1 Тогда ответил Елифаз из Темана:

2 – Отвечает ли мудрый знанием, взятым с ветра, наполняет ли свой живот палящим вихрем?

3 Возражает ли он пустыми словами, речами, в которых нет прока?

4 А ты и страх перед Всевышним потерял и молитву к Всевышнему считаешь малостью.

5 Твой грех рождает твои речи, ты усвоил язык нечестивых.

6 Ты сам себя обвиняешь, а не я; язык твой против тебя свидетельствует.

7 Разве ты был первым человеком? Разве ты был создан раньше холмов?

8 Разве ты был на совете Всевышнего? Разве ты один мудр?

9 Что знаешь ты, чего бы мы не знали? Что понимаешь, чего бы мы не поняли?

10 С нами седовласые старики, старше, чем твой отец.

11 Разве мало тебе утешений Всевышнего, добрых слов, что тебе сказали?

12 Почему отвлекают тебя твои чувства, почему сверкают в гневе твои глаза,

13 что ты обратил против Всевышнего свой дух, что твой язык выговаривает такие слова?

14 Как человек может быть чистым, и рождённый женщиной – быть праведным?

15 Если Всевышний и ангелам своим не доверяет, и даже небеса в Его глазах нечисты,

16 то тем более нечист и порочен человек, который пьёт неправду, словно воду!

17 Послушай меня, и я объясню тебе; расскажу тебе то, что видел,

18 то, о чём говорили мудрецы, не скрывая усвоенного от предков

19 (им одним земля была отдана, и чужой среди них не жил ):

20 все дни свои мучается нечестивый, отсчитаны все годы притеснителя.

21 В его ушах – гул ужаса; средь мира к нему приходит губитель.

22 От мглы он не надеется спастись; он обречён на меч.

23 Он – скиталец, пища для стервятника; он знает, что день мрака близок.

24 Беда и горе его пугают, наводят страх, как царь, готовящийся к войне,

25 за то, что простёр против Всевышнего руку и Всемогущему бросил вызов,

26 шёл на Него упрямо и дерзко с толстым крепким щитом.

27 За то, что лицо нечестивого жиром заплыло, и жир нарастил он у себя на бёдрах, –

28 он поселится в городах разорённых, в домах, в которых никто не живёт, в домах, обречённых на разрушение.

29 Он больше не будет богатым: богатство его расточится, и владения его не расширятся по земле.

30 Он не спасётся от мглы, пламя иссушит ветви его, и дыхание Всевышнего умчит его прочь.

31 Пусть он не обманывается, полагаясь на пустоту, ведь пустота и будет ему воздаянием.

32 Он получит сполна, прежде чем придёт его время, и не будут его ветви зеленеть.

33 Он сбросит незрелый виноград, как лоза, и растеряет свои цветы, как маслина.

34 Бесплодными будут безбожники, и огонь истребит шатры вымогателей.

35 Они зачали горе и родили беду; их сердце полно коварства.

3 Should he reason3198 with unprofitable5532 talk?1697 or with speeches4405 with which he can do5953 no3808 good?3276

4 Yes,637 you cast6565 off fear,3374 and restrain1639 prayer7878 before6440 God.410

5 For your mouth6310 utters502 your iniquity,5771 and you choose977 the tongue3956 of the crafty.6175

6 Your own mouth6310 comdemns7561 you, and not I: yes, your own lips8193 testify6030 against you.

7 Are you the first7223 man120 that was born?3205 or were you made2342 before6440 the hills?1389

8 Have you heard8085 the secret5475 of God?433 and do you restrain1639 wisdom2451 to yourself?413

9 What4100 know3045 you, that we know3045 not? what understand995 you, which1931 is not in us?

10 With us are both1571 the gray headed7867 and very3453 aged3453 men, much3524 elder1419 than your father.1

11 Are the consolations8575 of God410 small4592 with you? is there any secret328 thing1697 with you?

12 Why4100 does your heart3820 carry3947 you away? and what4100 do your eyes5869 wink7335 at,

13 That you turn7725 your spirit7307 against413 God,410 and let such words4405 go3318 out of your mouth?6310

14 What4100 is man,582 that he should be clean?2135 and he which is born3205 of a woman,802 that he should be righteous?6663

15 Behold,2005 he puts no3808 trust539 in his saints;6918 yes, the heavens8064 are not clean2141 in his sight.5869

16 How637 much more abominable8581 and filthy444 is man,376 which drinks8354 iniquity5766 like water?4325

17 I will show2331 you, hear8085 me; and that which I have seen2372 I will declare;5608

18 Which834 wise2450 men have told5046 from their fathers,1 and have not hid3582 it:

19 To whom1992 alone905 the earth776 was given,5414 and no3808 stranger2114 passed5674 among8432 them.

20 The wicked7563 man travails2342 with pain all3605 his days,3117 and the number4557 of years8141 is hidden6845 to the oppressor.6184

21 A dreadful6343 sound6963 is in his ears:241 in prosperity7965 the destroyer7703 shall come935 on him.

22 He believes539 not that he shall return7725 out of darkness,2822 and he is waited6822 for of the sword.2719

23 He wanders5074 abroad5074 for bread,3899 saying, Where346 is it? he knows3045 that the day3117 of darkness2822 is ready3559 at his hand.3027

24 Trouble6862 and anguish4691 shall make him afraid;1204 they shall prevail8630 against him, as a king4428 ready6264 to the battle.3593

25 For he stretches5186 out his hand3027 against413 God,410 and strengthens1396 himself against413 the Almighty.7706

26 He runs7323 on him, even on his neck,6677 on the thick5672 bosses1354 of his bucklers:4043

27 Because3588 he covers3680 his face6440 with his fatness,2459 and makes6213 bulges6371 of fat6371 on his flanks.3689

28 And he dwells7931 in desolate3582 cities,5892 and in houses1004 which no3808 man inhabits,3427 which834 are ready6257 to become heaps.1530

29 He shall not be rich,6238 neither3808 shall his substance2428 continue,6965 neither3808 shall he prolong5186 the perfection4512 thereof on the earth.776

30 He shall not depart5493 out of darkness;2822 the flame7957 shall dry3001 up his branches,3127 and by the breath7307 of his mouth6310 shall he go5493 away.

31 Let not him that is deceived8582 trust539 in vanity:7723 for vanity7723 shall be his recompense.8545

32 It shall be accomplished4390 before3808 his time,3117 and his branch3712 shall not be green.7488

33 He shall shake2554 off his unripe1154 grape1154 as the vine,1612 and shall cast7993 off his flower5328 as the olive.2132

34 For the congregation5712 of hypocrites2611 shall be desolate,1565 and fire784 shall consume398 the tabernacles168 of bribery.7810

14 Как человек может быть чистым, и рождённый женщиной – быть праведным?

26 шёл на Него упрямо и дерзко с толстым крепким щитом.

27 За то, что лицо нечестивого жиром заплыло, и жир нарастил он у себя на бёдрах, –
