2 И сказала Сара Авраму: «Господь не пожелал, чтобы я имела детей. Так войди к моей служанке Агари, и я приму ребёнка, который родится у неё, как моего собственного». Аврам послушался свою жену Сару.
3 Сара отдала своему мужу Авраму служанку Агарь. Это произошло через 10 лет после того, как Аврам поселился в Ханаанской земле.
4 Агарь забеременела от Аврама и, поняв это, очень возгордилась и стала считать себя лучше Сары, своей хозяйки.
5 Но Сара сказала Авраму: «Моя служанка теперь ненавидит меня, и это твоя вина. Я дала её тебе, она забеременела и теперь считает себя лучше меня. Я хочу, чтобы Господь рассудил, кто из нас прав».
6 Но Аврам сказал Саре: «Ты — хозяйка Агари, поэтому можешь делать с ней всё, что хочешь». Сара стала жестокой к Агари, и та убежала.
7 Ангел Господний нашёл Агарь в пустыне у источника воды по дороге в Сур
8 и сказал: «Агарь, ты служанка Сары, так почему же ты здесь? Куда ты идёшь?» Агарь ответила: «Я убегаю от Сары».
9 Ангел Господний сказал Агари: «Сара — твоя хозяйка, так иди же домой и будь ей послушна».
10 И сказал ей Ангел Господний: «От тебя произойдёт многочисленный народ, да такой великий, что твоих потомков будет не счесть».
11 И ещё сказал ей Ангел Господний: «Агарь, ты сейчас беременна, и у тебя родится сын. Ты назовёшь его Измаилом, так как Господь слышал, что с тобой обошлись жестоко.
12 Измаил будет непокорным и свободным, словно дикий осёл, он будет против всех, и все будут против него. Он будет кочевать с места на место и ставить стан рядом со своими братьями».
13 Господь говорил с Агарью, и она стала называть Господа новым именем. Она сказала Ему: «Ты — Бог, видящий меня». Она сказала это потому, что подумала: «Вижу я, что даже в этом месте Бог видит меня и заботится обо мне».
14 Поэтому тот колодец между Кадесом и Баредом назвали Беер-Лахай-Рои.
15 Агарь родила Авраму сына, и Аврам назвал своего сына Измаил.
16 Авраму было 86 лет, когда у Агари родился Измаил.

14 Wherefore59213651 the well875 was called7121 Beer-lahai-roi;883 behold,2009it is between996 Kadesh6946 and Bered.1260
15 And Hagar1904 bore3205 Abram87 a son:1121 and Abram87 called7121 his son's1121 name,8034 which834 Hagar1904 bore,3205 Ishmael.3458

12 Измаил будет непокорным и свободным, словно дикий осёл, он будет против всех, и все будут против него. Он будет кочевать с места на место и ставить стан рядом со своими братьями».
12 And he1931 will be1961 a wild6501 man;120 his hand3027will be against every man,3605 and every man's3605 hand3027 against him; and he shall dwell7931 in the presence59216440 of all3605 his brethren.251
