Jonah

Chapter 1

1 Now the word1697 of the LORD3068 came1961 to Jonah3124 the son1121 of Amittai,573 saying,559

2 Arise,6965 go1980 to Nineveh,5210 that great1419 city,5892 and cry7121 against5921 it; for their wickedness7451 is come5927 up before6440 me.

3 But Jonah3124 rose6965 up to flee1272 to Tarshish8659 from the presence6440 of the LORD,3068 and went3381 down3381 to Joppa;3305 and he found4672 a ship591 going935 to Tarshish:8659 so he paid5414 the fare7939 thereof, and went3381 down3381 into it, to go935 with them to Tarshish8659 from the presence6440 of the LORD.3068

4 But the LORD3068 sent2904 out a great1419 wind7307 into413 the sea,3220 and there was a mighty1419 tempest5591 in the sea,3220 so that the ship591 was like2803 to be broken.7665

5 Then the mariners4419 were afraid,3372 and cried2199 every man to his god,430 and cast2904 forth2904 the wares3627 that were in the ship591 into413 the sea,3220 to lighten7043 it of them. But Jonah3124 was gone3381 down3381 into413 the sides3411 of the ship;5600 and he lay,7901 and was fast asleep.7290

6 So the shipmaster7227 2259 came7126 to him, and said559 to him, What4100 mean you, O sleeper?7290 arise,6965 call7121 on your God,430 if194 so be that God430 will think6245 on us, that we perish6 not.

7 And they said559 every376 one376 to his fellow,7453 Come,3212 and let us cast5307 lots,1486 that we may know3045 for whose4310 cause7945 this2063 evil7451 is on us. So they cast5307 lots,1486 and the lot1486 fell5307 on Jonah.3124

8 Then said559 they to him, Tell5046 us, we pray4994 you, for whose834 4310 cause834 this2063 evil7451 is on us; What4100 is your occupation?4399 and from where370 come935 you? what4100 is your country?776 and of what335 2088 people5971 are you?

9 And he said559 to them, I am an Hebrew;5680 and I fear3373 the LORD,3068 the God430 of heaven,8064 which834 has made6213 the sea3220 and the dry3004 land.127

10 Then were the men582 exceedingly1419 afraid,3372 and said559 to him. Why4100 have you done6213 this?2063 For the men582 knew3045 that he fled1272 from the presence6440 of the LORD,3068 because3588 he had told5046 them.

11 Then said559 they to him, What4100 shall we do6213 to you, that the sea3220 may be calm8367 to us? for the sea3220 worked,1980 and was tempestuous.5492

12 And he said559 to them, Take5375 me up, and cast2904 me forth2904 into413 the sea;3220 so shall the sea3220 be calm8367 to you: for I know3045 that for my sake7945 this great1419 tempest5591 is on you.

13 Nevertheless the men582 rowed2864 hard to bring7725 it to the land;3004 but they could3201 not: for the sea3220 worked,1980 and was tempestuous5492 against5921 them.

14 Why they cried to the LORD, and said, We beseech you, O LORD, we beseech you, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not on us innocent blood: for you, O LORD, have done as it pleased you.

15 So they took5375 up Jonah,3124 and cast2904 him forth2904 into413 the sea:3220 and the sea3220 ceased5975 from her raging.2197

16 Then the men582 feared3372 the LORD3068 exceedingly,1419 and offered2076 a sacrifice2077 to the LORD,3068 and made vows.5088

17 Now the LORD3068 had prepared4487 a great1419 fish1709 to swallow1104 up Jonah.3124 And Jonah3124 was in the belly4578 of the fish1709 three7969 days3117 and three7969 nights.3915

1 Слово ГОСПОДНЕ было Ионе, сыну Амиттая:

2 «Ступай немедля в великий город Ниневию и предостереги живущих там: ждет их возмездие, ибо беззакония их дошли до небес и они перед очами Моими».

3 Но Иона вознамерился бежать в Таршиш, чтобы скрыться от ГОСПОДА. Он добрался до Яффы, нашел там корабль, отправлявшийся в Таршиш, заплатил за провоз, взошел на судно, чтобы плыть на нем в Таршиш, прочь от ГОСПОДА.

4 А ГОСПОДЬ наслал в это время на море сильный ветер — разыгралась буря, и кораблю грозило крушение.

5 Страх объял моряков, и каждый из них стал взывать к своему богу, моля о помощи. В отчаянии они побросали за борт весь груз, чтобы облегчить корабль. А Иона тем временем спустился в трюм, лег там и заснул крепким сном.

6 Капитан, натолкнувшись на него, возмутился: «Как можешь ты спать? Вставай, воззови и ты к своему Богу! Может быть, Бог твой позаботится о нас и не допустит нашей гибели».

7 А моряки говорили меж собой: «Давайте бросим жребий и узнаем, из-за кого постигла нас такая беда». Бросили они жребий, и пал он на Иону.

8 Тогда они стали расспрашивать его: «Признайся нам, из-за кого обрушилось на нас это бедствие: чем ты занимаешься и откуда идешь, из какой ты страны и какого племени?»

9 «Я еврей, — ответил Иона, — ГОСПОДА, Бога небесного чту, Того, Кто всё сотворил: и море, и сушу».

10 Ответ поверг моряков в еще больший страх. «Что же ты сделал такого?!» — спросили они, когда поняли, что он от ГОСПОДА бежит.

11 «Как же нам поступить с тобой, чтобы море успокоилось и не угрожало нам больше?» — спросили они. А море тем временем становилось всё яростней.

12 Тогда Иона сказал: «Бросьте меня в море, оно и успокоится, и вы спасетесь. Я знаю, что из-за меня попали вы в эту страшную бурю».

13 Моряки не вняли сему: отчаянно налегали они на весла, пытаясь достичь берега, но все их усилия были тщетны — буря на море продолжала усиливаться.

14 Тогда воззвали они к Богу: «ГОСПОДИ, не погуби! Прости нас, что лишаем мы жизни этого человека! Не сочти нас виновными в убийстве этом. Ибо Ты, ГОСПОДИ, сделал так, как Тебе было угодно!»

15 И, как только бросили они Иону за борт, утихло море.

16 Люди же эти, объятые великим страхом перед ГОСПОДОМ, принесли Ему жертвы и дали обеты.

3 Но Иона вознамерился бежать в Таршиш, чтобы скрыться от ГОСПОДА. Он добрался до Яффы, нашел там корабль, отправлявшийся в Таршиш, заплатил за провоз, взошел на судно, чтобы плыть на нем в Таршиш, прочь от ГОСПОДА.

4 But the LORD3068 sent2904 out a great1419 wind7307 into413 the sea,3220 and there was a mighty1419 tempest5591 in the sea,3220 so that the ship591 was like2803 to be broken.7665

4 А ГОСПОДЬ наслал в это время на море сильный ветер — разыгралась буря, и кораблю грозило крушение.

5 Then the mariners4419 were afraid,3372 and cried2199 every man to his god,430 and cast2904 forth2904 the wares3627 that were in the ship591 into413 the sea,3220 to lighten7043 it of them. But Jonah3124 was gone3381 down3381 into413 the sides3411 of the ship;5600 and he lay,7901 and was fast asleep.7290

5 Страх объял моряков, и каждый из них стал взывать к своему богу, моля о помощи. В отчаянии они побросали за борт весь груз, чтобы облегчить корабль. А Иона тем временем спустился в трюм, лег там и заснул крепким сном.

6 So the shipmaster7227 2259 came7126 to him, and said559 to him, What4100 mean you, O sleeper?7290 arise,6965 call7121 on your God,430 if194 so be that God430 will think6245 on us, that we perish6 not.

6 Капитан, натолкнувшись на него, возмутился: «Как можешь ты спать? Вставай, воззови и ты к своему Богу! Может быть, Бог твой позаботится о нас и не допустит нашей гибели».

7 And they said559 every376 one376 to his fellow,7453 Come,3212 and let us cast5307 lots,1486 that we may know3045 for whose4310 cause7945 this2063 evil7451 is on us. So they cast5307 lots,1486 and the lot1486 fell5307 on Jonah.3124

7 А моряки говорили меж собой: «Давайте бросим жребий и узнаем, из-за кого постигла нас такая беда». Бросили они жребий, и пал он на Иону.

8 Then said559 they to him, Tell5046 us, we pray4994 you, for whose834 4310 cause834 this2063 evil7451 is on us; What4100 is your occupation?4399 and from where370 come935 you? what4100 is your country?776 and of what335 2088 people5971 are you?

9 «Я еврей, — ответил Иона, — ГОСПОДА, Бога небесного чту, Того, Кто всё сотворил: и море, и сушу».

10 Then were the men582 exceedingly1419 afraid,3372 and said559 to him. Why4100 have you done6213 this?2063 For the men582 knew3045 that he fled1272 from the presence6440 of the LORD,3068 because3588 he had told5046 them.

10 Ответ поверг моряков в еще больший страх. «Что же ты сделал такого?!» — спросили они, когда поняли, что он от ГОСПОДА бежит.

11 Then said559 they to him, What4100 shall we do6213 to you, that the sea3220 may be calm8367 to us? for the sea3220 worked,1980 and was tempestuous.5492

11 «Как же нам поступить с тобой, чтобы море успокоилось и не угрожало нам больше?» — спросили они. А море тем временем становилось всё яростней.

12 And he said559 to them, Take5375 me up, and cast2904 me forth2904 into413 the sea;3220 so shall the sea3220 be calm8367 to you: for I know3045 that for my sake7945 this great1419 tempest5591 is on you.

12 Тогда Иона сказал: «Бросьте меня в море, оно и успокоится, и вы спасетесь. Я знаю, что из-за меня попали вы в эту страшную бурю».

13 Моряки не вняли сему: отчаянно налегали они на весла, пытаясь достичь берега, но все их усилия были тщетны — буря на море продолжала усиливаться.

14 Why they cried to the LORD, and said, We beseech you, O LORD, we beseech you, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not on us innocent blood: for you, O LORD, have done as it pleased you.

14 Тогда воззвали они к Богу: «ГОСПОДИ, не погуби! Прости нас, что лишаем мы жизни этого человека! Не сочти нас виновными в убийстве этом. Ибо Ты, ГОСПОДИ, сделал так, как Тебе было угодно!»

15 So they took5375 up Jonah,3124 and cast2904 him forth2904 into413 the sea:3220 and the sea3220 ceased5975 from her raging.2197

15 И, как только бросили они Иону за борт, утихло море.

16 Then the men582 feared3372 the LORD3068 exceedingly,1419 and offered2076 a sacrifice2077 to the LORD,3068 and made vows.5088

16 Люди же эти, объятые великим страхом перед ГОСПОДОМ, принесли Ему жертвы и дали обеты.

17 Now the LORD3068 had prepared4487 a great1419 fish1709 to swallow1104 up Jonah.3124 And Jonah3124 was in the belly4578 of the fish1709 three7969 days3117 and three7969 nights.3915
