第22章

1 以色列族遄征、張幕於摩押平原、約但東、耶利哥相對之所。

2 摩押人與西撥子巴勒、見以色列族、戮亞摩哩人、知其族衆多、則懼、中心不樂、

3 併於上節

4 告米田長老曰、此族衆多、并吞四方、如牛囓草、

5 摩押王西撥子巴勒、遣使至比奪、於亞捫河濱、見庇耳子巴蘭、召之、曰、有民自埃及至此、周遍於地、與我比隣、土壤相接、

6 此民強悍、我非其敵、汝來詛之、使我得攻擊而獲勝、驅之出境、蓋我素知爾、祝人則人受福、詛人則人被禍。

7 摩押、米田長老、攜卜筮之值、往見巴蘭、以巴勒之言告之。

8 巴蘭曰、今日宿此、待聆耶和華之諭、以復於爾。摩押使臣與巴蘭同處、

9 上帝臨格、問巴蘭曰、誰與爾偕。

10 對曰、摩押王西撥子巴勒、遣人就我曰、

11 有民至自埃及、周遍於地、願爾式臨、詛其有衆、庶幾戰可勝、而人可驅矣。

12 上帝曰、爾毋與之偕往、爾毋爲之詛民、蓋斯民嘗受福矣。

13 巴蘭夙興、告巴勒使臣曰、汝可返故國、耶和華有言、毋許我偕往。

14 其臣乃歸、告巴勒曰、巴蘭不欲與我同至。

15 巴勒更遣使臣、較之於前、位尊而人衆。

16 既至、謂巴蘭曰、西撥子巴勒有言、爾盍涖臨、何所扞格。

17 我將使爾尊顯、凡爾所言、我必依行、請爾至國、以詛斯民焉。

18 巴蘭告其臣曰、即使巴勒以盈室之金銀饋我、亦不可踰越我上帝耶和華之命、或大或小、悉宜遵循。

19 今日爾姑宿此、以俟耶和華更有所諭。

20 是夜上帝臨格、諭巴蘭曰、如其人來招、汝姑偕往、然我所諭汝必遵循。

21 巴蘭夙興備驢、偕摩押使臣往。

22 於是乘驢、二役偕行、緣其貪利而往、上帝震怒、耶和華之使者立於途以禦之、

23 拔刃途側、驢見之、故不由其道、避諸田間、巴蘭策驢、使歸於道。

24 徑由二葡萄園間、左右有垣、耶和華使者立於彼、

25 驢見之、局促垣側、擠巴蘭之足於垣、故又策之、

26 耶和華之使者前往、立於途之隘處、左右無隙、不能轉移、

27 驢見之伏地、巴蘭怒、以杖策之。

28 耶和華使驢作人言、謂巴蘭曰、我無所獲罪與爾、爾乃策我者三、

29 巴蘭曰、汝戲我、願有刃於我手、我必殺汝。

30 驢曰、我非爾常乘之驢歟、自昔及今、我嘗有是行否、曰、否。

31 耶和華明巴蘭目、乃見使者拔刃立於道、故稽首俯伏。

32 使者曰、三策爾驢何也、爾所行者違逆我、故我出以禦爾。

33 驢見我而避者三、不然我已殺爾、使驢得生。

34 巴蘭曰、我知過矣、不識爾立於途中以禦我、爾若不悅我往、我將返。

35 曰姑與偕往、惟我所諭爾必言之、於是巴蘭偕巴勒使臣往、

36 巴勒聞其至、則往亞嫩溪、摩押邊邑晉接。

37 巴勒謂巴蘭曰、我遣使召爾、爾曷不至、我豈不能以尊顯加爾。

38 巴蘭曰、我今已至、我豈能自擅而言、上帝使我言、我必言之。

39 巴蘭與巴勒偕行、至基列湖朔、

40 巴勒宰牛羊、饋於巴蘭、并賜使臣。〇

41 詰旦、巴勒引巴蘭至巴力崇邱、使觀以色列族營之四隅。

Numbers

Chapter 22

1 AND the children of Israel journeyed, and encamped in the plains of Moab on this side of Jordan by Jericho.

2 And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.

3 And the Moabites were in great fear of the people because they were many; and Moab was distressed at the presence of the children of Israel.

4 And Moab said to the elders of Midian, Now this multitude is licking up all that are around about us, as the ox licks up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time.

5 So he sent messengers to Balaam the son of Beor, an interpreter of dreams, who dwelt by the river of the land of the children of Ammon, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt; they cover the face of the land, and they are settled over against me.

6 Come now therefore and curse this people for me, for they are too mighty for me; perhaps I shall be able to defeat some of them and destroy them out of the land; for I know that he whom you bless is blessed and he whom you curse is cursed.

7 And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with gifts for divination in their hands; and they came to Balaam and told him the words of Balak.

8 And he said to them, Lodge here this night and I will give you an answer as the LORD shall speak to me; and the princes of Moab stayed with Balaam.

9 And God came to Balaam and said to him, Who are these men that are with you?

10 And Balaam said to God, Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, has sent to me, saying,

11 Behold, there is a people come out of Egypt who cover the face of the earth; come now, and curse them for me; perhaps I shall be able to fight against them and destroy them.

12 And God said to Balaam, You shall not go with them; and you shall not curse the people; for they are blessed.

13 And Balaam rose up in the morning and said to the princes of Balak, Go to your land; for the LORD refuses to permit me to go with you.

14 So the princes of Moab rose up and went to Balak, and said to him, Balaam refused to come with us.

15 And again Balak sent messengers who were greater and more honorable than they.

16 And they carne to Balaam and said to him, Thus says Balak the son of Zippor, Let nothing hinder you from coming to me;

17 For I will surely honor you exceedingly, and I will do for you whatever you say to me; come therefore, curse this people for me.

18 And Balaam answered and said to the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not transgress against the word of the LORD my God, neither concerning a small matter nor concerning a great matter.

19 Now, therefore, tarry you also here this night, that I may know what more the LORD will say to me.

20 And God came to Balaam at night and said to him, If these men have come to call you, rise up and go with them; but only the word which I shall say to you, that shall you do.

21 So Balaam rose up in the morning and saddled his ass and went with the princes of Balak.

22 And God's anger was kindled against him because he went; and the angel of the LORD stood in the way for an adversary against him. Now as he was riding on his she-ass, and his two servants with him,

23 The she-ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn and held in his hand; and the she-ass turned aside out of the way and went into the field; and Balaam struck the she-ass to turn her into the way.

24 But the angel of the LORD stood in a path of the vineyard, a wall being on this side and a wall on that side.

25 And when the she-ass saw the angel of the LORD, she thrust herself against the wall and pressed Balaam's foot against the wall; and he struck her again.

26 And the angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place where there was no way to turn either to the right or to the left.

27 And when the she-ass saw the angel of the LORD, she lay down under Balaam; and Balaam's anger was kindled, and he struck the she-ass with a staff.

28 And the LORD opened the mouth of the she-ass and she said to Balaam, What have I done to you that you have struck me these three times?

29 And Balaam said to the she-ass, Because you have mocked me; I would there were a sword in my hands, for now would I kill you.

30 And the she-ass said to Balaam, Am I not your she-ass upon which you have ridden from your youth even to this day? Have I ever behaved in this manner toward you? And he said to her, No.

31 Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way with his sword drawn and held in his hand; and he bowed down his head and worshipped on his face.

32 And the angel of the LORD said to him, Why have you struck your she-ass these three times? Behold, I went out to be an adversary against you, because you have directed your course contrary to me;

33 And the she-ass saw me and turned aside from me these three times; and if she had not turned aside from me, surely now I would have slain you, and saved her alive.

34 And Balaam said to the angel of the LORD, I have sinned; for I did not know that thou didst stand in the way against me; now therefore, if my mission is evil in thy eyes, I will turn back again.

35 And the angel of the LORD said to Balaam, Go with the men; but only the command that I shall speak to you, that shall you do. So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.

36 And when Balak heard that Balaam was come, he went out to meet him in a town of Moab, which is in the border of Arnon at the uttermost end of the border.

37 And Balak said to Balaam, Did I not earnestly send messengers to you to call you? Why did you not come to me? Perhaps you were saying that I am not able to honor you?

38 And Balaam said to Balak, Lo, I have come to you; have I now any power at all to say anything? The word that God puts in my mouth, that shall I speak.

39 And Balaam went with Balak, and they came to Koriath-Hizroth.

40 And Balak slaughtered oxen and sheep, and sent to Balaam and to the princes who were with him.

41 And in the morning Balak took Balaam and brought him to a high place of Baal, and from there he saw the uttermost part of the people of Israel.

11 有民至自埃及、周遍於地、願爾式臨、詛其有衆、庶幾戰可勝、而人可驅矣。	11 Behold, there is a people come out of Egypt who cover the face of the earth; come now, and curse them for me; perhaps I shall be able to fight against them and destroy them.
12 上帝曰、爾毋與之偕往、爾毋爲之詛民、蓋斯民嘗受福矣。	12 And God said to Balaam, You shall not go with them; and you shall not curse the people; for they are blessed.
13 巴蘭夙興、告巴勒使臣曰、汝可返故國、耶和華有言、毋許我偕往。	13 And Balaam rose up in the morning and said to the princes of Balak, Go to your land; for the LORD refuses to permit me to go with you.
14 其臣乃歸、告巴勒曰、巴蘭不欲與我同至。	14 So the princes of Moab rose up and went to Balak, and said to him, Balaam refused to come with us.
15 巴勒更遣使臣、較之於前、位尊而人衆。	15 And again Balak sent messengers who were greater and more honorable than they.
16 既至、謂巴蘭曰、西撥子巴勒有言、爾盍涖臨、何所扞格。	16 And they carne to Balaam and said to him, Thus says Balak the son of Zippor, Let nothing hinder you from coming to me;
17 我將使爾尊顯、凡爾所言、我必依行、請爾至國、以詛斯民焉。	17 For I will surely honor you exceedingly, and I will do for you whatever you say to me; come therefore, curse this people for me.
18 巴蘭告其臣曰、即使巴勒以盈室之金銀饋我、亦不可踰越我上帝耶和華之命、或大或小、悉宜遵循。	18 And Balaam answered and said to the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not transgress against the word of the LORD my God, neither concerning a small matter nor concerning a great matter.
19 今日爾姑宿此、以俟耶和華更有所諭。	19 Now, therefore, tarry you also here this night, that I may know what more the LORD will say to me.
20 是夜上帝臨格、諭巴蘭曰、如其人來招、汝姑偕往、然我所諭汝必遵循。	20 And God came to Balaam at night and said to him, If these men have come to call you, rise up and go with them; but only the word which I shall say to you, that shall you do.
21 巴蘭夙興備驢、偕摩押使臣往。	21 So Balaam rose up in the morning and saddled his ass and went with the princes of Balak.

26 耶和華之使者前往、立於途之隘處、左右無隙、不能轉移、	26 And the angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place where there was no way to turn either to the right or to the left.
27 驢見之伏地、巴蘭怒、以杖策之。	27 And when the she-ass saw the angel of the LORD, she lay down under Balaam; and Balaam's anger was kindled, and he struck the she-ass with a staff.
28 耶和華使驢作人言、謂巴蘭曰、我無所獲罪與爾、爾乃策我者三、	28 And the LORD opened the mouth of the she-ass and she said to Balaam, What have I done to you that you have struck me these three times?
29 巴蘭曰、汝戲我、願有刃於我手、我必殺汝。	29 And Balaam said to the she-ass, Because you have mocked me; I would there were a sword in my hands, for now would I kill you.
