2 Берись за жернова — муку мели, сбрось покрывало, подбери подол — и через реки, голоногой, вброд иди.
3 Откроется всем нагота твоя, и срам твой оголится. Я отомщу — не воспротивится никто!»
4 Святой Бог Израилев — Избавитель наш, ГОСПОДЬ Воинств — имя Его.
5 «Сиди в безмолвии, во тьме сокройся, дочь халдеев, владычицей царей тебя уже не назовут!
6 Прогневался Я на народ Мой, удел Свой собственный Я разорил, в руки твои предал виновных — не была ты к ним милостива, даже на старца налагала тяжкую ношу.
7 Говорила: „Владычество мое вечно“, — и не задумывалась о том, что будет в конце, об этом и не помышляла.
8 Слушай же теперь, изнеженная: ты сидишь беззаботно, говоришь себе самой: „Нет мне в мире подобной! Никогда не останусь вдовою, не узнаю, каково это — терять детей“.
9 Обе беды нагрянут к тебе разом, в один день — вдовство и потеря детей — сполна придется тебе их изведать, сколь ни сильна ты в своем чародействе, сколь ни владеешь ты волшебством.
10 Уповала ты на свое злодейство, приговаривала: „Никто меня не видит“. Сбило тебя с пути твое многознание, сама себе говорила ты: „Нет мне в мире подобной!“
11 Нагрянет беда — не помогут тебе чародейства; несчастье придет — не сможешь его отвратить, погибель настигнет, неведомая прежде.
12 Так давай займись волхвованием и всеми своими чародействами, в которых ты с юности преуспевала, глядишь, помогут они тебе, может, кого и напугаешь?
13 Утомилась ты, собирая частые советы, — так пусть теперь выступят звездочеты, пусть спасут тебя предсказатели, предрекающие твою судьбу по новой луне.
14 Но они, как солома, в огне сгорели, не спасли даже самих себя от пламени, не осталось от них ни углей, чтобы согреться, ни огня, чтобы перед ним посидеть.
15 Вот что сталось с теми, с кем ты делила труды, с кем вела дела от самой своей юности, — разбрелись все в разные стороны, и некому больше спасти тебя».
