John

Chapter 11

1 NOW there was a man who was sick, Lazarus of the town of Bethany, the brother of Mary and Martha.

2 This is the Mary who anointed the feet of Jesus with perfume and wiped them with her hair. Lazarus who was sick, was her brother.

3 His two sisters therefore sent to Jesus, saying, Our Lord, behold, the one whom you love is sick.

4 Jesus said, This is not a sickness of death, but for the sake of the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified on his account.

5 Now Jesus loved Martha and Mary and Lazarus.

6 When he heard he was sick, he remained two days in the place where he was.

7 After that he said to his disciples, Come, let us go again to Judaea.

8 His disciples said to him, Teacher, not long ago the Jews wanted to stone you, and yet are you going there again?

9 Jesus said to them, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If a man walks by day time, he will not stumble, because he sees the light of this world.

10 But if a man travels at night time, he will stumble, because there is no light in it.

11 Jesus said these things; and after that he said to them, Our friend Lazarus is asleep; but I am going to awake him.

12 His disciples said to him, Our Lord, if he is sleeping, he will get well.

13 But Jesus spoke of his death; and they thought that what he said was sleeping in bed.

14 Then Jesus said to them, plainly, Lazarus is dead.

15 And I am glad I was not there, for your sakes, so that you may believe; but let us walk there.

16 Then Thomas, who is called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, Let us also go, and die with him.

17 So Jesus came to Bethany, and he found that he had been four days in the tomb.

18 Now Bethany was towards Jerusalem, a distance of about two miles.

19 And many Jews kept coming to Martha and Mary, to comfort their hearts concerning their brother.

20 When Martha heard that Jesus had come, she went out to meet him; but Mary sat in the house.

21 Then Martha said to Jesus, My Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.

22 But even now I know that whatever you ask of God, he will give you.

23 Jesus said to her, Your brother will rise up.

24 Martha said to him, I know he will rise up in the resurrection at the last day.

25 Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, even though he die, he shall live.

26 And whoever is alive and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?

27 She said to him, Yes, my Lord; I do believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come to the world.

28 And when she had said these things, she went away and called her sister Mary secretly, and said to her, Our teacher has come, and he is calling you.

29 When Mary heard it, she rose up quickly and came to him.

30 Jesus had not yet come into the town, but he was still at the same place where Martha met him.

31 The Jews also who were with her in the house, comforting her, when they saw Mary rise up quickly and go out, followed her, for they thought she was going to the tomb to weep.

32 When Mary came where Jesus was, and saw him, she threw herself at his feet, and said to him, My Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.

33 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews weeping, who had come with her, he was moved in his spirit, and was greatly disturbed.

34 And he said, Where have you laid him? They said to him, Our Lord, come and see.

35 And Jesus was in tears.

36 The Jews then said, Look, how much he loved him!

37 Some of them said, Could not this man, who opened the eyes of that blind man, have also kept this man from dying?

38 As Jesus was disturbed in himself because of them, he came to the tomb. That tomb was a cave, and a stone was placed at the entrance.

39 Jesus said, Take away this stone. Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, My Lord, he is already disfigured, for he is dead four days.

40 Jesus said to her, Did not I say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?

41 So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted his eyes upwards, and said, O Father, I thank you for you have heard me,

42 And I know that you always hear me; but I say these things just because of this people who stand around, so that they may believe that you have sent me.

43 And when he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come outside.

44 And the dead man came out, his hands and feet bound with burial clothes; and his face bound with a burial napkin. Jesus said to them, Loose him and let him go.

45 Many of the Jews who had come to Mary, when they saw what Jesus had done, believed in him.

46 And some of them went to the Pharisees, and told them everything Jesus had done.

47 So the high priests and the Pharisees gathered together and said, What shall we do? for this man does many miracles?

48 If we allow him to continue like this, all men will believe in him; and the Romans will come and take over both our country and our people.

49 But one of them, called Caiaphas, who was the high priest for that year, said to them, You know nothing;

50 Nor do you reason that it is much better for us that one man should die instead of the people, and not all the people perish.

51 He did not say this of himself; but because he was the high priest for that year, he prophesied that Jesus had to die for the sake of the people;

52 And not only for the sake of the people, but also to gather together the children of God who are scattered abroad.

53 And from that very day, they decided to kill him.

54 Jesus therefore did not walk openly among the Jews, but went away thence to a place which is close to the wilderness, in the province of Ephraim; and he remained there with his disciples.

55 Now the Jewish passover was at hand; and many went up from the towns to Jerusalem, before the feast, to purify themselves.

56 And they were looking for Jesus, and at the temple they kept saying to one another, What do you think, will he not come to the feast?

57 But the high priests and the Pharisees had already commanded, that if any man should know where he is, to let them know, so that they might seize him.

Kapitel 11

1 Es846 lag2258 aber1161 einer5100 krank770 mit Namen Lazarus2976 von575 Bethanien, in dem Flecken2968 Marias3137 und2532 ihrer Schwester79 Martha3136.

2 (Maria3137 aber1161 war, die3739 den3588 HErrn2962 gesalbet hatte mit Salben218 und2532 seine846 Füße4228 getrocknet1591 mit ihrem Haar2359; derselbigen Bruder80 Lazarus2976 war krank770.)

3 Da sandten seine846 Schwestern79 zu649 ihm und ließen ihm sagen3004: HErr2962, siehe2396, den du3767 liebhast5368, der3739 liegt krank770.

4 Da1161 JEsus2424 das2443 hörete, sprach2036 er3778: Die191 Krankheit769 ist2076 nicht3756 zum Tode2288, sondern235 zur5228 Ehre1391 Gottes2316, daß4314 der846 Sohn Gottes2316 dadurch geehret werde1392.

5 JEsus2424 aber1161 hatte25 Martha3136 lieb und2532 ihre846 Schwester79 und2532 Lazarus2976.

6 Als er nun3767 hörete, daß5613 er krank770 war2258, blieb3306 er zwei1417 Tage2250 an1722 dem3739 Ort5117, da er war.

7 Danach1899 spricht3004 er zu1519 seinen Jüngern3101: Lasset uns wieder3825 nach3326 Judäa2449 ziehen71!

8 Seine846 Jünger3101 sprachen3004 zu ihm: Meister4461, jenesmal wollten2212 die Juden2453 dich4571 steinigen3034, und2532 du willst5217 wieder3825 dahin1563 ziehen?

9 JEsus2424 antwortete611: Sind1526 nicht3780 des Tages2250 zwölf1427 Stunden5610? Wer1437 des Tages2250 wandelt4043, der1722 stößet sich5100 nicht3756, denn3754 er siehet das Licht5457 dieser5127 Welt2889.

10 Wer1437 aber1161 des846 Nachts3571 wandelt4043, der1722 stößet sich4350, denn3754 es ist2076 kein5100 Licht5457 in1722 ihm.

11 Solches5023 sagte3004 er846, und2532 danach spricht2036 er846 zu3326 ihnen846: Lazarus2976, unser2257 Freund5384, schläft2837; aber235 ich5124 gehe hin4198, daß2443 ich ihn aufwecke.

12 Da sprachen2036 seine846 Jünger3101: HErr2962, schläft2837 er, so3767 wird‘s besser mit ihm4982.

13 JEsus2424 aber1161 sagte2046 von4012 seinem Tode2288; sie1565 meineten aber1161, er846 redete3004 vom4012 leiblichen2838 Schlaf5258.

14 Da3767 sagte2036 es ihnen846 JEsus2424 frei3954 heraus: Lazarus2976 ist gestorben599.

15 Und2532 ich2252 bin froh5463 um1223 euretwillen, daß3754 ich nicht3756 dagewesen1563 bin, auf daß2443 ihr5209 glaubet4100. Aber235 lasset uns zu4314 ihm846 ziehen71!

16 Da3767 sprach2036 Thomas2381, der da2532 genannt3004 ist71 Zwilling1324, zu den3588 Jüngern4827: Lasset uns mit3326 ziehen71, daß2443 wir2249 mit ihm846 sterben599!

17 Da3767 kam2064 JEsus2424 und fand2147 ihn, daß er846 schon2235 vier5064 Tage2250 im1722 Grabe3419 gelegen war2192.

18 (Bethanien963 aber1161 war2258 nahe bei1451 Jerusalem2414, bei5613 fünfzehn1178 Feldweges.)

19 Und2532 viel4183 Juden2453 waren, zu1537 Martha3136 und2532 Maria kommen2064, sie846 zu4314 trösten3888 über4012 ihren846 Bruder80.

20 Als Martha3136 nun3767 hörete, daß5613 JEsus2424 kommt2064, gehet sie846 ihm entgegen; Maria3137 aber3754 blieb daheim1722 sitzen2516.

21 Da sprach2036 Martha3136 zu4314 JEsu2424: HErr2962, wärest1487 du3767 hier5602 gewesen2258, mein3450 Bruder wäre302 nicht3756 gestorben2348;

22 aber235 ich302 weiß auch2532 noch3568, daß, was du bittest154 von GOtt2316, das1492 wird dir4671 GOtt2316 geben1325.

23 JEsus2424 spricht3004 zu ihr846: Dein4675 Bruder80 soll auferstehen450.

24 Martha3136 spricht3004 zu1722 ihm: Ich weiß1492 wohl, daß3754 er846 auferstehen450 wird in1722 der Auferstehung386 am Jüngsten2078 Tage2250.

25 JEsus2424 spricht2036 zu1519 ihr846: Ich1473 bin1510 die Auferstehung386 und2532 das Leben2222. Wer an mich1691 glaubet4100, der wird leben2198, ob2579 er gleich stürbe599;

26 und2532 wer4100 da5124 lebet2198 und2532 glaubet4100 an1519 mich1691, der wird599 nimmermehr sterben599. Glaubest du das3956?

27 Sie846 spricht3004 zu ihm: HErr2962, ja3483, ich1473 glaube4100, daß3754 du4771 bist1488 Christus5547, der Sohn Gottes2316, der in1519 die3588 Welt2889 kommen2064 ist.

28 Und2532 da3918 sie das5023 gesagt2036 hatte2036, ging565 sie hin und2532 rief5455 ihre Schwester79 Maria3137 heimlich2977 und2532 sprach2036: Der Meister1320 ist da und rufet dich4571.

29 Dieselbige, als5613 sie846 das1565 hörete, stund sie eilend5035 auf1453 und2532 kam191 zu4314 ihm.

30 Denn JEsus2424 war2064 noch nicht3768 in1519 den Flecken2968 kommen2064, sondern235 war2258 noch an1722 dem Ort5117, da1161 ihm846 Martha3136 war entgegenkommen.

31 Die3588 Juden2453, die bei1519 ihr846 im1722 Hause3614 waren5607 und2532 trösteten3888 sie846, da3767 sie sahen1492 Maria3137, daß3754 sie eilend5030 aufstund und hinausging, folgten190 sie ihr846 nach3326 und sprachen: Sie gehet1831 hin5217 zum Grabe3419, daß2443 sie daselbst1563 weine2799.

32 Als nun3767 Maria3137 kam2064, da5613 JEsus2424 war2258, und sah1492 ihn, fiel4098 sie846 zu1519 seinen846 Füßen4228 und sprach3004 zu ihm846: HErr2962, wärest1487 du302 hier5602 gewesen2258, mein3450 Bruder80 wäre nicht3756 gestorben599.

33 Als5613 JEsus2424 sie sah1492 weinen2799 und3767 die Juden2453 auch2532 weinen2799, die mit ihr846 kamen4905, ergrimmete er846 im Geist4151 und2532 betrübte sich1438 selbst5015

34 und2532 sprach2036: Wo4226 habt5087 ihr846 ihn hingelegt? Sie846 sprachen3004 zu ihm: HErr2962, komm2064 und2532 sieh es1492!

35 Und JEsu2424 gingen die Augen über1145.

36 Da sprachen3004 die Juden2453: Siehe2396, wie4459 hat5368 er846 ihn so3767 liebgehabt!

37 Etliche5100 aber1161 unter1537 ihnen846 sprachen2036: Konnte1410, der3778 dem3588 Blinden5185 die Augen3788 aufgetan455 hat4160, nicht3756 verschaffen, daß2443 auch2532 dieser3778 nicht3361 stürbe599?

38 JEsus2424 aber3767 ergrimmete abermal in1722 sich1909 selbst1438 und2532 kam2064 zum1519 Grabe. Es846 war2258 aber eine Kluft4693 und ein Stein3037 darauf gelegt.

39 JEsus2424 sprach3004: Hebet den Stein3037 ab! Spricht3004 zu ihm Martha3136, die Schwester79 des Verstorbenen2348: HErr2962, er846 stinkt3605 schon2235; denn1063 er2076 ist142 vier Tage5066 gelegen.

40 JEsus2424 spricht3004 zu ihr846: Hab‘ ich1437 dir4671 nicht3756 gesagt2036, so3754 du glauben4100 würdest, du solltest die Herrlichkeit1391 Gottes2316 sehen3700?

41 Da3757 huben sie den Stein3037 ab, da der Verstorbene2348 lag2258. JEsus2424 aber1161 hub seine Augen3788 empor507 und2532 sprach2036: Vater3962, ich danke2168 dir4671, daß3754 du3767 mich3450 erhöret hast191!

42 Doch ich1473 weiß, daß3754 du191 mich3450 allezeit3842 hörest, sondern235 um1223 des3588 Volks3793 willen, das1492 umherstehet, sage2036 ich‘s, daß2443 sie1161 glauben4100, du4771 habest mich3165 gesandt649.

43 Da2532 er2905 das5023 gesagt hatte2036, rief er mit lauter3173 Stimme5456: Lazarus2976, komm1204 heraus1854!

44 Und2532 der Verstorbene2348 kam heraus1831, gebunden1210 mit Grabtüchern2750 an Füßen4228 und Händen5495, und sein Angesicht3799 verhüllet mit einem Schweißtuch4676. JEsus2424 spricht3004 zu ihnen846: Löset3089 ihn846 auf und lasset863 ihn846 gehen5217!

45 Viel4183 nun3767 der Juden2453, die3739 zu4314 Maria3137 kommen2064 waren und2532 sahen2300, was3588 JEsus2424 tat4160, glaubten4100 an1537 ihn846.

46 Etliche5100 aber1161 von1537 ihnen846 gingen565 hin zu4314 den Pharisäern5330 und2532 sagten2036 ihnen846, was3739 JEsus2424 getan4160 hatte.

47 Da3767 versammelten4863 die3754 Hohenpriester749 und2532 die Pharisäer5330 einen Rat4892 und2532 sprachen3004: Was5101 tun4160 wir? Dieser3778 Mensch444 tut4160 viel4183 Zeichen4592.

48 Lassen863 wir2532 ihn846 also2532, so1437 werden863 sie846 alle3956 an1519 ihn glauben4100. So3779 kommen2064 dann die Römer4514 und2532 nehmen142 uns2257 Land5117 und2532 Leute1484.

49 Einer5100 aber1161 unter1537 ihnen846, Kaiphas2533, der1565 desselben Jahres1763 Hoherpriester749 war5607, sprach2036 zu ihnen: Ihr846 wisset1492 nichts3762,

50 bedenket1260 auch3761 nichts3361; es ist4851 uns2254 besser, ein1520 Mensch444 sterbe599 für5228 das2443 Volk2992, denn2532 daß3754 das ganze3650 Volk1484 verderbe622.

51 Solches aber1161 redete2036 er1565 nicht3756 von575 sich selbst1438, sondern235, dieweil er desselbigen Jahres1763 Hoherpriester749 war5607, weissagte4395 er. Denn3754 JEsus2424 sollte3195 sterben599 für5228 das5124 Volk1484,

52 und2532 nicht3756 für5228 das Volk1484 allein3440, sondern235 daß2443 er2532 die1519 Kinder5043 Gottes2316, die zerstreuet waren4863, zusammenbrächte.

53 Von575 dem1565 Tage2250 an ratschlagten sie4823, wie2443 sie846 ihn töteten615.

54 JEsus2424 aber3767 wandelte nicht mehr3765 frei3954 unter den Juden2453, sondern235 ging4043 von1564 dannen in1722 eine Gegend5561 nahe bei1451 der Wüste2048 in eine Stadt4172, genannt3004 Ephrem2187, und hatte sein Wesen1304 daselbst2546 mit3326 seinen Jüngern3101.

55 Es war2258 aber1161 nahe1451 das Ostern3957 der Juden2453; und2532 es gingen viele4183 hinauf305 gen1519 Jerusalem2414 aus1537 der Gegend5561 vor4253 Ostern3957 daß2443 sie sich48 reinigten.

56 Da3767 stunden sie2476 und2212 fragten nach3326 JEsu2424 und2532 redeten3004 miteinander im1722 Tempel2411: Was5101 dünket euch240, daß3754 er nicht3364 kommt2064 auf1519 das Fest1859?

57 Es hatten aber1161 die Hohenpriester749 und2532 Pharisäer5330 lassen ein Gebot1785 ausgehen, so2532 jemand5100 wüßte1097, wo1437 er846 wäre2076, daß2443 er‘s anzeigete, daß3704 sie1325 ihn griffen4084.

Chapter 11

Das Evangelium nach Johannes

Kapitel 11

1 NOW there was a man who was sick, Lazarus of the town of Bethany, the brother of Mary and Martha.

1 Es846 lag2258 aber1161 einer5100 krank770 mit Namen Lazarus2976 von575 Bethanien, in dem Flecken2968 Marias3137 und2532 ihrer Schwester79 Martha3136.

2 This is the Mary who anointed the feet of Jesus with perfume and wiped them with her hair. Lazarus who was sick, was her brother.

2 (Maria3137 aber1161 war, die3739 den3588 HErrn2962 gesalbet hatte mit Salben218 und2532 seine846 Füße4228 getrocknet1591 mit ihrem Haar2359; derselbigen Bruder80 Lazarus2976 war krank770.)

3 His two sisters therefore sent to Jesus, saying, Our Lord, behold, the one whom you love is sick.

3 Da sandten seine846 Schwestern79 zu649 ihm und ließen ihm sagen3004: HErr2962, siehe2396, den du3767 liebhast5368, der3739 liegt krank770.

4 Jesus said, This is not a sickness of death, but for the sake of the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified on his account.

4 Da1161 JEsus2424 das2443 hörete, sprach2036 er3778: Die191 Krankheit769 ist2076 nicht3756 zum Tode2288, sondern235 zur5228 Ehre1391 Gottes2316, daß4314 der846 Sohn Gottes2316 dadurch geehret werde1392.

5 Now Jesus loved Martha and Mary and Lazarus.

5 JEsus2424 aber1161 hatte25 Martha3136 lieb und2532 ihre846 Schwester79 und2532 Lazarus2976.

6 When he heard he was sick, he remained two days in the place where he was.

6 Als er nun3767 hörete, daß5613 er krank770 war2258, blieb3306 er zwei1417 Tage2250 an1722 dem3739 Ort5117, da er war.

7 After that he said to his disciples, Come, let us go again to Judaea.

7 Danach1899 spricht3004 er zu1519 seinen Jüngern3101: Lasset uns wieder3825 nach3326 Judäa2449 ziehen71!

8 His disciples said to him, Teacher, not long ago the Jews wanted to stone you, and yet are you going there again?

8 Seine846 Jünger3101 sprachen3004 zu ihm: Meister4461, jenesmal wollten2212 die Juden2453 dich4571 steinigen3034, und2532 du willst5217 wieder3825 dahin1563 ziehen?

9 Jesus said to them, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If a man walks by day time, he will not stumble, because he sees the light of this world.

9 JEsus2424 antwortete611: Sind1526 nicht3780 des Tages2250 zwölf1427 Stunden5610? Wer1437 des Tages2250 wandelt4043, der1722 stößet sich5100 nicht3756, denn3754 er siehet das Licht5457 dieser5127 Welt2889.

10 But if a man travels at night time, he will stumble, because there is no light in it.

10 Wer1437 aber1161 des846 Nachts3571 wandelt4043, der1722 stößet sich4350, denn3754 es ist2076 kein5100 Licht5457 in1722 ihm.

11 Jesus said these things; and after that he said to them, Our friend Lazarus is asleep; but I am going to awake him.

11 Solches5023 sagte3004 er846, und2532 danach spricht2036 er846 zu3326 ihnen846: Lazarus2976, unser2257 Freund5384, schläft2837; aber235 ich5124 gehe hin4198, daß2443 ich ihn aufwecke.

12 His disciples said to him, Our Lord, if he is sleeping, he will get well.

12 Da sprachen2036 seine846 Jünger3101: HErr2962, schläft2837 er, so3767 wird‘s besser mit ihm4982.

13 But Jesus spoke of his death; and they thought that what he said was sleeping in bed.

13 JEsus2424 aber1161 sagte2046 von4012 seinem Tode2288; sie1565 meineten aber1161, er846 redete3004 vom4012 leiblichen2838 Schlaf5258.

14 Then Jesus said to them, plainly, Lazarus is dead.

14 Da3767 sagte2036 es ihnen846 JEsus2424 frei3954 heraus: Lazarus2976 ist gestorben599.

15 And I am glad I was not there, for your sakes, so that you may believe; but let us walk there.

15 Und2532 ich2252 bin froh5463 um1223 euretwillen, daß3754 ich nicht3756 dagewesen1563 bin, auf daß2443 ihr5209 glaubet4100. Aber235 lasset uns zu4314 ihm846 ziehen71!

16 Then Thomas, who is called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, Let us also go, and die with him.

16 Da3767 sprach2036 Thomas2381, der da2532 genannt3004 ist71 Zwilling1324, zu den3588 Jüngern4827: Lasset uns mit3326 ziehen71, daß2443 wir2249 mit ihm846 sterben599!

17 So Jesus came to Bethany, and he found that he had been four days in the tomb.

17 Da3767 kam2064 JEsus2424 und fand2147 ihn, daß er846 schon2235 vier5064 Tage2250 im1722 Grabe3419 gelegen war2192.

18 Now Bethany was towards Jerusalem, a distance of about two miles.

18 (Bethanien963 aber1161 war2258 nahe bei1451 Jerusalem2414, bei5613 fünfzehn1178 Feldweges.)

19 And many Jews kept coming to Martha and Mary, to comfort their hearts concerning their brother.

19 Und2532 viel4183 Juden2453 waren, zu1537 Martha3136 und2532 Maria kommen2064, sie846 zu4314 trösten3888 über4012 ihren846 Bruder80.

20 When Martha heard that Jesus had come, she went out to meet him; but Mary sat in the house.

20 Als Martha3136 nun3767 hörete, daß5613 JEsus2424 kommt2064, gehet sie846 ihm entgegen; Maria3137 aber3754 blieb daheim1722 sitzen2516.

21 Then Martha said to Jesus, My Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.

21 Da sprach2036 Martha3136 zu4314 JEsu2424: HErr2962, wärest1487 du3767 hier5602 gewesen2258, mein3450 Bruder wäre302 nicht3756 gestorben2348;

22 But even now I know that whatever you ask of God, he will give you.

22 aber235 ich302 weiß auch2532 noch3568, daß, was du bittest154 von GOtt2316, das1492 wird dir4671 GOtt2316 geben1325.

23 Jesus said to her, Your brother will rise up.

23 JEsus2424 spricht3004 zu ihr846: Dein4675 Bruder80 soll auferstehen450.

24 Martha said to him, I know he will rise up in the resurrection at the last day.

24 Martha3136 spricht3004 zu1722 ihm: Ich weiß1492 wohl, daß3754 er846 auferstehen450 wird in1722 der Auferstehung386 am Jüngsten2078 Tage2250.

25 Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, even though he die, he shall live.

25 JEsus2424 spricht2036 zu1519 ihr846: Ich1473 bin1510 die Auferstehung386 und2532 das Leben2222. Wer an mich1691 glaubet4100, der wird leben2198, ob2579 er gleich stürbe599;

26 And whoever is alive and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?

26 und2532 wer4100 da5124 lebet2198 und2532 glaubet4100 an1519 mich1691, der wird599 nimmermehr sterben599. Glaubest du das3956?

27 She said to him, Yes, my Lord; I do believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come to the world.

27 Sie846 spricht3004 zu ihm: HErr2962, ja3483, ich1473 glaube4100, daß3754 du4771 bist1488 Christus5547, der Sohn Gottes2316, der in1519 die3588 Welt2889 kommen2064 ist.

28 And when she had said these things, she went away and called her sister Mary secretly, and said to her, Our teacher has come, and he is calling you.

28 Und2532 da3918 sie das5023 gesagt2036 hatte2036, ging565 sie hin und2532 rief5455 ihre Schwester79 Maria3137 heimlich2977 und2532 sprach2036: Der Meister1320 ist da und rufet dich4571.

29 When Mary heard it, she rose up quickly and came to him.

29 Dieselbige, als5613 sie846 das1565 hörete, stund sie eilend5035 auf1453 und2532 kam191 zu4314 ihm.

30 Jesus had not yet come into the town, but he was still at the same place where Martha met him.

30 Denn JEsus2424 war2064 noch nicht3768 in1519 den Flecken2968 kommen2064, sondern235 war2258 noch an1722 dem Ort5117, da1161 ihm846 Martha3136 war entgegenkommen.

31 The Jews also who were with her in the house, comforting her, when they saw Mary rise up quickly and go out, followed her, for they thought she was going to the tomb to weep.

31 Die3588 Juden2453, die bei1519 ihr846 im1722 Hause3614 waren5607 und2532 trösteten3888 sie846, da3767 sie sahen1492 Maria3137, daß3754 sie eilend5030 aufstund und hinausging, folgten190 sie ihr846 nach3326 und sprachen: Sie gehet1831 hin5217 zum Grabe3419, daß2443 sie daselbst1563 weine2799.

32 When Mary came where Jesus was, and saw him, she threw herself at his feet, and said to him, My Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.

32 Als nun3767 Maria3137 kam2064, da5613 JEsus2424 war2258, und sah1492 ihn, fiel4098 sie846 zu1519 seinen846 Füßen4228 und sprach3004 zu ihm846: HErr2962, wärest1487 du302 hier5602 gewesen2258, mein3450 Bruder80 wäre nicht3756 gestorben599.

33 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews weeping, who had come with her, he was moved in his spirit, and was greatly disturbed.

33 Als5613 JEsus2424 sie sah1492 weinen2799 und3767 die Juden2453 auch2532 weinen2799, die mit ihr846 kamen4905, ergrimmete er846 im Geist4151 und2532 betrübte sich1438 selbst5015

34 And he said, Where have you laid him? They said to him, Our Lord, come and see.

34 und2532 sprach2036: Wo4226 habt5087 ihr846 ihn hingelegt? Sie846 sprachen3004 zu ihm: HErr2962, komm2064 und2532 sieh es1492!

35 And Jesus was in tears.

35 Und JEsu2424 gingen die Augen über1145.

36 The Jews then said, Look, how much he loved him!

36 Da sprachen3004 die Juden2453: Siehe2396, wie4459 hat5368 er846 ihn so3767 liebgehabt!

37 Some of them said, Could not this man, who opened the eyes of that blind man, have also kept this man from dying?

37 Etliche5100 aber1161 unter1537 ihnen846 sprachen2036: Konnte1410, der3778 dem3588 Blinden5185 die Augen3788 aufgetan455 hat4160, nicht3756 verschaffen, daß2443 auch2532 dieser3778 nicht3361 stürbe599?

38 As Jesus was disturbed in himself because of them, he came to the tomb. That tomb was a cave, and a stone was placed at the entrance.

38 JEsus2424 aber3767 ergrimmete abermal in1722 sich1909 selbst1438 und2532 kam2064 zum1519 Grabe. Es846 war2258 aber eine Kluft4693 und ein Stein3037 darauf gelegt.

39 Jesus said, Take away this stone. Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, My Lord, he is already disfigured, for he is dead four days.

39 JEsus2424 sprach3004: Hebet den Stein3037 ab! Spricht3004 zu ihm Martha3136, die Schwester79 des Verstorbenen2348: HErr2962, er846 stinkt3605 schon2235; denn1063 er2076 ist142 vier Tage5066 gelegen.

40 Jesus said to her, Did not I say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?

40 JEsus2424 spricht3004 zu ihr846: Hab‘ ich1437 dir4671 nicht3756 gesagt2036, so3754 du glauben4100 würdest, du solltest die Herrlichkeit1391 Gottes2316 sehen3700?

41 So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted his eyes upwards, and said, O Father, I thank you for you have heard me,

41 Da3757 huben sie den Stein3037 ab, da der Verstorbene2348 lag2258. JEsus2424 aber1161 hub seine Augen3788 empor507 und2532 sprach2036: Vater3962, ich danke2168 dir4671, daß3754 du3767 mich3450 erhöret hast191!

42 And I know that you always hear me; but I say these things just because of this people who stand around, so that they may believe that you have sent me.

42 Doch ich1473 weiß, daß3754 du191 mich3450 allezeit3842 hörest, sondern235 um1223 des3588 Volks3793 willen, das1492 umherstehet, sage2036 ich‘s, daß2443 sie1161 glauben4100, du4771 habest mich3165 gesandt649.

43 And when he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come outside.

43 Da2532 er2905 das5023 gesagt hatte2036, rief er mit lauter3173 Stimme5456: Lazarus2976, komm1204 heraus1854!

44 And the dead man came out, his hands and feet bound with burial clothes; and his face bound with a burial napkin. Jesus said to them, Loose him and let him go.

44 Und2532 der Verstorbene2348 kam heraus1831, gebunden1210 mit Grabtüchern2750 an Füßen4228 und Händen5495, und sein Angesicht3799 verhüllet mit einem Schweißtuch4676. JEsus2424 spricht3004 zu ihnen846: Löset3089 ihn846 auf und lasset863 ihn846 gehen5217!

45 Many of the Jews who had come to Mary, when they saw what Jesus had done, believed in him.

45 Viel4183 nun3767 der Juden2453, die3739 zu4314 Maria3137 kommen2064 waren und2532 sahen2300, was3588 JEsus2424 tat4160, glaubten4100 an1537 ihn846.

46 And some of them went to the Pharisees, and told them everything Jesus had done.

46 Etliche5100 aber1161 von1537 ihnen846 gingen565 hin zu4314 den Pharisäern5330 und2532 sagten2036 ihnen846, was3739 JEsus2424 getan4160 hatte.

47 So the high priests and the Pharisees gathered together and said, What shall we do? for this man does many miracles?

47 Da3767 versammelten4863 die3754 Hohenpriester749 und2532 die Pharisäer5330 einen Rat4892 und2532 sprachen3004: Was5101 tun4160 wir? Dieser3778 Mensch444 tut4160 viel4183 Zeichen4592.

48 If we allow him to continue like this, all men will believe in him; and the Romans will come and take over both our country and our people.

48 Lassen863 wir2532 ihn846 also2532, so1437 werden863 sie846 alle3956 an1519 ihn glauben4100. So3779 kommen2064 dann die Römer4514 und2532 nehmen142 uns2257 Land5117 und2532 Leute1484.

49 But one of them, called Caiaphas, who was the high priest for that year, said to them, You know nothing;

49 Einer5100 aber1161 unter1537 ihnen846, Kaiphas2533, der1565 desselben Jahres1763 Hoherpriester749 war5607, sprach2036 zu ihnen: Ihr846 wisset1492 nichts3762,

50 Nor do you reason that it is much better for us that one man should die instead of the people, and not all the people perish.

50 bedenket1260 auch3761 nichts3361; es ist4851 uns2254 besser, ein1520 Mensch444 sterbe599 für5228 das2443 Volk2992, denn2532 daß3754 das ganze3650 Volk1484 verderbe622.

51 He did not say this of himself; but because he was the high priest for that year, he prophesied that Jesus had to die for the sake of the people;

51 Solches aber1161 redete2036 er1565 nicht3756 von575 sich selbst1438, sondern235, dieweil er desselbigen Jahres1763 Hoherpriester749 war5607, weissagte4395 er. Denn3754 JEsus2424 sollte3195 sterben599 für5228 das5124 Volk1484,

52 And not only for the sake of the people, but also to gather together the children of God who are scattered abroad.

52 und2532 nicht3756 für5228 das Volk1484 allein3440, sondern235 daß2443 er2532 die1519 Kinder5043 Gottes2316, die zerstreuet waren4863, zusammenbrächte.

53 And from that very day, they decided to kill him.

53 Von575 dem1565 Tage2250 an ratschlagten sie4823, wie2443 sie846 ihn töteten615.

54 Jesus therefore did not walk openly among the Jews, but went away thence to a place which is close to the wilderness, in the province of Ephraim; and he remained there with his disciples.

54 JEsus2424 aber3767 wandelte nicht mehr3765 frei3954 unter den Juden2453, sondern235 ging4043 von1564 dannen in1722 eine Gegend5561 nahe bei1451 der Wüste2048 in eine Stadt4172, genannt3004 Ephrem2187, und hatte sein Wesen1304 daselbst2546 mit3326 seinen Jüngern3101.

55 Now the Jewish passover was at hand; and many went up from the towns to Jerusalem, before the feast, to purify themselves.

55 Es war2258 aber1161 nahe1451 das Ostern3957 der Juden2453; und2532 es gingen viele4183 hinauf305 gen1519 Jerusalem2414 aus1537 der Gegend5561 vor4253 Ostern3957 daß2443 sie sich48 reinigten.

56 And they were looking for Jesus, and at the temple they kept saying to one another, What do you think, will he not come to the feast?

56 Da3767 stunden sie2476 und2212 fragten nach3326 JEsu2424 und2532 redeten3004 miteinander im1722 Tempel2411: Was5101 dünket euch240, daß3754 er nicht3364 kommt2064 auf1519 das Fest1859?

57 But the high priests and the Pharisees had already commanded, that if any man should know where he is, to let them know, so that they might seize him.

57 Es hatten aber1161 die Hohenpriester749 und2532 Pharisäer5330 lassen ein Gebot1785 ausgehen, so2532 jemand5100 wüßte1097, wo1437 er846 wäre2076, daß2443 er‘s anzeigete, daß3704 sie1325 ihn griffen4084.
