2 Решил я: буду следить за тем, куда свои стопы направить, и за тем, чтоб не грешить мне языком своим. Уста свои обуздывать буду, пока вижу хотя бы одного нечестивца рядом с собой.
3 Так оставался я нем и безгласен, молчал даже о добром. Но скорбь моя всё росла и росла,
4 горело сердце мое в груди. Когда погружался я в мысли свои, огонь еще сильнее разгорался. И тогда дал я волю языку своему:
5 «Господи, помоги мне уразуметь участь мою и смысл отсчитанных мне дней! Скоротечность жизни моей помоги понять и принять!
6 Вот Ты дал мне дней жизни всего в одну или две ширины ладони, и век мой — ничто пред Тобою. Жизнь человека, как бы твердо он ни стоял, — лишь дуновение ветра.
7 Ходит человек, нося в себе лишь некое подобие жизни, совершенно напрасно шум поднимает; что-то копит, не зная для кого.
8 И ныне, Господи, чего же я жду? На Тебя вся надежда моя!
9 Избавь меня от власти греха надо мною, не дай мне оказаться посмешищем глупцов.
10 Я стал нем, не открываю уст своих, понимая, что это Ты страдания мне послал.
11 Возьми от меня беды эти, от ударов руки Твоей гибну я.
12 Когда Ты осуждаешь преступления человека и, наказывая за грех, исправляешь его, то всё, что дорого ему, разрушается Тобой, как от моли одежда. Всякий человек — лишь ветра дуновение!
13 Услышь, ГОСПОДИ, молитву мою и внемли воплю моему, не отвернись в молчании от слез моих, ибо странник я у Тебя, пришелец я здесь, как все предки мои.
14 Отведи от меня взор Свой укоряющий, чтобы мог я возрадоваться, прежде чем уйду и не станет меня».
