Chapter 11

1 NOW there was a man who was sick, Lazarus of the town of Bethany, the brother of Mary and Martha.

2 This is the Mary who anointed the feet of Jesus with perfume and wiped them with her hair. Lazarus who was sick, was her brother.

3 His two sisters therefore sent to Jesus, saying, Our Lord, behold, the one whom you love is sick.

4 Jesus said, This is not a sickness of death, but for the sake of the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified on his account.

5 Now Jesus loved Martha and Mary and Lazarus.

6 When he heard he was sick, he remained two days in the place where he was.

7 After that he said to his disciples, Come, let us go again to Judaea.

8 His disciples said to him, Teacher, not long ago the Jews wanted to stone you, and yet are you going there again?

9 Jesus said to them, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If a man walks by day time, he will not stumble, because he sees the light of this world.

10 But if a man travels at night time, he will stumble, because there is no light in it.

11 Jesus said these things; and after that he said to them, Our friend Lazarus is asleep; but I am going to awake him.

12 His disciples said to him, Our Lord, if he is sleeping, he will get well.

13 But Jesus spoke of his death; and they thought that what he said was sleeping in bed.

14 Then Jesus said to them, plainly, Lazarus is dead.

15 And I am glad I was not there, for your sakes, so that you may believe; but let us walk there.

16 Then Thomas, who is called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, Let us also go, and die with him.

17 So Jesus came to Bethany, and he found that he had been four days in the tomb.

18 Now Bethany was towards Jerusalem, a distance of about two miles.

19 And many Jews kept coming to Martha and Mary, to comfort their hearts concerning their brother.

20 When Martha heard that Jesus had come, she went out to meet him; but Mary sat in the house.

21 Then Martha said to Jesus, My Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.

22 But even now I know that whatever you ask of God, he will give you.

23 Jesus said to her, Your brother will rise up.

24 Martha said to him, I know he will rise up in the resurrection at the last day.

25 Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, even though he die, he shall live.

26 And whoever is alive and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?

27 She said to him, Yes, my Lord; I do believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come to the world.

28 And when she had said these things, she went away and called her sister Mary secretly, and said to her, Our teacher has come, and he is calling you.

29 When Mary heard it, she rose up quickly and came to him.

30 Jesus had not yet come into the town, but he was still at the same place where Martha met him.

31 The Jews also who were with her in the house, comforting her, when they saw Mary rise up quickly and go out, followed her, for they thought she was going to the tomb to weep.

32 When Mary came where Jesus was, and saw him, she threw herself at his feet, and said to him, My Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.

33 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews weeping, who had come with her, he was moved in his spirit, and was greatly disturbed.

34 And he said, Where have you laid him? They said to him, Our Lord, come and see.

35 And Jesus was in tears.

36 The Jews then said, Look, how much he loved him!

37 Some of them said, Could not this man, who opened the eyes of that blind man, have also kept this man from dying?

38 As Jesus was disturbed in himself because of them, he came to the tomb. That tomb was a cave, and a stone was placed at the entrance.

39 Jesus said, Take away this stone. Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, My Lord, he is already disfigured, for he is dead four days.

40 Jesus said to her, Did not I say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?

41 So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted his eyes upwards, and said, O Father, I thank you for you have heard me,

42 And I know that you always hear me; but I say these things just because of this people who stand around, so that they may believe that you have sent me.

43 And when he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come outside.

44 And the dead man came out, his hands and feet bound with burial clothes; and his face bound with a burial napkin. Jesus said to them, Loose him and let him go.

45 Many of the Jews who had come to Mary, when they saw what Jesus had done, believed in him.

46 And some of them went to the Pharisees, and told them everything Jesus had done.

47 So the high priests and the Pharisees gathered together and said, What shall we do? for this man does many miracles?

48 If we allow him to continue like this, all men will believe in him; and the Romans will come and take over both our country and our people.

49 But one of them, called Caiaphas, who was the high priest for that year, said to them, You know nothing;

50 Nor do you reason that it is much better for us that one man should die instead of the people, and not all the people perish.

51 He did not say this of himself; but because he was the high priest for that year, he prophesied that Jesus had to die for the sake of the people;

52 And not only for the sake of the people, but also to gather together the children of God who are scattered abroad.

53 And from that very day, they decided to kill him.

54 Jesus therefore did not walk openly among the Jews, but went away thence to a place which is close to the wilderness, in the province of Ephraim; and he remained there with his disciples.

55 Now the Jewish passover was at hand; and many went up from the towns to Jerusalem, before the feast, to purify themselves.

56 And they were looking for Jesus, and at the temple they kept saying to one another, What do you think, will he not come to the feast?

57 But the high priests and the Pharisees had already commanded, that if any man should know where he is, to let them know, so that they might seize him.

Chapter 11

1 Now1161 a certain5100 man was2258 sick,770 named Lazarus,2976 of575 Bethany,963 the3588 town2968 of Mary3137 and2532 her846 sister79 Martha.3136

2 (It1161 was2258 that Mary3137 which anointed218 the3588 Lord2962 with ointment,3464 and2532 wiped1591 his846 feet4228 with her848 hair,2359 whose3739 brother80 Lazarus2976 was sick.)770

3 Therefore3767 his sisters79 sent649 unto4314 him,846 saying,3004 Lord,2962 behold,2396 he whom3739 thou lovest5368 is sick.770

4 When1161 Jesus2424 heard191 that, he said,2036 This3778 sickness769 is2076 not3756 unto4314 death,2288 but235 for5228 the3588 glory1391 of God,2316 that2443 the3588 Son5207 of God2316 might be glorified1392 thereby.1223 846

5 Now1161 Jesus2424 loved25 Martha,3136 and2532 her846 sister,79 and2532 Lazarus.2976

6 When5613 he had heard191 therefore3767 that3754 he was sick,770 he abode3306 3303 two1417 days2250 still5119 in1722 the same3739 place5117 where he was.2258

7 Then1899 after3326 that5124 saith3004 he to his disciples,3101 Let us go71 into1519 Judea2449 again.3825

8 His disciples3101 say3004 unto him,846 Master,4461 the3588 Jews2453 of late3568 sought2212 to stone3034 thee;4571 and2532 goest5217 thou thither1563 again?3825

9 Jesus2424 answered,611 Are1526 there not3780 twelve1427 hours5610 in the3588 day?2250 If1437 any man5100 walk4043 in1722 the3588 day,2250 he stumbleth4350 not,3756 because3754 he seeth991 the3588 light5457 of this5127 world.2889

10 But1161 if1437 a man5100 walk4043 in1722 the3588 night,3571 he stumbleth,4350 because3754 there is2076 no3756 light5457 in1722 him.846

11 These things5023 said2036 he: and2532 after3326 that5124 he saith3004 unto them,846 Our2257 friend5384 Lazarus2976 sleepeth;2837 but235 I go,4198 that2443 I may awake him out of sleep.1852 846

12 Then3767 said2036 his846 disciples,3101 Lord,2962 if1487 he sleep,2837 he shall do well.4982

13 Howbeit1161 Jesus2424 spake2046 of4012 his846 death:2288 but1161 they1565 thought1380 that3754 he had spoken3004 of4012 taking of rest2838 in sleep.5258

14 Then5119 3767 said2036 Jesus2424 unto them846 plainly,3954 Lazarus2976 is dead.599

15 And2532 I am glad5463 for your sakes1223 5209 that3754 I was2252 not3756 there,1563 to the intent2443 ye may believe;4100 nevertheless235 let us go71 unto4314 him.846

16 Then3767 said2036 Thomas,2381 which is called3004 Didymus,1324 unto his fellow disciples,4827 Let us2249 also2532 go,71 that2443 we may die599 with3326 him.846

17 Then3767 when Jesus2424 came,2064 he found2147 that846 he had2192 lain in1722 the3588 grave3419 four5064 days2250 already.2235

18 Now1161 Bethany963 was2258 nigh unto1451 Jerusalem,2414 about5613 fifteen1178 furlongs4712 off: 575

19 And2532 many4183 of1537 the3588 Jews2453 came2064 to4314 Martha3136 and2532 Mary,3137 to2443 comfort3888 them846 concerning4012 their846 brother.80

20 Then3767 Martha,3136 as soon as5613 she heard191 that3754 Jesus2424 was coming,2064 went and met5221 him:846 but1161 Mary3137 sat2516 still in1722 the3588 house.3624

21 Then3767 said2036 Martha3136 unto4314 Jesus,2424 Lord,2962 if1487 thou hadst been2258 here,5602 my3450 brother80 had not3756 died.2348 302

22 But235 I know,1492 that3754 even2532 now,3568 whatsoever3745 thou wilt ask154 302 of God,2316 God2316 will give1325 it thee.4671

23 Jesus2424 saith3004 unto her,846 Thy4675 brother80 shall rise again.450

24 Martha3136 saith3004 unto him,846 I know1492 that3754 he shall rise again450 in1722 the3588 resurrection386 at1722 the3588 last2078 day.2250

25 Jesus2424 said2036 unto her,846 I1473 am1510 the3588 resurrection,386 and2532 the3588 life: 2222 he that believeth4100 in1519 me,1691 though2579 he were dead,599 yet shall he live: 2198

26 And2532 whosoever3956 liveth2198 and2532 believeth4100 in1519 me1691 shall never3364 1519 165 die.599 Believest4100 thou this?5124

27 She saith3004 unto him,846 Yea,3483 Lord:2962 I1473 believe4100 that3754 thou4771 art1488 the3588 Christ,5547 the3588 Son5207 of God,2316 which should come2064 into1519 the3588 world.2889

28 And2532 when she had so5023 said,2036 she went her way,565 and2532 called5455 Mary3137 her848 sister79 secretly,2977 saying,2036 The3588 Master1320 is come,3918 and2532 calleth5455 for thee.4571

29 As soon as5613 she1565 heard191 that, she arose1453 quickly,5035 and2532 came2064 unto4314 him.846

30 Now1161 Jesus2424 was not yet3768 come2064 into1519 the3588 town,2968 but235 was2258 in1722 that place5117 where3699 Martha3136 met5221 him.846

31 The3588 Jews2453 then3767 which were5607 with3326 her846 in1722 the3588 house,3614 and2532 comforted3888 her,846 when they saw1492 Mary,3137 that3754 she rose up450 hastily5030 and2532 went out,1831 followed190 her,846 saying,3004 She goeth5217 unto1519 the3588 grave3419 to2443 weep2799 there.1563

32 Then3767 when5613 Mary3137 was come2064 where3699 Jesus2424 was,2258 and saw1492 him,846 she fell down4098 at1519 his846 feet,4228 saying3004 unto him,846 Lord,2962 if1487 thou hadst been2258 here,5602 my3450 brother80 had not3756 died.599 302

33 When5613 Jesus2424 therefore3767 saw1492 her846 weeping,2799 and2532 the3588 Jews2453 also weeping2799 which came with4905 her,846 he groaned1690 in the3588 spirit,4151 and2532 was troubled.5015 1438

34 And2532 said,2036 Where4226 have ye laid5087 him? They846 said3004 unto him,846 Lord,2962 come2064 and2532 see.1492

35 Jesus2424 wept.1145

36 Then3767 said3004 the3588 Jews,2453 Behold2396 how4459 he loved5368 him!846

37 And1161 some5100 of1537 them846 said,2036 Could1410 not3756 this man,3778 which opened455 the3588 eyes3788 of the3588 blind,5185 have caused4160 that2443 even2532 this man3778 should not3361 have died?599

38 Jesus2424 therefore3767 again3825 groaning1690 in1722 himself1438 cometh2064 to1519 the3588 grave.3419 It1161 was2258 a cave,4693 and2532 a stone3037 lay1945 upon1909 it.846

39 Jesus2424 said,3004 Take ye away142 the3588 stone.3037 Martha,3136 the3588 sister79 of him that was dead,2348 saith3004 unto him,846 Lord,2962 by this time2235 he stinketh:3605 for1063 he hath been2076 dead four days.5066

40 Jesus2424 saith3004 unto her,846 Said2036 I not3756 unto thee,4671 that,3754 if1437 thou wouldest believe,4100 thou shouldest see3700 the3588 glory1391 of God?2316

41 Then3767 they took away142 the3588 stone3037 from the place where3757 the3588 dead2348 was2258 laid.2749 And1161 Jesus2424 lifted142 up507 his eyes,3788 and2532 said,2036 Father,3962 I thank2168 thee4671 that3754 thou hast heard191 me.3450

42 And1161 I1473 knew1492 that3754 thou hearest191 me3450 always: 3842 but235 because1223 of the3588 people3793 which stand by4026 I said2036 it, that2443 they may believe4100 that3754 thou4771 hast sent649 me.3165

43 And2532 when he thus5023 had spoken,2036 he cried2905 with a loud3173 voice,5456 Lazarus,2976 come1204 forth.1854

44 And2532 he that was dead2348 came forth,1831 bound1210 hand5495 and2532 foot4228 with graveclothes:2750 and2532 his846 face3799 was bound about4019 with a napkin.4676 Jesus2424 saith3004 unto them,846 Loose3089 him,846 and2532 let863 him go.5217

45 Then3767 many4183 of1537 the3588 Jews2453 which came2064 to4314 Mary,3137 and2532 had seen2300 the things which3739 Jesus2424 did,4160 believed4100 on1519 him.846

46 But1161 some5100 of1537 them846 went their ways565 to4314 the3588 Pharisees,5330 and2532 told2036 them846 what things3739 Jesus2424 had done.4160

47 Then3767 gathered4863 the3588 chief priests749 and2532 the3588 Pharisees5330 a council,4892 and2532 said,3004 What5101 do4160 we? for3754 this3778 man444 doeth4160 many4183 miracles.4592

48 If1437 we let him thus alone,863 846 3779 all3956 men will believe4100 on1519 him:846 and2532 the3588 Romans4514 shall come2064 and2532 take away142 both2532 our2257 place5117 and2532 nation.1484

49 And1161 5100 one1520 of1537 them,846 named Caiaphas,2533 being5607 the high priest749 that same1565 year,1763 said2036 unto them,846 Ye5210 know1492 3756 nothing at all,3762

50 Nor3761 consider1260 that3754 it is expedient4851 for us,2254 that2443 one1520 man444 should die599 for5228 the3588 people,2992 and2532 that the3588 whole3650 nation1484 perish622 not.3361

51 And1161 this5124 spake2036 he not3756 of575 himself:1438 but235 being5607 high priest749 that1565 year,1763 he prophesied4395 that3754 Jesus2424 should3195 die599 for5228 that nation;1484

52 And2532 not3756 for5228 that nation1484 only,3440 but235 that2443 also2532 he should gather together4863 in1519 one1520 the3588 children5043 of God2316 that were scattered abroad.1287

53 Then3767 from575 that1565 day2250 forth they took counsel together4823 for to2443 put him to death.615 846

54 Jesus2424 therefore3767 walked4043 no3756 more2089 openly3954 among1722 the3588 Jews;2453 but235 went565 thence1564 unto1519 a country5561 near to1451 the3588 wilderness,2048 into1519 a city4172 called3004 Ephraim,2187 and there2546 continued1304 with3326 his846 disciples.3101

55 And1161 the3588 Jews'2453 passover3957 was2258 nigh at hand:1451 and2532 many4183 went out of the country up305 1537 3588 5561 to1519 Jerusalem2414 before4253 the3588 passover,3957 to2443 purify48 themselves.1438

56 Then3767 sought2212 they for Jesus,2424 and2532 spake3004 among3326 themselves,240 as they stood2476 in1722 the3588 temple,2411 What5101 think1380 ye,5213 that3754 he will not3364 come2064 to1519 the3588 feast?1859

57 Now1161 both2532 the3588 chief priests749 and2532 the3588 Pharisees5330 had given1325 a commandment,1785 that,2443 if1437 any man5100 knew1097 where4226 he were,2076 he should show3377 it, that3704 they might take4084 him.846

Chapter 11

John

Chapter 11

1 NOW there was a man who was sick, Lazarus of the town of Bethany, the brother of Mary and Martha.

1 Now1161 a certain5100 man was2258 sick,770 named Lazarus,2976 of575 Bethany,963 the3588 town2968 of Mary3137 and2532 her846 sister79 Martha.3136

2 This is the Mary who anointed the feet of Jesus with perfume and wiped them with her hair. Lazarus who was sick, was her brother.

2 (It1161 was2258 that Mary3137 which anointed218 the3588 Lord2962 with ointment,3464 and2532 wiped1591 his846 feet4228 with her848 hair,2359 whose3739 brother80 Lazarus2976 was sick.)770

3 His two sisters therefore sent to Jesus, saying, Our Lord, behold, the one whom you love is sick.

3 Therefore3767 his sisters79 sent649 unto4314 him,846 saying,3004 Lord,2962 behold,2396 he whom3739 thou lovest5368 is sick.770

4 Jesus said, This is not a sickness of death, but for the sake of the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified on his account.

5 Now Jesus loved Martha and Mary and Lazarus.

5 Now1161 Jesus2424 loved25 Martha,3136 and2532 her846 sister,79 and2532 Lazarus.2976

6 When he heard he was sick, he remained two days in the place where he was.

6 When5613 he had heard191 therefore3767 that3754 he was sick,770 he abode3306 3303 two1417 days2250 still5119 in1722 the same3739 place5117 where he was.2258

7 After that he said to his disciples, Come, let us go again to Judaea.

7 Then1899 after3326 that5124 saith3004 he to his disciples,3101 Let us go71 into1519 Judea2449 again.3825

8 His disciples said to him, Teacher, not long ago the Jews wanted to stone you, and yet are you going there again?

8 His disciples3101 say3004 unto him,846 Master,4461 the3588 Jews2453 of late3568 sought2212 to stone3034 thee;4571 and2532 goest5217 thou thither1563 again?3825

9 Jesus said to them, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If a man walks by day time, he will not stumble, because he sees the light of this world.

10 But if a man travels at night time, he will stumble, because there is no light in it.

10 But1161 if1437 a man5100 walk4043 in1722 the3588 night,3571 he stumbleth,4350 because3754 there is2076 no3756 light5457 in1722 him.846

11 Jesus said these things; and after that he said to them, Our friend Lazarus is asleep; but I am going to awake him.

11 These things5023 said2036 he: and2532 after3326 that5124 he saith3004 unto them,846 Our2257 friend5384 Lazarus2976 sleepeth;2837 but235 I go,4198 that2443 I may awake him out of sleep.1852 846

12 His disciples said to him, Our Lord, if he is sleeping, he will get well.

12 Then3767 said2036 his846 disciples,3101 Lord,2962 if1487 he sleep,2837 he shall do well.4982

13 But Jesus spoke of his death; and they thought that what he said was sleeping in bed.

13 Howbeit1161 Jesus2424 spake2046 of4012 his846 death:2288 but1161 they1565 thought1380 that3754 he had spoken3004 of4012 taking of rest2838 in sleep.5258

14 Then Jesus said to them, plainly, Lazarus is dead.

14 Then5119 3767 said2036 Jesus2424 unto them846 plainly,3954 Lazarus2976 is dead.599

15 And I am glad I was not there, for your sakes, so that you may believe; but let us walk there.

15 And2532 I am glad5463 for your sakes1223 5209 that3754 I was2252 not3756 there,1563 to the intent2443 ye may believe;4100 nevertheless235 let us go71 unto4314 him.846

16 Then Thomas, who is called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, Let us also go, and die with him.

16 Then3767 said2036 Thomas,2381 which is called3004 Didymus,1324 unto his fellow disciples,4827 Let us2249 also2532 go,71 that2443 we may die599 with3326 him.846

17 So Jesus came to Bethany, and he found that he had been four days in the tomb.

17 Then3767 when Jesus2424 came,2064 he found2147 that846 he had2192 lain in1722 the3588 grave3419 four5064 days2250 already.2235

18 Now Bethany was towards Jerusalem, a distance of about two miles.

18 Now1161 Bethany963 was2258 nigh unto1451 Jerusalem,2414 about5613 fifteen1178 furlongs4712 off: 575

19 And many Jews kept coming to Martha and Mary, to comfort their hearts concerning their brother.

19 And2532 many4183 of1537 the3588 Jews2453 came2064 to4314 Martha3136 and2532 Mary,3137 to2443 comfort3888 them846 concerning4012 their846 brother.80

20 When Martha heard that Jesus had come, she went out to meet him; but Mary sat in the house.

20 Then3767 Martha,3136 as soon as5613 she heard191 that3754 Jesus2424 was coming,2064 went and met5221 him:846 but1161 Mary3137 sat2516 still in1722 the3588 house.3624

21 Then Martha said to Jesus, My Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.

21 Then3767 said2036 Martha3136 unto4314 Jesus,2424 Lord,2962 if1487 thou hadst been2258 here,5602 my3450 brother80 had not3756 died.2348 302

22 But even now I know that whatever you ask of God, he will give you.

22 But235 I know,1492 that3754 even2532 now,3568 whatsoever3745 thou wilt ask154 302 of God,2316 God2316 will give1325 it thee.4671

23 Jesus said to her, Your brother will rise up.

23 Jesus2424 saith3004 unto her,846 Thy4675 brother80 shall rise again.450

24 Martha said to him, I know he will rise up in the resurrection at the last day.

24 Martha3136 saith3004 unto him,846 I know1492 that3754 he shall rise again450 in1722 the3588 resurrection386 at1722 the3588 last2078 day.2250

25 Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, even though he die, he shall live.

25 Jesus2424 said2036 unto her,846 I1473 am1510 the3588 resurrection,386 and2532 the3588 life: 2222 he that believeth4100 in1519 me,1691 though2579 he were dead,599 yet shall he live: 2198

26 And whoever is alive and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?

26 And2532 whosoever3956 liveth2198 and2532 believeth4100 in1519 me1691 shall never3364 1519 165 die.599 Believest4100 thou this?5124

27 She said to him, Yes, my Lord; I do believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come to the world.

27 She saith3004 unto him,846 Yea,3483 Lord:2962 I1473 believe4100 that3754 thou4771 art1488 the3588 Christ,5547 the3588 Son5207 of God,2316 which should come2064 into1519 the3588 world.2889

28 And when she had said these things, she went away and called her sister Mary secretly, and said to her, Our teacher has come, and he is calling you.

28 And2532 when she had so5023 said,2036 she went her way,565 and2532 called5455 Mary3137 her848 sister79 secretly,2977 saying,2036 The3588 Master1320 is come,3918 and2532 calleth5455 for thee.4571

29 When Mary heard it, she rose up quickly and came to him.

29 As soon as5613 she1565 heard191 that, she arose1453 quickly,5035 and2532 came2064 unto4314 him.846

30 Jesus had not yet come into the town, but he was still at the same place where Martha met him.

30 Now1161 Jesus2424 was not yet3768 come2064 into1519 the3588 town,2968 but235 was2258 in1722 that place5117 where3699 Martha3136 met5221 him.846

31 The Jews also who were with her in the house, comforting her, when they saw Mary rise up quickly and go out, followed her, for they thought she was going to the tomb to weep.

32 When Mary came where Jesus was, and saw him, she threw herself at his feet, and said to him, My Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.

33 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews weeping, who had come with her, he was moved in his spirit, and was greatly disturbed.

33 When5613 Jesus2424 therefore3767 saw1492 her846 weeping,2799 and2532 the3588 Jews2453 also weeping2799 which came with4905 her,846 he groaned1690 in the3588 spirit,4151 and2532 was troubled.5015 1438

34 And he said, Where have you laid him? They said to him, Our Lord, come and see.

34 And2532 said,2036 Where4226 have ye laid5087 him? They846 said3004 unto him,846 Lord,2962 come2064 and2532 see.1492

35 And Jesus was in tears.

35 Jesus2424 wept.1145

36 The Jews then said, Look, how much he loved him!

36 Then3767 said3004 the3588 Jews,2453 Behold2396 how4459 he loved5368 him!846

37 Some of them said, Could not this man, who opened the eyes of that blind man, have also kept this man from dying?

37 And1161 some5100 of1537 them846 said,2036 Could1410 not3756 this man,3778 which opened455 the3588 eyes3788 of the3588 blind,5185 have caused4160 that2443 even2532 this man3778 should not3361 have died?599

38 As Jesus was disturbed in himself because of them, he came to the tomb. That tomb was a cave, and a stone was placed at the entrance.

38 Jesus2424 therefore3767 again3825 groaning1690 in1722 himself1438 cometh2064 to1519 the3588 grave.3419 It1161 was2258 a cave,4693 and2532 a stone3037 lay1945 upon1909 it.846

39 Jesus said, Take away this stone. Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, My Lord, he is already disfigured, for he is dead four days.

40 Jesus said to her, Did not I say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?

40 Jesus2424 saith3004 unto her,846 Said2036 I not3756 unto thee,4671 that,3754 if1437 thou wouldest believe,4100 thou shouldest see3700 the3588 glory1391 of God?2316

41 So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted his eyes upwards, and said, O Father, I thank you for you have heard me,

42 And I know that you always hear me; but I say these things just because of this people who stand around, so that they may believe that you have sent me.

42 And1161 I1473 knew1492 that3754 thou hearest191 me3450 always: 3842 but235 because1223 of the3588 people3793 which stand by4026 I said2036 it, that2443 they may believe4100 that3754 thou4771 hast sent649 me.3165

43 And when he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come outside.

43 And2532 when he thus5023 had spoken,2036 he cried2905 with a loud3173 voice,5456 Lazarus,2976 come1204 forth.1854

44 And the dead man came out, his hands and feet bound with burial clothes; and his face bound with a burial napkin. Jesus said to them, Loose him and let him go.

45 Many of the Jews who had come to Mary, when they saw what Jesus had done, believed in him.

45 Then3767 many4183 of1537 the3588 Jews2453 which came2064 to4314 Mary,3137 and2532 had seen2300 the things which3739 Jesus2424 did,4160 believed4100 on1519 him.846

46 And some of them went to the Pharisees, and told them everything Jesus had done.

46 But1161 some5100 of1537 them846 went their ways565 to4314 the3588 Pharisees,5330 and2532 told2036 them846 what things3739 Jesus2424 had done.4160

47 So the high priests and the Pharisees gathered together and said, What shall we do? for this man does many miracles?

47 Then3767 gathered4863 the3588 chief priests749 and2532 the3588 Pharisees5330 a council,4892 and2532 said,3004 What5101 do4160 we? for3754 this3778 man444 doeth4160 many4183 miracles.4592

48 If we allow him to continue like this, all men will believe in him; and the Romans will come and take over both our country and our people.

48 If1437 we let him thus alone,863 846 3779 all3956 men will believe4100 on1519 him:846 and2532 the3588 Romans4514 shall come2064 and2532 take away142 both2532 our2257 place5117 and2532 nation.1484

49 But one of them, called Caiaphas, who was the high priest for that year, said to them, You know nothing;

49 And1161 5100 one1520 of1537 them,846 named Caiaphas,2533 being5607 the high priest749 that same1565 year,1763 said2036 unto them,846 Ye5210 know1492 3756 nothing at all,3762

50 Nor do you reason that it is much better for us that one man should die instead of the people, and not all the people perish.

50 Nor3761 consider1260 that3754 it is expedient4851 for us,2254 that2443 one1520 man444 should die599 for5228 the3588 people,2992 and2532 that the3588 whole3650 nation1484 perish622 not.3361

51 He did not say this of himself; but because he was the high priest for that year, he prophesied that Jesus had to die for the sake of the people;

51 And1161 this5124 spake2036 he not3756 of575 himself:1438 but235 being5607 high priest749 that1565 year,1763 he prophesied4395 that3754 Jesus2424 should3195 die599 for5228 that nation;1484

52 And not only for the sake of the people, but also to gather together the children of God who are scattered abroad.

52 And2532 not3756 for5228 that nation1484 only,3440 but235 that2443 also2532 he should gather together4863 in1519 one1520 the3588 children5043 of God2316 that were scattered abroad.1287

53 And from that very day, they decided to kill him.

53 Then3767 from575 that1565 day2250 forth they took counsel together4823 for to2443 put him to death.615 846

54 Jesus therefore did not walk openly among the Jews, but went away thence to a place which is close to the wilderness, in the province of Ephraim; and he remained there with his disciples.

55 Now the Jewish passover was at hand; and many went up from the towns to Jerusalem, before the feast, to purify themselves.

56 And they were looking for Jesus, and at the temple they kept saying to one another, What do you think, will he not come to the feast?

56 Then3767 sought2212 they for Jesus,2424 and2532 spake3004 among3326 themselves,240 as they stood2476 in1722 the3588 temple,2411 What5101 think1380 ye,5213 that3754 he will not3364 come2064 to1519 the3588 feast?1859

57 But the high priests and the Pharisees had already commanded, that if any man should know where he is, to let them know, so that they might seize him.
