1 作長老的寫信給蒙揀選的太太［lady］和她的兒女，就是我在真理中［in the truth］所愛的；不但我愛，也是一切知道真理之人所愛的。

2 愛你們是為真理的緣故，這真理住［dwelleth］在我們裏面，也必永遠與我們同在。
|
2 For the truth's sake,1223 3588 225 which dwelleth3306 in1722 us,2254 and2532 shall be2071 with3326 us2257 forever.1519 165

|
3 恩典［Grace］，憐憫，平安，從父─神和父的［of the Father］兒子主［Lord］耶穌基督，在真理和愛心上，必常與你們［you］同在。
|
3 Grace5485 be2071 with3326 you,5216 mercy,1656 and peace,1515 from3844 God2316 the Father,3962 and2532 from3844 the Lord2962 Jesus2424 Christ,5547 the3588 Son5207 of the3588 Father,3962 in1722 truth225 and2532 love.26

4 我見你的兒女，有照我們從父所受的一條［a］命令遵行真理的，就甚歡喜。
|
4 I rejoiced5463 greatly3029 that3754 I found2147 of1537 thy4675 children5043 walking4043 in1722 truth,225 as2531 we have received2983 a commandment1785 from3844 the3588 Father.3962

5 太太啊，我現在勸你，我們大家要彼此相愛。這並不是我寫一條新命令給你，乃是我們從起初所受的命令。
|
5 And2532 now3568 I beseech2065 thee,4571 lady,2959 not3756 as though5613 I wrote1125 a new2537 commandment1785 unto thee,4671 but235 that which3739 we had2192 from575 the beginning,746 that2443 we love25 one another.240

6 我們若照他的命令行，這就是愛。你們從起初所聽見當行的，就是這命令。
|
6 And2532 this3778 is2076 love,26 that2443 we walk4043 after2596 his848 commandments.1785 This3778 is2076 the3588 commandment,1785 That,2443 as2531 ye have heard191 from575 the beginning,746 ye should walk4043 in1722 it.846

7 因有許多迷惑人的已經進到世界［For many deceivers are entered into the world］，不認［who confess not］耶穌基督是成了肉身來的。這就是迷惑人［a deceiver］、敵基督的。
|
7 For3754 many4183 deceivers4108 are entered1525 into1519 the3588 world,2889 who confess3670 not3361 that Jesus2424 Christ5547 is come2064 in1722 the flesh.4561 This3778 is2076 a deceiver4108 and2532 an antichrist.500

8 你們要小心，使我們不致［that we］失去那些我們做工所得的［those things which we have wrought］，乃要得著滿足的賞賜。
|
8 Look to991 yourselves,1438 that2443 we lose622 not3361 those things which3739 we have wrought,2038 but235 that we receive618 a full4134 reward.3408
|
|
9 凡違背、不常守基督道理的［Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ］，就沒有神。常守基督道理［doctrine of Christ］的，就有父又有子。
|
9 Whosoever3956 transgresseth,3845 and2532 abideth3306 not3361 in1722 the3588 doctrine1322 of Christ,5547 hath2192 not3756 God.2316 He that abideth3306 in1722 the3588 doctrine1322 of Christ,5547 he3778 hath2192 both2532 the3588 Father3962 and2532 the3588 Son.5207

10 若有人到你們那裏，不是傳這道理［doctrine］，不要接他到你們［your］家裏，也不要說神祝福他［bid him God speed］；
|
10 If there come any1536 2064 unto4314 you,5209 and2532 bring5342 not3756 this5026 doctrine,1322 receive2983 him846 not3361 into1519 your house,3614 neither2532 3361 bid3004 him846 Godspeed: 5463
|
|
11 因為說神祝福他［biddeth him God speed］的，就在他的惡行上有分。
|
11 For1063 he that biddeth3004 him846 Godspeed5463 is partaker2841 of his848 evil4190 deeds.2041
|
|
12 我還有許多事要寫給你們，卻不願意用紙墨寫出來；但相信我［I trust］到你們那裏，與你們當面談論，叫我們的［that our］喜樂得以［may be］滿足。

12 Having2192 many things4183 to write1125 unto you,5213 I would1014 not3756 write with1223 paper5489 and2532 ink:3188 but235 I trust1679 to come2064 unto4314 you,5209 and2532 speak2980 face to face,4750 4314 4750 that2443 our2257 joy5479 may be5600 full.4137
