|
1 THEN the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said, |
|
2 Who is this that gives counsel by words without knowledge? |
|
3 Gird up your loins now, like a valiant man; for I will question you, and you shall answer me. |
|
4 Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if you have understanding. |
|
5 Who has laid its measures, if you know? Or who has stretched the line upon it? |
|
6 Upon what are its limits resting? Or who laid the cornerstone thereof? |
|
7 When did I create the morning stars, and all the angels shouted for joy? |
|
8 Or who shut up the sea with gates, when it broke forth as if it had issued out of the womb? |
|
9 When I made the cloud the garment of the earth, and thick darkness a swaddling hand for it, |
|
10 And prescribed limits for it, and set bars and doors, |
|
11 And said, Thus far shall you come, but no farther; and here shall your proud waves be stayed? |
|
12 Have you commanded the dawn since your days began; or do you know the place of the morning; |
|
13 That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be thrown out of it? |
|
14 So that their bodies shall be turned into clay, and be thrown into a heap. |
|
15 The light of sinners shall be withheld, and the arm of the arrogant shall be broken. |
|
16 Have you entered into the depths of the sea? Or have you walked in the foundations of the deep? |
|
17 Have the gates of death been revealed to you? Or have you seen the gates of the shadow of death? |
|
18 Have you seen the whole breadth of the earth? Declare to me if you know it all. |
|
19 Where is the dwelling place of light, and where is the place of darkness? |
|
20 Do you know its borders and the path to its house? |
|
21 Do you remember when you were born, and do you know if you will live many days? |
|
22 Have you entered into the chambers of the snow? Or have you seen the storehouses of hail, |
|
23 Which are reserved against the time of distress, against the day of battle and war? |
|
24 Or in what manner is light distributed, and whence the wind comes forth upon the earth? |
|
25 Who causes a flash of lightning and a clap of thunder? |
|
26 Who causes it to rain on a land where no man is, in the wilderness where there is no inhabitant, |
|
27 To saturate every thicket, and cause the tender grass to spring up? |
|
28 Has the rain a father? Or who has begotten the drops of dew? |
|
29 Out of whose womb did the dew and ice come forth? And who begot the hoary frost of heaven? |
|
30 The waters are hardened like a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen. |
|
31 Can you stop the movement of the Pleiades, or have you seen the path of Orion? |
|
32 Can you bring forth Mazzaroth in its season? Or can you stand in the paths of Aldebaran? |
|
33 Do you know the laws of the heavens? Or do you make ordinances for the earth? |
|
34 Can you lift up your voice to the clouds? Or can you cover them with abundance of waters? |
|
35 Can you send forth the lightnings, that they may go, and say to you. Here we are? |
|
36 Who has put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who has given vision to understanding? |
|
37 Who has numbered the clouds by his wisdom? And who has raised the pillars of heaven? |
|
38 Who has poured out soil upon the earth, and who has made the steep rocks? |
|
39 Who has given prey for the lion? Or filled the appetite of the young lions? |
|
40 Who has multiplied the beasts in the field? Or who has provided food for the raven? |
|
41 For its young ones cry to God, and faint for lack of food. |

3 Підпережи́ но ти сте́гна свої, як мужчи́на, а Я буду питати тебе, — ти ж Мені поясни! |
|
4 Де́ ти був, коли землю осно́вував Я? Розкажи, якщо маєш знання́! |
|
5 Хто осно́ви її положив, чи ти знаєш? Або хто́ розтягнув по ній шнура? |
|
6 У що підстави її позапу́щувані, або хто́ поклав камінь нарі́жний її, |
|
7 коли ра́зом співали всі зо́рі пора́нні та радісний о́крик здіймали всі Божі сини? |
|
8 І хто море воро́тами загороди́в, як воно виступа́ло, немов би з утро́би вихо́дило, |
|
9 коли хмари поклав Я за одіж йому, а імлу́ — за його пелюшки́, |
|
10 і призна́чив йому Я границю Свою та поставив засу́ва й воро́та, |
|
11 і сказав: „Аж досі ти ді́йдеш, не далі, і тут ось межа́ твоїх хвиль гордови́тих?“ |
|
12 Чи за своїх днів ти наказував ра́нкові? Чи досві́тній зорі́ показав її місце, |
|
13 щоб хапа́лась за кі́нці землі та поси́пались з неї безбожні? |
|
14 Земля змі́нюється, мов та глина печа́тки, і стають, немов о́діж, вони! |
|
15 І нехай від безбожних їх світло віді́йметься, а високе раме́но злама́ється! |
|
16 Чи ти схо́див коли аж до мо́рських джере́л, і чи ти перехо́джувався дном безодні? |
|
17 Чи для тебе відкриті були брами смерти, і чи бачив ти брами смерте́льної тіні? |
|
18 Чи широкість землі ти оглянув? Розкажи, якщо знаєш це все! |
|
19 Де́ та доро́га, що світло на ній пробуває? А те́мрява — де її місце, |
|
20 щоб узяти її до границі її, і щоб знати стежки́ її дому? |
|
21 Знаєш ти, бо тоді народився ж ти був, і велике число твоїх днів! |
|
22 Чи дохо́див коли ти до схо́ванок снігу, і схо́ванки граду ти бачив, |
|
23 які Я тримаю на час лихолі́ття, на день бо́ю й війни? |
|
24 Якою дорогою ді́литься вітер, розпоро́шується по землі вітере́ць? |
|
25 Хто для зливи прото́ку прові́в, а для громови́ці — дорогу, |
|
26 щоб дощи́ти на землю безлюдну, на пустиню, в якій чоловіка нема, |
|
27 щоб пустиню та пущу наси́чувати, і щоб забезпе́чити ви́хід траві? |
|
28 Чи є ба́тько в доща, чи хто кра́плі роси́ породи́в? |
|
29 Із чиєї утро́би лід вийшов, а і́ній небесний — хто його породив? |
|
30 Як камінь, тужа́віють води, а пове́рхня безо́дні ховається. |
|
31 Чи зв'яжеш ти за́в'язки Волосожа́ру, чи розв'я́жеш віжки́ в Оріо́на? |
|
32 Чи ви́ведеш ча́су свого Зодія́ка, чи Во́за з синами його попрова́диш? |
|
33 Чи ти знаєш уста́ви небе́с? Чи ти покладе́ш на землі їхню вла́ду? |
|
34 Чи піді́ймеш свій голос до хмар, — і багато води тебе вкриє? |
|
35 Чи бли́скавки ти посилаєш, і пі́дуть вони, й тобі скажуть „Ось ми“? |
|
36 Хто мудрість вкладає людині в нутро́? Або — хто́ дає се́рцеві розум? |
|
37 Хто мудрістю хмари зрахує, і хто може затримати небесні посу́ди, |
|
38 коли по́рох зливається в зли́вки, а кавалки злипаються? |
|
39 Чи здо́бич левиці ти зловиш, і заспоко́їш життя левчукі́в, |
|
40 як вони по лего́вищах ту́ляться, на ча́тах сидять по куща́х? |
|
41 Хто готує для кру́ка поживу його, як до Бога кричать його діти, як без ї́жі блукають вони? |
