1 Dies sind die Geschichten1697 Nehemias5166, des Sohns Hachaljas2446. Es geschah im Monden2320 Chisleu des zwanzigsten6242 Jahrs, daß ich war1121 zu Susan7800 auf dem Schloß1002,

2 da kam Hanani2607, einer259 meiner Brüder251, mit etlichen Männern582 aus Juda3063. Und ich fragte7592 sie, wie es den Juden3064 ginge, die errettet6413 und übrig7604 waren935 von dem Gefängnis7628, und wie es zu Jerusalem3389 ginge?

3 Und sie sprachen559 zu mir: Die übrigen7604 von dem Gefängnis7628 sind7604 daselbst im Lande4082 in großem1419 Unglück7451 und Schmach2781; die Mauern2346 Jerusalems3389 sind zerbrochen6555 und ihre Tore8179 mit Feuer784 verbrannt3341.

4 Da ich1058 aber solche Worte1697 hörete, saß3427 ich und weinete und trug56 Leid zween Tage3117; und fastete6684 und betete6419 vor6440 dem GOtt430 vom Himmel8064

5 und sprach559: Ach577, HErr3068, GOtt430 vom Himmel8064, großer1419 und schrecklicher3372 GOtt410, der da hält8104 den Bund1285 und Barmherzigkeit2617 denen, die ihn lieben157 und seine Gebote4687 halten8104,

6 laß doch deine Ohren241 aufmerken7183 und5650 deine Augen5869 offen6605 sein, daß du8085 hörest das Gebet8605 deines Knechts, das ich nun vor6440 dir bete6419 Tag3117 und Nacht3915 für die Kinder1121 Israel3478, deine Knechte5650, und bekenne3034 die Sünden2403 der Kinder1121 Israel3478, die wir an dir getan2398 haben2398; und ich und meines Vaters1 Haus1004 haben auch gesündiget.

7 Wir sind verrückt worden, daß wir nicht2254 gehalten8104 haben die Gebote4687, Befehle und Rechte2706, die du2254 geboten6680 hast deinem Knechte5650 Mose4872.

8 Gedenke2142 aber doch des Worts, das1697 du559 deinem Knechte5650 Mose4872 gebotest und sprachest: Wenn ihr euch4603 vergreifet, so will6680 ich euch6327 unter die Völker5971 streuen.

9 Wo ihr977 euch aber bekehret zu mir und haltet8104 meine Gebote4687 und tut sie, und ob ihr verstoßen5080 wäret bis an der Himmel8064 Ende7097, so will7725 ich euch doch von dannen versammeln6908 und will935 euch bringen an den8034 Ort4725, den ich erwählet habe6213, daß mein Name daselbst wohne7931.

10 Sie sind doch ja deine Knechte5650 und dein Volk5971, die du erlöset hast6299 durch deine große1419 Kraft3581 und mächtige2389 Hand3027.

11 Ach577, HErr136, laß deine Ohren241 aufmerken auf7183 das Gebet8605 deines Knechts und5650 auf6440 das Gebet8605 deiner Knechte5650, die da begehren2655, deinen Namen8034 zu fürchten3372; und. laß deinem Knechte5650 heute3117 gelingen6743 und gib5414 ihm Barmherzigkeit7356 vor diesem Manne376! Chapter 1

1 THE words of Nehemiah the son of Helakiah. And it came to pass in the month of Canun, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace,

2 That Hanan, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the remnant of the Jews who were left of the captivity and also concerning Jerusalem.

3 And these men whom I asked said to me, The men who had escaped the captivity, behold, they are there in the city, dwelling in misery and reproach; the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.

4 When I heard these words, I sat down and wept and mourned for many days, and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.

5 And I said, I beseech thee, O LORD God of heaven, the mighty, the great and revered God, who keeps truth and grace for those who love him and keep his commandments;

6 Let thine eyes now be open, and thine ears attentive, to hear the prayer of thy servant which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and I confess the sins of the children of Israel which they have sinned against thee; moreover, both I and my father's house have sinned before thee.

7 And we have not kept all the commandments nor the statutes nor the ordinances which thou didst command thy servant Moses.

8 Remember now all the commandments which thou didst command thy servant Moses, saying, If you transgress against me, I will scatter you among the nations;

9 But if you turn to me and keep my laws and do them, then though your scattered ones were in the uttermost part of heaven, vet I will gather you from thence and bring you to the place that I have chosen to set my name there.

10 Now these are thy servants and thy people, whom thou hast saved by thy great power and by thy strong hand.

11 O LORD, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant and to the prayer of those who are willing to worship thy name; and save thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was cup hearer to the king.
