Глава 1

1 Вот имена сынов Израилевых, которые пришли в Египет, с Иаковом пришли, каждый со своей семьей:

2 Рувим, Симеон, Левий и Иуда,

3 Иссахар, Завулон и Вениамин,

4 Дан и Неффалим, Гад и Асир.

5 Всех прямых потомков Иакова было семьдесят человек (Иосиф уже жил в Египте).

6 Прошли годы. Умер Иосиф, и все братья его, и всë поколение то.

7 Но израильтяне были плодовиты, селенья их детьми были полны, со временем они стали так многочисленны и сильны, что заполнили всю землю Гошен.

8 Когда на египетский престол взошел новый царь, которого уже ничто не связывало с Иосифом,

9 он сказал своим людям: «Смотрите, израильтяне превосходят нас и числом, и силой.

10 Давайте поступим предусмотрительно, чтобы не стало их еще больше. Случись война, они могут примкнуть к нашим врагам и сражаться против нас. А затем они уйдут из страны».

11 Решив изнурить израильтян тяжелым рабским трудом, египтяне поставили над ними надсмотрщиков. И построили евреи для фараона города-хранилища Питом и Раамсес.

12 Однако чем больше угнетали израильтян, тем больше их становилось и тем дальше распространялись они по стране. Это вызывало у египтян опасение и ненависть;

13 они, принуждая израильтян к тяжелому труду, жестоко обращались с ними

14 и дали им испытать всю горечь их рабского положения: заставляли месить глину, делать кирпичи, гнуть спину на полевых и всяких иных работах, на каковые их безжалостно обрекали.

15 Не довольствуясь этим, царь египетский потребовал от еврейских повивальных бабок (одну из них звали Шифра, а другую — Пуа):

16 «Когда будете принимать роды у евреек и увидите при появлении ребенка, что родился сын, убейте его, а если дочь, оставляйте в живых».

17 Но они, будучи женщинами богобоязненными, не делали того, что повелел им царь, и оставляли в живых и мальчиков.

18 Царь египетский послал за повивальными бабками, и, когда спросил их, почему они оставляют еврейских мальчиков в живых,

19 те отвечали фараону: «Еврейки не чета египтянкам: они женщины крепкие и легко рожают еще до нашего прихода».

20 Поэтому и повитухам Бог благоволил, и народ израильский становился все более многочисленным и сильным;

21 и так как повитухи благоговели перед Богом, Он и им даровал счастье в их собственных детях.

22 Тогда фараон приказал всему народу своему бросать в Нил каждого новорожденного сына евреев, а дочерей их позволил оставлять в живых.

Chapter 1

1 THESE are the names of the children of Israel, who came into Egypt; every man and his household came with Jacob:

2 Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,

3 Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,

4 Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

5 And all the persons that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy persons; for Joseph was in Egypt already.

6 And Joseph died, and all his brothers, and all that generation.

7 And the children of Israel were fruitful and increased abundantly, and multiplied and grew exceedingly strong; and the land was filled with them.

8 Now there rose up a new king over Egypt who knew not Joseph.

9 And he said to his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more numerous and stronger than we;

10 Come, let us deal wisely with them, before they multiply, lest when we chance to be at war, they will be added also to our enemies, and fight against us, and so drive us out of the land.

11 Therefore they appointed over them cruel taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh cities with storehouses, Pithom and Raamses.

12 But the more they oppressed them, the more they multiplied and became strong. And the Egyptians were grieved because of the children of Israel.

13 So the Egyptians oppressed the children of Israel severely;

14 And they made their lives bitter with hard labor, in mortar and in bricks and in all manner of work in the field; all their service wherein they made them serve was with rigor.

15 And the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of the one was Puah and the name of the other Shoprah;

16 And he said to them, When you do perform your duties as midwives to the Hebrew women, look out when they kneel to deliver; if it is a male, then you must kill him; but if it is a female, then let her live.

17 But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but let the boys live.

18 So the king of Egypt called for the midwives and said to them, Why have you done this thing, and let the boys live?

19 And the midwives said to Pharaoh, The Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women; for they themselves are midwives, and are delivered before a midwife comes in to them.

20 Therefore God dealt well with the midwives, because they spared the males; and the people multiplied, and grew exceedingly strong.

21 And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, he blessed them with families.

22 And Pharaoh charged all the people, saying, Every son that is born you shall cast into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive.

6 Прошли годы. Умер Иосиф, и все братья его, и всë поколение то.

6 And Joseph died, and all his brothers, and all that generation.

7 Но израильтяне были плодовиты, селенья их детьми были полны, со временем они стали так многочисленны и сильны, что заполнили всю землю Гошен.

7 And the children of Israel were fruitful and increased abundantly, and multiplied and grew exceedingly strong; and the land was filled with them.

8 Now there rose up a new king over Egypt who knew not Joseph.

9 он сказал своим людям: «Смотрите, израильтяне превосходят нас и числом, и силой.

10 Давайте поступим предусмотрительно, чтобы не стало их еще больше. Случись война, они могут примкнуть к нашим врагам и сражаться против нас. А затем они уйдут из страны».

10 Come, let us deal wisely with them, before they multiply, lest when we chance to be at war, they will be added also to our enemies, and fight against us, and so drive us out of the land.

11 Решив изнурить израильтян тяжелым рабским трудом, египтяне поставили над ними надсмотрщиков. И построили евреи для фараона города-хранилища Питом и Раамсес.

12 But the more they oppressed them, the more they multiplied and became strong. And the Egyptians were grieved because of the children of Israel.

13 они, принуждая израильтян к тяжелому труду, жестоко обращались с ними

13 So the Egyptians oppressed the children of Israel severely;

14 и дали им испытать всю горечь их рабского положения: заставляли месить глину, делать кирпичи, гнуть спину на полевых и всяких иных работах, на каковые их безжалостно обрекали.

18 Царь египетский послал за повивальными бабками, и, когда спросил их, почему они оставляют еврейских мальчиков в живых,

18 So the king of Egypt called for the midwives and said to them, Why have you done this thing, and let the boys live?

19 те отвечали фараону: «Еврейки не чета египтянкам: они женщины крепкие и легко рожают еще до нашего прихода».

19 And the midwives said to Pharaoh, The Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women; for they themselves are midwives, and are delivered before a midwife comes in to them.

20 Поэтому и повитухам Бог благоволил, и народ израильский становился все более многочисленным и сильным;

20 Therefore God dealt well with the midwives, because they spared the males; and the people multiplied, and grew exceedingly strong.

21 и так как повитухи благоговели перед Богом, Он и им даровал счастье в их собственных детях.

21 And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, he blessed them with families.

22 Тогда фараон приказал всему народу своему бросать в Нил каждого новорожденного сына евреев, а дочерей их позволил оставлять в живых.

22 And Pharaoh charged all the people, saying, Every son that is born you shall cast into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive.
