Chapter 27

1 And it came1961 to pass, that when Isaac3327 was old,2204 and his eyes5869 were dim,3543 so that he could not see,7200 he called7121 Esau6215 his oldest1419 son,1121 and said559 to him, My son:1121 and he said559 to him, Behold,2009 here am I.

2 And he said,559 Behold2009 now,4994 I am old,2204 I know3045 not the day3117 of my death:4194

3 Now therefore take,5375 I pray4994 you, your weapons,3627 your quiver8522 and your bow,7198 and go3318 out to the field,7704 and take6679 me some venison;6720

4 And make6213 me savoury4303 meat, such as I love,157 and bring935 it to me, that I may eat;398 that my soul5315 may bless1288 you before2962 I die.4191

5 And Rebekah7259 heard8085 when Isaac3327 spoke1696 to Esau6215 his son.1121 And Esau6215 went3212 to the field7704 to hunt6679 for venison,6718 and to bring935 it.

6 And Rebekah7259 spoke559 to Jacob3290 her son,1121 saying,559 Behold,2009 I heard8085 your father1 speak1696 to Esau6215 your brother,251 saying,559

7 Bring935 me venison,6718 and make6213 me savoury4303 meat, that I may eat,398 and bless1288 you before6440 the LORD3068 before6440 my death.4194

8 Now therefore, my son,1121 obey8085 my voice6963 according to that which834 I command6680 you.

9 Go3212 now to the flock,6629 and fetch3947 me from there8033 two8147 good2896 kids1423 of the goats;5795 and I will make6213 them savoury4303 meat for your father,1 such as he loves:157

10 And you shall bring935 it to your father,1 that he may eat,398 and that he may bless1288 you before6440 his death.4194

11 And Jacob3290 said559 to Rebekah7259 his mother,517 Behold,2005 Esau6215 my brother251 is a hairy8163 man,376 and I am a smooth2509 man:376

12 My father1 peradventure194 will feel4959 me, and I shall seem1961 5869 to him as a deceiver;8591 and I shall bring935 a curse7045 on me, and not a blessing.1293

13 And his mother517 said559 to him, On me be your curse,7045 my son:1121 only389 obey8085 my voice,6963 and go3212 fetch3947 me them.

14 And he went,3212 and fetched,3947 and brought935 them to his mother:517 and his mother517 made6213 savoury4303 meat, such as his father1 loved.157

15 And Rebekah7259 took3947 goodly2530 raiment899 of her oldest1419 son1121 Esau,6215 which were with her in the house,1004 and put3847 them on Jacob3290 her younger6996 son:1121

16 And she put3847 the skins5785 of the kids1423 of the goats5795 on his hands,3027 and on the smooth2513 of his neck:6677

17 And she gave5414 the savoury4303 meat and the bread,3899 which834 she had prepared,6213 into the hand3027 of her son1121 Jacob.3290

18 And he came935 to his father,1 and said,559 My father:1 and he said,559 Here2009 am I; who4310 are you, my son?1121

19 And Jacob3290 said559 to his father,1 I am Esau6215 your first born;1060 I have done6213 according as you bade1696 me: arise,6965 I pray4994 you, sit3427 and eat398 of my venison,6718 that your soul5315 may bless1288 me.

20 And Isaac3327 said559 to his son,1121 How4100 is it that you have found4672 it so quickly,4116 my son?1121 And he said,559 Because3588 the LORD3068 your God430 brought7136 it to me.

21 And Isaac3327 said559 to Jacob,3290 Come5066 near,5066 I pray4994 you, that I may feel4184 you, my son,1121 whether you be my very2088 son1121 Esau6215 or not.

22 And Jacob3290 went5066 near5066 to Isaac3327 his father;1 and he felt4959 him, and said,559 The voice6963 is Jacob's3290 voice,6963 but the hands3027 are the hands3027 of Esau.6215

23 And he discerned5234 him not, because3588 his hands3027 were hairy,8163 as his brother251 Esau's6215 hands:3027 so he blessed1288 him.

24 And he said,559 Are you my very2088 son1121 Esau?6215 And he said,559 I am.

25 And he said,559 Bring5066 it near5066 to me, and I will eat398 of my son's1121 venison,6718 that my soul5315 may bless1288 you. And he brought5066 it near5066 to him, and he did eat:398 and he brought935 him wine 3196and he drank.8354

26 And his father1 Isaac3327 said559 to him, Come5066 near5066 now,4994 and kiss5401 me, my son.1121

27 And he came5066 near,5066 and kissed5401 him: and he smelled7306 the smell7381 of his raiment,899 and blessed1288 him, and said,559 See,7200 the smell7381 of my son1121 is as the smell7381 of a field7704 which834 the LORD3068 has blessed:1288

28 Therefore God430 give5414 you of the dew2919 of heaven,8064 and the fatness4924 of the earth,776 and plenty7230 of corn1715 and wine:8492

29 Let people5971 serve5647 you, and nations3816 bow7812 down7812 to you: be lord1376 over your brothers,251 and let your mother's517 sons1121 bow7812 down7812 to you: cursed779 be every one that curses779 you, and blessed1288 be he that blesses1288 you.

30 And it came1961 to pass, as soon834 as Isaac3327 had made an end3615 of blessing1293 Jacob,3290 and Jacob3290 was yet389 scarce gone3318 out from the presence6440 of Isaac3327 his father,1 that Esau6215 his brother251 came935 in from his hunting.6718

31 And he also1571 had made6213 savoury4303 meat, and brought935 it to his father,1 and said559 to his father,1 Let my father1 arise,6965 and eat398 of his son's1121 venison,6718 that your soul5315 may bless1288 me.

32 And Isaac3327 his father1 said559 to him, Who4310 are you? And he said,559 I am your son,1121 your firstborn1060 Esau.6215

33 And Isaac3327 trembled2729 very1419 exceedingly,1419 and said,559 Who?4310 where645 is he that has taken6679 venison,6718 and brought935 it me, and I have eaten398 of all3605 before2962 you came,935 and have blessed1288 him? yes,1571 and he shall be blessed.1288

34 And when Esau6215 heard8085 the words1697 of his father,1 he cried6817 with a great1419 and exceeding3966 bitter4751 cry,6818 and said559 to his father,1 Bless1288 me, even1571 me also,1571 O my father.1

35 And he said,559 Your brother251 came935 with subtlety,4820 and has taken3947 away your blessing.1293

36 And he said,559 Is not he rightly3588 named7121 8034 Jacob?3290 for he has supplanted6117 me these2088 two6471 times:6471 he took3947 away my birthright;1062 and, behold,2009 now6258 he has taken3947 away my blessing.1293 And he said,559 Have you not reserved680 a blessing1293 for me?

37 And Isaac3327 answered6030 and said559 to Esau,6215 Behold,2005 I have made7760 him your lord,1376 and all3605 his brothers251 have I given5414 to him for servants;5650 and with corn1715 and wine8492 have I sustained5564 him: and what4100 shall I do6213 now645 to you, my son?1121

38 And Esau6215 said559 to his father,1 Have you but one259 blessing,1293 my father?1 bless1288 me, even1571 me also,1571 O my father.1 And Esau6215 lifted5375 up his voice,6963 and wept.1058

39 And Isaac3327 his father1 answered6030 and said559 to him, Behold,2009 your dwelling4186 shall be the fatness4924 of the earth,776 and of the dew2919 of heaven8064 from above;5921

40 And by your sword2719 shall you live,2421 and shall serve5647 your brother;251 and it shall come1961 to pass when834 you shall have the dominion,7300 that you shall break6561 his yoke5923 from off5921 your neck.6677

41 And Esau6215 hated7852 Jacob3290 because5921 of the blessing1293 with which834 his father1 blessed1288 him: and Esau6215 said559 in his heart,3820 The days3117 of mourning60 for my father1 are at7128 hand;7126 then will I slay2026 my brother251 Jacob.3290

42 And these words1697 of Esau6215 her elder1419 son1121 were told5608 to Rebekah:7259 and she sent7971 and called7121 Jacob3290 her younger6996 son,1121 and said559 to him, Behold,2009 your brother251 Esau,6215 as touching you, does comfort5162 himself, purposing to kill2026 you.

43 Now6258 therefore, my son,1121 obey8085 my voice;6963 arise,6965 flee1272 you to Laban3837 my brother251 to Haran;2771

44 And tarry3427 with him a few259 days,3117 until5704 834 your brother's251 fury2534 turn7725 away;

45 Until5704 your brother's251 anger639 turn7725 away from you, and he forget7911 that which834 you have done6213 to him: then I will send,7971 and fetch3947 you from there:8033 why4100 should I be deprived7921 also1571 of you both8147 in one259 day?3117

46 And Rebekah7259 said559 to Isaac,3327 I am weary6973 of my life2416 because6440 of the daughters1323 of Heth:2845 if518 Jacob3290 take3947 a wife802 of the daughters1323 of Heth,2845 such as these428 which834 are of the daughters1323 of the land,776 what4100 good shall my life2416 do me?

Chapter 27

1 AND it came to pass, when Isaac was old and his eyes were dim so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said to him, My son; and he said to him, Behold, here I am.

2 And Isaac said to him, Behold now, I am old, and I do not know the day of my death;

3 Now therefore take your weapons, your sword and your bow, and go out into the field and hunt game;

4 And make me stewed meat, such as I like, and bring it to me, that I may eat, that my soul may bless you before I die.

5 And Rebekah heard when Isaac spoke to Esau his son. So Esau went to the field to hunt game and to bring it.

6 Then Rebekah said to Jacob her son, Behold, I heard your father say to Esau your brother,

7 Bring me game, and make me stewed meat, that I may eat and bless you in the presence of the LORD before I die.

8 Now therefore, my son, listen to me according to that which I command you.

9 Go now to the flock, and bring me from there two kids of the goats; and I will make from them stew for your father, such as he likes;

10 And you shall bring it to your father, that he may eat, and that he may bless you in the presence of the LORD before his death.

11 And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man and I am a smooth man;

12 Perhaps my father will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a mocker; and I Shall bring a curse upon myself, and not a blessing.

13 And his mother said to him, Let your curses be upon me, my son; only listen to me, and go and fetch them to me.

14 So he went and picked them up, and brought them to his mother; and his mother made a stew, such as his father liked.

15 And Rebekah took the best clothes of her elder son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them upon Jacob her younger son;

16 And she put the skins of the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon the back of his neck;

17 And she gave the stew and the bread which she had prepared into the hand of her son Jacob.

18 And he brought them in to his father, and said, My father; and he said, Here am I. Then he said, Who are you, my son?

19 And Jacob said to his father, I am Esau, your first-born; I have done as you told me; now arise and sit up and eat of my game, that your soul may bless me.

20 And Isaac said to his son, How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son? And he said, Because the LORD your God brought it my way.

21 Then Isaac said to Jacob his son, Come near me, that I may feel you, my son, to know whether you are my son Esau or not.

22 And Jacob drew near to Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are Esau's.

23 But he did not recognize him, because his hands were hairy, like his brother Esau's hands; so he blessed him.

24 And he said, Are you my very son Esau? And Jacob said, I am.

25 And he said, Bring the stew near to me, and I will eat of my son's game, that my soul may bless you. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat; and he brought him wine, and he drank.

26 And his father Isaac said to him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son; so he drew near and kissed him;

27 And he came near, and kissed him; and he smelled the smell of his garments, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field which the LORD has blessed;

28 Therefore may God give you of the dew of heaven and the richness of the earth, and the abundance of wheat and wine;

29 Let people serve you, and nations bow down to you; be a prince over your brethren, and let your mother's sons bow down to you; cursed be they who curse you, and blessed be they who bless you.

30 And it came to pass when Isaac had finished blessing Jacob and Jacob had gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, behold, Esau his brother came in from his hunting.

31 And he also made stew, and brought it to his father, and said to his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son's game, that your soul may bless me.

32 And Isaac his father said to him, Who are you? And he said, I am your son, your first-born, Esau.

33 And Isaac was greatly alarmed, and said, Who was it then that hunted game and brought it to me? I have eaten of everything before you came, and I have blessed him, yea, and he shall be blessed.

34 And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried out bitterly, and said to his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father.

35 But his father said, Your brother came with deceit, and has already received your blessing.

36 And Esau said, Is he not rightly named Jacob? For he has acted treacherously toward me twice: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he has taken away my blessing. And Esau said to his father, Have you not reserved a blessing for me?

37 And Isaac answered and said to Esau, Behold, I have made him a prince over you, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with wheat and wine have I sustained him; and what shall I do now for you, my son?

38 And Esau said to his father, Have you only one blessing, my father? Bless me, even me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice and wept.

39 And Isaac his father answered and said to him, Behold, your dwelling shall be in the fertile places of the earth, and the dew of heaven shall fall upon you from above;

40 And by your sword you shall live, and you shall serve your brother; but if you shall repent, his yoke shall pass away from off your neck.

41 And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessings with which his father had blessed him; and Esau said in his heart, After the days of mourning for my father are over, then I will slay my brother Jacob.

42 And the words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebekah; so she sent and called her younger son Jacob, and said to him, Behold, your brother Esau is threatening to kill you.

43 Now therefore, my son, hearken to me; and arise, and go to Laban my brother, to Haran;

44 And stay there a few days, until your brother's fury is spent;

45 Until your brother's anger turns away from you, and he forgets what you have done to him; then I will send messengers, and bring you back from there; lest I be deprived also of both of you in one day.

46 Then Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth; if Jacob takes a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these which are of the daughters of the land, what good will my life be to me?

11 And Jacob3290 said559 to Rebekah7259 his mother,517 Behold,2005 Esau6215 my brother251 is a hairy8163 man,376 and I am a smooth2509 man:376

11 And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man and I am a smooth man;

13 And his mother said to him, Let your curses be upon me, my son; only listen to me, and go and fetch them to me.

14 And he went,3212 and fetched,3947 and brought935 them to his mother:517 and his mother517 made6213 savoury4303 meat, such as his father1 loved.157

14 So he went and picked them up, and brought them to his mother; and his mother made a stew, such as his father liked.

15 And Rebekah7259 took3947 goodly2530 raiment899 of her oldest1419 son1121 Esau,6215 which were with her in the house,1004 and put3847 them on Jacob3290 her younger6996 son:1121

17 And she gave the stew and the bread which she had prepared into the hand of her son Jacob.

18 And he came935 to his father,1 and said,559 My father:1 and he said,559 Here2009 am I; who4310 are you, my son?1121

18 And he brought them in to his father, and said, My father; and he said, Here am I. Then he said, Who are you, my son?

19 And Jacob3290 said559 to his father,1 I am Esau6215 your first born;1060 I have done6213 according as you bade1696 me: arise,6965 I pray4994 you, sit3427 and eat398 of my venison,6718 that your soul5315 may bless1288 me.

19 And Jacob said to his father, I am Esau, your first-born; I have done as you told me; now arise and sit up and eat of my game, that your soul may bless me.

20 And Isaac3327 said559 to his son,1121 How4100 is it that you have found4672 it so quickly,4116 my son?1121 And he said,559 Because3588 the LORD3068 your God430 brought7136 it to me.

20 And Isaac said to his son, How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son? And he said, Because the LORD your God brought it my way.

21 And Isaac3327 said559 to Jacob,3290 Come5066 near,5066 I pray4994 you, that I may feel4184 you, my son,1121 whether you be my very2088 son1121 Esau6215 or not.

21 Then Isaac said to Jacob his son, Come near me, that I may feel you, my son, to know whether you are my son Esau or not.

22 And Jacob3290 went5066 near5066 to Isaac3327 his father;1 and he felt4959 him, and said,559 The voice6963 is Jacob's3290 voice,6963 but the hands3027 are the hands3027 of Esau.6215

22 And Jacob drew near to Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are Esau's.

23 And he discerned5234 him not, because3588 his hands3027 were hairy,8163 as his brother251 Esau's6215 hands:3027 so he blessed1288 him.

23 But he did not recognize him, because his hands were hairy, like his brother Esau's hands; so he blessed him.

24 And he said,559 Are you my very2088 son1121 Esau?6215 And he said,559 I am.

24 And he said, Are you my very son Esau? And Jacob said, I am.

25 And he said,559 Bring5066 it near5066 to me, and I will eat398 of my son's1121 venison,6718 that my soul5315 may bless1288 you. And he brought5066 it near5066 to him, and he did eat:398 and he brought935 him wine 3196and he drank.8354

25 And he said, Bring the stew near to me, and I will eat of my son's game, that my soul may bless you. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat; and he brought him wine, and he drank.

26 And his father1 Isaac3327 said559 to him, Come5066 near5066 now,4994 and kiss5401 me, my son.1121

26 And his father Isaac said to him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son; so he drew near and kissed him;

27 And he came near, and kissed him; and he smelled the smell of his garments, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field which the LORD has blessed;

28 Therefore God430 give5414 you of the dew2919 of heaven,8064 and the fatness4924 of the earth,776 and plenty7230 of corn1715 and wine:8492

28 Therefore may God give you of the dew of heaven and the richness of the earth, and the abundance of wheat and wine;

29 Let people serve you, and nations bow down to you; be a prince over your brethren, and let your mother's sons bow down to you; cursed be they who curse you, and blessed be they who bless you.

30 And it came to pass when Isaac had finished blessing Jacob and Jacob had gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, behold, Esau his brother came in from his hunting.

31 And he also1571 had made6213 savoury4303 meat, and brought935 it to his father,1 and said559 to his father,1 Let my father1 arise,6965 and eat398 of his son's1121 venison,6718 that your soul5315 may bless1288 me.

31 And he also made stew, and brought it to his father, and said to his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son's game, that your soul may bless me.

32 And Isaac3327 his father1 said559 to him, Who4310 are you? And he said,559 I am your son,1121 your firstborn1060 Esau.6215

32 And Isaac his father said to him, Who are you? And he said, I am your son, your first-born, Esau.

33 And Isaac was greatly alarmed, and said, Who was it then that hunted game and brought it to me? I have eaten of everything before you came, and I have blessed him, yea, and he shall be blessed.

34 And when Esau6215 heard8085 the words1697 of his father,1 he cried6817 with a great1419 and exceeding3966 bitter4751 cry,6818 and said559 to his father,1 Bless1288 me, even1571 me also,1571 O my father.1

34 And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried out bitterly, and said to his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father.

35 And he said,559 Your brother251 came935 with subtlety,4820 and has taken3947 away your blessing.1293

35 But his father said, Your brother came with deceit, and has already received your blessing.

36 And Esau said, Is he not rightly named Jacob? For he has acted treacherously toward me twice: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he has taken away my blessing. And Esau said to his father, Have you not reserved a blessing for me?

37 And Isaac3327 answered6030 and said559 to Esau,6215 Behold,2005 I have made7760 him your lord,1376 and all3605 his brothers251 have I given5414 to him for servants;5650 and with corn1715 and wine8492 have I sustained5564 him: and what4100 shall I do6213 now645 to you, my son?1121

37 And Isaac answered and said to Esau, Behold, I have made him a prince over you, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with wheat and wine have I sustained him; and what shall I do now for you, my son?

38 And Esau6215 said559 to his father,1 Have you but one259 blessing,1293 my father?1 bless1288 me, even1571 me also,1571 O my father.1 And Esau6215 lifted5375 up his voice,6963 and wept.1058

38 And Esau said to his father, Have you only one blessing, my father? Bless me, even me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice and wept.

39 And Isaac3327 his father1 answered6030 and said559 to him, Behold,2009 your dwelling4186 shall be the fatness4924 of the earth,776 and of the dew2919 of heaven8064 from above;5921

39 And Isaac his father answered and said to him, Behold, your dwelling shall be in the fertile places of the earth, and the dew of heaven shall fall upon you from above;

40 And by your sword2719 shall you live,2421 and shall serve5647 your brother;251 and it shall come1961 to pass when834 you shall have the dominion,7300 that you shall break6561 his yoke5923 from off5921 your neck.6677

40 And by your sword you shall live, and you shall serve your brother; but if you shall repent, his yoke shall pass away from off your neck.

41 And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessings with which his father had blessed him; and Esau said in his heart, After the days of mourning for my father are over, then I will slay my brother Jacob.

42 And the words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebekah; so she sent and called her younger son Jacob, and said to him, Behold, your brother Esau is threatening to kill you.

43 Now6258 therefore, my son,1121 obey8085 my voice;6963 arise,6965 flee1272 you to Laban3837 my brother251 to Haran;2771

43 Now therefore, my son, hearken to me; and arise, and go to Laban my brother, to Haran;

44 And tarry3427 with him a few259 days,3117 until5704 834 your brother's251 fury2534 turn7725 away;

44 And stay there a few days, until your brother's fury is spent;

45 Until5704 your brother's251 anger639 turn7725 away from you, and he forget7911 that which834 you have done6213 to him: then I will send,7971 and fetch3947 you from there:8033 why4100 should I be deprived7921 also1571 of you both8147 in one259 day?3117

45 Until your brother's anger turns away from you, and he forgets what you have done to him; then I will send messengers, and bring you back from there; lest I be deprived also of both of you in one day.

46 Then Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth; if Jacob takes a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these which are of the daughters of the land, what good will my life be to me?
