Chapter 20

1 AND after the tumult had ceased, Paul called to him the disciples and comforted them and kissed them and then departed and went to Mac-e-do'ni-a.

2 And when he had traveled through those countries and had comforted them with many words, he came to Greece.

3 There he remained three months. But the Jews laid a plot against him, just as he was about to sail for Syria, so he decided to return to Mac-e-do'ni-a.

4 And there accompanied him, as far as Asia Minor, Sop'a-ter of the city of Be-re'a and Ar-is-tar'chus and Se-cun'dus of Thes-sa-loni'ca and Ga'ius of the city of Der'be and Ti-mo'the-us of Ly'stra, and from Asia Minor Tych'i-cus and Troph'i-mus.

5 These men went before us, and waited for us at Tro'as.

6 But we departed from the Mac-e-do'ni-an city of Phi-lip'pi, after the days of unleavened bread, and sailed and arrived at Tro'as in five days, where we staved seven days;

7 And on the first day of the week, while the disciples were assembled to break bread, Paul preached to them, and because he was ready to leave the next day, he prolonged his speech until midnight.

8 Now there was a great glow of light from the torches in the upper chamber, where we were gathered together.

9 And a young man named Eu'ty-chus was sitting at the floor opening above and listening, and as Paul prolonged his speech, the youth fell into a deep sleep, and while asleep he fell down from the third loft, and was taken up as dead.

10 And Paul went down and bent over him and embraced him and said, Do not be excited for he still lives.

11 And when he was come up again, and had broken bread and eaten, he continued to speak till daybreak; then he departed to journey by land.

12 And they carried away the young man alive, and rejoiced over him exceedingly.

13 But we went on board the ship, and sailed to the port of As'sos, where we were to take in Paul: as he had commanded us when he left to travel by land.

14 When we had welcomed him at As'sos, we took him on board and came to Mit-yle'ne.

15 And we sailed thence the next day towards the island of Chi'os; and the following day we arrived at Sa'mos, and tarried at Tro-gyl'li-um; and the next day we came to Mi-le'tus.

16 For Paul had determined not to stop at Eph'e-sus, fearing he might be delayed there; because he was hastening, if it were possible for him, to celebrate the day of Pentecost at Jerusalem.

17 And from Mi-le'tus he sent and called the elders of the church of Eph'e-sus.

18 And when they had come to him, he said to them, You know from the very first day that I entered Asia Minor, how I have been with you always,

19 Serving God with great humility and with tears and amid the trials which were brought upon me by conspiracies of the Jews.

20 And yet I did not neglect to preach to you about those things which were good for your souls, and I taught in the streets and from house to house.

21 Thus testifying both to the Jews and to the Syr'i-ans, about repentance toward God and faith in our LORD Jesus Christ.

22 And now I am on my way to Jerusalem, bound in the spirit, not knowing what will happen to me there:

23 Save that in every city the Holy Spirit testifies to me, saying that bonds and afflictions await me.

24 But to me my life is nothing; I am not afraid. I desire only that I may finish my course with joy and finish the ministry, which I have received from our LORD Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

25 And now I know that you, among whom I have traveled and preached the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.

26 Therefore, I testify to you this very day that I am innocent of the blood of all.

27 For I have never shunned to declare to you, all the will of God.

28 Take heed therefore to yourselves and to all the flock, over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you overseers, to feed the church of Christ which he has purchased with his blood.

29 For I know this, that after I have departed, fierce wolves will attack you, which will not spare the flock.

30 Also from among yourselves, men shall arise, speaking perverse things to draw away disciples after them.

31 Therefore watch, and remember, that for three years, night and day, I did not cease to teach every one of you with tears.

32 And now I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all the saints.

33 I have never coveted silver, or gold, or apparel.

34 Indeed you yourselves know, that my own hands have provided for my needs and for those who have been with me.

35 I have showed you all things, how that one must work hard, and be mindful of the weak, and remember the words of our LORD Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

36 And when he had thus spoken, he knelt down and prayed with them all.

37 And they all wept bitterly, and they embraced him and kissed him;

38 But they were most distressed because of the words he spoke, that they would not see his face again. And they accompanied him to the ship.

11 Da ging er305 hinauf und1161 brach2806 das1909 Brot740 und25321089 und2532 redete3656 viel2425 mit ihnen, bis891 der Tag anbrach827; und5037 also3779 zog er aus1831.

13 Wir2249 aber1161 zogen voran auf1909 dem Schiff4143 und fuhren321 gen Assos789 und wollten3195 daselbst1564 Paulus3972 zu1519 uns nehmen353; denn1063 er2258 hatte1299 es also3779 befohlen, und er846 wollte3195 zu Fuße gehen4281.

14 Als5613 er846 nun zu1519 uns2254 schlug zu1519 Assos789, nahmen353 wir ihn zu uns und1161 kamen2064 gen Mitylene3412.

16 Denn1063 Paulus3972 hatte beschlossen2919, an Ephesus2181 vorüberzuschiffen3896, daß3704 er846 nicht3361 müßte1096 in1722 Asien773 Zeit2250 zubringen5551; denn1063 er2258 eilete, auf1519 den Pfingsttag zu Jerusalem2414 zu sein1096, so1487 es ihm846 möglich1415 wäre.

21 Und5037 habe bezeuget beiden, den Juden2453 und2532 Griechen1672, die Buße3341 zu1519 GOtt2316 und2532 den Glauben4102 an unsern2257 HErrn2962 JEsum2424 Christum5547.

22 Und2532 nun3568 siehe2400, ich1473, im Geist4151 gebunden1210, fahre hin4198 gen1519 Jerusalem2419, weiß1492 nicht3361, was mir3427 daselbst begegnen4876 wird,

24 Aber2532 ich achte4160 der3056 keines; ich halte mein3450 Leben5590 auch3761 nicht3762 selbst1683 teuer5093, auf daß5613 ich vollende5048 meinen3450 Lauf1408 mit3326 Freuden5479 und235 das3739 Amt1248, das ich empfangen2983 habe2192 von3844 dem HErrn2962 JEsu2424, zu bezeugen1263 das Evangelium2098 von der Gnade5485 Gottes2316.

25 Und2532 nun3568 siehe2400, ich1473 weiß, daß3754 ihr5210 mein3450 Angesicht4383 nicht mehr3765 sehen1492 werdet3700, alle3956 die, durch1722 welche ich gezogen bin1330 und geprediget habe2784 das3739 Reich932 Gottes2316.

26 Darum1352 zeuge ich1473 euch5213 an diesem heutigen Tage2250, daß3754 ich rein2513 bin von575 aller3956 Blut129;

27 denn1063 ich habe5288 euch5213 nichts verhalten, daß ich nicht3361 verkündiget hätte312 alle3956 den Rat1012 Gottes2316.

28 So habt5087 nun3767 acht4337 auf euch1438 selbst und2532 auf die3739 ganze3956 Herde4168, unter welche euch5209 der Heilige40 Geist4151 gesetzet hat4046 zu1722 Bischöfen1985, zu weiden4165 die3739 Gemeinde1577 Gottes2316, welche er durch1223 sein2398 eigen Blut129 erworben hat.

29 Denn1063 das1492 weiß ich1473, daß5124 nach3326 meinem3450 Abschied867 werden5339 unter1519 euch3754 kommen1525 greuliche926 Wölfe3074, die die Herde4168 nicht3361 verschonen werden.

31 Darum1352 seid wacker und2532 denket3421 daran, daß3754 ich nicht3756 abgelassen habe3973 drei Jahre5148, Tag2250 und Nacht3571 einen1520 jeglichen1538 mit3326 Tränen1144 zu vermahnen3560.

32 Und2532 nun3569, liebe Brüder80, ich befehle euch5209 GOtt2316 und2532 dem3588 Wort3056 seiner846 Gnade5485, der da mächtig ist3908, euch5213 zu1410 erbauen2026 und2532 zu1722 geben1325 das3956 Erbe2817 unter allen, die geheiliget werden37.

33 Ich habe euer keines3762 Silber694 noch2228 Gold5553 noch2228 Kleid2441 begehrt1937

34 Denn2532 ihr846 wisset1097 selber, daß3754 mir3450 diese3778 Hände5495 zu meiner Notdurft5532 und1161 derer, die mit3326 mir1700 gewesen sind5607, gedienet haben5256.

35 Ich habe5263 es euch5213 alles gezeiget, daß3754 man also3779 arbeiten2872 müsse1163 und5037 die Schwachen770 aufnehmen482 und2228 gedenken an3421 das3956 Wort3056 des HErrn2962 JEsu2424, das er gesagt2036 hat: Geben1325 ist2076 seliger3123 denn3754 Nehmen2983.

25 Und2532 nun3568 siehe2400, ich1473 weiß, daß3754 ihr5210 mein3450 Angesicht4383 nicht mehr3765 sehen1492 werdet3700, alle3956 die, durch1722 welche ich gezogen bin1330 und geprediget habe2784 das3739 Reich932 Gottes2316.

26 Therefore, I testify to you this very day that I am innocent of the blood of all.

26 Darum1352 zeuge ich1473 euch5213 an diesem heutigen Tage2250, daß3754 ich rein2513 bin von575 aller3956 Blut129;

27 For I have never shunned to declare to you, all the will of God.

27 denn1063 ich habe5288 euch5213 nichts verhalten, daß ich nicht3361 verkündiget hätte312 alle3956 den Rat1012 Gottes2316.

28 Take heed therefore to yourselves and to all the flock, over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you overseers, to feed the church of Christ which he has purchased with his blood.

28 So habt5087 nun3767 acht4337 auf euch1438 selbst und2532 auf die3739 ganze3956 Herde4168, unter welche euch5209 der Heilige40 Geist4151 gesetzet hat4046 zu1722 Bischöfen1985, zu weiden4165 die3739 Gemeinde1577 Gottes2316, welche er durch1223 sein2398 eigen Blut129 erworben hat.

29 For I know this, that after I have departed, fierce wolves will attack you, which will not spare the flock.

29 Denn1063 das1492 weiß ich1473, daß5124 nach3326 meinem3450 Abschied867 werden5339 unter1519 euch3754 kommen1525 greuliche926 Wölfe3074, die die Herde4168 nicht3361 verschonen werden.

30 Also from among yourselves, men shall arise, speaking perverse things to draw away disciples after them.

30 Auch2532 aus1537 euch5216 selbst werden aufstehen450 Männer435, die846 da verkehrte1294 Lehren reden2980, die Jünger3101 an3694 sich848 zu ziehen645.

31 Therefore watch, and remember, that for three years, night and day, I did not cease to teach every one of you with tears.

31 Darum1352 seid wacker und2532 denket3421 daran, daß3754 ich nicht3756 abgelassen habe3973 drei Jahre5148, Tag2250 und Nacht3571 einen1520 jeglichen1538 mit3326 Tränen1144 zu vermahnen3560.

32 And now I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all the saints.

32 Und2532 nun3569, liebe Brüder80, ich befehle euch5209 GOtt2316 und2532 dem3588 Wort3056 seiner846 Gnade5485, der da mächtig ist3908, euch5213 zu1410 erbauen2026 und2532 zu1722 geben1325 das3956 Erbe2817 unter allen, die geheiliget werden37.

33 I have never coveted silver, or gold, or apparel.

33 Ich habe euer keines3762 Silber694 noch2228 Gold5553 noch2228 Kleid2441 begehrt1937

34 Indeed you yourselves know, that my own hands have provided for my needs and for those who have been with me.

34 Denn2532 ihr846 wisset1097 selber, daß3754 mir3450 diese3778 Hände5495 zu meiner Notdurft5532 und1161 derer, die mit3326 mir1700 gewesen sind5607, gedienet haben5256.

35 I have showed you all things, how that one must work hard, and be mindful of the weak, and remember the words of our LORD Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

35 Ich habe5263 es euch5213 alles gezeiget, daß3754 man also3779 arbeiten2872 müsse1163 und5037 die Schwachen770 aufnehmen482 und2228 gedenken an3421 das3956 Wort3056 des HErrn2962 JEsu2424, das er gesagt2036 hat: Geben1325 ist2076 seliger3123 denn3754 Nehmen2983.

36 And when he had thus spoken, he knelt down and prayed with them all.

36 Und2532 als er846 solches5023 gesagt2036, kniete1119 er nieder5087 und betete4336 mit4862 ihnen allen3956.

37 And they all wept bitterly, and they embraced him and kissed him;

37 Es ward1096 aber1161 viel2425 Weinens unter ihnen846 allen3956, und2532 fielen1968 Paulus3972 um1909 den Hals5137 und küsseten ihn,

38 But they were most distressed because of the words he spoke, that they would not see his face again. And they accompanied him to the ship.

38 am allermeisten3122 betrübt3600 über1909 dem Wort3056, das3739 er846 sagte2046, sie1161 würden3195 sein Angesicht4383 nicht mehr3765 sehen2334. Und3754 geleiteten4311 ihn846 in1519 das Schiff4143.
