Chapter 3

1 THERE was there a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews;

2 He came at night to Jesus and said to him, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher sent from God; for no man can do these miracles that you are doing, except God is with him.

3 Jesus answered and said to him, Truly, truly, I say to you, If a man is not born again,* he cannot see the kingdom of God.

4 Nicodemus said to him, How can an old man be born again? can he enter again a second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

5 Jesus answered and said to him, Truly, truly, I say to you, If a man is not born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 What is born of flesh is flesh; and what is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Do not be surprised because I have told you that you all must be born again.

8 The wind blows where it pleases, and you hear its sound; but you do not know whence it comes and whither it goes; such is every man who is born of the Spirit.

9 Nicodemus answered and said to him, How can these things be?

10 Jesus answered and said to, You are a teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand these things?

11 Truly, truly, I say to you, We speak only what we know, and we testify only to what we have seen; and yet you do not accept our testimony.

12 If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how then will you believe me, if I tell you about heavenly things?

13 No man has ascended to heaven, except he who came down from heaven, even the Son of man who is in heaven.

14 Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so the Son of man is ready to be lifted up;

15 So that every man who believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

16 For God so loved the world, that he even gave his only begotten Son, so that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

17 For God did not send his Son into the world, to condemn the world; but that the world should be saved by him.

18 He who believes in him will not be condemned; and he who does not believe has already been condemned, for not believing in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

19 And this is the judgment, that light has come into the world, and yet men have loved darkness more than light, because their works were evil.

20 For every one who does detested things hates the light, and he does not come to the light, because his works cannot be covered.

21 But he who does truthful things comes to the light, so that his works may be known, that they are done through God.

22 After these things, Jesus and his disciples came to the land of Judaea, and he remained there with them, and baptized.

23 John also was baptizing at the spring of Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there; and they came, and were baptized.

24 For John was not yet cast into prison.

25 Now it happened that a dispute arose between one of John's disciples and a Jew about the ceremony of purifying.

26 So they came to John and told him, Teacher, he who was with you at the Jordan crossing, concerning whom you testified, behold, he also is baptizing and a great many are coming to him.

27 John answered and said to them, No man can receive anything of his own will, except it is given to him from heaven.

28 You yourselves bear me witness that I said, I am not the Christ, but only a messenger to go before him.

29 He who has a bride is the bridegroom; and the best man of the bridegroom is he who stands up and listens to him, and rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice; this my joy therefore is fulfilled.

30 He must become greater and I lesser.

31 For he who has come from above is above all; and he who is of the earth is of the earth, and he speaks of earthly things; but he who has come from heaven is above all.

32 And he testifies of what he has seen and heard, and yet no man accepts his testimony.

33 He who accepts his testimony, has set his seal that God is true.

34 For he whom God has sent, speaks the words of God; for God did not give the Spirit by measure.

35 The Father loves the Son, and has placed everything under his hand.

36 He who believes in the Son has eternal life; and he who does not obey the Son, shall not see life, but the wrath of God shall remain on him.

Глава 3

1 Был среди фарисеев человек по имени Никодим, один из старейшин иудейских.

2 Однажды ночью он пришел к Иисусу и сказал Ему: «Равви, ведомо нам, что Ты — Учитель, посланный Богом, никто ведь не сможет совершить знамений, Тобой творимых, если не будет с ним Бог».

3 Иисус ответил: «Поверь Мне: кто не родится свыше, не увидит Царства Божия».

4 «Но может ли человек родиться заново, если стар он уже? — возразил Никодим. — Разве может вернуться он в чрево матери своей и родиться второй раз?»

5 «Уверяю тебя, — ответил Иисус, — кто не родится от воды и Духа, тот не сможет войти в Царство Божие.

6 От плоти рождается только плоть, и лишь Дух рождает дух.

7 Не удивляйся тому, что сказал я тебе: каждый из вас должен родиться свыше.

8 Ветер веет, где хочет. Но, даже если слышишь шум его, не знаешь, откуда он и где будет дуть потом. Так и с каждым, кто родится от Духа».

9 «Но как же может быть такое?» — спросил Никодим.

10 «Ты — учитель в Израиле, а такого не знаешь?! — отозвался Иисус. —

11 Верь Мне, мы говорим о том, что знаем, и о том свидетельствуем, что видели. А вы свидетельства нашего не принимаете.

12 Но если не верите Мне, когда о земном говорю, поверите ли словам Моим о небесном?

13 Ведь на Небе не бывал никто, кроме Сына Человеческого, с Неба и сошедшего.

14 Как поднят был некогда Моисеем медный змей в пустыне, так и Сын Человеческий должен быть на высоту поднят,

15 дабы каждый верующий обрел в Нем вечную жизнь.

16 Бог ведь так полюбил этот мир, что пожертвовал Сыном Своим единственным, чтобы всякий, кто верит в Него, не погиб, но обрел жизнь вечную.

17 Не для того Бог послал Сына в мир, чтобы Он судил его, но чтобы спасен был мир через Него.

18 Никто из верующих в Него судим не будет; а неверующий уже осужден, потому что не поверил в единственного Сына Божия.

19 Суд же состоит в том, что в мир Свет пришел, а люди тьму полюбили больше, чем Свет, ибо злы дела их.

20 Все, кто злое творит, ненавидят Свет и к Свету не идут, дабы не раскрылось содеянное ими.

21 Но кто истине следует во всем, что он делает, тот к Свету тянется, и тогда явным становится: всё, что делает он, в послушании Богу делает».

22 Вскоре после того пришел Иисус со Своими учениками в Иудею и пробыл там с ними некоторое время и крестил людей.

23 Иоанн же продолжал крестить в Эноне, неподалеку от Салима, потому что там было достаточно воды; иные шли и туда, чтобы принять крещение

24 (это было еще до того, как бросили Иоанна в темницу).

25 Некий иудей завел однажды с учениками Иоанна спор о ритуальном очищении.

26 Те пришли тогда к Иоанну и сказали: «Равви, Тот Человек, Который был с тобой по ту сторону Иордана и о Котором свидетельствовал ты, вот Он крестит теперь, и все идут к Нему».

27 «Не может человек взять на себя ничего, — ответил Иоанн, — если не дано ему то Небом.

28 Вы сами свидетели тому, что я говорил: „Я не Мессия, а только предвестник Его“.

29 Тот и жених, у кого невеста есть. А друг жениха, рядом стоящий и слушающий его, радуется и с ликованием внимает голосу жениха. Вот в чем и моя радость, и ныне полной стала она.

30 Ему — возрастать, мне — умаляться.

31 Свыше Приходящий выше всех, конечно; а кто от земли — он и есть земной, он и говорит, как земной. Приходящий с Небес — [выше всех];

32 Он о том свидетельствует, что видел и слышал, но свидетельству Его не внемлют.

33 Принявший же свидетельство это подтверждает истинность слов Божьих.

34 Кто Богом послан, Тот Божии и говорит слова: Бог без меры дает Ему Дух.

35 Любит Своего Сына Отец и всё вверил в руки Его.

36 Кто верит в Сына, тот вечную жизнь наследует, а кто Сыну отказывается верить, никогда той жизни не увидит — гнев Божий навлекает он на себя».

2 He came at night to Jesus and said to him, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher sent from God; for no man can do these miracles that you are doing, except God is with him.	2 Однажды ночью он пришел к Иисусу и сказал Ему: «Равви, ведомо нам, что Ты — Учитель, посланный Богом, никто ведь не сможет совершить знамений, Тобой творимых, если не будет с ним Бог».
3 Jesus answered and said to him, Truly, truly, I say to you, If a man is not born again,* he cannot see the kingdom of God.	3 Иисус ответил: «Поверь Мне: кто не родится свыше, не увидит Царства Божия».

10 Jesus answered and said to, You are a teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand these things?	10 «Ты — учитель в Израиле, а такого не знаешь?! — отозвался Иисус. —
11 Truly, truly, I say to you, We speak only what we know, and we testify only to what we have seen; and yet you do not accept our testimony.	11 Верь Мне, мы говорим о том, что знаем, и о том свидетельствуем, что видели. А вы свидетельства нашего не принимаете.
12 If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how then will you believe me, if I tell you about heavenly things?	12 Но если не верите Мне, когда о земном говорю, поверите ли словам Моим о небесном?
13 No man has ascended to heaven, except he who came down from heaven, even the Son of man who is in heaven.	13 Ведь на Небе не бывал никто, кроме Сына Человеческого, с Неба и сошедшего.
14 Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so the Son of man is ready to be lifted up;	14 Как поднят был некогда Моисеем медный змей в пустыне, так и Сын Человеческий должен быть на высоту поднят,
15 So that every man who believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.	15 дабы каждый верующий обрел в Нем вечную жизнь.
16 For God so loved the world, that he even gave his only begotten Son, so that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.	16 Бог ведь так полюбил этот мир, что пожертвовал Сыном Своим единственным, чтобы всякий, кто верит в Него, не погиб, но обрел жизнь вечную.
17 For God did not send his Son into the world, to condemn the world; but that the world should be saved by him.	17 Не для того Бог послал Сына в мир, чтобы Он судил его, но чтобы спасен был мир через Него.
18 He who believes in him will not be condemned; and he who does not believe has already been condemned, for not believing in the name of the only begotten Son of God.	18 Никто из верующих в Него судим не будет; а неверующий уже осужден, потому что не поверил в единственного Сына Божия.
19 And this is the judgment, that light has come into the world, and yet men have loved darkness more than light, because their works were evil.	19 Суд же состоит в том, что в мир Свет пришел, а люди тьму полюбили больше, чем Свет, ибо злы дела их.
20 For every one who does detested things hates the light, and he does not come to the light, because his works cannot be covered.	20 Все, кто злое творит, ненавидят Свет и к Свету не идут, дабы не раскрылось содеянное ими.
21 But he who does truthful things comes to the light, so that his works may be known, that they are done through God.	21 Но кто истине следует во всем, что он делает, тот к Свету тянется, и тогда явным становится: всё, что делает он, в послушании Богу делает».
22 After these things, Jesus and his disciples came to the land of Judaea, and he remained there with them, and baptized.	22 Вскоре после того пришел Иисус со Своими учениками в Иудею и пробыл там с ними некоторое время и крестил людей.
23 John also was baptizing at the spring of Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there; and they came, and were baptized.	23 Иоанн же продолжал крестить в Эноне, неподалеку от Салима, потому что там было достаточно воды; иные шли и туда, чтобы принять крещение
24 For John was not yet cast into prison.	24 (это было еще до того, как бросили Иоанна в темницу).
25 Now it happened that a dispute arose between one of John's disciples and a Jew about the ceremony of purifying.	25 Некий иудей завел однажды с учениками Иоанна спор о ритуальном очищении.
26 So they came to John and told him, Teacher, he who was with you at the Jordan crossing, concerning whom you testified, behold, he also is baptizing and a great many are coming to him.	26 Те пришли тогда к Иоанну и сказали: «Равви, Тот Человек, Который был с тобой по ту сторону Иордана и о Котором свидетельствовал ты, вот Он крестит теперь, и все идут к Нему».
27 John answered and said to them, No man can receive anything of his own will, except it is given to him from heaven.	27 «Не может человек взять на себя ничего, — ответил Иоанн, — если не дано ему то Небом.
28 You yourselves bear me witness that I said, I am not the Christ, but only a messenger to go before him.	28 Вы сами свидетели тому, что я говорил: „Я не Мессия, а только предвестник Его“.

31 For he who has come from above is above all; and he who is of the earth is of the earth, and he speaks of earthly things; but he who has come from heaven is above all.	31 Свыше Приходящий выше всех, конечно; а кто от земли — он и есть земной, он и говорит, как земной. Приходящий с Небес — [выше всех];
32 And he testifies of what he has seen and heard, and yet no man accepts his testimony.	32 Он о том свидетельствует, что видел и слышал, но свидетельству Его не внемлют.
33 He who accepts his testimony, has set his seal that God is true.	33 Принявший же свидетельство это подтверждает истинность слов Божьих.
34 For he whom God has sent, speaks the words of God; for God did not give the Spirit by measure.	34 Кто Богом послан, Тот Божии и говорит слова: Бог без меры дает Ему Дух.
35 The Father loves the Son, and has placed everything under his hand.	35 Любит Своего Сына Отец и всё вверил в руки Его.
