Daniel

Chapter 9

1 In the first259 year8141 of Darius1867 the son1121 of Ahasuerus,325 of the seed4480 2233 of the Medes,4074 which834 was made king4427 over5921 the realm4438 of the Chaldeans;3778

2 In the first259 year8141 of his reign4427 I589 Daniel1840 understood995 by books5612 the number4557 of the years,8141 whereof834 the word1697 of the LORD3068 came1961 to413 Jeremiah3414 the prophet,5030 that he would accomplish4390 seventy7657 years8141 in the desolations2723 of Jerusalem.3389

3 And I set5414 853 my face6440 unto413 the Lord136 God,430 to seek1245 by prayer8605 and supplications,8469 with fasting,6685 and sackcloth,8242 and ashes: 665

4 And I prayed6419 unto the LORD3068 my God,430 and made my confession,3034 and said,559 O577 Lord,136 the great1419 and dreadful3372 God,410 keeping8104 the covenant1285 and mercy2617 to them that love157 him, and to them that keep8104 his commandments;4687

5 We have sinned,2398 and have committed iniquity,5753 and have done wickedly,7561 and have rebelled,4775 even by departing5493 from thy precepts4480 4687 and from thy judgments:4480 4941

6 Neither3808 have we hearkened8085 unto413 thy servants5650 the prophets,5030 which834 spoke1696 in thy name8034 to413 our kings,4428 our princes,8269 and our fathers,1 and to413 all3605 the people5971 of the land.776

7 O Lord,136 righteousness6666 belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion1322 of faces,6440 as at this2088 day;3117 to the men376 of Judah,3063 and to the inhabitants3427 of Jerusalem,3389 and unto all3605 Israel,3478 that are near,7138 and that are far off,7350 through all3605 the countries776 whither834 8033 thou hast driven5080 them, because of their trespass4604 that834 they have trespassed4603 against thee.

8 O Lord,3068 to us belongeth confusion1322 of face,6440 to our kings,4428 to our princes,8269 and to our fathers,1 because834 we have sinned2398 against thee.

9 To the Lord136 our God430 belong mercies7356 and forgivenesses,5547 though3588 we have rebelled4775 against him;

10 Neither3808 have we obeyed8085 the voice6963 of the LORD3068 our God,430 to walk1980 in his laws,8451 which834 he set5414 before6440 us by3027 his servants5650 the prophets.5030

11 Yea, all3605 Israel3478 have transgressed5674 853 thy law,8451 even by departing,5493 that they might not1115 obey8085 thy voice;6963 therefore the curse423 is poured5413 upon5921 us, and the oath7621 that834 is written3789 in the law8451 of Moses4872 the servant5650 of God,430 because3588 we have sinned2398 against him.

12 And he hath confirmed6965 853 his words,1697 which834 he spoke1696 against5921 us, and against5921 our judges8199 that834 judged8199 us, by bringing935 upon5921 us a great1419 evil:7451 for834 under8478 the whole3605 heaven8064 hath not3808 been done6213 as834 hath been done6213 upon Jerusalem.3389

13 As834 it is written3789 in the law8451 of Moses,4872 853 all3605 this2063 evil7451 is come935 upon5921 us: yet made we not our prayer2470 3808 853 before6440 the LORD3068 our God,430 that we might turn7725 from our iniquities,4480 5771 and understand7919 thy truth.571

14 Therefore hath the LORD3068 watched8245 upon5921 the evil,7451 and brought935 it upon5921 us: for3588 the LORD3068 our God430 is righteous6662 in5921 all3605 his works4639 which834 he doeth:6213 for we obeyed8085 not3808 his voice.6963

15 And now,6258 O Lord136 our God,430 that834 hast brought thy people forth3318 853 5971 out of the land4480 776 of Egypt4714 with a mighty2389 hand,3027 and hast gotten6213 thee renown,8034 as at this2088 day;3117 we have sinned,2398 we have done wickedly.7561

16 O Lord,136 according to all3605 thy righteousness,6666 I beseech thee,4994 let thine anger639 and thy fury2534 be turned away7725 from thy city4480 5892 Jerusalem,3389 thy holy6944 mountain:2022 because3588 for our sins,2399 and for the iniquities5771 of our fathers,1 Jerusalem3389 and thy people5971 are become a reproach2781 to all3605 that are about5439 us.

17 Now6258 therefore, O our God,430 hear8085 413 the prayer8605 of thy servant,5650 and his supplications,8469 and cause thy face6440 to shine215 upon5921 thy sanctuary4720 that is desolate,8076 for the Lord's sake.4616 136

18 O my God,430 incline5186 thine ear,241 and hear;8085 open6491 thine eyes,5869 and behold7200 our desolations,8074 and the city5892 which834 is called7121 by5921 thy name:8034 for3588 we587 do not3808 present5307 our supplications8469 before6440 thee for5921 our righteousnesses,6666 but3588 for5921 thy great7227 mercies.7356

19 O Lord,136 hear;8085 O Lord,136 forgive;5545 O Lord,136 hearken7181 and do;6213 defer309 not,408 for thine own sake,4616 O my God:430 for3588 thy city5892 and thy people5971 are called7121 by thy name.8034

20 And while5750 I589 was speaking,1696 and praying,6419 and confessing3034 my sin2403 and the sin2403 of my people5971 Israel,3478 and presenting5307 my supplication8467 before6440 the LORD3068 my God430 for5921 the holy6944 mountain2022 of my God;430

21 Yea, while5750 I589 was speaking1696 in prayer,8605 even the man376 Gabriel,1403 whom834 I had seen7200 in the vision2377 at the beginning,8462 being caused to fly3286 swiftly,3288 touched5060 413 me about the time6256 of the evening6153 oblation.4503

22 And he informed995 me, and talked1696 with5973 me, and said,559 O Daniel,1840 I am now6258 come forth3318 to give thee skill7919 and understanding.998

23 At the beginning8462 of thy supplications8469 the commandment1697 came forth,3318 and I589 am come935 to show5046 thee; for3588 thou859 art greatly beloved:2530 therefore understand995 the matter,1697 and consider995 the vision.4758

24 Seventy7657 weeks7620 are determined2852 upon5921 thy people5971 and upon5921 thy holy6944 city,5892 to finish3607 the transgression,6588 and to make an end2856 of sins,2403 and to make reconciliation3722 for iniquity,5771 and to bring in935 everlasting5769 righteousness,6664 and to seal up2856 the vision2377 and prophecy,5030 and to anoint4886 the most Holy.6944 6944

25 Know3045 therefore and understand,7919 that from4480 the going forth4161 of the commandment1697 to restore7725 and to build1129 Jerusalem3389 unto5704 the Messiah4899 the Prince5057 shall be seven7651 weeks,7620 and threescore8346 and two8147 weeks:7620 the street7339 shall be built1129 again,7725 and the wall,2742 even in troublous6695 times.6256

26 And after310 threescore8346 and two8147 weeks7620 shall Messiah4899 be cut off,3772 but not369 for himself: and the people5971 of the prince5057 that shall come935 shall destroy7843 the city5892 and the sanctuary;6944 and the end7093 thereof shall be with a flood,7858 and unto5704 the end7093 of the war4421 desolations8074 are determined.2782

27 And he shall confirm1396 the covenant1285 with many7227 for one259 week:7620 and in the midst2677 of the week7620 he shall cause the sacrifice2077 and the oblation4503 to cease,7673 and for5921 the overspreading3671 of abominations8251 he shall make it desolate,8074 even until5704 the consummation,3617 and that determined2782 shall be poured5413 upon5921 the desolate.8076

Daniel

Chapter 9

1 IN the first year of Darius, the son of Ahasuerus, a descendant of the Medes who became king over the realm of the Chaldeans,

2 In the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by the scriptures the number of the years, seeing that the word of the LORD came to pass which the prophet Jeremiah said, that seventy years would elapse before the desolations of Jerusalem would come to an end.

3 And I lifted up my face before the LORD God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting and with sackcloth and with ashes;

4 And I prayed before the LORD my God and made my confession and said, I beseech thee, O LORD, the great and revered God, who keepest the covenant and mercy to them that love him and to them that keep his commandments;

5 We have sinned and have committed iniquity and have done wickedly and have rebelled and have gone astray from thy commandments and thy judgments;

6 Neither have we listened to thy servants the prophets, who spoke in thy name to our kings, our princes and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.

7 O LORD, victory belongs to thee, but shame is ours, as at this day, to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to all Israel that are near and that are far off, through all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their iniquity which they transgressed against thee.

8 O LORD, to us belongs shame of faces to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee.

9 To the LORD God belong mercies and forgiveness of sins, for we have rebelled against him;

10 Neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk according to his laws which he set before us by his servants the prophets.

11 Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law and have gone astray and have not obeyed thy voice; therefore thou hast brought upon them the curses and the oaths that are written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned in his presence.

12 And he has confirmed his words which he spoke against us and against our judges that judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil; for under the whole heaven has not been done as has been done upon Jerusalem.

13 As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil has come upon us; yet we have not prayed before the LORD our God, that we might repent from our iniquities and understand thy truth.

14 Therefore the LORD has stirred up this evil and brought it upon us; for the LORD our God is righteous in all his works which he has done, and yet we have not obeyed his voice.

15 And now, O LORD our God, who didst bring thy people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and hast made thee a name, as at this day; we have sinned, we have done wickedly.

16 O LORD, according to all thy righteousness which thou didst toward us, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem and from thy holy mountain, because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, thy people are scattered in every land, and Jerusalem has become a reproach to all peoples.

17 Now therefore, O God, hear the prayer of thy servant and his supplication, and cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary which is desolate, for thy name's sake, O LORD.

18 O my God, incline thine ear and hear; open thine eyes and behold our ruined and desolate places and the city which is called by thy name; for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousness, but for thy great mercies.

19 O LORD, hear; O LORD, forgive us; O LORD, hearken and do; delay not for thy own name's sake, O my God, because thy city and thy people are called by thy name.

20 And while I was yet praying and confessing my offenses and the offenses of my people Israel and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God,

21 Yea, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision before, came from heaven, flying swiftly, and drew near me at the time of the evening sacrifice.

22 And he came and talked to me and said to me, O Daniel, I am now come forth to instruct you, so that you might understand.

23 At the beginning of your prayer, the word came forth and I have come to make it known to you; for you are greatly beloved; therefore discern the matter and understand the vision.

24 Seventy times seven weeks are determined upon your people and upon your holy city, to finish the transgressions and to make an end of sins and for the forgiveness of the iniquity and to bring in everlasting righteousness and to fulfill the vision of the prophets and to give the most holy to Messiah.

25 Know therefore and understand that from the going forth of the word to restore and build Jerusalem to the coming of the Messiah the king shall be seven times seven weeks, and sixty-two times seven weeks; the people shall return and build Jerusalem, its streets, and its broad ways at the end of the appointed times.

26 After sixty-two times seven weeks, Messiah shall be slain, and the city shall be without a ruler; and the holy city shall be destroyed together with the coming king; and the end thereof shall be a mass exile, and at the end of the war, desolations are determined.

27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for seven weeks and half of seven weeks, then he shall cause the sacrifice and gift offerings to cease, and upon the horns of the altar the abomination of desolation; and the desolation shall continue until the end of the appointed time; the city shall remain desolate.

1 IN the first year of Darius, the son of Ahasuerus, a descendant of the Medes who became king over the realm of the Chaldeans,

2 In the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by the scriptures the number of the years, seeing that the word of the LORD came to pass which the prophet Jeremiah said, that seventy years would elapse before the desolations of Jerusalem would come to an end.

3 And I set5414 853 my face6440 unto413 the Lord136 God,430 to seek1245 by prayer8605 and supplications,8469 with fasting,6685 and sackcloth,8242 and ashes: 665

3 And I lifted up my face before the LORD God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting and with sackcloth and with ashes;

4 And I prayed before the LORD my God and made my confession and said, I beseech thee, O LORD, the great and revered God, who keepest the covenant and mercy to them that love him and to them that keep his commandments;

5 We have sinned,2398 and have committed iniquity,5753 and have done wickedly,7561 and have rebelled,4775 even by departing5493 from thy precepts4480 4687 and from thy judgments:4480 4941

5 We have sinned and have committed iniquity and have done wickedly and have rebelled and have gone astray from thy commandments and thy judgments;

6 Neither3808 have we hearkened8085 unto413 thy servants5650 the prophets,5030 which834 spoke1696 in thy name8034 to413 our kings,4428 our princes,8269 and our fathers,1 and to413 all3605 the people5971 of the land.776

6 Neither have we listened to thy servants the prophets, who spoke in thy name to our kings, our princes and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.

7 O LORD, victory belongs to thee, but shame is ours, as at this day, to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to all Israel that are near and that are far off, through all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their iniquity which they transgressed against thee.

8 O Lord,3068 to us belongeth confusion1322 of face,6440 to our kings,4428 to our princes,8269 and to our fathers,1 because834 we have sinned2398 against thee.

8 O LORD, to us belongs shame of faces to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee.

9 To the Lord136 our God430 belong mercies7356 and forgivenesses,5547 though3588 we have rebelled4775 against him;

9 To the LORD God belong mercies and forgiveness of sins, for we have rebelled against him;

10 Neither3808 have we obeyed8085 the voice6963 of the LORD3068 our God,430 to walk1980 in his laws,8451 which834 he set5414 before6440 us by3027 his servants5650 the prophets.5030

10 Neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk according to his laws which he set before us by his servants the prophets.

11 Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law and have gone astray and have not obeyed thy voice; therefore thou hast brought upon them the curses and the oaths that are written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned in his presence.

12 And he has confirmed his words which he spoke against us and against our judges that judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil; for under the whole heaven has not been done as has been done upon Jerusalem.

13 As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil has come upon us; yet we have not prayed before the LORD our God, that we might repent from our iniquities and understand thy truth.

14 Therefore the LORD has stirred up this evil and brought it upon us; for the LORD our God is righteous in all his works which he has done, and yet we have not obeyed his voice.

15 And now, O LORD our God, who didst bring thy people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and hast made thee a name, as at this day; we have sinned, we have done wickedly.

17 Now therefore, O God, hear the prayer of thy servant and his supplication, and cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary which is desolate, for thy name's sake, O LORD.

18 O my God, incline thine ear and hear; open thine eyes and behold our ruined and desolate places and the city which is called by thy name; for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousness, but for thy great mercies.

19 O LORD, hear; O LORD, forgive us; O LORD, hearken and do; delay not for thy own name's sake, O my God, because thy city and thy people are called by thy name.

20 And while I was yet praying and confessing my offenses and the offenses of my people Israel and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God,

21 Yea, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision before, came from heaven, flying swiftly, and drew near me at the time of the evening sacrifice.

22 And he informed995 me, and talked1696 with5973 me, and said,559 O Daniel,1840 I am now6258 come forth3318 to give thee skill7919 and understanding.998

22 And he came and talked to me and said to me, O Daniel, I am now come forth to instruct you, so that you might understand.

23 At the beginning8462 of thy supplications8469 the commandment1697 came forth,3318 and I589 am come935 to show5046 thee; for3588 thou859 art greatly beloved:2530 therefore understand995 the matter,1697 and consider995 the vision.4758

23 At the beginning of your prayer, the word came forth and I have come to make it known to you; for you are greatly beloved; therefore discern the matter and understand the vision.
