第20章

1 正月間，以色列全會眾到了尋的荒漠［desert］，就住在加低斯。米利暗死在那裏，就葬在那裏。

2 會眾沒有水喝，就聚集攻擊摩西、亞倫。

3 百姓向摩西爭鬧說：「我們的弟兄曾死在耶和華面前，情願神使我們［Would God that we］與他們同死。

4 你們為何把耶和華的會眾領到這曠野、使我們和牲畜都死在這裏呢？

5 你們為何逼著我們出埃及、領我們到這壞地方呢？這地方不好撒種，也沒有無花果樹、葡萄樹、石榴樹，又沒有水喝。」

6 摩西、亞倫離開會眾，到會幕門口，臉［faces］伏在地；耶和華的榮光向他們顯現。

7 耶和華曉諭摩西說：

8 「你拿著杖去，和你的哥哥亞倫招聚會眾，在他們眼前吩咐磐石發出水來，水就從磐石流出，給會眾和他們的牲畜喝。」

9 於是摩西照耶和華所吩咐的，從耶和華面前取了杖去。

10 摩西、亞倫就招聚會眾到磐石前。摩西說：「你們這些背叛的人聽我說：我們定要［must we］為你們使水從這磐石中流出來嗎？」

11 摩西舉手，用杖擊打磐石兩下，就有許多水流出來，會眾和他們的牲畜都喝了。

12 耶和華對摩西、亞倫說：「因為你們不信我，不在以色列人眼前尊我為聖，所以你們必不得領這會眾進我所賜給他們的地去。」

13 這水名叫米利巴水，是因以色列人向耶和華爭鬧，耶和華就在他們面前顯為聖。

14 摩西從加低斯差遣使者去見以東王，說：「你的兄弟以色列［brother Israel］這樣說：『我們所遭遇的一切艱難，你是知道的［Thou knowest］；

15 就是我們的列祖怎樣［How］下到埃及，我們曾［have］在埃及久住；埃及人苦待我們和我們的列祖［vexed us, and our fathers］，

16 我們哀求耶和華的時候，他聽了我們的聲音，差遣天使［angel］把我們從埃及領出來。這事你都知道。如今，我們在你邊界上的城加低斯。

17 求你容我們從你的地經過。我們不走田間和葡萄園，也不喝井裏的水，只走王的大道［king's high way］，不偏左右，直到過了你的境界』」。

18 以東王說：「你不可從我的地經過，免得我帶刀出去攻擊你。」

19 以色列人對他［unto him］說：「我們要走大道上去；我們和牲畜若喝你的水，必給你價值。不求別的，只求你容我們步行過去。」

20 他［he］說：「你［Thou］不可經過。」以東王［Edom］就率領許多人出來，要用強硬的手抵擋他［against him］。

21 這樣，以東王不肯容以色列［Israel］從他的境界過去；於是以色列［Israel］轉去，離開他。

22 以色列全會眾從加低斯起行，到了何珥山。

23 耶和華在附近以東邊界的何珥山上曉諭摩西、亞倫說：

24 「亞倫要歸到他本民［his people］那裏。他必不得入我所賜給以色列人的地；因為在米利巴水，你們違背了我的命。

25 你帶亞倫和他的兒子以利亞撒上何珥山，

26 把亞倫的聖衣脫下來，給他的兒子以利亞撒穿上；亞倫必死在那裏，歸他列祖。」

27 摩西就照耶和華所吩咐的行。三人當著會眾的眼前上了何珥山。

28 摩西把亞倫的聖衣脫下來，給他的兒子以利亞撒穿上，亞倫就死在山頂那裏。於是摩西和以利亞撒下了山。

29 全會眾，就是以色列全家，見亞倫已經死了，便都為亞倫哀哭了三十天。

Numbers

Chapter 20

1 THEN came the children of Israel, the whole congregation, into the wilderness of Zin in the first month; and the people abode in Rakim; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.

2 And there was no water for the people to drink; and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.

3 And the people quarreled with Moses and with Aaron, saying, Would God that we had died with the death with which our brethren died before the LORD!

4 Why have you brought the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die here?

5 And why have you made us to come up out of Egypt, and have brought us to this evil place? It is no place for grain, or for wine or figs or pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.

6 Then Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces; and the glory of the LORD appeared to them.

7 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

8 Take the rod, and gather the assembly together, you and Aaron your brother, and speak over the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth its water, and you shall bring forth to them water out of the rock, so that you shall give the congregation and their cattle drink.

9 And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him.

10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said to them, Hear now, you rebels; out of this rock we will bring forth water for you.

11 And Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock with his rod twice; and the water came out abundantly, and the people drank and all their cattle also.

12 And the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, Because you did not believe in me, to sanctify me in the presence of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

13 These are the waters of Mesotha (contention); because the children of Israel strove before the LORD, and he was sanctified among them.

14 And Moses sent messengers from Rakim to the king of Edom, saying, Thus says your brother Israel: You know all the trouble that has befallen us,

15 How our fathers went down into Egypt, and we have dwelt in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians oppressed us and our fathers;

16 And when we prayed before the LORD, he heard our voice and sent an angel, and has brought us forth out of Egypt; and, behold, we are in Rakim, a town in the uttermost of your border;

17 Now let us pass through your land; we will not pass through the fields, nor through the vineyards, neither will we drink the water of the wells; but we will go by the king's highway, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left until we have passed your borders.

18 But Edom said to him, You shall not pass through my border, lest I come out against you with the sword.

19 And the children of Israel said to him, We will go up by the highway; and if we and our cattle drink of your water, then we will pay for it; we will only pass through it on foot.

20 But Edom said. You shall not pass through. And Edom came out against them with a strong force, and with a strong hand.

21 Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border; wherefore Israel turned away from him.

22 And the children of Israel, the whole congregation, journeyed from Rakim, and came to mount Hot.

23 And the LORD said to Moses and Aaron at mount Hor by the border of the land of Edom,

24 Aaron shall be gathered to his people for he shall not enter into the land which I have given to the children of Israel, because you rebelled against my word at the water of Mesotha, and did not sanctify me at the water in their presence.

25 Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to mount Hor;

26 And strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron shall be gathered unto his people and shall die there.

27 And Moses did as the LORD commanded him; and they went up into mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.

28 And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there on mount Hot; and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.

29 And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron thirty days, all the house of Israel.

1 THEN came the children of Israel, the whole congregation, into the wilderness of Zin in the first month; and the people abode in Rakim; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.

2 And there was no water for the people to drink; and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.

3 百姓向摩西爭鬧說：「我們的弟兄曾死在耶和華面前，情願神使我們［Would God that we］與他們同死。

3 And the people quarreled with Moses and with Aaron, saying, Would God that we had died with the death with which our brethren died before the LORD!

4 你們為何把耶和華的會眾領到這曠野、使我們和牲畜都死在這裏呢？

4 Why have you brought the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die here?

5 你們為何逼著我們出埃及、領我們到這壞地方呢？這地方不好撒種，也沒有無花果樹、葡萄樹、石榴樹，又沒有水喝。」

5 And why have you made us to come up out of Egypt, and have brought us to this evil place? It is no place for grain, or for wine or figs or pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.

6 摩西、亞倫離開會眾，到會幕門口，臉［faces］伏在地；耶和華的榮光向他們顯現。

6 Then Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces; and the glory of the LORD appeared to them.

7 耶和華曉諭摩西說：

7 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

8 「你拿著杖去，和你的哥哥亞倫招聚會眾，在他們眼前吩咐磐石發出水來，水就從磐石流出，給會眾和他們的牲畜喝。」

8 Take the rod, and gather the assembly together, you and Aaron your brother, and speak over the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth its water, and you shall bring forth to them water out of the rock, so that you shall give the congregation and their cattle drink.

9 於是摩西照耶和華所吩咐的，從耶和華面前取了杖去。

9 And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him.

10 摩西、亞倫就招聚會眾到磐石前。摩西說：「你們這些背叛的人聽我說：我們定要［must we］為你們使水從這磐石中流出來嗎？」

10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said to them, Hear now, you rebels; out of this rock we will bring forth water for you.

11 摩西舉手，用杖擊打磐石兩下，就有許多水流出來，會眾和他們的牲畜都喝了。

11 And Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock with his rod twice; and the water came out abundantly, and the people drank and all their cattle also.

12 耶和華對摩西、亞倫說：「因為你們不信我，不在以色列人眼前尊我為聖，所以你們必不得領這會眾進我所賜給他們的地去。」

12 And the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, Because you did not believe in me, to sanctify me in the presence of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

13 這水名叫米利巴水，是因以色列人向耶和華爭鬧，耶和華就在他們面前顯為聖。

13 These are the waters of Mesotha (contention); because the children of Israel strove before the LORD, and he was sanctified among them.

14 摩西從加低斯差遣使者去見以東王，說：「你的兄弟以色列［brother Israel］這樣說：『我們所遭遇的一切艱難，你是知道的［Thou knowest］；

14 And Moses sent messengers from Rakim to the king of Edom, saying, Thus says your brother Israel: You know all the trouble that has befallen us,

15 就是我們的列祖怎樣［How］下到埃及，我們曾［have］在埃及久住；埃及人苦待我們和我們的列祖［vexed us, and our fathers］，

15 How our fathers went down into Egypt, and we have dwelt in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians oppressed us and our fathers;

16 我們哀求耶和華的時候，他聽了我們的聲音，差遣天使［angel］把我們從埃及領出來。這事你都知道。如今，我們在你邊界上的城加低斯。

16 And when we prayed before the LORD, he heard our voice and sent an angel, and has brought us forth out of Egypt; and, behold, we are in Rakim, a town in the uttermost of your border;

17 求你容我們從你的地經過。我們不走田間和葡萄園，也不喝井裏的水，只走王的大道［king's high way］，不偏左右，直到過了你的境界』」。

17 Now let us pass through your land; we will not pass through the fields, nor through the vineyards, neither will we drink the water of the wells; but we will go by the king's highway, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left until we have passed your borders.

18 以東王說：「你不可從我的地經過，免得我帶刀出去攻擊你。」

18 But Edom said to him, You shall not pass through my border, lest I come out against you with the sword.

19 以色列人對他［unto him］說：「我們要走大道上去；我們和牲畜若喝你的水，必給你價值。不求別的，只求你容我們步行過去。」

19 And the children of Israel said to him, We will go up by the highway; and if we and our cattle drink of your water, then we will pay for it; we will only pass through it on foot.

20 他［he］說：「你［Thou］不可經過。」以東王［Edom］就率領許多人出來，要用強硬的手抵擋他［against him］。

20 But Edom said. You shall not pass through. And Edom came out against them with a strong force, and with a strong hand.

21 這樣，以東王不肯容以色列［Israel］從他的境界過去；於是以色列［Israel］轉去，離開他。

21 Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border; wherefore Israel turned away from him.

22 以色列全會眾從加低斯起行，到了何珥山。

22 And the children of Israel, the whole congregation, journeyed from Rakim, and came to mount Hot.

23 耶和華在附近以東邊界的何珥山上曉諭摩西、亞倫說：

23 And the LORD said to Moses and Aaron at mount Hor by the border of the land of Edom,

24 「亞倫要歸到他本民［his people］那裏。他必不得入我所賜給以色列人的地；因為在米利巴水，你們違背了我的命。

24 Aaron shall be gathered to his people for he shall not enter into the land which I have given to the children of Israel, because you rebelled against my word at the water of Mesotha, and did not sanctify me at the water in their presence.

25 你帶亞倫和他的兒子以利亞撒上何珥山，

25 Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to mount Hor;

26 把亞倫的聖衣脫下來，給他的兒子以利亞撒穿上；亞倫必死在那裏，歸他列祖。」

26 And strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron shall be gathered unto his people and shall die there.

27 摩西就照耶和華所吩咐的行。三人當著會眾的眼前上了何珥山。

27 And Moses did as the LORD commanded him; and they went up into mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.

28 摩西把亞倫的聖衣脫下來，給他的兒子以利亞撒穿上，亞倫就死在山頂那裏。於是摩西和以利亞撒下了山。

28 And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there on mount Hot; and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.

29 全會眾，就是以色列全家，見亞倫已經死了，便都為亞倫哀哭了三十天。

29 And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron thirty days, all the house of Israel.
