318 and smote5221853 the horses5483 and chariots,7393 and slew5221 the Syrians758 with a great1419 slaughter.4347
22 And the prophet5030 came5066 to413 the king4428 of Israel,3478 and said559 unto him, Go,1980 strengthen thyself,2388 and mark,3045 and see7200853 what834 thou doest:6213 for3588 at the return8666 of the year8141 the king4428 of Syria758 will come up5927 against5921 thee.
23 And the servants5650 of the king4428 of Syria758 said559 unto413 him, Their gods430are gods430 of the hills;2022 therefore59213651 they were stronger2388 than4480 we; but199 let us fight3898 against854 them in the plain,4334 and surely,518 we shall be stronger38082388 than4480 they.
24 And do6213 this2088 thing,1697 Take the kings away,54934428 every man376 out of his place,44804725 and put7760 captains6346 in their rooms: 8478
25 And number8594487 thee an army,2428 like the army2428 that thou hast lost,53074480853 horse5483 for horse,5483 and chariot7393 for chariot:7393 and we will fight against3898 them in the plain,4334and surely5183808 we shall be stronger2388 than4480 they. And he hearkened8085 unto their voice,6963 and did6213 so.3651
26 And it came to pass1961 at the return8666 of the year,8141 that Ben-hadad1130 numbered6485853 the Syrians,758 and went up5927 to Aphek,663 to fight4421 against5973 Israel.3478
27 And the children1121 of Israel3478 were numbered,6485 and were all present,3557 and went1980 against7121 them: and the children1121 of Israel3478 pitched2583 before5048 them like two8147 little flocks2835 of kids;5795 but the Syrians758 filled4390853 the country.776
28 And there came5066 a man376 of God,430 and spoke559 unto413 the king4428 of Israel,3478 and said,559 Thus3541 saith559 the LORD,3068 Because3282834 the Syrians758 have said,559 The LORD3068is God430 of the hills,2022 but he1931is not3808 God430 of the valleys,6010 therefore will I deliver5414853 all3605 this2088 great1419 multitude1995 into thine hand,3027 and ye shall know3045 that3588 I589am the LORD.3068
29 And they pitched2583 one428 over against5227 the other428 seven7651 days.3117 And so it was,1961 that in the seventh7637 day3117 the battle4421 was joined:7126 and the children1121 of Israel3478 slew5221 of853 the Syrians758 a hundred3967 thousand505 footmen7273 in one259 day.3117
30 But the rest3498 fled5127 to Aphek,663 into413 the city;5892 and there a wall2346 fell5307 upon5921 twenty6242 and seven7651 thousand505 of the men376that were left.3498 And Ben-hadad1130 fled,5127 and came935 into413 the city,5892 into an inner chamber.23152315
31 And his servants5650 said559 unto413 him, Behold2009 now,4994 we have heard8085 that3588 the kings4428 of the house1004 of Israel3478are merciful2617 kings:4428 let us, I pray thee,4994 put7760 sackcloth8242 on our loins,4975 and ropes2256 upon our heads,7218 and go out3318 to413 the king4428 of Israel:3478 peradventure194 he will save2421853 thy life.5315
32 So they girded2296 sackcloth8242 on their loins,4975 and put ropes2256 on their heads,7218 and came935 to413 the king4428 of Israel,3478 and said,559 Thy servant5650 Ben-hadad1130 saith,559 I pray thee,4994 let me5315 live.2421 And he said,559Is he yet5750 alive?2416 he1931is my brother.251
33 Now the men376 did diligently observe5172 whether any thing would come from4480 him, and did hastily4116 catch2480it: and they said,559 Thy brother251 Ben-hadad.1130 Then he said,559 Go935 ye, bring3947 him. Then Ben-hadad1130 came forth3318 to413 him; and he caused him to come up5927 into5921 the chariot.4818
34 And Ben-hadad said559 unto413 him, The cities,5892 which834 my father1 took3947 from4480854 thy father,1 I will restore;7725 and thou shalt make7760 streets2351 for thee in Damascus,1834 as834 my father1 made7760 in Samaria.8111 Then said Ahab, I589 will send thee away7971 with this covenant.1285 So he made3772 a covenant1285 with him, and sent him away.7971
35 And a certain259 man376 of the sons44801121 of the prophets5030 said559 unto413 his neighbor7453 in the word1697 of the LORD,3068 Smite5221 me, I pray thee.4994 And the man376 refused3985 to smite5221 him.
36 Then said559 he unto him, Because3282834 thou hast not3808 obeyed8085 the voice6963 of the LORD,3068 behold,2009 as soon as thou art departed1980 from4480853 me, a lion738 shall slay5221 thee. And as soon as he was departed1980 from4480681 him, a lion738 found4672 him, and slew5221 him.
37 Then he found4672 another312 man,376 and said,559 Smite5221 me, I pray thee.4994 And the man376 smote5221 him, so that in smiting5221 he wounded6481him.
38 So the prophet5030 departed,1980 and waited5975 for the king4428 by5921 the way,1870 and disguised himself2664 with ashes666 upon5921 his face.5869
39 And as1961 the king4428 passed by,5674 he1931 cried6817 unto413 the king:4428 and he said,559 Thy servant5650 went out3318 into the midst7130 of the battle;4421 and, behold,2009 a man376 turned aside,5493 and brought935 a man376 unto413 me, and said,559 Keep8104853 this2088 man:376 if518 by any means he be missing,64856485 then shall thy life5315 be1961 for8478 his life,5315 or176 else thou shalt pay8254 a talent3603 of silver.3701
40 And as thy servant5650 was1961 busy6213 here2008 and there,2008 he1931 was gone.369 And the king4428 of Israel3478 said559 unto413 him, So3651shall thy judgment4941be; thyself859 hast decided2782it.
41 And he hasted,4116 and took5493853 the ashes666 away from44805921 his face;5869 and the king4428 of Israel3478 discerned5234 him that3588 he1931was of the prophets.44805030
42 And he said559 unto413 him, Thus3541 saith559 the LORD,3068 Because3282 thou hast let go7971 out of thy hand44803027853 a man376 whom I appointed to utter destruction,2764 therefore thy life5315 shall go1961 for8478 his life,5315 and thy people5971 for8478 his people.5971
43 And the king4428 of Israel3478 went1980 to5921 his house1004 heavy5620 and displeased,2198 and came935 to Samaria.8111

15 Then he numbered6485853 the young men5288 of the princes8269 of the provinces,4082 and they were1961 two hundred3967 and thirty7970 two:8147 and after310 them he numbered6485853 all3605 the people,5971even all3605 the children1121 of Israel,3478being seven7651 thousand.505

16 And they went out3318 at noon.6672 But Ben-hadad1130was drinking8354 himself drunk7910 in the pavilions,5521 he1931 and the kings,4428 the thirty7970 and two8147 kings4428 that helped5826 him.

18 And he said,559 Whether518 they be come out3318 for peace,7965 take8610 them alive;2416 or whether518 they be come out3318 for war,4421 take8610 them alive.2416
18 И он сказал: «Может быть, они вышли воевать, а может быть, вышли просить мира. Схватите их живыми».
19 So these428 young men5288 of the princes8269 of the provinces4082 came out3318 of4480 the city,5892 and the army2428 which834 followed310 them.
19 Молодые слуги областных правителей первыми пошли в атаку. И всё израильское войско следовало за ними.
20 And they slew5221 every one376 his man:376 and the Syrians758 fled;5127 and Israel3478 pursued7291 them: and Ben-hadad1130 the king4428 of Syria758 escaped4422 on5921 a horse5483 with the horsemen.6571

21 And the king4428 of Israel3478 went out,3318 and smote5221853 the horses5483 and chariots,7393 and slew5221 the Syrians758 with a great1419 slaughter.4347

22 And the prophet5030 came5066 to413 the king4428 of Israel,3478 and said559 unto him, Go,1980 strengthen thyself,2388 and mark,3045 and see7200853 what834 thou doest:6213 for3588 at the return8666 of the year8141 the king4428 of Syria758 will come up5927 against5921 thee.
22 Тогда к израильскому царю подошёл пророк и сказал: «Следующей весной сирийский царь Венадад снова пойдёт против тебя. Ты должен сейчас пойти и укрепить своё войско и составить план действий».
23 And the servants5650 of the king4428 of Syria758 said559 unto413 him, Their gods430are gods430 of the hills;2022 therefore59213651 they were stronger2388 than4480 we; but199 let us fight3898 against854 them in the plain,4334 and surely,518 we shall be stronger38082388 than4480 they.
23 Слуги царя Венадада сказали ему: «Боги Израиля являются богами гор. Мы сражались с ними в горной местности, и поэтому они одолели нас. Давай сразимся с ними на равнине, тогда мы победим.

25 And number8594487 thee an army,2428 like the army2428 that thou hast lost,53074480853 horse5483 for horse,5483 and chariot7393 for chariot:7393 and we will fight against3898 them in the plain,4334and surely5183808 we shall be stronger2388 than4480 they. And he hearkened8085 unto their voice,6963 and did6213 so.3651

26 And it came to pass1961 at the return8666 of the year,8141 that Ben-hadad1130 numbered6485853 the Syrians,758 and went up5927 to Aphek,663 to fight4421 against5973 Israel.3478

27 And the children1121 of Israel3478 were numbered,6485 and were all present,3557 and went1980 against7121 them: and the children1121 of Israel3478 pitched2583 before5048 them like two8147 little flocks2835 of kids;5795 but the Syrians758 filled4390853 the country.776

28 Божий человек подошёл к израильскому царю и сказал: «Господь говорит: „Сирийцы сказали, что Я, Господь, являюсь Богом гор, а не Богом долин. Я позволю тебе сегодня разбить это огромное полчище. Тогда ты будешь знать, что Я — Господь, находящийся повсюду!”»
29 And they pitched2583 one428 over against5227 the other428 seven7651 days.3117 And so it was,1961 that in the seventh7637 day3117 the battle4421 was joined:7126 and the children1121 of Israel3478 slew5221 of853 the Syrians758 a hundred3967 thousand505 footmen7273 in one259 day.3117
29 Войска стояли друг против друга семь дней, и на седьмой день началась битва. Израильтяне убили сто тысяч сирийцев в один день.
30 But the rest3498 fled5127 to Aphek,663 into413 the city;5892 and there a wall2346 fell5307 upon5921 twenty6242 and seven7651 thousand505 of the men376that were left.3498 And Ben-hadad1130 fled,5127 and came935 into413 the city,5892 into an inner chamber.23152315

31 And his servants5650 said559 unto413 him, Behold2009 now,4994 we have heard8085 that3588 the kings4428 of the house1004 of Israel3478are merciful2617 kings:4428 let us, I pray thee,4994 put7760 sackcloth8242 on our loins,4975 and ropes2256 upon our heads,7218 and go out3318 to413 the king4428 of Israel:3478 peradventure194 he will save2421853 thy life.5315
31 Слуги сказали ему: «Мы слышали, что израильские цари милостивы. Позволь нам пойти к израильскому царю в мешковине и с верёвками на голове. Может быть, он пощадит твою жизнь».
32 So they girded2296 sackcloth8242 on their loins,4975 and put ropes2256 on their heads,7218 and came935 to413 the king4428 of Israel,3478 and said,559 Thy servant5650 Ben-hadad1130 saith,559 I pray thee,4994 let me5315 live.2421 And he said,559Is he yet5750 alive?2416 he1931is my brother.251

33 Now the men376 did diligently observe5172 whether any thing would come from4480 him, and did hastily4116 catch2480it: and they said,559 Thy brother251 Ben-hadad.1130 Then he said,559 Go935 ye, bring3947 him. Then Ben-hadad1130 came forth3318 to413 him; and he caused him to come up5927 into5921 the chariot.4818

34 And Ben-hadad said559 unto413 him, The cities,5892 which834 my father1 took3947 from4480854 thy father,1 I will restore;7725 and thou shalt make7760 streets2351 for thee in Damascus,1834 as834 my father1 made7760 in Samaria.8111 Then said Ahab, I589 will send thee away7971 with this covenant.1285 So he made3772 a covenant1285 with him, and sent him away.7971
34 Венадад сказал ему: «Ахав, я отдам тебе города, которые мой отец отобрал у твоего отца. И ты можешь построить свои торговые площади в Дамаске, как мой отец сделал в Самарии». 35 And a certain259 man376 of the sons44801121 of the prophets5030 said559 unto413 his neighbor7453 in the word1697 of the LORD,3068 Smite5221 me, I pray thee.4994 And the man376 refused3985 to smite5221 him.
35 По велению Господа один пророк сказал другому пророку: «Бей меня!» Но тот отказался.
36 Then said559 he unto him, Because3282834 thou hast not3808 obeyed8085 the voice6963 of the LORD,3068 behold,2009 as soon as thou art departed1980 from4480853 me, a lion738 shall slay5221 thee. And as soon as he was departed1980 from4480681 him, a lion738 found4672 him, and slew5221 him.
36 Тогда первый пророк сказал: «За то, что ты не подчинился приказу Господа, как только ты уйдёшь от меня, тебя убьёт лев». И после того как человек ушёл оттуда, его встретил лев и убил.
37 Then he found4672 another312 man,376 and said,559 Smite5221 me, I pray thee.4994 And the man376 smote5221 him, so that in smiting5221 he wounded6481him.
37 Первый пророк нашёл другого человека и сказал ему: «Бей меня!» Тогда этот человек ударил его и покалечил.
38 So the prophet5030 departed,1980 and waited5975 for the king4428 by5921 the way,1870 and disguised himself2664 with ashes666 upon5921 his face.5869
38 Затем пророк закрыл своё лицо покрывалом, чтобы никто не мог видеть, кто он, пошёл и встал у дороги, ожидая царя.
39 And as1961 the king4428 passed by,5674 he1931 cried6817 unto413 the king:4428 and he said,559 Thy servant5650 went out3318 into the midst7130 of the battle;4421 and, behold,2009 a man376 turned aside,5493 and brought935 a man376 unto413 me, and said,559 Keep8104853 this2088 man:376 if518 by any means he be missing,64856485 then shall thy life5315 be1961 for8478 his life,5315 or176 else thou shalt pay8254 a talent3603 of silver.3701
39 Когда царь проезжал мимо, пророк сказал ему: «Я ходил на сражение. Один из наших людей привёл ко мне воина, взятого в плен, и сказал: „Охраняй этого человека. Если он убежит, тебе придётся отдать свою жизнь вместо него или заплатить штраф в талант серебра”.
40 And as thy servant5650 was1961 busy6213 here2008 and there,2008 he1931 was gone.369 And the king4428 of Israel3478 said559 unto413 him, So3651shall thy judgment4941be; thyself859 hast decided2782it.
40 Но я занялся другими делами, и тот человек убежал». И сказал царь Израиля: «Ты сам сказал, что виноват, позволив воину убежать. Поэтому ты знаешь ответ: ты должен сделать то, что тебе сказали».
41 And he hasted,4116 and took5493853 the ashes666 away from44805921 his face;5869 and the king4428 of Israel3478 discerned5234 him that3588 he1931was of the prophets.44805030
41 Тогда пророк быстро снял покрывало с головы. Израильский царь увидел, что этот человек был одним из пророков.
42 And he said559 unto413 him, Thus3541 saith559 the LORD,3068 Because3282 thou hast let go7971 out of thy hand44803027853 a man376 whom I appointed to utter destruction,2764 therefore thy life5315 shall go1961 for8478 his life,5315 and thy people5971 for8478 his people.5971
42 Пророк сказал царю: «Так говорит Господь: „Ты отпустил человека, который должен был умереть. Поэтому ты займёшь его место, ты умрёшь вместо него. И твои люди займут место его людей, твои люди умрут вместо врагов!”»
43 And the king4428 of Israel3478 went1980 to5921 his house1004 heavy5620 and displeased,2198 and came935 to Samaria.8111
