Chapter 15

1 AND immediately in the morning the high priests took counsel together with the elders and the scribes and with the whole council; and they bound Jesus and took him away, and delivered him to Pilate the governor.

2 And Pilate asked him, Are you the King of the Jews? He answered and said to him, You say that.

3 And the high priests accused him of many things.

4 Then Pilate asked again and said to him, Do you not answer? see, how many are testifying against you.

5 But Jesus gave no answer, so that Pilate marvelled.

6 Now it was the custom on every feast to release to them one prisoner, whom they asked for.

7 There was one called Bar-Abbas, who was bound with those who made insurrection, and who had committed murder during the insurrection.

8 And the people cried out, and began to ask, to do for them according to the custom.

9 Pilate answered and said, Are you willing that I release to you the King of the Jews?

10 For Pilate knew that the high priests had delivered him because of envy.

11 But the high priests incited the people the more, that he should release Bar-Abbas to them.

12 Pilate said to them, What then do you wish me to do to this man whom you call ôthe King of the Jewsö?

13 And they cried out again, Crucify him!

14 Then Pilate said to them, What evil has he done? but they cried aloud the more, Crucify him!

15 Now Pilate wanted to do the will of the people; so he released Bar-Abbas to them, and he delivered to them Jesus, scourged, to be crucified.

16 Then the soldiers took him to the inner courtyard, which is the Praetorium; and they called together the whole company.

17 And they dressed him in purple, and wove a crown of thorns and put it on him.

18 And they began to salute him, Hail, O King of the Jews.

19 And they stuck him on his head with a reed, and spat on his face, and knelt on their knees and worshipped him.

20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple, and put on him his own clothes, and took him out to crucify him.

21 And they compelled one who was passing by, Simon the Cyrenian, who was coming from the field, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross.

22 And they brought him to Golgotha, a place which is interpreted The Skull.

23 And they gave him to drink wine mixed with myrrh; but he would not take it.

24 And when they had crucified him, they divided his clothes, and cast lots on them, what each man should take.

25 It was the third hour when they crucified him.

26 And the reason for his death was inscribed in writing, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

27 And they crucified with him two bandits, one on his right and one on his left.

28 And the scripture was fulfilled which said, He was reckoned with the wicked.

29 Even those who passed by blasphemed against him, nodding their heads and saying, O destroyer of the temple and builder of it in three days,

30 Deliver yourself and come down from the cross.

31 The high priests likewise were laughing among themselves, with the scribes, and saying, He saved others; but he cannot save himself.

32 ôO Christ, the King of Israel!ö let him now come down from the cross, so that we may see and believe in him. Even those who were crucified with him reproached him.

33 And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over all the land, until the ninth hour.

34 And at the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and said, Eli, Eli, Lmana, shabachthani! which means, My God, my God, for this I was kept!

35 Some of the men who were standing by, when they heard it, said, He called for Elijah.

36 And one ran and filled a sponge with vinegar, and tied it on a reed to give him a drink; and he said, Hush, let us see if Elijah will come to take him down.

37 But Jesus cried with a loud voice, and the end came.

38 And the door curtains of the temple were rent in two, from the top to the bottom.

39 And when the centurion, who stood by near him, saw that he cried out in this manner and passed away, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.

40 There were also women who were looking from afar, Mary of Magdala, and Mary the mother of James the young and of Joses, and Salome;

41 Who had followed him, when he was in Galilee, and ministered to him; and many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem.

42 And when it was Friday evening, which is before the sabbath,

43 There came Joseph of Arimathaea, an honorable counsellor, who was also waiting for the kingdom of God; and he dared and went to Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus.

44 But Pilate marvelled that he was already dead. So he called the centurion and asked him if he had died before the time.

45 And when he learned it, he gave the body to Joseph.

46 And Joseph bought linen, and took him down and wrapped him in it, and laid him in a tomb which was hewn in a rock; and he rolled a stone against the door of the tomb.

47 But Mary of Magdala and Mary the mother of Joses, saw where he was laid.

1 А первосвященики з ста́ршими й книжниками, та ввесь синедріо́н, зараз уранці, нараду вчинивши, зв'язали Ісуса, повели́ та й Пилатові видали.

2 А Пила́т запитався Його: „Чи Ти Цар Юдейський?“ А Він йому в відповідь каже: „Сам ти кажеш“.

3 А первосвященики мі́цно Його винува́тили.

4 Тоді Пилат зно́ву Його запитав і сказав: „Ти нічого не відповідаєш? Дивись, — як багато проти Тебе свідку́ють!“

5 А Ісус більш нічого не відповідав, так що Пилат дивувався.

6 На свято ж він їм відпускав був одно́го із в'я́знів, котро́го просили вони.

7 Був же один, що звався Вара́вва, ув'я́знений ра́зом із повста́нцями, які за повста́ння вчинили були душогубство.

8 Коли ж на́товп зібрався, він став просити Пила́та зробити, як він за́вжди робив їм.

9 Пилат же сказав їм у відповідь: „Хочете, — відпущу́ вам Царя Юдейського?“

10 Бо він знав, що Його через за́здрощі видали первосвященики.

11 А первосвященики на́товп підмовили, щоб краще пустив їм Вара́вву.

12 Пилат же промовив знов їм у відповідь: „А що ж я чинитиму з Тим, що Його ви Юдейським Царем називаєте?“

13 Вони ж стали кричати знов: „Розіпни́ Його!“

14 Пилат же сказав їм: „Яке ж зло вчинив Він?“ А вони ще сильніше кричали: „Розіпни́ Його!“

15 Пилат же хотів догодити наро́дові, — і відпустив їм Вара́вву. І видав Ісуса, збичува́вши, щоб ро́зп'ятий був.

16 Вояки ж повели́ Його до сере́дини двору, цебто в преторій, і цілий відділ скликають.

17 І вони зодягли Його в багряни́цю і, сплівши з терни́ни вінка, поклали на Нього.

18 І вітати Його зачали́: „Раді́й, Ца́рю Юдейський!“

19 І трости́ною по голові Його били, і плювали на Нього. І навколішки кидалися та вклонялись Йому.

20 І коли назнущалися з Нього, зняли́ з Нього багряни́цю, і наділи на Нього одежу Його. І Його повели́, щоб розп'я́сти Його.

21 І одного перехо́жого, що з поля вертався, Си́мона Кіріне́янина, батька Олександра та Ру́фа, змусили, щоб хреста Йому ніс.

22 І Його привели́ на місце Голго́фу, що значить „Черепо́вище“.

23 І давали Йому пити вина, із ми́ррою змішаного, але Він не прийня́в.

24 І Його розп'яли́, і „поділили одежу Його, кинувши же́реб про неї“, хто що ві́зьме.

25 Була́ ж третя година, як Його розп'яли́.

26 І був написаний на́пис провини Його: „Цар Юдейський“.

27 Тоді ро́зп'ято з Ним двох розбійників, — одно́го право́руч, і одно́го ліво́руч Його.

28 І збулося Писа́ння, що каже: „До злочи́нців Його зарахо́вано!“

29 А хто побіч прохо́див, то Його лихосло́вили, „голова́ми своїми хитали“ й казали: „Отак! Ти, що храма руйнуєш та за три дні будуєш, —

30 зійди із хреста, та спаси Самого Себе!“

31 Теж і первосвященики з книжниками глузува́ли й один до одного казали: „Він інших спасав, — а Самого Себе не може спасти!

32 Христос, Цар Ізраїлів, — нехай зі́йде тепер із хреста, щоб побачили ми та й увірували“. Навіть ті, що ра́зом із Ним були ро́зп'яті, насміхалися з Нього.

33 А як шоста година настала, то аж до години дев'ятої те́мрява стала по ці́лій землі.

34 О годині ж дев'ятій Ісус скрикнув голосом гучни́м та й вимовив: „Елої́, Елої́, — лама́ савахта́ні“, що в перекладі значить: „Боже Мій, Боже Мій, — на́що Мене Ти покинув?“

35 Дехто ж із тих, що стояли навколо, це почули й казали: „Ось Він кличе Іллю́!“

36 А один із них побіг, намочив губку о́цтом, настроми́в на трости́ну, і давав Йому пити й казав: „Чекайте, побачим, — чи при́йде Ілля́ Його зняти!“

37 А Ісус скрикнув голосом гучни́м, — і духа віддав!

38 І в храмі завіса розде́рлась надво́є, — від ве́рху аж додолу.

39 А сотник, що насу́проти Нього стояв, як побачив, що Він отак духа віддав, то промовив: „Чоловік Цей був справді Син Божий!“

40 Були ж і жінки́, що дивились здалека, між ними Марі́я Магдали́на, і Марія, мати Якова Молодшого та Йосі́ї, і Саломі́я,

41 що вони, як Він був у Галілеї, ходили за Ним та Йому прислуго́вували; і інших багато, що до Єрусалиму прийшли з Ним.

42 А коли настав вечір, — через те, що було́ Пригото́влення, цебто перед суботою, —

43 прийшов Йо́сип із Аримате́ї, радник поважний, що сам сподівавсь Царства Божого, і сміливо ввійшов до Пилата, — і просив тіла Ісусового.

44 А Пила́т здивувався, щоб Він міг уже вмерти. І, покликавши сотника, запитався його, чи давно вже Розп'я́тий помер.

45 І, дізнавшись від сотника, він подарував тіло Йо́сипові.

46 А Йо́сип купив полотно, і, знявши Його, обгорнув полотном та й покла́в Його в гро́бі, що в скелі був ви́січений. І каменя привалив до моги́льних дверей.

47 Марія ж Магдали́на й Марія, мати Йосієва, дивилися, де́ ховали Його.

1 AND immediately in the morning the high priests took counsel together with the elders and the scribes and with the whole council; and they bound Jesus and took him away, and delivered him to Pilate the governor.	1 А первосвященики з ста́ршими й книжниками, та ввесь синедріо́н, зараз уранці, нараду вчинивши, зв'язали Ісуса, повели́ та й Пилатові видали.
2 And Pilate asked him, Are you the King of the Jews? He answered and said to him, You say that.	2 А Пила́т запитався Його: „Чи Ти Цар Юдейський?“ А Він йому в відповідь каже: „Сам ти кажеш“.
3 And the high priests accused him of many things.	3 А первосвященики мі́цно Його винува́тили.
4 Then Pilate asked again and said to him, Do you not answer? see, how many are testifying against you.	4 Тоді Пилат зно́ву Його запитав і сказав: „Ти нічого не відповідаєш? Дивись, — як багато проти Тебе свідку́ють!“
5 But Jesus gave no answer, so that Pilate marvelled.	5 А Ісус більш нічого не відповідав, так що Пилат дивувався.

8 And the people cried out, and began to ask, to do for them according to the custom.	8 Коли ж на́товп зібрався, він став просити Пила́та зробити, як він за́вжди робив їм.
9 Pilate answered and said, Are you willing that I release to you the King of the Jews?	9 Пилат же сказав їм у відповідь: „Хочете, — відпущу́ вам Царя Юдейського?“
10 For Pilate knew that the high priests had delivered him because of envy.	10 Бо він знав, що Його через за́здрощі видали первосвященики.
11 But the high priests incited the people the more, that he should release Bar-Abbas to them.	11 А первосвященики на́товп підмовили, щоб краще пустив їм Вара́вву.
12 Pilate said to them, What then do you wish me to do to this man whom you call ôthe King of the Jewsö?	12 Пилат же промовив знов їм у відповідь: „А що ж я чинитиму з Тим, що Його ви Юдейським Царем називаєте?“
13 And they cried out again, Crucify him!	13 Вони ж стали кричати знов: „Розіпни́ Його!“
14 Then Pilate said to them, What evil has he done? but they cried aloud the more, Crucify him!	14 Пилат же сказав їм: „Яке ж зло вчинив Він?“ А вони ще сильніше кричали: „Розіпни́ Його!“
15 Now Pilate wanted to do the will of the people; so he released Bar-Abbas to them, and he delivered to them Jesus, scourged, to be crucified.	15 Пилат же хотів догодити наро́дові, — і відпустив їм Вара́вву. І видав Ісуса, збичува́вши, щоб ро́зп'ятий був.

20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple, and put on him his own clothes, and took him out to crucify him.	20 І коли назнущалися з Нього, зняли́ з Нього багряни́цю, і наділи на Нього одежу Його. І Його повели́, щоб розп'я́сти Його.

27 And they crucified with him two bandits, one on his right and one on his left.	27 Тоді ро́зп'ято з Ним двох розбійників, — одно́го право́руч, і одно́го ліво́руч Його.
28 And the scripture was fulfilled which said, He was reckoned with the wicked.	28 І збулося Писа́ння, що каже: „До злочи́нців Його зарахо́вано!“
29 Even those who passed by blasphemed against him, nodding their heads and saying, O destroyer of the temple and builder of it in three days,	29 А хто побіч прохо́див, то Його лихосло́вили, „голова́ми своїми хитали“ й казали: „Отак! Ти, що храма руйнуєш та за три дні будуєш, —
30 Deliver yourself and come down from the cross.	30 зійди із хреста, та спаси Самого Себе!“
31 The high priests likewise were laughing among themselves, with the scribes, and saying, He saved others; but he cannot save himself.	31 Теж і первосвященики з книжниками глузува́ли й один до одного казали: „Він інших спасав, — а Самого Себе не може спасти!
32 ôO Christ, the King of Israel!ö let him now come down from the cross, so that we may see and believe in him. Even those who were crucified with him reproached him.	32 Христос, Цар Ізраїлів, — нехай зі́йде тепер із хреста, щоб побачили ми та й увірували“. Навіть ті, що ра́зом із Ним були ро́зп'яті, насміхалися з Нього.
33 And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over all the land, until the ninth hour.	33 А як шоста година настала, то аж до години дев'ятої те́мрява стала по ці́лій землі.
34 And at the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and said, Eli, Eli, Lmana, shabachthani! which means, My God, my God, for this I was kept!	34 О годині ж дев'ятій Ісус скрикнув голосом гучни́м та й вимовив: „Елої́, Елої́, — лама́ савахта́ні“, що в перекладі значить: „Боже Мій, Боже Мій, — на́що Мене Ти покинув?“
35 Some of the men who were standing by, when they heard it, said, He called for Elijah.	35 Дехто ж із тих, що стояли навколо, це почули й казали: „Ось Він кличе Іллю́!“
36 And one ran and filled a sponge with vinegar, and tied it on a reed to give him a drink; and he said, Hush, let us see if Elijah will come to take him down.	36 А один із них побіг, намочив губку о́цтом, настроми́в на трости́ну, і давав Йому пити й казав: „Чекайте, побачим, — чи при́йде Ілля́ Його зняти!“
37 But Jesus cried with a loud voice, and the end came.	37 А Ісус скрикнув голосом гучни́м, — і духа віддав!
38 And the door curtains of the temple were rent in two, from the top to the bottom.	38 І в храмі завіса розде́рлась надво́є, — від ве́рху аж додолу.
39 And when the centurion, who stood by near him, saw that he cried out in this manner and passed away, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.	39 А сотник, що насу́проти Нього стояв, як побачив, що Він отак духа віддав, то промовив: „Чоловік Цей був справді Син Божий!“

41 Who had followed him, when he was in Galilee, and ministered to him; and many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem.	41 що вони, як Він був у Галілеї, ходили за Ним та Йому прислуго́вували; і інших багато, що до Єрусалиму прийшли з Ним.
42 And when it was Friday evening, which is before the sabbath,	42 А коли настав вечір, — через те, що було́ Пригото́влення, цебто перед суботою, —
43 There came Joseph of Arimathaea, an honorable counsellor, who was also waiting for the kingdom of God; and he dared and went to Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus.	43 прийшов Йо́сип із Аримате́ї, радник поважний, що сам сподівавсь Царства Божого, і сміливо ввійшов до Пилата, — і просив тіла Ісусового.
44 But Pilate marvelled that he was already dead. So he called the centurion and asked him if he had died before the time.	44 А Пила́т здивувався, щоб Він міг уже вмерти. І, покликавши сотника, запитався його, чи давно вже Розп'я́тий помер.
45 And when he learned it, he gave the body to Joseph.	45 І, дізнавшись від сотника, він подарував тіло Йо́сипові.
46 And Joseph bought linen, and took him down and wrapped him in it, and laid him in a tomb which was hewn in a rock; and he rolled a stone against the door of the tomb.	46 А Йо́сип купив полотно, і, знявши Його, обгорнув полотном та й покла́в Його в гро́бі, що в скелі був ви́січений. І каменя привалив до моги́льних дверей.
47 But Mary of Magdala and Mary the mother of Joses, saw where he was laid.	47 Марія ж Магдали́на й Марія, мати Йосієва, дивилися, де́ ховали Його.
