|
1 約旦河這邊［this side］，住山地、谷地［valleys］，並對著黎巴嫩山沿大海一帶的諸王，就是赫人、亞摩利人、迦南人、比利洗人、希未人、耶布斯人的諸王，聽見這事；
|
1 And it came to pass,1961 when all3605 the kings4428 which834 were on this side5676 Jordan,3383 in the hills,2022 and in the valleys,8219 and in all3605 the coasts2348 of the great1419 sea3220 over413 against4136 Lebanon,3844 the Hittite,2850 and the Amorite,567 the Canaanite,3669 the Perizzite,6522 the Hivite,2340 and the Jebusite,2983 heard8085 thereof;

2 他們［they］就都聚集，同心合意的要與約書亞和以色列［Israel］爭戰。
|
2 That they gathered themselves6908 together,3162 to fight3898 with5973 Joshua3091 and with5973 Israel,3478 with one259 accord.6310
|
|
3 基遍的居民聽見約書亞向耶利哥和艾城所行的事，
|
3 And when the inhabitants3427 of Gibeon1391 heard8085 853 what834 Joshua3091 had done6213 unto Jericho3405 and to Ai,5857
|
|
4 就設詭計，假充來使［ambassadors］，拿舊口袋和破裂縫補的舊皮酒袋馱在驢上，
|
4 They1992 did work6213 wilily,6195 and went1980 and made as if they had been ambassadors,6737 and took3947 old1087 sacks8242 upon their asses,2543 and wine3196 bottles,4997 old,1087 and rent,1234 and bound up;6887
|
|
5 將補過的舊鞋穿在腳上，把舊衣服穿在身上；他們所帶的餅都是乾的，長了霉了。
|
5 And old1087 shoes5275 and clouted2921 upon their feet,7272 and old1087 garments8008 upon5921 them; and all3605 the bread3899 of their provision6718 was dry3001 and moldy.5350
|
|
6 他們到吉甲營中見約書亞，對他和以色列人說：「我們是從遠方來的，現在求你與我們立約。」
|
6 And they went1980 to413 Joshua3091 unto413 the camp4264 at Gilgal,1537 and said559 unto413 him, and to413 the men376 of Israel,3478 We be come935 from a far country:4480 776 7350 now6258 therefore make3772 ye a league1285 with us.

|
7 以色列人對這些希未人說：「只怕你們是住在我們中間的；若是這樣，怎能和你們立約呢？」
|
7 And the men376 of Israel3478 said559 unto413 the Hivites,2340 Peradventure194 ye859 dwell3427 among7130 us; and how349 shall we make3772 a league1285 with you?
|
|
8 他們對約書亞說：「我們是你的僕人。」約書亞問他們說：「你們是甚麼人？是從哪裏來的？」
|
8 And they said559 unto413 Joshua,3091 We587 are thy servants.5650 And Joshua3091 said559 unto413 them, Who4310 are ye?859 and from whence4480 370 come935 ye?
|
|
9 他們對他［unto him］說：「你［thy］僕人從極遠之地而來；是因我們［we］聽見耶和華─你神的名聲和他在埃及所行的一切事，
|
9 And they said559 unto413 him, From a very far country4480 776 3966 7350 thy servants5650 are come935 because of the name8034 of the LORD3068 thy God:430 for3588 we have heard8085 the fame8089 of him, and all3605 that834 he did6213 in Egypt,4714
|
|
10 並他向約旦河外［beyond］的兩個亞摩利王，就是希實本王西宏和在亞斯她錄的巴珊王噩一切所行的事。
|
10 And all3605 that834 he did6213 to the two8147 kings4428 of the Amorites,567 that834 were beyond5676 Jordan,3383 to Sihon5511 king4428 of Heshbon,2809 and to Og5747 king4428 of Bashan,1316 which834 was at Ashtaroth.6252
|
|
11 我們的長老和我們那地的一切居民對我們說：『你們手裏要帶著路上用的食物去迎接以色列人，對他們說：我們是你們的僕人；現在求你們與我們立約。』
|
11 Wherefore our elders2205 and all3605 the inhabitants3427 of our country776 spoke559 to413 us, saying,559 Take3947 victuals6720 with you3027 for the journey,1870 and go1980 to meet7125 them, and say559 unto413 them, We587 are your servants:5650 therefore now6258 make3772 ye a league1285 with us.

12 我們出來要往你們這裏來的日子，從我們［our］家裏帶出來的這餅還是熱的；看哪，現在卻［but］都乾了，長了霉了。
|
12 This2088 our bread3899 we took hot2525 for our provision6679 out of our houses4480 1004 on the day3117 we came forth3318 to go1980 unto413 you; but now,6258 behold,2009 it is dry,3001 and it is1961 moldy: 5350
|
|
13 這皮酒袋，我們盛酒的時候還是新的；看哪，現在已經破裂。我們這衣服和鞋，因為道路甚遠，也都穿舊了。」
|
13 And these428 bottles4997 of wine,3196 which834 we filled,4390 were new;2319 and, behold,2009 they be rent:1234 and these428 our garments8008 and our shoes5275 are become old1086 by reason of the very3966 long4480 7230 journey.1870
|
|
14 以色列人受了他們些食物，並沒有求問耶和華。
|
14 And the men376 took3947 of their victuals,4480 6718 and asked7592 not3808 counsel at the mouth6310 of the LORD.3068
|
|
15 於是約書亞與他們講和，與他們立約，容他們活著；會眾的首領也向他們起誓。
|
15 And Joshua3091 made6213 peace7965 with them, and made6213 a league1285 with them, to let them live:2421 and the princes5387 of the congregation5712 swore7650 unto them.
|
|
16 以色列人與他們立約之後，過了三天才聽見他們是近鄰，住在以色列人中間的。
|
16 And it came to pass1961 at the end4480 7097 of three7969 days3117 after310 834 they had made3772 a league1285 with them, that they heard8085 that3588 they1992 were their413 neighbors,7138 and that they1992 dwelt3427 among7130 them.
|
|
17 以色列人起行，第三天到了他們的城邑，就是基遍、基非拉、比錄、基列．耶琳。
|
17 And the children1121 of Israel3478 journeyed,5265 and came935 unto413 their cities5892 on the third7992 day.3117 Now their cities5892 were Gibeon,1391 and Chephirah,3716 and Beeroth,881 and Kirjath-jearim.7157
|
|
18 因為會眾的首領已經指著耶和華─以色列的神向他們起誓，所以以色列人不擊殺他們；全會眾就向首領發怨言。
|
18 And the children1121 of Israel3478 smote5221 them not,3808 because3588 the princes5387 of the congregation5712 had sworn7650 unto them by the LORD3068 God430 of Israel.3478 And all3605 the congregation5712 murmured3885 against5921 the princes.5387
|
|
19 眾首領對全會眾說：「我們已經指著耶和華─以色列的神向他們起誓；因此［therefore］，現在我們不能觸害［touch］他們。
|
19 But all3605 the princes5387 said559 unto413 all3605 the congregation,5712 We587 have sworn7650 unto them by the LORD3068 God430 of Israel:3478 now6258 therefore we may3201 not3808 touch5060 them.
|
|
20 我們要如此待他們，容他們活著，免得有忿怒因我們所起的誓臨到我們身上。」
|
20 This2063 we will do6213 to them; we will even let them live,2421 853 lest3808 wrath7110 be1961 upon5921 us, because of5921 the oath7621 which834 we swore7650 unto them.
|
|
21 首領又對會眾說：「要容他們活著。」於是他們為全會眾作了劈柴挑水的人，正如首領對他們所應許［promised］的話。
|
21 And the princes5387 said559 unto413 them, Let them live;2421 but let them be1961 hewers2404 of wood6086 and drawers7579 of water4325 unto all3605 the congregation;5712 as834 the princes5387 had promised1696 them.
|
|
22 約書亞召了他們來，對他們說：「為甚麼欺哄我們說『我們離你們甚遠』呢？其實你們是住在我們中間。
|
22 And Joshua3091 called7121 for them, and he spoke1696 unto413 them, saying,559 Wherefore4100 have ye beguiled7411 us, saying,559 We587 are very3966 far7350 from4480 you; when ye859 dwell3427 among7130 us?
|
|
23 現在你們是被咒詛的。你們中間的人必斷不了作奴僕，為我神的殿作劈柴挑水的人。」
|
23 Now6258 therefore ye859 are cursed,779 and there shall none3808 of4480 you be freed3772 from being bondmen,5650 and hewers2404 of wood6086 and drawers7579 of water4325 for the house1004 of my God.430
|
|
24 他們回答約書亞說：「因為有人實在告訴你的僕人，耶和華─你的神曾吩咐他的僕人摩西，把這全地賜給你們，並在你們面前滅絕這地的一切居民，所以我們為你們的緣故甚怕喪命，就行了這事。
|
24 And they answered6030 853 Joshua,3091 and said,559 Because3588 it was certainly told5046 5046 thy servants,5650 853 how that834 the LORD3068 thy God430 commanded6680 his servant5650 853 Moses4872 to give5414 you all3605 the land,776 and to destroy8045 853 all3605 the inhabitants3427 of the land776 from before4480 6440 you, therefore we were sore3966 afraid3372 of our lives5315 because of4480 6440 you, and have done6213 853 this2088 thing.1697

25 看哪［behold］。現在我們在你手中，你以怎樣待我們為善為正，就怎樣作吧。」
|
25 And now,6258 behold,2009 we are in thine hand:3027 as it seemeth good2896 and right3477 unto thee5869 to do6213 unto us, do.6213
|
|
26 於是約書亞這樣待他們，救他們脫離以色列人的手，以色列人就沒有殺他們。
|
26 And so3651 did6213 he unto them, and delivered5337 them out of the hand4480 3027 of the children1121 of Israel,3478 that they slew2026 them not.3808
|
|
27 當日約書亞使他們在耶和華所要選擇的地方，為會眾和耶和華的壇作劈柴挑水的人，直到今日。
|
27 And Joshua3091 made5414 them that1931 day3117 hewers2404 of wood6086 and drawers7579 of water4325 for the congregation,5712 and for the altar4196 of the LORD,3068 even unto5704 this2088 day,3117 in413 the place4725 which834 he should choose.977
