Jeremiah

Chapter 50

1 CONCERNING Babylon, the word that the LORD spoke against Babylon and against the land of the Chaldeans by Jeremiah the prophet.

2 Declare among the nations and publish and raise an ensign; publish, and conceal not: say, Babylon is taken, Bel is fallen, Merodach is put to shame, her idols are confounded and her graven images are broken in pieces.

3 For out of the north there comes up a nation against her which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell in it; they shall flee, they shall depart, both man and beast.

4 In those days and in that time, says the LORD, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping and seeking the LORD their God.

5 They shall ask the way to Zion, with their faces towards it, saying, Come, let us join ourselves to the LORD in an everlasting covenant which shall not be forgotten.

6 My people have been like lost sheep; their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have scattered them on the mountains; they have gone from mountains to hills, they have forgotten their fold.

7 All who found them have devoured them; and their adversaries have said, We shall not spare them, because they have sinned against the LORD and against his righteous habitation; even the LORD, the hope of their families.

8 Flee from the midst of Babylon and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the he-goats before the flocks.

9 For, behold, I will stir up and cause to come against Babylon a multitude of many nations from the north country; and they shall set themselves in array against her; from thence she shall be taken; their arrows shall be as those of an expert archer; none shall return empty.

10 And the land of the Chaldeans shall be a spoil; all that plunder her shall be satisfied, says the LORD.

11 Because you were glad, because you rejoiced over the destruction of my heritage, you leaped for joy like fat heifers and you danced like the rams of the flock:

12 Your mother is exceedingly ashamed; she who bore you is confounded: behold, the last of the nations shall become wilderness, waste, and desolation.

13 Because of the wrath of the LORD it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly desolate; every one who passes by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss at all her wounds.

14 Set yourselves in array against Babylon round about; all you that know how to bend the bow, shoot at her, spare no arrows; for she has sinned against the LORD.

15 Shout against her round about; she has surrendered, her foundations are fallen, her walls are demolished; for it is the vengeance of the LORD. Take vengeance upon her; as she has done to others, do so to her.

16 Cut off from Babylon both the sower and him that handles the sickle in the time of harvest; because of the fear of the oppressing sword, they shall turn every one to his people, and they shall flee every one to his own land.

17 Israel is a lost ewe; the lions have caused him to go astray; first the king of Assyria has devoured him; and at last this Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has inflicted a more grievous wound than the other.

18 Therefore, thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.

19 And I will bring Israel again to his habitation, and he shall feed on Carmel and on Mathnin and mount Ephraim and Gilead; and his soul shall be satisfied.

20 In those days and in that time, says the LORD, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found; for I will pardon those whom I reserve as a remnant.

21 Go up against the rebellious land, go up against it, and against its inhabitants; unsheath the sword and destroy them, says the LORD, and do according to all that I have commanded you.

22 A sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction.

23 How is the mighty one of the whole earth defeated and taken! How has Babylon become an amazement among the nations!

24 Babylon has stumbled and she is taken; she did not know that she stood up against the LORD.

25 The LORD has opened his armory and brought forth weapons of his indignation; for this is the work of the LORD God of hosts in the land of the Chaldeans.

26 Come against her from round about her, open her gates; leave her as a naked woman and destroy her utterly; let nothing be left of her.

27 Destroy her; and let all her offspring be delivered to the slaughter; woe to them! for their day is come, the time of their punishment.

28 The voice of those who flee and escape from the land of Babylon to declare in Zion the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance of his temple.

29 Call together great armies against Babylon: all who know how to bend the bow shoot against her round about; let none be spared; recompense her according to her works; according to all that she had done, do to her; for she has ventured against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.

30 Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all her men of war shall be silenced on that day.

31 Behold, I am against you, O boaster, says the LORD God of hosts; for your day has come, the time of your punishment.

32 And the boaster shall be overthrown and fall, and none shall raise him up; and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all round about him.

33 Thus says the LORD of hosts: The children of Israel and the children of Judah are oppressed together; and all who took them captive have held them fast; they refused to let them go.

34 Their Saviour is strong; the LORD of hosts is his name; he shall thoroughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the earth, and disquiet all the inhabitants of Babylon.

35 A sword is upon the Chaldeans, says the LORD, and upon all the inhabitants of Babylon and upon her princes and upon her wise men.

36 A sword is upon her soothsayers, and they shall be dismayed; a sword is upon her mighty men, and they shall be defeated.

37 A sword is upon her horses and upon her chariots and upon all sojourners that are in the midst of her; and they shall become cowards; a sword is upon her treasures, and they shall be plundered.

38 A drought is upon her waters, and they shall be dried up; for she is the land of the makers of images, who boast in their idols.

39 Therefore screech-owls shall dwell in her, and ostriches shall inhabit her; and she shall be no more inhabited for ever; neither shall she be inhabited throughout generations.

40 She shall become like Sodom and Gomorrah when God destroyed them and their inhabitants; so no man shall dwell there, neither shall any son of man live there.

41 Behold, a people is coming from the north, a great nation, and many kings shall be stirred up from the uttermost parts of the earth.

42 They are armed with bows and lances; they are cruel and have no mercy; their voices are like the roaring of the sea, and they ride upon horses, arrayed as mighty men to the battle against you, O daughter of Babylon.

43 The king of Babylon has heard the report of them, and his hands weakened; anguish took hold of him, and pangs as of a woman in travail.

44 Behold, the enemy shall come up like a lion from the thickets of Jordan against the folds of Athan; and I will make the people suddenly run away from Babylon; and I will charge young warriors against her; for who is like me? Or who shall assail me? Or what leader is there who can prevail against me?

45 Therefore, hear the counsel of the LORD which he has taken against Babylon; and his purposes, that he has proposed against the land of the Chaldeans; for they shall shear even the least of the flock, and they shall make their folds a desolation upon them.

46 At the noise of the capture of Babylon the earth is moved and her wailing is heard among the nations.

Jeremiah

Chapter 50

1 The word1697 that the LORD3068 spoke1696 against413 Babylon894 and against413 the land776 of the Chaldeans3778 by Jeremiah3414 the prophet.5030

2 Declare5046 you among the nations,1471 and publish,8085 and set5375 up a standard;5251 publish,8085 and conceal3582 not: say,559 Babylon894 is taken,3920 Bel1078 is confounded,3001 Merodach4781 is broken2844 in pieces; her idols6091 are confounded,3001 her images1544 are broken2865 in pieces.

3 For out of the north6828 there comes5927 up a nation1471 against5921 her, which1931 shall make7896 her land776 desolate,8047 and none3808 shall dwell3427 therein: they shall remove,5110 they shall depart,1980 both man120 and beast.929

4 In those1992 days,3117 and in that time,6256 said5002 the LORD,3068 the children1121 of Israel3478 shall come,935 they and the children1121 of Judah3063 together,3162 going1980 and weeping:1058 they shall go,3212 and seek1245 the LORD3068 their God.430

5 They shall ask7592 the way1870 to Zion6726 with their faces6440 thitherward,2008 saying, Come,935 and let us join3867 ourselves to the LORD3068 in a perpetual5769 covenant1285 that shall not be forgotten.7911

6 My people5971 has been1961 lost6 sheep:6629 their shepherds7462 have caused them to go8582 astray,8582 they have turned7725 them away on the mountains:2022 they have gone1980 from mountain2022 to hill,1389 they have forgotten7911 their resting place.7258

7 All3605 that found4672 them have devoured398 them: and their adversaries6862 said,559 We offend816 not, because8471 834 they have sinned2398 against the LORD,3068 the habitation5116 of justice,6664 even the LORD,3068 the hope4723 of their fathers.1

8 Remove5110 out of the middle8432 of Babylon,894 and go3318 forth3318 out of the land776 of the Chaldeans,3778 and be as the he goats6260 before6440 the flocks.6629

9 For, see,2009 I will raise5782 and cause to come5927 up against5921 Babylon894 an assembly6951 of great1419 nations1471 from the north6828 country:776 and they shall set themselves in array6186 against her; from there8033 she shall be taken:3920 their arrows2671 shall be as of a mighty1368 expert7919 man; none3808 shall return7725 in vain.7387

10 And Chaldea3778 shall be a spoil:7998 all3605 that spoil7998 her shall be satisfied,7646 said5002 the LORD.3068

11 Because3588 you were glad,8056 because3588 you rejoiced,5937 O you destroyers8154 of my heritage,5159 because3588 you are grown6335 fat6335 as the heifer5697 at grass,1877 and bellow6670 as bulls;47

12 Your mother517 shall be sore3966 confounded;954 she that bore3205 you shall be ashamed:2659 behold,2009 the last319 of the nations1471 shall be a wilderness,4057 a dry6723 land, and a desert.6160

13 Because of the wrath7110 of the LORD3068 it shall not be inhabited,3427 but it shall be wholly3605 desolate:8077 every3605 one that goes5674 by Babylon894 shall be astonished,8074 and hiss8319 at5921 all3605 her plagues.4347

14 Put yourselves in array6186 against5921 Babylon894 round5439 about: all3605 you that bend1869 the bow,7198 shoot3034 at413 her, spare2550 no408 arrows:2671 for she has sinned2398 against the LORD.3068

15 Shout7321 against5921 her round5439 about: she has given5414 her hand:3027 her foundations803 are fallen,5307 her walls2346 are thrown2040 down:2040 for it is the vengeance5360 of the LORD:3068 take vengeance5358 on her; as she has done,6213 do6213 to her.

16 Cut3772 off the sower2232 from Babylon,894 and him that handles8610 the sickle4038 in the time6256 of harvest:7105 for fear6440 of the oppressing3238 sword2719 they shall turn6437 every376 one376 to his people,5971 and they shall flee5127 every376 one376 to his own land.776

17 Israel3478 is a scattered6340 sheep;7716 the lions738 have driven5080 him away: first7223 the king4428 of Assyria804 has devoured398 him; and last314 this2088 Nebuchadrezzar5019 king4428 of Babylon894 has broken6105 his bones.6106

18 Therefore5921 3651 thus3541 said559 the LORD3068 of hosts,6635 the God430 of Israel;3478 Behold,2005 I will punish6485 the king4428 of Babylon894 and his land,776 as I have punished6485 the king4428 of Assyria.804

19 And I will bring7725 Israel3478 again7725 to his habitation,5116 and he shall feed7462 on Carmel3760 and Bashan,1316 and his soul5315 shall be satisfied7646 on mount2022 Ephraim669 and Gilead.1568

20 In those1992 days,3117 and in that time,6256 said5002 the LORD,3068 the iniquity5771 of Israel3478 shall be sought1245 for, and there shall be none;369 and the sins2403 of Judah,3063 and they shall not be found:4672 for I will pardon5545 them whom834 I reserve.7604

21 Go5927 up against5921 the land776 of Merathaim,4850 even against5921 it, and against413 the inhabitants3427 of Pekod:6489 waste2717 and utterly destroy2763 after310 them, said5002 the LORD,3068 and do6213 according to all3605 that I have commanded6680 you.

22 A sound6963 of battle4421 is in the land,776 and of great1419 destruction.7667

23 How349 is the hammer6360 of the whole3605 earth776 cut1438 asunder and broken!7665 how349 is Babylon894 become1961 a desolation8047 among the nations!1471

24 I have laid a snare3369 for you, and you are also1571 taken,3920 O Babylon,894 and you were not aware:3045 you are found,4672 and also1571 caught,8610 because3588 you have striven1624 against the LORD.3068

25 The LORD3068 has opened6605 his armory,214 and has brought3318 forth3318 the weapons3627 of his indignation:2195 for this1931 is the work4399 of the Lord136 GOD3069 of hosts6635 in the land776 of the Chaldeans.3778

26 Come935 against her from the utmost7093 border,7093 open6605 her storehouses:3965 cast5549 her up as heaps,6194 and destroy2763 her utterly: let nothing408 of her be left.7611

27 Slay2717 all3605 her bullocks;6499 let them go3381 down3381 to the slaughter:2874 woe1945 to them! for their day3117 is come,935 the time6256 of their visitation.6486

28 The voice6963 of them that flee5127 and escape6412 out of the land776 of Babylon,894 to declare5046 in Zion6726 the vengeance5360 of the LORD3068 our God,430 the vengeance5360 of his temple.1964

29 Call8085 together the archers7228 against413 Babylon:894 all3605 you that bend1869 the bow,7198 camp2583 against5921 it round5439 about; let none408 thereof escape:6413 recompense7999 her according to her work;6467 according to all3605 that she has done,6213 do6213 to her: for she has been proud2102 against413 the LORD,3068 against413 the Holy6944 One of Israel.3478

30 Therefore5921 3651 shall her young970 men fall5307 in the streets,7339 and all3605 her men582 of war4421 shall be cut1826 off in that day,3117 said5002 the LORD.3068

31 Behold,2005 I am against413 you, O you most proud,2087 said5002 the Lord136 GOD3069 of hosts:6635 for your day3117 is come,935 the time6256 that I will visit6485 you.

32 And the most proud2087 shall stumble3782 and fall,5307 and none369 shall raise6965 him up: and I will kindle3341 a fire784 in his cities,5892 and it shall devour398 all3605 round5439 about him.

33 Thus3541 said559 the LORD3068 of hosts;6635 The children1121 of Israel3478 and the children1121 of Judah3063 were oppressed6231 together:3162 and all3605 that took them captives7617 held2388 them fast; they refused3985 to let them go.7971

34 Their Redeemer1350 is strong;2389 the LORD3068 of hosts6635 is his name:8034 he shall thoroughly plead7378 their cause,7379 that he may give rest7280 to the land,776 and disquiet7264 the inhabitants3427 of Babylon.894

35 A sword2719 is on the Chaldeans,3778 said5002 the LORD,3068 and on the inhabitants3427 of Babylon,894 and on her princes,8269 and on her wise2450 men.

36 A sword2719 is on the liars;907 and they shall dote:2973 a sword2719 is on her mighty1368 men; and they shall be dismayed.2865

37 A sword2719 is on their horses,5483 and on their chariots,7393 and on all3605 the mingled6154 people that are in the middle8432 of her; and they shall become1961 as women:802 a sword2719 is on her treasures;214 and they shall be robbed.962

38 A drought2721 is on her waters;4325 and they shall be dried3001 up: for it is the land776 of graven6456 images, and they are mad1984 on their idols.367

39 Therefore5921 3651 the wild6728 beasts6728 of the desert6728 with the wild338 beasts338 of the islands339 shall dwell3427 there, and the owls1323 3284 shall dwell3427 therein: and it shall be no3808 more5750 inhabited3427 for ever;5331 neither3808 shall it be dwelled7931 in from generation1755 to generation.1755

40 As God430 overthrew4114 Sodom5467 and Gomorrah6017 and the neighbor7934 cities thereof, said5002 the LORD;3068 so shall no3808 man376 abide3427 there,8033 neither3808 shall any son1121 of man120 dwell1481 therein.

41 Behold,2009 a people5971 shall come935 from the north,6828 and a great1419 nation,1471 and many7227 kings4428 shall be raised5782 up from the coasts3411 of the earth.776

42 They shall hold2388 the bow7198 and the lance:3591 they are cruel,394 and will not show mercy:7355 their voice6963 shall roar1993 like the sea,3220 and they shall ride7392 on horses,5483 every one put in array,6186 like a man376 to the battle,4421 against5921 you, O daughter1323 of Babylon.894

43 The king4428 of Babylon894 has heard8085 the report8088 of them, and his hands3027 waxed feeble:7503 anguish6869 took hold2388 of him, and pangs2427 as of a woman in travail.3205

44 Behold,2009 he shall come5927 up like a lion738 from the swelling1347 of Jordan3383 to the habitation5116 of the strong:386 but I will make them suddenly7280 run7323 away from her: and who4310 is a chosen970 man, that I may appoint6485 over413 her? for who4310 is like3644 me? and who4310 will appoint3259 me the time? and who4310 is that shepherd7462 that will stand5975 before6440 me?

45 Therefore5921 3651 hear8085 you the counsel6098 of the LORD,3068 that he has taken3289 against413 Babylon;894 and his purposes,4284 that he has purposed2803 against413 the land776 of the Chaldeans:3778 Surely518 3808 the least6810 of the flock6629 shall draw5498 them out: surely518 3808 he shall make their habitation5116 desolate8074 with them.

46 At the noise6963 of the taking8610 of Babylon894 the earth776 is moved,7493 and the cry2201 is heard8085 among the nations.1471

1 The word1697 that the LORD3068 spoke1696 against413 Babylon894 and against413 the land776 of the Chaldeans3778 by Jeremiah3414 the prophet.5030

2 Declare among the nations and publish and raise an ensign; publish, and conceal not: say, Babylon is taken, Bel is fallen, Merodach is put to shame, her idols are confounded and her graven images are broken in pieces.

3 For out of the north there comes up a nation against her which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell in it; they shall flee, they shall depart, both man and beast.

3 For out of the north6828 there comes5927 up a nation1471 against5921 her, which1931 shall make7896 her land776 desolate,8047 and none3808 shall dwell3427 therein: they shall remove,5110 they shall depart,1980 both man120 and beast.929

4 In those days and in that time, says the LORD, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping and seeking the LORD their God.

5 They shall ask the way to Zion, with their faces towards it, saying, Come, let us join ourselves to the LORD in an everlasting covenant which shall not be forgotten.

5 They shall ask7592 the way1870 to Zion6726 with their faces6440 thitherward,2008 saying, Come,935 and let us join3867 ourselves to the LORD3068 in a perpetual5769 covenant1285 that shall not be forgotten.7911

6 My people have been like lost sheep; their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have scattered them on the mountains; they have gone from mountains to hills, they have forgotten their fold.

7 All who found them have devoured them; and their adversaries have said, We shall not spare them, because they have sinned against the LORD and against his righteous habitation; even the LORD, the hope of their families.

7 All3605 that found4672 them have devoured398 them: and their adversaries6862 said,559 We offend816 not, because8471 834 they have sinned2398 against the LORD,3068 the habitation5116 of justice,6664 even the LORD,3068 the hope4723 of their fathers.1

8 Flee from the midst of Babylon and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the he-goats before the flocks.

8 Remove5110 out of the middle8432 of Babylon,894 and go3318 forth3318 out of the land776 of the Chaldeans,3778 and be as the he goats6260 before6440 the flocks.6629

9 For, behold, I will stir up and cause to come against Babylon a multitude of many nations from the north country; and they shall set themselves in array against her; from thence she shall be taken; their arrows shall be as those of an expert archer; none shall return empty.

10 And the land of the Chaldeans shall be a spoil; all that plunder her shall be satisfied, says the LORD.

10 And Chaldea3778 shall be a spoil:7998 all3605 that spoil7998 her shall be satisfied,7646 said5002 the LORD.3068

11 Because you were glad, because you rejoiced over the destruction of my heritage, you leaped for joy like fat heifers and you danced like the rams of the flock:

11 Because3588 you were glad,8056 because3588 you rejoiced,5937 O you destroyers8154 of my heritage,5159 because3588 you are grown6335 fat6335 as the heifer5697 at grass,1877 and bellow6670 as bulls;47

12 Your mother is exceedingly ashamed; she who bore you is confounded: behold, the last of the nations shall become wilderness, waste, and desolation.

12 Your mother517 shall be sore3966 confounded;954 she that bore3205 you shall be ashamed:2659 behold,2009 the last319 of the nations1471 shall be a wilderness,4057 a dry6723 land, and a desert.6160

13 Because of the wrath of the LORD it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly desolate; every one who passes by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss at all her wounds.

14 Set yourselves in array against Babylon round about; all you that know how to bend the bow, shoot at her, spare no arrows; for she has sinned against the LORD.

14 Put yourselves in array6186 against5921 Babylon894 round5439 about: all3605 you that bend1869 the bow,7198 shoot3034 at413 her, spare2550 no408 arrows:2671 for she has sinned2398 against the LORD.3068

15 Shout against her round about; she has surrendered, her foundations are fallen, her walls are demolished; for it is the vengeance of the LORD. Take vengeance upon her; as she has done to others, do so to her.

16 Cut off from Babylon both the sower and him that handles the sickle in the time of harvest; because of the fear of the oppressing sword, they shall turn every one to his people, and they shall flee every one to his own land.

17 Israel is a lost ewe; the lions have caused him to go astray; first the king of Assyria has devoured him; and at last this Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has inflicted a more grievous wound than the other.

18 Therefore, thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.

18 Therefore5921 3651 thus3541 said559 the LORD3068 of hosts,6635 the God430 of Israel;3478 Behold,2005 I will punish6485 the king4428 of Babylon894 and his land,776 as I have punished6485 the king4428 of Assyria.804

19 And I will bring Israel again to his habitation, and he shall feed on Carmel and on Mathnin and mount Ephraim and Gilead; and his soul shall be satisfied.

19 And I will bring7725 Israel3478 again7725 to his habitation,5116 and he shall feed7462 on Carmel3760 and Bashan,1316 and his soul5315 shall be satisfied7646 on mount2022 Ephraim669 and Gilead.1568

20 In those days and in that time, says the LORD, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found; for I will pardon those whom I reserve as a remnant.

21 Go up against the rebellious land, go up against it, and against its inhabitants; unsheath the sword and destroy them, says the LORD, and do according to all that I have commanded you.

22 A sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction.

22 A sound6963 of battle4421 is in the land,776 and of great1419 destruction.7667

23 How is the mighty one of the whole earth defeated and taken! How has Babylon become an amazement among the nations!

23 How349 is the hammer6360 of the whole3605 earth776 cut1438 asunder and broken!7665 how349 is Babylon894 become1961 a desolation8047 among the nations!1471

24 Babylon has stumbled and she is taken; she did not know that she stood up against the LORD.

24 I have laid a snare3369 for you, and you are also1571 taken,3920 O Babylon,894 and you were not aware:3045 you are found,4672 and also1571 caught,8610 because3588 you have striven1624 against the LORD.3068

25 The LORD has opened his armory and brought forth weapons of his indignation; for this is the work of the LORD God of hosts in the land of the Chaldeans.

25 The LORD3068 has opened6605 his armory,214 and has brought3318 forth3318 the weapons3627 of his indignation:2195 for this1931 is the work4399 of the Lord136 GOD3069 of hosts6635 in the land776 of the Chaldeans.3778

26 Come against her from round about her, open her gates; leave her as a naked woman and destroy her utterly; let nothing be left of her.

26 Come935 against her from the utmost7093 border,7093 open6605 her storehouses:3965 cast5549 her up as heaps,6194 and destroy2763 her utterly: let nothing408 of her be left.7611

27 Destroy her; and let all her offspring be delivered to the slaughter; woe to them! for their day is come, the time of their punishment.

27 Slay2717 all3605 her bullocks;6499 let them go3381 down3381 to the slaughter:2874 woe1945 to them! for their day3117 is come,935 the time6256 of their visitation.6486

28 The voice of those who flee and escape from the land of Babylon to declare in Zion the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance of his temple.

28 The voice6963 of them that flee5127 and escape6412 out of the land776 of Babylon,894 to declare5046 in Zion6726 the vengeance5360 of the LORD3068 our God,430 the vengeance5360 of his temple.1964

29 Call together great armies against Babylon: all who know how to bend the bow shoot against her round about; let none be spared; recompense her according to her works; according to all that she had done, do to her; for she has ventured against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.

30 Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all her men of war shall be silenced on that day.

30 Therefore5921 3651 shall her young970 men fall5307 in the streets,7339 and all3605 her men582 of war4421 shall be cut1826 off in that day,3117 said5002 the LORD.3068

31 Behold, I am against you, O boaster, says the LORD God of hosts; for your day has come, the time of your punishment.

31 Behold,2005 I am against413 you, O you most proud,2087 said5002 the Lord136 GOD3069 of hosts:6635 for your day3117 is come,935 the time6256 that I will visit6485 you.

32 And the boaster shall be overthrown and fall, and none shall raise him up; and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all round about him.

32 And the most proud2087 shall stumble3782 and fall,5307 and none369 shall raise6965 him up: and I will kindle3341 a fire784 in his cities,5892 and it shall devour398 all3605 round5439 about him.

33 Thus says the LORD of hosts: The children of Israel and the children of Judah are oppressed together; and all who took them captive have held them fast; they refused to let them go.

33 Thus3541 said559 the LORD3068 of hosts;6635 The children1121 of Israel3478 and the children1121 of Judah3063 were oppressed6231 together:3162 and all3605 that took them captives7617 held2388 them fast; they refused3985 to let them go.7971

34 Their Saviour is strong; the LORD of hosts is his name; he shall thoroughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the earth, and disquiet all the inhabitants of Babylon.

34 Their Redeemer1350 is strong;2389 the LORD3068 of hosts6635 is his name:8034 he shall thoroughly plead7378 their cause,7379 that he may give rest7280 to the land,776 and disquiet7264 the inhabitants3427 of Babylon.894

35 A sword is upon the Chaldeans, says the LORD, and upon all the inhabitants of Babylon and upon her princes and upon her wise men.

35 A sword2719 is on the Chaldeans,3778 said5002 the LORD,3068 and on the inhabitants3427 of Babylon,894 and on her princes,8269 and on her wise2450 men.

36 A sword is upon her soothsayers, and they shall be dismayed; a sword is upon her mighty men, and they shall be defeated.

36 A sword2719 is on the liars;907 and they shall dote:2973 a sword2719 is on her mighty1368 men; and they shall be dismayed.2865

37 A sword is upon her horses and upon her chariots and upon all sojourners that are in the midst of her; and they shall become cowards; a sword is upon her treasures, and they shall be plundered.

37 A sword2719 is on their horses,5483 and on their chariots,7393 and on all3605 the mingled6154 people that are in the middle8432 of her; and they shall become1961 as women:802 a sword2719 is on her treasures;214 and they shall be robbed.962

38 A drought is upon her waters, and they shall be dried up; for she is the land of the makers of images, who boast in their idols.

38 A drought2721 is on her waters;4325 and they shall be dried3001 up: for it is the land776 of graven6456 images, and they are mad1984 on their idols.367

39 Therefore screech-owls shall dwell in her, and ostriches shall inhabit her; and she shall be no more inhabited for ever; neither shall she be inhabited throughout generations.

40 She shall become like Sodom and Gomorrah when God destroyed them and their inhabitants; so no man shall dwell there, neither shall any son of man live there.

41 Behold, a people is coming from the north, a great nation, and many kings shall be stirred up from the uttermost parts of the earth.

41 Behold,2009 a people5971 shall come935 from the north,6828 and a great1419 nation,1471 and many7227 kings4428 shall be raised5782 up from the coasts3411 of the earth.776

42 They are armed with bows and lances; they are cruel and have no mercy; their voices are like the roaring of the sea, and they ride upon horses, arrayed as mighty men to the battle against you, O daughter of Babylon.

43 The king of Babylon has heard the report of them, and his hands weakened; anguish took hold of him, and pangs as of a woman in travail.

43 The king4428 of Babylon894 has heard8085 the report8088 of them, and his hands3027 waxed feeble:7503 anguish6869 took hold2388 of him, and pangs2427 as of a woman in travail.3205

44 Behold, the enemy shall come up like a lion from the thickets of Jordan against the folds of Athan; and I will make the people suddenly run away from Babylon; and I will charge young warriors against her; for who is like me? Or who shall assail me? Or what leader is there who can prevail against me?

44 Behold,2009 he shall come5927 up like a lion738 from the swelling1347 of Jordan3383 to the habitation5116 of the strong:386 but I will make them suddenly7280 run7323 away from her: and who4310 is a chosen970 man, that I may appoint6485 over413 her? for who4310 is like3644 me? and who4310 will appoint3259 me the time? and who4310 is that shepherd7462 that will stand5975 before6440 me?

45 Therefore, hear the counsel of the LORD which he has taken against Babylon; and his purposes, that he has proposed against the land of the Chaldeans; for they shall shear even the least of the flock, and they shall make their folds a desolation upon them.

46 At the noise of the capture of Babylon the earth is moved and her wailing is heard among the nations.

46 At the noise6963 of the taking8610 of Babylon894 the earth776 is moved,7493 and the cry2201 is heard8085 among the nations.1471
