Chapter 2

1 THEN Jonah prayed before the LORD his God from the belly of the fish, saying,

2 I cried to the LORD in my distress and he answered me; out of the depths of Sheol cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

3 For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the sea; and the flood compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves have passed over me.

4 Then I said, I am cast afar out of thy sight; yet now I will see again thy holy temple.

5 The waters engulfed me, even to the soul; the depth closed me round about, my head lay at the bottom of the sea.

6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth shut up its bars against me for ever; yet thou hast brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.

7 When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the LORD; and my prayer came in to thee, into thy holy temple.

8 All those who revere false idols forsake thy mercy.

9 But I will sacrifice to thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay the things that I have vowed, as a reward for the LORD.

10 And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited out Jonah on the dry land.

1 Aber der HErr3068 verschaffte4487 einen großen1419 Fisch1709, Jona3124 zu verschlingen1104. Und Jona3124 war im Leibe4578 des Fisches drei7969 Tage3117 und drei7969 Nächte3915.

2 Und Jona3124 betete6419 zu dem HErrn3068, seinem GOtt430, im Leibe4578 des Fisches1710

3 und sprach559: Ich rief7121 zu8085 dem HErrn3068 in meiner Angst6869, und er antwortete6030 mir ich schrie7768 aus dem Bauch990 der Hölle7585, und du höretest meine Stimme6963.

4 Du warfst mich in die Tiefe4688 mitten3824 im Meer3220, daß die Fluten mich umgaben5437; alle deine Wogen4867 und5104 Wellen1530 gingen über5674 mich,

5 daß ich gedachte559, ich wäre von deinen Augen5869 verstoßen1644, ich würde deinen heiligen6944 Tempel1964 nicht3254 mehr sehen5027.

6 Wasser4325 umgaben5437 mich661 bis an mein Leben5315; die Tiefe8415 umringete mich; Schilf5488 bedeckte2280 mein Haupt7218.

7 Ich sank hinunter3381 zu der Berge2022 Gründen7095; die Erde776 hatte mich verriegelt1280 ewiglich5769. Aber du hast5927 mein Leben2416 aus dem Verderben7845 geführet, HErr3068, mein GOtt430!

8 Da meine See LE5315 bei mir verzagte5848, gedachte2142 ich an den HErrn3068; und mein Gebet8605 kam935 zu dir in deinen heiligen6944 Tempel1964.

9 Die da halten8104 über dem Nichtigen7723, verlassen5800 ihre Gnade2617.

10 Ich aber will mit6963 Dank8426 opfern2076; meine Gelübde will ich bezahlen7999 dem HErrn3068, daß er mir geholfen hat5087.
