Chapter 14

1 After3326 two1417 days2250 was2258 the feast of the3588 passover,3957 and2532 of unleavened bread:106 and2532 the3588 chief priests749 and2532 the3588 scribes1122 sought2212 how4459 they might take2902 him846 by1722 craft,1388 and put him to death.615

2 But1161 they said,3004 Not3361 on1722 the3588 feast1859 day, lest3379 there be2071 an uproar2351 of the3588 people.2992

3 And2532 being5607 in1722 Bethany963 in1722 the3588 house3614 of Simon4613 the3588 leper,3015 as he846 sat at meat,2621 there came2064 a woman1135 having2192 an alabaster box211 of ointment3464 of spikenard4101 3487 very precious;4185 and2532 she broke4937 the3588 box,211 and poured2708 it on2596 his846 head.2776

4 And1161 there were2258 some5100 that had indignation23 within4314 themselves,1438 and2532 said,3004 Why5101 was this3778 waste684 of the3588 ointment3464 made?1096

5 For1063 it5124 might have been1410 sold4097 for more than1883 three hundred5145 pence,1220 and2532 have been given1325 to the3588 poor.4434 And2532 they murmured against1690 her.846

6 And1161 Jesus2424 said,2036 Let her alone;863 846 why5101 trouble3930 2873 ye her?846 she hath wrought2038 a good2570 work2041 on1519 me.1691

7 For1063 ye have2192 the3588 poor4434 with3326 you1438 always,3842 and2532 whensoever3752 ye will2309 ye may1410 do4160 them846 good: 2095 but1161 me1691 ye have2192 not3756 always.3842

8 She hath done4160 what3739 she3778 could: 2192 she is come aforehand4301 to anoint3462 my3450 body4983 to1519 the3588 burying.1780

9 Verily281 I say3004 unto you,5213 Wheresoever3699 302 this5124 gospel2098 shall be preached2784 throughout1519 the3588 whole3650 world,2889 this also2532 that3739 she3778 hath done4160 shall be spoken of2980 for1519 a memorial3422 of her.846

10 And2532 Judas2455 Iscariot,2469 one1520 of the3588 twelve,1427 went565 unto4314 the3588 chief priests,749 to2443 betray3860 him846 unto them.846

11 And1161 when they3588 heard191 it, they were glad,5463 and2532 promised1861 to give1325 him846 money.694 And2532 he sought2212 how4459 he might conveniently2122 betray3860 him.846

12 And2532 the3588 first4413 day2250 of unleavened bread,106 when3753 they killed2380 the3588 passover,3957 his846 disciples3101 said3004 unto him,846 Where4226 wilt2309 thou that we go565 and prepare2090 that2443 thou mayest eat5315 the3588 passover?3957

13 And2532 he sendeth forth649 two1417 of his848 disciples,3101 and2532 saith3004 unto them,846 Go5217 ye into1519 the3588 city,4172 and2532 there shall meet528 you5213 a man444 bearing941 a pitcher2765 of water: 5204 follow190 him.846

14 And2532 wheresoever3699 1437 he shall go1525 say2036 ye to the3588 goodman of the house,3617 The3588 Master1320 saith,3004 Where4226 is2076 the3588 guestchamber,2646 where3699 I shall eat5315 the3588 passover3957 with3326 my3450 disciples?3101

15 And2532 he846 will show1166 you5213 a large3173 upper room508 furnished4766 and prepared: 2092 there1563 make ready2090 for us.2254

16 And2532 his846 disciples3101 went forth,1831 and2532 came2064 into1519 the3588 city,4172 and2532 found2147 as2531 he had said2036 unto them:846 and2532 they made ready2090 the3588 passover.3957

17 And2532 in the evening3798 he1096 cometh2064 with3326 the3588 twelve.1427

18 And2532 as they846 sat345 and2532 did eat,2068 Jesus2424 said,2036 Verily281 I say3004 unto you,5213 One1520 of1537 you5216 which eateth2068 with3326 me1700 shall betray3860 me.3165

19 And1161 they3588 began756 to be sorrowful,3076 and2532 to say3004 unto him846 one by one,1527 Is3385 it I?1473 and2532 another243 said, Is3385 it I?1473

20 And1161 he3588 answered611 and said2036 unto them,846 It is one1520 of1537 the3588 twelve,1427 that dippeth1686 with3326 me1700 in1519 the3588 dish.5165

21 The3588 Son5207 of man444 indeed3303 goeth,5217 as2531 it is written1125 of4012 him: 846 but1161 woe3759 to that1565 man444 by1223 whom3739 the3588 Son5207 of man444 is betrayed!3860 good2570 were2258 it846 for that1565 man444 if1487 he had never3756 been born.1080

22 And2532 as they846 did eat,2068 Jesus2424 took2983 bread,740 and blessed,2127 and broke2806 it, and2532 gave1325 to them,846 and2532 said,2036 Take,2983 eat: 5315 this5124 is2076 my3450 body.4983

23 And2532 he took2983 the3588 cup,4221 and when he had given thanks,2168 he gave1325 it to them:846 and2532 they all3956 drank4095 of1537 it.846

24 And2532 he said2036 unto them,846 This5124 is2076 my3450 blood129 of3588 the3588 new2537 testament,1242 which is shed1632 for4012 many.4183

25 Verily281 I say3004 unto you,5213 I will drink4095 no3364 more3765 of1537 the3588 fruit1081 of the3588 vine,288 until2193 that1565 day2250 that3752 I drink4095 it846 new2537 in1722 the3588 kingdom932 of God.2316

26 And2532 when they had sung a hymn,5214 they went out1831 into1519 the3588 mount3735 of Olives.1636

27 And2532 Jesus2424 saith3004 unto them,846 All3956 ye shall be offended4624 because of1722 me1698 1722 this5026 night: 3571 for3754 it is written,1125 I will smite3960 the3588 shepherd,4166 and2532 the3588 sheep4263 shall be scattered.1287

28 But235 after3326 that I am3165 risen,1453 I will go before4254 you5209 into1519 Galilee.1056

29 But1161 Peter4074 said5346 unto him,846 Although2532 1487 all3956 shall be offended,4624 yet235 will not3756 I.1473

30 And2532 Jesus2424 saith3004 unto him,846 Verily281 I say3004 unto thee,4671 That3754 this day,4594 even in1722 this5026 night,3571 before4250 the2228 cock220 crow5455 twice,1364 thou shalt deny533 me3165 thrice.5151

31 But1161 he3588 spake3004 the more3123 vehemently,1537 4053 If1437 I3165 should1163 die with4880 thee,4671 I will not deny thee in any wise.3364 533 4571 1161 Likewise5615 also2532 said3004 they all.3956

32 And2532 they came2064 to1519 a place5564 which3739 was named3686 Gethsemane:1068 and2532 he saith3004 to his848 disciples,3101 Sit2523 ye here,5602 while2193 I shall pray.4336

33 And2532 he taketh3880 with3326 him1438 Peter4074 and2532 James2385 and2532 John,2491 and2532 began756 to be sore amazed,1568 and2532 to be very heavy;85

34 And2532 saith3004 unto them,846 My3450 soul5590 is2076 exceeding sorrowful4036 unto2193 death: 2288 tarry3306 ye here,5602 and2532 watch.1127

35 And2532 he went forward4281 a little,3397 and fell4098 on1909 the3588 ground,1093 and2532 prayed4336 that,2443 if1487 it were2076 possible,1415 the3588 hour5610 might pass3928 from575 him.846

36 And2532 he said,3004 Abba,5 Father,3962 all things3956 are possible1415 unto thee;4671 take away3911 this5124 cup4221 from575 me: 1700 nevertheless235 not3756 what5101 I1473 will,2309 but235 what5101 thou4771 wilt.

37 And2532 he cometh,2064 and2532 findeth2147 them846 sleeping,2518 and2532 saith3004 unto Peter,4074 Simon,4613 sleepest2518 thou? couldest2480 not3756 thou watch1127 one3391 hour?5610

38 Watch1127 ye and2532 pray,4336 lest3363 ye enter1525 into1519 temptation.3986 The3588 spirit4151 truly3303 is ready,4289 but1161 the3588 flesh4561 is weak.772

39 And2532 again3825 he went away,565 and prayed,4336 and spake2036 the3588 same846 words.3056

40 And2532 when he returned,5290 he found2147 them846 asleep2518 again,3825 (for1063 their846 eyes3788 were2258 heavy,)916 neither2532 3756 wist1492 they what5101 to answer611 him.846

41 And2532 he cometh2064 the3588 third time,5154 and2532 saith3004 unto them,846 Sleep on2518 now,3063 and2532 take your rest;373 it is enough,566 the3588 hour5610 is come;2064 behold,2400 the3588 Son5207 of man444 is betrayed3860 into1519 the3588 hands5495 of sinners.268

42 Rise up,1453 let us go;71 lo,2400 he that betrayeth3860 me3165 is at hand.1448

43 And2532 immediately,2112 while he846 yet2089 spake,2980 cometh3854 Judas,2455 one1520 of the3588 twelve,1427 and2532 with3326 him846 a great4183 multitude3793 with3326 swords3162 and2532 staves,3586 from3844 the3588 chief priests749 and2532 the3588 scribes1122 and2532 the3588 elders.4245

44 And1161 he that betrayed3860 him846 had given1325 them846 a token,4953 saying,3004 Whomsoever3739 302 I shall kiss,5368 that same846 is2076 he; take2902 him,846 and2532 lead him away safely.520 806

45 And2532 as soon as he was come,2064 he goeth4334 straightway2112 to him,846 and saith,3004 Master,4461 master;4461 and2532 kissed2705 him.846

46 And1161 they3588 laid1911 their848 hands5495 on1909 him,846 and2532 took2902 him.846

47 And1161 one1520 of them that stood by3936 drew4685 a sword,3162 and smote3817 a servant1401 of the3588 high priest,749 and2532 cut off851 his846 ear.5621

48 And2532 Jesus2424 answered611 and said2036 unto them,846 Are ye come out,1831 as5613 against1909 a thief,3027 with3326 swords3162 and2532 with staves3586 to take4815 me?3165

49 I was2252 daily2596 2250 with4314 you5209 in1722 the3588 temple2411 teaching,1321 and2532 ye took2902 me3165 not: 3756 but235 2443 the3588 Scriptures1124 must be fulfilled.4137

50 And2532 they all3956 forsook863 him,846 and fled.5343

51 And2532 there followed190 him846 a1520 certain5100 young man,3495 having4016 a linen cloth4616 cast about1909 his naked1131 body; and2532 the3588 young men3495 laid hold on2902 him: 846

52 And1161 he3588 left2641 the3588 linen cloth,4616 and fled5343 from575 them846 naked.1131

53 And2532 they led Jesus away520 2424 to4314 the3588 high priest:749 and2532 with him846 were assembled4905 all3956 the3588 chief priests749 and2532 the3588 elders4245 and2532 the3588 scribes.1122

54 And2532 Peter4074 followed190 him846 afar off,575 3113 even2193 into1519 the3588 palace833 of the3588 high priest:749 and2532 he sat2258 4775 with3326 the3588 servants,5257 and2532 warmed2328 himself at4314 the3588 fire.5457

55 And1161 the3588 chief priests749 and2532 all3650 the3588 council4892 sought2212 for witness3141 against2596 Jesus2424 to put him to death;2289 846 and2532 found2147 none.3756

56 For1063 many4183 bare false witness5576 against2596 him,846 but2532 their846 witness3141 agreed not together.2258 3756 2470

57 And2532 there arose450 certain,5100 and bare false witness5576 against2596 him,846 saying,3004

58 We2249 heard191 him846 say,3004 I1473 will destroy2647 this5126 temple3485 that is made with hands,5499 and2532 within1223 three5140 days2250 I will build3618 another243 made without hands.886

59 But2532 neither3761 so3779 did their846 witness3141 agree together.2258 2470

60 And2532 the3588 high priest749 stood up450 in1519 the3588 midst,3319 and asked1905 Jesus,2424 saying,3004 3756 Answerest611 thou nothing?3762 what5101 is it which these3778 witness against2649 thee?4675

61 But1161 he3588 held his peace,4623 and2532 answered611 nothing.3762 Again3825 the3588 high priest749 asked1905 him,846 and2532 said3004 unto him,846 Art1488 thou4771 the3588 Christ,5547 the3588 Son5207 of the3588 Blessed?2128

62 And1161 Jesus2424 said,2036 I1473 am: 1510 and2532 ye shall see3700 the3588 Son5207 of man444 sitting2521 on1537 the right hand1188 of power,1411 and2532 coming2064 in3326 the3588 clouds3507 of heaven.3772

63 Then1161 the3588 high priest749 rent1284 his848 clothes,5509 and saith,3004 What5101 need2192 5532 we any further2089 witnesses?3144

64 Ye have heard191 the3588 blasphemy:988 what5101 think5316 ye?5213 And1161 they3588 all3956 condemned2632 him846 to be1511 guilty1777 of death.2288

65 And2532 some5100 began756 to spit on1716 him,846 and2532 to cover4028 his846 face,4383 and2532 to buffet2852 him,846 and2532 to say3004 unto him,846 Prophesy:4395 and2532 the3588 servants5257 did strike906 him846 with the palms of their hands.4475

66 And2532 as Peter4074 was5607 beneath2736 in1722 the3588 palace,833 there cometh2064 one3391 of the3588 maids3814 of the3588 high priest: 749

67 And2532 when she saw1492 Peter4074 warming2328 himself, she looked upon1689 him,846 and said,3004 And2532 thou4771 also wast2258 with3326 Jesus2424 of Nazareth.3479

68 But1161 he3588 denied,720 saying,3004 I know1492 not,3756 neither3761 understand1987 I what5101 thou4771 sayest.3004 And2532 he went1831 out1854 into1519 the3588 porch;4259 and2532 the cock220 crew.5455

69 And2532 a maid3814 saw1492 him846 again,3825 and began756 to say3004 to them that stood by,3936 This3778 is2076 one of1537 them.846

70 And1161 he3588 denied720 it again.3825 And2532 a little3397 after,3326 they that stood by3936 said3004 again3825 to Peter,4074 Surely230 thou art1488 one of1537 them:846 for1063 thou2532 art1488 a Galilaean,1057 and2532 thy4675 speech2981 agreeth3662 thereto.

71 But1161 he3588 began756 to curse332 and2532 to swear,3660 saying, I know1492 not3756 this5126 man444 of whom3739 ye speak.3004

72 And2532 the1537 second time1208 the cock220 crew.5455 And2532 Peter4074 called to mind363 the3588 word4487 that3739 Jesus2424 said2036 unto him,846 Before4250 the cock220 crow5455 twice,1364 thou shalt deny533 me3165 thrice.5151 And2532 when he thought thereon,1911 he wept.2799

Chapter 14

1 AFTER two days, the passover of un leavened bread was to come; and the high priests and the scribes were seeking how to seize him by craft and kill him.

2 And they said, Not during the feast, for it may cause a riot among the people.

3 When he was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, while he reclined, there came a woman who had with her an alabaster vessel of perfume of pure nard, of good quality and very expensive; and she opened it, and poured it upon the head of Jesus.

4 But there were some men of the disciples who were displeased within themselves, and said, Why was this perfume wasted?

5 For it could have been sold for more than three hundred pennies and given to the poor. So they annoyed her.

6 Jesus said, Leave her alone; why do you trouble her? She has done a good work to me.

7 For you always have the poor with you, and when you wish, you can do good to them; but I am not always with you.

8 But this one has done it with what she had; she anointed my body in advance as for the burial.

9 And truly I say to you, Wherever this my gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told as a memorial to her.

10 Then Judas of Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the high priests, to deliver Jesus to them.

11 When they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. So he sought an opportunity to deliver him.

12 On the first day of unleavened bread, on which the Jews sacrifice the passover, his disciples said to him, Where do you wish that we go and prepare the passover for you to eat?

13 And he sent two of his disciples, and said to them, Go to the city, and behold you will meet a man carrying a vessel of water; follow him.

14 And wherever he enters, say to the owner of the house, Our master says, Where is the guestchamber, where I may eat the passover with my disciples?

15 And he will show you a large upper room furnished and prepared; there make ready for us.

16 And his disciples went out and came to the city, and they found just as he had told them; and they prepared the passover.

17 And when it was evening, he came with his twelve.

18 And when they were reclining and eating, Jesus said, Truly I say to you, One of you who eats with me, he will betray me.

19 They began to feel troubled, and said to him one by one, Why, is it I?

20 But he said to them, One of the twelve who dips with me in the dish.

21 The Son of man will go, as it is written of him; but woe to the man by whose hand the Son of man is betrayed! It would have been far better for that man never to have been born.

22 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and he broke it, and gave it to them, and he said to them, Take it; this is my body.

23 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and he blessed it and gave it to them, and they all drank of it.

24 And he said to them, This is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for the sake of many.

25 Truly I say to you, I shall not drink again of the fruit of the vine, until that day in which I drink it new in the kingdom of God.

26 And they offered praise, and went out to the Mount of Olives.

27 Then Jesus said to them, All of you will deny me this night; for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and his sheep will scatter.

28 But when I am risen, I will be in Galilee before you.

29 Peter said to him, Even if all of them should deny you, but not I.

30 Jesus said to him, Truly I say to you, that you, today, in this night, before the cock crows twice, will deny me three times.

31 But he kept telling him still more, Even if I must die with you, I will never deny you, O my Lord. All the disciples said also, like him.

32 And they came to a place, which is called Gethsemane; and he said to his disciples, Sit down here, while I pray.

33 And he took with him Peter and James and John, and he began to be sorrowful and oppressed.

34 And he said to them, My soul is sorrowful even to death; wait for me and keep awake.

35 And he went a little aside, and fell on the ground, and prayed, that if it were possible, the hour might pass away from him.

36 And he said, Abba, Ave, O Father, my Father, you can do everything; make this cup pass away from me; but not according to my will, but yours.

37 And he came and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, Simon, are you sleeping? Could you not keep awake even for one hour?

38 Awake and pray, that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing and ready, but the body is weak.

39 He went away again and prayed, and he said the same word.

40 And he returned again, and came and found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy; and they did not know what to say to him.

41 Then he came the third time, and said to them, From now on sleep and get rest; the end has arrived and the hour has come; and behold, the Son of man will be delivered into the hands of sinners.

42 Arise, let us go; behold, he who is to deliver me is near.

43 While he was speaking, Judas of Iscariot, one of the twelve, came and many other people, with swords and staves, from the high priests and the scribes and the elders.

44 And the traitor who was to do the delivering gave them a sign, and he said, He whom I kiss, it is he; seize him carefully, and take him away.

45 And immediately he drew near and said to him, My teacher, my teacher; and he kissed him.

46 And they laid hands on him and arrested him.

47 But one of those who stood by drew a sword, and struck it at the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.

48 And Jesus answered and said to them, Have you come out against me as against a bandit, with swords and staves to arrest me?

49 I was with you every day teaching in the temple, and you did not arrest me; but this has happened so that the scriptures might be fulfilled.

50 Then his disciples left him and fled.

51 And a young man was following him, naked, with a loin cloth around him; and they seized him.

52 But he left the loin cloth, and fled naked.

53 And they took Jesus to Caiaphas the high priest; and there gathered to him all the high priests and the scribes and the elders.

54 But Simon followed him afar off, up to the courtyard of the high priest; and he sat with the servants, warming himself before the fire.

55 The high priests and the whole council were seeking testimony against Jesus so that they might put him to death; but they could not find it.

56 For even though many testified against him, their testimonies were not worthy.

57 Then some men, who were false witnesses, stood up against him, and said,

58 We heard him say, I will tear down this temple which is made with hands, and in three days I will build another which is not made with hands.

59 But even this testimony was not worthy.

60 Then the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, and said, Do you not answer? What do these testify against you?

61 But Jesus was silent, and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, and said, Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?

62 Jesus said to him, I am; and you will see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming upon the clouds of the sky.

63 Then the high priest tore his robe, and said, Why therefore do we need witnesses?

64 Behold, you have heard blasphemy from his own mouth; what do you think? And they all decided that he is guilty of death.

65 Then some of the men began to spit in his face, and to cover his face, and to strike him on his head, saying, Prophesy; and the soldiers smote him on his cheeks.

66 And when Simon was below in the courtyard, there came a young maidservant of the high priest;

67 And she saw him warming himself, and looked at him, and said to him, You also were with Jesus the Nazarene.

68 But he denied it and said, I do not understand what you are saying. Then he went out to the porch, and the cock crowed.

69 And the same young maid saw him, and began to say to those who stood by, This one also is one of them.

70 But he denied it again. And a little later, those who stood by said to Peter, Truly you are one of them, for you also are a Galilean, and even your speech is like theirs.

71 And he began to curse and to swear, I do not know this man of whom you speak.

72 At that very hour the cock crowed the second time. And Simon remembered the word that Jesus said to him, Before the cock crows twice you will deny me thrice. And then he began to weep. Jesus before Caiaphas.

1 AFTER two days, the passover of un leavened bread was to come; and the high priests and the scribes were seeking how to seize him by craft and kill him.

2 But1161 they said,3004 Not3361 on1722 the3588 feast1859 day, lest3379 there be2071 an uproar2351 of the3588 people.2992

2 And they said, Not during the feast, for it may cause a riot among the people.

3 When he was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, while he reclined, there came a woman who had with her an alabaster vessel of perfume of pure nard, of good quality and very expensive; and she opened it, and poured it upon the head of Jesus.

4 And1161 there were2258 some5100 that had indignation23 within4314 themselves,1438 and2532 said,3004 Why5101 was this3778 waste684 of the3588 ointment3464 made?1096

4 But there were some men of the disciples who were displeased within themselves, and said, Why was this perfume wasted?

5 For1063 it5124 might have been1410 sold4097 for more than1883 three hundred5145 pence,1220 and2532 have been given1325 to the3588 poor.4434 And2532 they murmured against1690 her.846

5 For it could have been sold for more than three hundred pennies and given to the poor. So they annoyed her.

6 And1161 Jesus2424 said,2036 Let her alone;863 846 why5101 trouble3930 2873 ye her?846 she hath wrought2038 a good2570 work2041 on1519 me.1691

6 Jesus said, Leave her alone; why do you trouble her? She has done a good work to me.

7 For1063 ye have2192 the3588 poor4434 with3326 you1438 always,3842 and2532 whensoever3752 ye will2309 ye may1410 do4160 them846 good: 2095 but1161 me1691 ye have2192 not3756 always.3842

7 For you always have the poor with you, and when you wish, you can do good to them; but I am not always with you.

8 She hath done4160 what3739 she3778 could: 2192 she is come aforehand4301 to anoint3462 my3450 body4983 to1519 the3588 burying.1780

8 But this one has done it with what she had; she anointed my body in advance as for the burial.

9 And truly I say to you, Wherever this my gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told as a memorial to her.

10 And2532 Judas2455 Iscariot,2469 one1520 of the3588 twelve,1427 went565 unto4314 the3588 chief priests,749 to2443 betray3860 him846 unto them.846

10 Then Judas of Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the high priests, to deliver Jesus to them.

11 And1161 when they3588 heard191 it, they were glad,5463 and2532 promised1861 to give1325 him846 money.694 And2532 he sought2212 how4459 he might conveniently2122 betray3860 him.846

11 When they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. So he sought an opportunity to deliver him.

12 On the first day of unleavened bread, on which the Jews sacrifice the passover, his disciples said to him, Where do you wish that we go and prepare the passover for you to eat?

13 And2532 he sendeth forth649 two1417 of his848 disciples,3101 and2532 saith3004 unto them,846 Go5217 ye into1519 the3588 city,4172 and2532 there shall meet528 you5213 a man444 bearing941 a pitcher2765 of water: 5204 follow190 him.846

13 And he sent two of his disciples, and said to them, Go to the city, and behold you will meet a man carrying a vessel of water; follow him.

14 And wherever he enters, say to the owner of the house, Our master says, Where is the guestchamber, where I may eat the passover with my disciples?

15 And2532 he846 will show1166 you5213 a large3173 upper room508 furnished4766 and prepared: 2092 there1563 make ready2090 for us.2254

15 And he will show you a large upper room furnished and prepared; there make ready for us.

16 And2532 his846 disciples3101 went forth,1831 and2532 came2064 into1519 the3588 city,4172 and2532 found2147 as2531 he had said2036 unto them:846 and2532 they made ready2090 the3588 passover.3957

16 And his disciples went out and came to the city, and they found just as he had told them; and they prepared the passover.

17 And2532 in the evening3798 he1096 cometh2064 with3326 the3588 twelve.1427

17 And when it was evening, he came with his twelve.

18 And2532 as they846 sat345 and2532 did eat,2068 Jesus2424 said,2036 Verily281 I say3004 unto you,5213 One1520 of1537 you5216 which eateth2068 with3326 me1700 shall betray3860 me.3165

18 And when they were reclining and eating, Jesus said, Truly I say to you, One of you who eats with me, he will betray me.

19 And1161 they3588 began756 to be sorrowful,3076 and2532 to say3004 unto him846 one by one,1527 Is3385 it I?1473 and2532 another243 said, Is3385 it I?1473

19 They began to feel troubled, and said to him one by one, Why, is it I?

20 And1161 he3588 answered611 and said2036 unto them,846 It is one1520 of1537 the3588 twelve,1427 that dippeth1686 with3326 me1700 in1519 the3588 dish.5165

20 But he said to them, One of the twelve who dips with me in the dish.

21 The Son of man will go, as it is written of him; but woe to the man by whose hand the Son of man is betrayed! It would have been far better for that man never to have been born.

22 And2532 as they846 did eat,2068 Jesus2424 took2983 bread,740 and blessed,2127 and broke2806 it, and2532 gave1325 to them,846 and2532 said,2036 Take,2983 eat: 5315 this5124 is2076 my3450 body.4983

22 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and he broke it, and gave it to them, and he said to them, Take it; this is my body.

23 And2532 he took2983 the3588 cup,4221 and when he had given thanks,2168 he gave1325 it to them:846 and2532 they all3956 drank4095 of1537 it.846

23 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and he blessed it and gave it to them, and they all drank of it.

24 And2532 he said2036 unto them,846 This5124 is2076 my3450 blood129 of3588 the3588 new2537 testament,1242 which is shed1632 for4012 many.4183

24 And he said to them, This is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for the sake of many.

25 Truly I say to you, I shall not drink again of the fruit of the vine, until that day in which I drink it new in the kingdom of God.

26 And2532 when they had sung a hymn,5214 they went out1831 into1519 the3588 mount3735 of Olives.1636

26 And they offered praise, and went out to the Mount of Olives.

27 Then Jesus said to them, All of you will deny me this night; for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and his sheep will scatter.

28 But235 after3326 that I am3165 risen,1453 I will go before4254 you5209 into1519 Galilee.1056

28 But when I am risen, I will be in Galilee before you.

29 But1161 Peter4074 said5346 unto him,846 Although2532 1487 all3956 shall be offended,4624 yet235 will not3756 I.1473

29 Peter said to him, Even if all of them should deny you, but not I.

30 Jesus said to him, Truly I say to you, that you, today, in this night, before the cock crows twice, will deny me three times.

31 But1161 he3588 spake3004 the more3123 vehemently,1537 4053 If1437 I3165 should1163 die with4880 thee,4671 I will not deny thee in any wise.3364 533 4571 1161 Likewise5615 also2532 said3004 they all.3956

31 But he kept telling him still more, Even if I must die with you, I will never deny you, O my Lord. All the disciples said also, like him.

32 And2532 they came2064 to1519 a place5564 which3739 was named3686 Gethsemane:1068 and2532 he saith3004 to his848 disciples,3101 Sit2523 ye here,5602 while2193 I shall pray.4336

32 And they came to a place, which is called Gethsemane; and he said to his disciples, Sit down here, while I pray.

33 And2532 he taketh3880 with3326 him1438 Peter4074 and2532 James2385 and2532 John,2491 and2532 began756 to be sore amazed,1568 and2532 to be very heavy;85

33 And he took with him Peter and James and John, and he began to be sorrowful and oppressed.

34 And2532 saith3004 unto them,846 My3450 soul5590 is2076 exceeding sorrowful4036 unto2193 death: 2288 tarry3306 ye here,5602 and2532 watch.1127

34 And he said to them, My soul is sorrowful even to death; wait for me and keep awake.

35 And2532 he went forward4281 a little,3397 and fell4098 on1909 the3588 ground,1093 and2532 prayed4336 that,2443 if1487 it were2076 possible,1415 the3588 hour5610 might pass3928 from575 him.846

35 And he went a little aside, and fell on the ground, and prayed, that if it were possible, the hour might pass away from him.

36 And he said, Abba, Ave, O Father, my Father, you can do everything; make this cup pass away from me; but not according to my will, but yours.

37 And2532 he cometh,2064 and2532 findeth2147 them846 sleeping,2518 and2532 saith3004 unto Peter,4074 Simon,4613 sleepest2518 thou? couldest2480 not3756 thou watch1127 one3391 hour?5610

37 And he came and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, Simon, are you sleeping? Could you not keep awake even for one hour?

38 Watch1127 ye and2532 pray,4336 lest3363 ye enter1525 into1519 temptation.3986 The3588 spirit4151 truly3303 is ready,4289 but1161 the3588 flesh4561 is weak.772

38 Awake and pray, that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing and ready, but the body is weak.

39 And2532 again3825 he went away,565 and prayed,4336 and spake2036 the3588 same846 words.3056

39 He went away again and prayed, and he said the same word.

40 And2532 when he returned,5290 he found2147 them846 asleep2518 again,3825 (for1063 their846 eyes3788 were2258 heavy,)916 neither2532 3756 wist1492 they what5101 to answer611 him.846

40 And he returned again, and came and found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy; and they did not know what to say to him.

41 Then he came the third time, and said to them, From now on sleep and get rest; the end has arrived and the hour has come; and behold, the Son of man will be delivered into the hands of sinners.

42 Rise up,1453 let us go;71 lo,2400 he that betrayeth3860 me3165 is at hand.1448

42 Arise, let us go; behold, he who is to deliver me is near.

43 While he was speaking, Judas of Iscariot, one of the twelve, came and many other people, with swords and staves, from the high priests and the scribes and the elders.

44 And1161 he that betrayed3860 him846 had given1325 them846 a token,4953 saying,3004 Whomsoever3739 302 I shall kiss,5368 that same846 is2076 he; take2902 him,846 and2532 lead him away safely.520 806

44 And the traitor who was to do the delivering gave them a sign, and he said, He whom I kiss, it is he; seize him carefully, and take him away.

45 And2532 as soon as he was come,2064 he goeth4334 straightway2112 to him,846 and saith,3004 Master,4461 master;4461 and2532 kissed2705 him.846

45 And immediately he drew near and said to him, My teacher, my teacher; and he kissed him.

46 And1161 they3588 laid1911 their848 hands5495 on1909 him,846 and2532 took2902 him.846

46 And they laid hands on him and arrested him.

47 And1161 one1520 of them that stood by3936 drew4685 a sword,3162 and smote3817 a servant1401 of the3588 high priest,749 and2532 cut off851 his846 ear.5621

47 But one of those who stood by drew a sword, and struck it at the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.

48 And2532 Jesus2424 answered611 and said2036 unto them,846 Are ye come out,1831 as5613 against1909 a thief,3027 with3326 swords3162 and2532 with staves3586 to take4815 me?3165

48 And Jesus answered and said to them, Have you come out against me as against a bandit, with swords and staves to arrest me?

49 I was2252 daily2596 2250 with4314 you5209 in1722 the3588 temple2411 teaching,1321 and2532 ye took2902 me3165 not: 3756 but235 2443 the3588 Scriptures1124 must be fulfilled.4137

49 I was with you every day teaching in the temple, and you did not arrest me; but this has happened so that the scriptures might be fulfilled.

50 And2532 they all3956 forsook863 him,846 and fled.5343

50 Then his disciples left him and fled.

51 And2532 there followed190 him846 a1520 certain5100 young man,3495 having4016 a linen cloth4616 cast about1909 his naked1131 body; and2532 the3588 young men3495 laid hold on2902 him: 846

51 And a young man was following him, naked, with a loin cloth around him; and they seized him.

52 And1161 he3588 left2641 the3588 linen cloth,4616 and fled5343 from575 them846 naked.1131

52 But he left the loin cloth, and fled naked.

53 And2532 they led Jesus away520 2424 to4314 the3588 high priest:749 and2532 with him846 were assembled4905 all3956 the3588 chief priests749 and2532 the3588 elders4245 and2532 the3588 scribes.1122

53 And they took Jesus to Caiaphas the high priest; and there gathered to him all the high priests and the scribes and the elders.

54 But Simon followed him afar off, up to the courtyard of the high priest; and he sat with the servants, warming himself before the fire.

55 And1161 the3588 chief priests749 and2532 all3650 the3588 council4892 sought2212 for witness3141 against2596 Jesus2424 to put him to death;2289 846 and2532 found2147 none.3756

55 The high priests and the whole council were seeking testimony against Jesus so that they might put him to death; but they could not find it.

56 For1063 many4183 bare false witness5576 against2596 him,846 but2532 their846 witness3141 agreed not together.2258 3756 2470

56 For even though many testified against him, their testimonies were not worthy.

57 And2532 there arose450 certain,5100 and bare false witness5576 against2596 him,846 saying,3004

57 Then some men, who were false witnesses, stood up against him, and said,

58 We2249 heard191 him846 say,3004 I1473 will destroy2647 this5126 temple3485 that is made with hands,5499 and2532 within1223 three5140 days2250 I will build3618 another243 made without hands.886

58 We heard him say, I will tear down this temple which is made with hands, and in three days I will build another which is not made with hands.

59 But2532 neither3761 so3779 did their846 witness3141 agree together.2258 2470

59 But even this testimony was not worthy.

60 And2532 the3588 high priest749 stood up450 in1519 the3588 midst,3319 and asked1905 Jesus,2424 saying,3004 3756 Answerest611 thou nothing?3762 what5101 is it which these3778 witness against2649 thee?4675

60 Then the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, and said, Do you not answer? What do these testify against you?

61 But1161 he3588 held his peace,4623 and2532 answered611 nothing.3762 Again3825 the3588 high priest749 asked1905 him,846 and2532 said3004 unto him,846 Art1488 thou4771 the3588 Christ,5547 the3588 Son5207 of the3588 Blessed?2128

61 But Jesus was silent, and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, and said, Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?

62 And1161 Jesus2424 said,2036 I1473 am: 1510 and2532 ye shall see3700 the3588 Son5207 of man444 sitting2521 on1537 the right hand1188 of power,1411 and2532 coming2064 in3326 the3588 clouds3507 of heaven.3772

62 Jesus said to him, I am; and you will see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming upon the clouds of the sky.

63 Then1161 the3588 high priest749 rent1284 his848 clothes,5509 and saith,3004 What5101 need2192 5532 we any further2089 witnesses?3144

63 Then the high priest tore his robe, and said, Why therefore do we need witnesses?

64 Ye have heard191 the3588 blasphemy:988 what5101 think5316 ye?5213 And1161 they3588 all3956 condemned2632 him846 to be1511 guilty1777 of death.2288

64 Behold, you have heard blasphemy from his own mouth; what do you think? And they all decided that he is guilty of death.

65 Then some of the men began to spit in his face, and to cover his face, and to strike him on his head, saying, Prophesy; and the soldiers smote him on his cheeks.

66 And2532 as Peter4074 was5607 beneath2736 in1722 the3588 palace,833 there cometh2064 one3391 of the3588 maids3814 of the3588 high priest: 749

66 And when Simon was below in the courtyard, there came a young maidservant of the high priest;

67 And2532 when she saw1492 Peter4074 warming2328 himself, she looked upon1689 him,846 and said,3004 And2532 thou4771 also wast2258 with3326 Jesus2424 of Nazareth.3479

67 And she saw him warming himself, and looked at him, and said to him, You also were with Jesus the Nazarene.

68 But1161 he3588 denied,720 saying,3004 I know1492 not,3756 neither3761 understand1987 I what5101 thou4771 sayest.3004 And2532 he went1831 out1854 into1519 the3588 porch;4259 and2532 the cock220 crew.5455

68 But he denied it and said, I do not understand what you are saying. Then he went out to the porch, and the cock crowed.

69 And2532 a maid3814 saw1492 him846 again,3825 and began756 to say3004 to them that stood by,3936 This3778 is2076 one of1537 them.846

69 And the same young maid saw him, and began to say to those who stood by, This one also is one of them.

70 But he denied it again. And a little later, those who stood by said to Peter, Truly you are one of them, for you also are a Galilean, and even your speech is like theirs.

71 But1161 he3588 began756 to curse332 and2532 to swear,3660 saying, I know1492 not3756 this5126 man444 of whom3739 ye speak.3004

71 And he began to curse and to swear, I do not know this man of whom you speak.

72 At that very hour the cock crowed the second time. And Simon remembered the word that Jesus said to him, Before the cock crows twice you will deny me thrice. And then he began to weep. Jesus before Caiaphas.
