1 Но вскоре отправились сыны Израиля дальше и остановились на равнинах Моава, близ Иордана, на другом берегу которого был Иерихон.

2 Балак, сын Циппора, узнал обо всем, что сделал Израиль с амореями,

3 и устрашились жители Моава нашествия этого народа, ведь он был так многочислен! Страх перед сынами Израилевыми обуял моавитян,

4 и они обратились к старейшинам Мидьяна: «Это полчище слижет всё дочиста вокруг нас, как корова языком траву на поле». Тогда же Балак, сын Циппора, — он был царем Моава в то время —

5 отправил своих посланцев позвать Валаама, сына Беора, который жил в Петоре, что у реки Евфрат, в своей родной стране, и поручил сказать ему: «Знай, что некий народ вышел из Египта и заполоняет ныне все земли вокруг и стоит уже у самой двери моей.

6 Приди немедленно и на народ сей призови проклятие, сделай это мне в помощь, ибо он сильнее меня. Может, удастся мне тогда одолеть его и изгнать из страны. Ведь знаю я: благословен тот, кого ты благословишь, и проклят тот, кого проклянешь».

7 Старейшины Моава и Мидьяна взяли с собой вознаграждение за прорицание и, придя к Валааму, передали ему слова Балака.

8 «Переночуйте нынче здесь, — предложил он, — а утром я скажу вам, какой ответ даст мне ГОСПОДЬ». И остались князья моавитские и мидьянские у Валаама.

9 Бог явился Валааму во сне и спросил: «Что это за люди у тебя?»

10 Валаам ответил: «Их прислал ко мне царь Моава Балак, сын Циппора, с такими словами:

11 „Знай же, тот народ, что вышел из Египта, заполоняет все земли вокруг. Приди ныне и призови проклятие на тот народ ради меня. Может, я смогу победить и изгнать его“».

12 Бог на это сказал Валааму: «Не ходи с ними. Не проклинай тот народ, ибо он благословен».

13 И вот встал Валаам поутру и сказал пришедшим от Балака князьям: «Возвращайтесь в землю вашу. ГОСПОДУ неугодно, чтобы пошел я с вами».

14 Князья моавитские вернулись к Балаку и доложили ему: «Не согласился Валаам идти с нами».

15 Балак послал других князей, почитаемых более прежних, и числом их было больше.

16 Те пришли к Валааму и снова стали уговаривать его: «Балак, сын Циппора, очень просил тебя прийти к нему.

17 „Великие почести, — обещал он, — окажу я тебе и всё, о чем ни попросишь меня, сделаю для тебя. Приди же проклясть этот народ“».

18 Но Валаам так отвечал посланцам Балака: «Даже если Балак даст мне дворец свой, набитый серебром и золотом, я не смогу поступить наперекор повелению ГОСПОДА, Бога моего, ни в малом деле, ни в великом.

19 Впрочем, останьтесь и вы на ночь, а я узнаю, что еще скажет мне ГОСПОДЬ».

20 И Бог вновь явился Валааму ночью и сказал ему: «Раз уж пришли к тебе эти люди и зовут тебя, встань и пойди с ними, но делай там только то, что Я повелю тебе».

21 Поутру Валаам встал, оседлал ослицу и отправился с князьями Моава.

22 И когда Валаам продолжал свой путь, разгневался на него Бог, и Ангел ГОСПОДЕНЬ преградил ему дорогу (а Валаам ехал верхом на ослице в сопровождении двух своих слуг).

23 Увидев Ангела ГОСПОДНЯ с обнаженным мечом в руке, ослица свернула с дороги и пошла полем. Валаам стал бить ослицу, чтобы та вернулась на дорогу.

24 Тогда Ангел ГОСПОДЕНЬ встал перед ними на тропе между виноградниками, обнесенными каменными оградами.

25 Увидев Ангела ГОСПОДНЕГО, ослица, прижимаясь к стене, придавила к ней ногу Валаама. Он снова стал бить ее.

26 Ангел ГОСПОДЕНЬ встал у них на пути в другом месте, столь узком, что нельзя было свернуть ни вправо, ни влево.

27 Увидев опять Ангела ГОСПОДНЕГО, ослица легла на тропинке. Рассвирепел тогда Валаам и нещадно стал бить ослицу палкой.

28 А ГОСПОДЬ наделил ослицу даром речи, и возопила она к Валааму: «Что сделала я тебе, почему в третий уже раз бьешь меня?»

29 Валаам ответил ей: «Да ведь ты издеваешься надо мной! Будь в руке моей меч, тут же убил бы тебя!»

30 Но возразила ослица: «Разве я не та ослица, на которой ты ездил всю свою жизнь? Поступала ли я когда с тобою так, как сегодня?» Валаам ответил: «Нет».

31 И открыл тогда ГОСПОДЬ Валааму глаза, и он увидел Ангела ГОСПОДНЕГО, стоявшего на дороге с обнаженным мечом в руке. Низко склонился Валаам перед Ангелом и пал ниц.

32 Обличил его Ангел ГОСПОДЕНЬ: «За что бил ты ослицу свою эти три раза? Ведь это Я пришел остановить тебя — зло ты делаешь предо Мною.

33 Ослица увидела Меня и трижды уклонилась. Если бы не отпрянула она, Я бы убил тебя, а ее пощадил».

34 «Согрешил я, — ответил Валаам Ангелу ГОСПОДНЮ, — но я ведь и не знал, что Ты стоишь на дороге. Но если Ты против, я вернусь».

35 Ангел ГОСПОДЕНЬ сказал ему: «Продолжай путь, иди с этими людьми. Только говори лишь те слова, что Я скажу тебе». И пошел Валаам далее за князьями Балака.

36 Услышав, что Валаам приближается, Балак выехал ему навстречу и у Ара в земле моавитской, на берегу Арнона, у самой границы страны, встретил его.

37 И упрекнул его Балак: «Не посылал ли я много раз за тобой, призывая тебя на помощь? Почему же не шел ты ко мне? Неужели думал, что не смогу я воздать тебе почести?»

38 «Вот я и пришел, как ты видишь, — ответил Валаам. — Но разве в моей власти говорить что-либо от себя? Скажу лишь те слова, которые Бог вложит в мои уста».

39 И пошел Валаам с Балаком далее, пока не пришли они в Кирьят-Хуцот,

40 где Балак заколол в жертву быков и овец и части от них дал Валааму и тем князьям, что сопровождали его.

41 А утром Балак позвал Валаама с собою и возвел его на холмы Баала. Оттуда увидели они край огромного стана израильского.

3 And Moab4124 was sore afraid1481 3966 of4480 6440 the people,5971 because3588 they1931 were many:7227 and Moab4124 was distressed6973 because4480 6440 of the children1121 of Israel.3478

4 And Moab4124 said559 unto413 the elders2205 of Midian,4080 Now6258 shall this company6951 lick up3897 853 all3605 that are round about5439 us, as the ox7794 licketh up3897 853 the grass3418 of the field.7704 And Balak1111 the son1121 of Zippor6834 was king4428 of the Moabites4124 at that1931 time.6256

5 He sent7971 messengers4397 therefore unto413 Balaam1109 the son1121 of Beor1160 to Pethor,6604 which834 is by5921 the river5104 of the land776 of the children1121 of his people,5971 to call7121 him, saying,559 Behold,2009 there is a people5971 come out3318 from Egypt:4480 4714 behold,2009 they cover3680 853 the face5869 of the earth,776 and they1931 abide3427 over against4480 4136 me:

6 Come1980 now6258 therefore, I pray thee,4994 curse779 me853 this2088 people;5971 for3588 they1931 are too mighty for6099 4480 me: peradventure194 I shall prevail,3201 that we may smite5221 them, and that I may drive them out1644 of4480 the land:776 for3588 I know3045 853 that he whom834 thou blessest1288 is blessed,1288 and he whom834 thou cursest779 is cursed.779

7 And the elders2205 of Moab4124 and the elders2205 of Midian4080 departed1980 with the rewards of divination7081 in their hand;3027 and they came935 unto413 Balaam,1109 and spoke1696 unto413 him the words1697 of Balak.1111

8 And he said559 unto413 them, Lodge3885 here6311 this night,3915 and I will bring7725 you word1697 again, as834 the LORD3068 shall speak1696 unto413 me: and the princes8269 of Moab4124 abode3427 with5973 Balaam.1109

9 And God430 came935 unto413 Balaam,1109 and said,559 What4310 men376 are these428 with5973 thee?

10 And Balaam1109 said559 unto413 God,430 Balak1111 the son1121 of Zippor,6834 king4428 of Moab,4124 hath sent7971 unto413 me, saying,

11 Behold,2009 there is a people5971 come out3318 of Egypt,4480 4714 which covereth3680 853 the face5869 of the earth:776 come1980 now,6258 curse6895 me them; peradventure194 I shall be able3201 to overcome3898 them, and drive them out.1644

12 And God430 said559 unto413 Balaam,1109 Thou shalt not3808 go1980 with5973 them; thou shalt not3808 curse779 853 the people:5971 for3588 they1931 are blessed.1288

13 And Balaam1109 rose up6965 in the morning,1242 and said559 unto413 the princes8269 of Balak,1111 Get1980 you into413 your land:776 for3588 the LORD3068 refuseth3985 to give me leave5414 to go1980 with5973 you.

14 And the princes8269 of Moab4124 rose up,6965 and they went935 unto413 Balak,1111 and said,559 Balaam1109 refuseth3985 to come1980 with5973 us.

15 And Balak1111 sent7971 yet5750 again3254 princes,8269 more,7227 and more honorable3513 than they.4480 428

16 And they came935 to413 Balaam,1109 and said559 to him, Thus3541 saith559 Balak1111 the son1121 of Zippor,6834 Let nothing,408 I pray thee,4994 hinder4513 thee from coming4480 1980 unto413 me:

17 For3588 I will promote thee unto very great honor,3513 3513 3966 and I will do6213 whatsoever3605 834 thou sayest559 unto413 me: come1980 therefore, I pray thee,4994 curse6895 me853 this2088 people.5971

18 And Balaam1109 answered6030 and said559 unto413 the servants5650 of Balak,1111 If518 Balak1111 would give5414 me his house1004 full4393 of silver3701 and gold,2091 I cannot3201 3808 go beyond5674 853 the word6310 of the LORD3068 my God,430 to do6213 less6996 or176 more.1419

19 Now6258 therefore, I pray you,4994 tarry3427 ye859 also1571 here2088 this night,3915 that I may know3045 what4100 the LORD3068 will say1696 unto5973 me more.3254

20 And God430 came935 unto413 Balaam1109 at night,3915 and said559 unto him, If518 the men376 come935 to call7121 thee, rise up,6965 and go1980 with854 them; but yet389 853 the word1697 which834 I shall say1696 unto413 thee, that shalt thou do.6213

21 And Balaam1109 rose up6965 in the morning,1242 and saddled2280 853 his ass,860 and went1980 with5973 the princes8269 of Moab.4124

22 And God's430 anger639 was kindled2734 because3588 he1931 went:1980 and the angel4397 of the LORD3068 stood3320 in the way1870 for an adversary7854 against him. Now he1931 was riding7392 upon5921 his ass,860 and his two8147 servants5288 were with5973 him.

23 And the ass860 saw7200 853 the angel4397 of the LORD3068 standing5324 in the way,1870 and his sword2719 drawn8025 in his hand:3027 and the ass860 turned aside5186 out of4480 the way,1870 and went1980 into the field:7704 and Balaam1109 smote5221 853 the ass,860 to turn5186 her into the way.1870

24 But the angel4397 of the LORD3068 stood5975 in a path4934 of the vineyards,3754 a wall1447 being on this side,4480 2088 and a wall1447 on that side.4480 2088

25 And when the ass860 saw7200 853 the angel4397 of the LORD,3068 she thrust herself3905 unto413 the wall,7023 and crushed3905 853 Balaam's1109 foot7272 against413 the wall:7023 and he smote5221 her again.3254

26 And the angel4397 of the LORD3068 went5674 further,3254 and stood5975 in a narrow6862 place,4725 where834 was no369 way1870 to turn5186 either to the right hand3225 or to the left.8040

27 And when the ass860 saw7200 853 the angel4397 of the LORD,3068 she fell down7257 under8478 Balaam:1109 and Balaam's1109 anger639 was kindled,2734 and he smote5221 853 the ass860 with a staff.4731

28 And the LORD3068 opened6605 853 the mouth6310 of the ass,860 and she said559 unto Balaam,1109 What4100 have I done6213 unto thee, that3588 thou hast smitten5221 me these2088 three7969 times?7272

29 And Balaam1109 said559 unto the ass,860 Because3588 thou hast mocked5953 me: I would3863 there were3426 a sword2719 in mine hand,3027 for3588 now6258 would I kill2026 thee.

30 And the ass860 said559 unto413 Balaam,1109 Am not3808 I595 thine ass,860 upon5921 which834 thou hast ridden7392 ever since4480 5750 I was thine unto5704 this2088 day?3117 was I ever wont5532 5532 to do6213 so3541 unto thee? And he said,559 Nay.3808

31 Then the LORD3068 opened1540 853 the eyes5869 of Balaam,1109 and he saw7200 853 the angel4397 of the LORD3068 standing5324 in the way,1870 and his sword2719 drawn8025 in his hand:3027 and he bowed down his head,6915 and fell flat7812 on his face.639

32 And the angel4397 of the LORD3068 said559 unto413 him, Wherefore5921 4100 hast thou smitten5221 853 thine ass860 these2088 three7969 times?7272 behold,2009 I595 went out3318 to withstand7854 thee, because3588 thy way1870 is perverse3399 before5048 me:

33 And the ass860 saw7200 me, and turned5186 from6440 me these2088 three7969 times:7272 unless194 she had turned5186 from4480 6440 me, surely3588 now6258 also1571 I had slain2026 thee, and saved her alive.2421 853

34 And Balaam1109 said559 unto413 the angel4397 of the LORD,3068 I have sinned;2398 for3588 I knew3045 not3808 that3588 thou859 stoodest5324 in the way1870 against7125 me: now6258 therefore, if518 it displease7489 5869 thee, I will get me back again.7725

35 And the angel4397 of the LORD3068 said559 unto413 Balaam,1109 Go1980 with5973 the men:376 but only657 853 the word1697 that834 I shall speak1696 unto413 thee, that thou shalt speak.1696 So Balaam1109 went1980 with5973 the princes8269 of Balak.1111

36 And when Balak1111 heard8085 that3588 Balaam1109 was come,935 he went out3318 to meet7125 him unto413 a city5892 of Moab,4124 which834 is in5921 the border1366 of Arnon,769 which834 is in the utmost7097 coast.1366

37 And Balak1111 said559 unto413 Balaam,1109 Did I not3808 earnestly send7971 7971 unto413 thee to call7121 thee? wherefore4100 camest1980 thou not3808 unto413 me? am I not able3201 3808 indeed552 to promote thee to honor?3513

38 And Balaam1109 said559 unto413 Balak,1111 Lo,2009 I am come935 unto413 thee: have I now6258 any power at all3201 3201 to say1696 any thing?3972 the word1697 that834 God430 putteth7760 in my mouth,6310 that shall I speak.1696

15 Балак послал других князей, почитаемых более прежних, и числом их было больше.

16 Те пришли к Валааму и снова стали уговаривать его: «Балак, сын Циппора, очень просил тебя прийти к нему.

22 И когда Валаам продолжал свой путь, разгневался на него Бог, и Ангел ГОСПОДЕНЬ преградил ему дорогу (а Валаам ехал верхом на ослице в сопровождении двух своих слуг).

22 And God's430 anger639 was kindled2734 because3588 he1931 went:1980 and the angel4397 of the LORD3068 stood3320 in the way1870 for an adversary7854 against him. Now he1931 was riding7392 upon5921 his ass,860 and his two8147 servants5288 were with5973 him.

23 Увидев Ангела ГОСПОДНЯ с обнаженным мечом в руке, ослица свернула с дороги и пошла полем. Валаам стал бить ослицу, чтобы та вернулась на дорогу.

23 And the ass860 saw7200 853 the angel4397 of the LORD3068 standing5324 in the way,1870 and his sword2719 drawn8025 in his hand:3027 and the ass860 turned aside5186 out of4480 the way,1870 and went1980 into the field:7704 and Balaam1109 smote5221 853 the ass,860 to turn5186 her into the way.1870

24 Тогда Ангел ГОСПОДЕНЬ встал перед ними на тропе между виноградниками, обнесенными каменными оградами.

24 But the angel4397 of the LORD3068 stood5975 in a path4934 of the vineyards,3754 a wall1447 being on this side,4480 2088 and a wall1447 on that side.4480 2088

25 Увидев Ангела ГОСПОДНЕГО, ослица, прижимаясь к стене, придавила к ней ногу Валаама. Он снова стал бить ее.

25 And when the ass860 saw7200 853 the angel4397 of the LORD,3068 she thrust herself3905 unto413 the wall,7023 and crushed3905 853 Balaam's1109 foot7272 against413 the wall:7023 and he smote5221 her again.3254

26 Ангел ГОСПОДЕНЬ встал у них на пути в другом месте, столь узком, что нельзя было свернуть ни вправо, ни влево.

26 And the angel4397 of the LORD3068 went5674 further,3254 and stood5975 in a narrow6862 place,4725 where834 was no369 way1870 to turn5186 either to the right hand3225 or to the left.8040

27 Увидев опять Ангела ГОСПОДНЕГО, ослица легла на тропинке. Рассвирепел тогда Валаам и нещадно стал бить ослицу палкой.

27 And when the ass860 saw7200 853 the angel4397 of the LORD,3068 she fell down7257 under8478 Balaam:1109 and Balaam's1109 anger639 was kindled,2734 and he smote5221 853 the ass860 with a staff.4731

28 А ГОСПОДЬ наделил ослицу даром речи, и возопила она к Валааму: «Что сделала я тебе, почему в третий уже раз бьешь меня?»

28 And the LORD3068 opened6605 853 the mouth6310 of the ass,860 and she said559 unto Balaam,1109 What4100 have I done6213 unto thee, that3588 thou hast smitten5221 me these2088 three7969 times?7272

29 Валаам ответил ей: «Да ведь ты издеваешься надо мной! Будь в руке моей меч, тут же убил бы тебя!»

29 And Balaam1109 said559 unto the ass,860 Because3588 thou hast mocked5953 me: I would3863 there were3426 a sword2719 in mine hand,3027 for3588 now6258 would I kill2026 thee.

30 Но возразила ослица: «Разве я не та ослица, на которой ты ездил всю свою жизнь? Поступала ли я когда с тобою так, как сегодня?» Валаам ответил: «Нет».

30 And the ass860 said559 unto413 Balaam,1109 Am not3808 I595 thine ass,860 upon5921 which834 thou hast ridden7392 ever since4480 5750 I was thine unto5704 this2088 day?3117 was I ever wont5532 5532 to do6213 so3541 unto thee? And he said,559 Nay.3808

31 И открыл тогда ГОСПОДЬ Валааму глаза, и он увидел Ангела ГОСПОДНЕГО, стоявшего на дороге с обнаженным мечом в руке. Низко склонился Валаам перед Ангелом и пал ниц.

31 Then the LORD3068 opened1540 853 the eyes5869 of Balaam,1109 and he saw7200 853 the angel4397 of the LORD3068 standing5324 in the way,1870 and his sword2719 drawn8025 in his hand:3027 and he bowed down his head,6915 and fell flat7812 on his face.639

32 Обличил его Ангел ГОСПОДЕНЬ: «За что бил ты ослицу свою эти три раза? Ведь это Я пришел остановить тебя — зло ты делаешь предо Мною.

32 And the angel4397 of the LORD3068 said559 unto413 him, Wherefore5921 4100 hast thou smitten5221 853 thine ass860 these2088 three7969 times?7272 behold,2009 I595 went out3318 to withstand7854 thee, because3588 thy way1870 is perverse3399 before5048 me:

33 Ослица увидела Меня и трижды уклонилась. Если бы не отпрянула она, Я бы убил тебя, а ее пощадил».

33 And the ass860 saw7200 me, and turned5186 from6440 me these2088 three7969 times:7272 unless194 she had turned5186 from4480 6440 me, surely3588 now6258 also1571 I had slain2026 thee, and saved her alive.2421 853

34 «Согрешил я, — ответил Валаам Ангелу ГОСПОДНЮ, — но я ведь и не знал, что Ты стоишь на дороге. Но если Ты против, я вернусь».

34 And Balaam1109 said559 unto413 the angel4397 of the LORD,3068 I have sinned;2398 for3588 I knew3045 not3808 that3588 thou859 stoodest5324 in the way1870 against7125 me: now6258 therefore, if518 it displease7489 5869 thee, I will get me back again.7725

35 Ангел ГОСПОДЕНЬ сказал ему: «Продолжай путь, иди с этими людьми. Только говори лишь те слова, что Я скажу тебе». И пошел Валаам далее за князьями Балака.

35 And the angel4397 of the LORD3068 said559 unto413 Balaam,1109 Go1980 with5973 the men:376 but only657 853 the word1697 that834 I shall speak1696 unto413 thee, that thou shalt speak.1696 So Balaam1109 went1980 with5973 the princes8269 of Balak.1111

36 Услышав, что Валаам приближается, Балак выехал ему навстречу и у Ара в земле моавитской, на берегу Арнона, у самой границы страны, встретил его.

36 And when Balak1111 heard8085 that3588 Balaam1109 was come,935 he went out3318 to meet7125 him unto413 a city5892 of Moab,4124 which834 is in5921 the border1366 of Arnon,769 which834 is in the utmost7097 coast.1366

37 И упрекнул его Балак: «Не посылал ли я много раз за тобой, призывая тебя на помощь? Почему же не шел ты ко мне? Неужели думал, что не смогу я воздать тебе почести?»

37 And Balak1111 said559 unto413 Balaam,1109 Did I not3808 earnestly send7971 7971 unto413 thee to call7121 thee? wherefore4100 camest1980 thou not3808 unto413 me? am I not able3201 3808 indeed552 to promote thee to honor?3513

38 «Вот я и пришел, как ты видишь, — ответил Валаам. — Но разве в моей власти говорить что-либо от себя? Скажу лишь те слова, которые Бог вложит в мои уста».

38 And Balaam1109 said559 unto413 Balak,1111 Lo,2009 I am come935 unto413 thee: have I now6258 any power at all3201 3201 to say1696 any thing?3972 the word1697 that834 God430 putteth7760 in my mouth,6310 that shall I speak.1696

39 И пошел Валаам с Балаком далее, пока не пришли они в Кирьят-Хуцот,

39 And Balaam1109 went1980 with5973 Balak,1111 and they came935 unto Kirjath-huzoth.7155

40 где Балак заколол в жертву быков и овец и части от них дал Валааму и тем князьям, что сопровождали его.

40 And Balak1111 offered2076 oxen1241 and sheep,6629 and sent7971 to Balaam,1109 and to the princes8269 that834 were with854 him.

41 А утром Балак позвал Валаама с собою и возвел его на холмы Баала. Оттуда увидели они край огромного стана израильского.

41 And it came to pass1961 on the morrow,1242 that Balak1111 took3947 853 Balaam,1109 and brought him up5927 into the high places1116 of Baal,1168 that thence4480 8033 he might see7200 the utmost7097 part of the people.5971
