2 Человек словно раб, мечтающий о прохладе, словно батрак, ждущий вознаграждения.
3 Месяц за месяцем бесполезно минули, ночи мои проходят в страданьях.
4 Когда ложусь, я думаю: „Когда я встану?” Но длится ночь, и ворочаюсь я, пока не встанет солнце.
5 Черви и короста покрывают тело моё, кожа потрескалась и нарывает.
6 Дни мои торопливей, чем челноки ткача. И завершается жизнь моя без надежды.
7 Господи, вспомни, что жизнь моя — лишь вздох, и ничего хорошего я не увижу вновь.
8 Те, кто был со мной, больше меня не увидят. Ты будешь меня искать, но не будет меня.
9 Облака редеют и уходят. Так и с человеком: он похоронен в могиле и не вернётся вновь.
10 Он никогда не вернётся в свой старый оставленный дом, чужим он будет в доме этом.
11 И поэтому не буду я молчать, я всё скажу! Мой дух страдает, я жаловаться буду, так как горестно душе моей.
12 Разве я Твой враг, что Ты следишь за мною постоянно?
13 Успокоение должна мне дать постель, освобождение и отдых.
14 Но, Господи, всегда, когда ложусь, видениями меня кошмарными пугаешь.
15 Поэтому уж лучше быть задушенным, чем жить, как я живу.
16 Я ненавижу жизнь мою! Сдаюсь! Жить вечно не хочу, оставь меня! Жизнь ничего не значит!
17 И почему Тебе, Господь, так важен человек? Честь воздаёшь ему за что? Зачем его Ты замечаешь?
18 Почему Ты его навещаешь каждое утро и испытываешь каждый миг?
19 Господь, Ты глаз с меня не сводишь, ни на секунду меня не оставляешь.
20 Ты следишь за тем, что делают люди. Что ж, если согрешил я, что могу я сделать? Ну почему вдруг стал я Твоею целью? Иль стал я бременем невыносимым для Тебя?
21 И почему ты не простишь меня за то, что сделал я неверно? Почему Ты не отпустишь все грехи мои?
