Chapter 21

1 AND the LORD remembered Sarah, as he had said, and the LORD did to Sarah as he had spoken.

2 For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.

3 And Abraham called the name of his son that was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac.

4 And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.

5 And Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.

6 And Sarah said, God has made me to rejoice today exceedingly; everyone that hears the news will rejoice with me.

7 And she said, Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would give suck to children? For I have borne him a son in his old age.

8 And the child grew and was weaned; and Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned.

9 And Sarah saw the son of Hagar, the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, mocking.

10 Therefore she said to Abraham, Expel this maidservant and her son; for the son of this maidservant shall not be heir with my son Isaac.

11 And the thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight because of his son.

12 And God said to Abraham, Let it not be grievous in your sight because of the boy and because of your maidservant; whatever Sarah tells you, hearken to her voice; for your descendants shall come through Isaac.

13 And also of the son of the maidservant will I make a great nation because he is your offspring.

14 And Abraham rose up early in the morning and took bread and a skin containing water and gave them to Hagar, putting them on her shoulder, and the boy; and sent her away. And she departed, and lost her way in the wilderness of Beer-sheba.

15 And the water in the skin was spent, and she cast the boy under one of the shrubs.

16 And she went and sat down opposite him about the distance of a bowshot; for she said, Let me not see the death of the boy. And she sat down opposite him and lifted up her voice and wept.

17 And the LORD heard the voice of the boy; and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven, and said to her, What troubles you, Hagar? Fear not; for God has heard the voice of the boy where he is.

18 Arise, take up the boy, and hold him fast in your arms; for I will make him a great nation.

19 Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water; and she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink.

20 And God was with the boy; and he grew up and dwelt in the wilderness of Paran and learned to become an archer in the wilderness of Paran.

21 And his mother took him a wife out of the land of Egypt.

22 And it came to pass at that time that Abimeleck and Phichol, the general of his army, said to Abraham, God is with you in all that you do;

23 Now therefore swear to me by God in this place that you will never deal falsely with me, nor with my family, nor with my descendants; but according to the kindness that I have done to you, you shall do to me and to the land wherein you have sojourned.

24 And Abraham said, I will swear.

25 And Abraham reproved Abimeleck because of a well which Abraham's servants had dug and which Abimeleck's servants had seized.

26 And Abimeleck said, I do not know who has done this thing; neither did you tell me, nor have I heard of it until today.

27 And Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimeleck; and both of them made a covenant.

28 And Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves.

29 And Abimeleck said to Abraham, What is the meaning of these seven ewe lambs of the flock which you have set by themselves?

30 And he said, For these seven ewe lambs you shall take of my hands that they may be a witness for me that I have digged this well.

31 Therefore he called that place Beer-sheba, because there they swore both of them.

32 Thus they made a covenant at Beer-sheba; then Abimeleck and Phichol, the general of the army, rose up and returned to the land of the Philistines.

33 And Abraham planted a grove in Beer-sheba and called there on the name of the LORD Everlasting.

34 And Abraham sojourned in the land of the Philistines for a long time.

1 А ГОСПОДЬ, как и говорил прежде, оказал милость Сарре: исполнил обещанное ей.

2 Сарра зачала и во время, предсказанное Богом, сына родила Аврааму в старости его.

3 Сыну своему, которого родила ему Сарра, Авраам дал имя Исаак;

4 и на восьмой день, как заповедал ему Бог, Авраам совершил обрезание Исаака, сына своего.

5 Сто лет было Аврааму, когда родился у него сын его Исаак.

6 Сарра же сказала: «Бог дал мне повод для смеха, и кто ни услышит об этом, будет смеяться со мной».

7 И добавила: «Кто бы решился сказать Аврааму, что Сарра будет грудью кормить детей? И вот в старости его я сына ему родила».

8 Время шло, Исаак подрос, и в тот день, когда он был отнят от груди, Авраам устроил большой пир.

9 Когда Сарра заметила, что сын, которого Агарь-египтянка родила Аврааму, насмехается над ее сыном,

10 она сказала Аврааму: «Выгони эту рабыню и сына ее! Не делить же сыну этой рабыни наследство с моим сыном, с Исааком!»

11 Это сильно огорчило Авраама, ведь Измаил тоже был его сыном.

12 Но Бог сказал Аврааму: «Не печалься ни о юноше, ни о рабыне, что стала женой твоей. Сделай то, что говорит тебе Сарра, ведь у тебя есть Исаак, и его потомки твоими потомками назовутся.

13 Но и от сына рабыни Я произведу народ — он тоже твое дитя».

14 На следующее утро Авраам поднялся рано, приготовил пищу, наполнил мех водою и дал Агари в дорогу. То и другое он положил ей на плечи и отослал ее прочь вместе с мальчиком. Она пошла и заблудилась в Беэршевской пустыне.

15 Когда кончилась вода в мехе, Агарь оставила плачущего мальчика в тени под кустом,

16 а сама отошла и села вдали от него, примерно на расстоянии выстрела из лука. «Не буду смотреть на то, как мое дитя умирает», — сказала она себе и, сидя поодаль, тоже начала плакать навзрыд.

17 Мольбы и плач подростка услышал Бог; и посланный Им ангел с небес заговорил с Агарью: «Что с тобою, Агарь? Не бойся! Бог услышал плач оставленного тобой ребенка.

18 Встань, подними мальчика и береги его! Великий народ произведу Я от него».

19 Бог открыл глаза Агари, и увидела она колодец, пошла, наполнила мех водой и напоила ребенка.

20 [20-21] Мальчик, хранимый Богом, рос и мужал. Он поселился в пустыне Паран и был искусным стрелком из лука, а жену ему мать нашла в Египте.

22 В ту пору Авимелех, царь Герара, вместе с Пихолом, своим военачальником, пришел навестить Авраама. «По всему видно, — сказал он Аврааму, — с тобою Бог во всем, что ты ни делаешь.

23 Так поклянись же здесь мне Богом, что ты никогда не прибегнешь ни к каким тайным проискам против меня или моих детей и потомков. Как я был верен тебе, так и ты поклянись в верности мне и стране, в которой ты живешь как человек пришлый».

24 «Хорошо, — сказал Авраам, — я клянусь».

25 Но при этом Авраам упрекнул Авимелеха за колодец, который отняли у него люди Авимелеха.

26 «Не знаю, кто это сделал, — возразил Авимелех. — До сих пор ты ни разу не упомянул об этом, и ни от кого другого я об этом не слышал».

27 Тогда взял Авраам из стад своих овец и быков и отдал в дар Авимелеху, и заключили они союз.

28 А когда Авраам поставил отдельно еще семь овечек,

29 Авимелех спросил Авраама: «Зачем ты это сделал?»

30 «Ты должен, — ответил он, — принять этих семь овечек от меня как очевидное признание того, что я выкопал этот колодец».

31 С тех пор это место называется Беэр-Шева, Колодец клятвы, потому что здесь они поклялись друг другу.

32 Заключив союз в Беэр-Шеве, Авимелех и его военачальник Пихол вернулись в землю филистимлян.

33 Авраам посадил в Беэр-Шеве тамариск. Там же призвал он имя ГОСПОДА, Бога вечного: совершил богослужение.

34 И он еще долго оставался в земле филистимской как человек пришлый.

2 For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.

2 Сарра зачала и во время, предсказанное Богом, сына родила Аврааму в старости его.

3 And Abraham called the name of his son that was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac.

3 Сыну своему, которого родила ему Сарра, Авраам дал имя Исаак;

4 And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.

4 и на восьмой день, как заповедал ему Бог, Авраам совершил обрезание Исаака, сына своего.

5 And Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.

5 Сто лет было Аврааму, когда родился у него сын его Исаак.

6 And Sarah said, God has made me to rejoice today exceedingly; everyone that hears the news will rejoice with me.

8 And the child grew and was weaned; and Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned.

8 Время шло, Исаак подрос, и в тот день, когда он был отнят от груди, Авраам устроил большой пир.

9 And Sarah saw the son of Hagar, the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, mocking.

9 Когда Сарра заметила, что сын, которого Агарь-египтянка родила Аврааму, насмехается над ее сыном,

10 Therefore she said to Abraham, Expel this maidservant and her son; for the son of this maidservant shall not be heir with my son Isaac.

10 она сказала Аврааму: «Выгони эту рабыню и сына ее! Не делить же сыну этой рабыни наследство с моим сыном, с Исааком!»

11 And the thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight because of his son.

11 Это сильно огорчило Авраама, ведь Измаил тоже был его сыном.

12 And God said to Abraham, Let it not be grievous in your sight because of the boy and because of your maidservant; whatever Sarah tells you, hearken to her voice; for your descendants shall come through Isaac.

12 Но Бог сказал Аврааму: «Не печалься ни о юноше, ни о рабыне, что стала женой твоей. Сделай то, что говорит тебе Сарра, ведь у тебя есть Исаак, и его потомки твоими потомками назовутся.

13 And also of the son of the maidservant will I make a great nation because he is your offspring.

13 Но и от сына рабыни Я произведу народ — он тоже твое дитя».

14 And Abraham rose up early in the morning and took bread and a skin containing water and gave them to Hagar, putting them on her shoulder, and the boy; and sent her away. And she departed, and lost her way in the wilderness of Beer-sheba.

14 На следующее утро Авраам поднялся рано, приготовил пищу, наполнил мех водою и дал Агари в дорогу. То и другое он положил ей на плечи и отослал ее прочь вместе с мальчиком. Она пошла и заблудилась в Беэршевской пустыне.

15 And the water in the skin was spent, and she cast the boy under one of the shrubs.

15 Когда кончилась вода в мехе, Агарь оставила плачущего мальчика в тени под кустом,

16 And she went and sat down opposite him about the distance of a bowshot; for she said, Let me not see the death of the boy. And she sat down opposite him and lifted up her voice and wept.

16 а сама отошла и села вдали от него, примерно на расстоянии выстрела из лука. «Не буду смотреть на то, как мое дитя умирает», — сказала она себе и, сидя поодаль, тоже начала плакать навзрыд.

17 And the LORD heard the voice of the boy; and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven, and said to her, What troubles you, Hagar? Fear not; for God has heard the voice of the boy where he is.

17 Мольбы и плач подростка услышал Бог; и посланный Им ангел с небес заговорил с Агарью: «Что с тобою, Агарь? Не бойся! Бог услышал плач оставленного тобой ребенка.

18 Arise, take up the boy, and hold him fast in your arms; for I will make him a great nation.

18 Встань, подними мальчика и береги его! Великий народ произведу Я от него».

19 Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water; and she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink.

19 Бог открыл глаза Агари, и увидела она колодец, пошла, наполнила мех водой и напоила ребенка.

20 And God was with the boy; and he grew up and dwelt in the wilderness of Paran and learned to become an archer in the wilderness of Paran.

20 [20-21] Мальчик, хранимый Богом, рос и мужал. Он поселился в пустыне Паран и был искусным стрелком из лука, а жену ему мать нашла в Египте.

21 And his mother took him a wife out of the land of Egypt.

22 And it came to pass at that time that Abimeleck and Phichol, the general of his army, said to Abraham, God is with you in all that you do;

22 В ту пору Авимелех, царь Герара, вместе с Пихолом, своим военачальником, пришел навестить Авраама. «По всему видно, — сказал он Аврааму, — с тобою Бог во всем, что ты ни делаешь.

23 Now therefore swear to me by God in this place that you will never deal falsely with me, nor with my family, nor with my descendants; but according to the kindness that I have done to you, you shall do to me and to the land wherein you have sojourned.

23 Так поклянись же здесь мне Богом, что ты никогда не прибегнешь ни к каким тайным проискам против меня или моих детей и потомков. Как я был верен тебе, так и ты поклянись в верности мне и стране, в которой ты живешь как человек пришлый».

24 And Abraham said, I will swear.

24 «Хорошо, — сказал Авраам, — я клянусь».

25 And Abraham reproved Abimeleck because of a well which Abraham's servants had dug and which Abimeleck's servants had seized.

25 Но при этом Авраам упрекнул Авимелеха за колодец, который отняли у него люди Авимелеха.

26 And Abimeleck said, I do not know who has done this thing; neither did you tell me, nor have I heard of it until today.

26 «Не знаю, кто это сделал, — возразил Авимелех. — До сих пор ты ни разу не упомянул об этом, и ни от кого другого я об этом не слышал».
