Chapter 9

1 NOW Saul was still filled with anger and with threats of murder against the disciples of our LORD,

2 And he asked the high priests to give him letters to the synagogues at Damascus, that if he should find anyone, men or women, following this faith, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly a light from the sky shone round about him;

4 And he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? You make it hard for yourself by kicking against the pricks.

5 Saul answered and said, Who are you my LORD? and our LORD said, I am Jesus of Nazareth whom you persecute:

6 * And he, trembling and astonished, said, LORD, what will you have me to do? And the LORD said to him, Arise and go into the city, and there you will be told what you must do.

7 And the men who journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing only a voice, but seeing no man.

8 And Saul arose from the ground, but he could not see even though his eyes were open; and they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus.

9 And he was unable to see for three days during which he neither ate nor drank.

10 Now there was in Damascus a disciple named An-a-ni'as, and the LORD said to him in a vision, An-a-ni'as. And he said, Behold, I am here, my LORD.

11 And our LORD said to him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight and enquire at the house of Judas for Saul of the city of Tarsus: for behold, he is praying,

12 And he has seen in a vision a man named An-a-ni'as coming in and laying his hand on him to restore his sight.

13 Then An-a-ni'as said, My LORD, I have heard from many concerning this man, how much misery he has brought to your saints in Jerusalem.

14 And behold here also he has authority from the high priests to bind all who call on your name.

15 But the LORD said to him, Arise and go: he is the agent whom I have chosen for myself to carry my name to the Gentiles and kings, and the children of Israel:

16 For I will show him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.

17 Then An-a-ni'as went to him at the house, and laying his hands on him, said, Saul, my brother, our LORD Jesus, who appeared to you on the way when you were coming, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.

18 And in that hour, there fell from his eyes something like scales; and his eyesight was restored; and he arose and was baptized.

19 And when he had received food, he was strengthened, and he remained several days with the disciples in Damascus.

20 From that time on, he preached in the Jewish synagogues concerning Jesus, that he is the Son of God.

21 But all those who heard him were amazed and said: Is this not he who persecuted those who called on this name in Jerusalem and behold, he was sent here for that very purpose that he might bring them bound to the high priests?

22 But Saul became more powerful and he made the Jews who dwelt in Damascus tremble when he proved that Jesus is the Christ.

23 After he had been there many days, the Jews plotted against him to kill him.

24 But their conspiracy was made known to Saul, how they watched the gates of the city day and night to kill him.

25 Then the disciples placed him in a basket and let him down over the wall during the night.

26 Then Saul went to Jerusalem, and wanted to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, and could not believe that he was a convert.

27 But Bar'na-bas took him and brought him to the apostles, and told them how he had seen the LORD on the way, and how he had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had spoken openly in the name of Jesus.

28 So he went in and out with them at Jerusalem.

29 And he spoke openly in the name of Jesus, and debated with the Jews who understood Greek: but they wanted to kill him.

30 And when the brethren knew it, they brought him by night to Cµs-a-re'a, and from thence they sent him to Tarsus.

31 Then the church throughout Judµa and Galilee and Samaria was at peace, and strengthened itself and developed obedience and reverence to God, and by the consola- tion of the Holy Spirit, it increased in numbers.

32 And it came to pass, while Simon Peter traveled to various cities, he came down also to the saints who dwelt at the city o· Lyd'da.

33 And there he found a man named ¦ æneas, who had been paralyzed and had lain in bed eight years.

34 And Simon Peter said to him, ¦ æne-as, Jesus Christ heals you: Arise, and make your bed. And he arose immediately.

35 And all who dwelt at Lyd'da and Sharon saw him and turned to God.

36 Now there was in the city of Joppa a woman disciple called Tab'i-tha, which means gazelle and interpreted Dorcas; she was rich in good works and in charitable acts.

37 And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: they bathed her, and laid her in an upper room.

38 And the disciples heard that Simon Peter was in the city of Lyd'da, which is beside Joppa; they sent to him two men, desiring him to come to them without delay.

39 Then Simon Peter arose and went with them. And when he had arrived, they took him to the upper room where all the widows were gathered around her weeping and they showed him shirts and cloaks which Tab'itha had given them when she was alive.

40 But Simon Peter put all the people out and knelt down and prayed; then he turned to the body and said, Tab'i-tha, arise. And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Simon Peter, she sat up.

41 And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up; then he called the saints and widows and presented her to them alive.

42 And this was known throughout the city and many believed in our LORD.

43 Peter remained in Joppa many days, staying at the house of Simon Bur-sa'ya, the tanner.

1 And Saul,4569 yet2089 breathing1709 out threatenings547 and slaughter5408 against1519 the disciples3101 of the Lord,2962 went4334 to the high749 priest,749

2 And desired154 of him letters1992 to Damascus1154 to the synagogues,4864 that if1437 he found2147 any5100 of this3588 way,3598 whether5037 they were men435 or2532 women,1135 he might bring71 them bound1210 to Jerusalem.2419

3 And as he journeyed,4198 he came1096 near1448 Damascus:1154 and suddenly1810 there shined4015 round4015 about4015 him a light5457 from heaven:3772

4 And he fell4098 to the earth,1093 and heard191 a voice5456 saying3004 to him, Saul,4569 Saul,4569 why5101 persecute1377 you me?

5 And he said,2036 Who5101 are1488 you, Lord?2962 And the Lord2962 said,2036 I am1510 Jesus2424 whom3739 you persecute:1377 it is hard4642 for you to kick2979 against4314 the pricks.2759

6 And he trembling5141 and astonished2284 said,2036 Lord,2962 what5101 will2309 you have me to do?4160 And the Lord2962 said2036 to him, Arise,450 and go1525 into1519 the city,4172 and it shall be told2980 you what5101 you must1163 do.4160

7 And the men435 which3588 journeyed4922 with him stood2476 speechless,1769 hearing191 a voice,5456 but seeing2334 no3367 man.3367

8 And Saul4569 arose1453 from the earth;1093 and when his eyes3788 were opened,455 he saw991 no3762 man:3762 but they led5496 him by the hand,5496 and brought1521 him into1519 Damascus.1154

9 And he was three5140 days2250 without3361 sight,991 and neither3756 did eat5315 nor3761 drink.4095

10 And there was a certain5100 disciple3101 at1722 Damascus,1154 named3686 Ananias;367 and to him said2036 the Lord2962 in a vision,3705 Ananias.367 And he said,2036 Behold,2400 I am here, Lord.2962

11 And the Lord2962 said to him, Arise,450 and go4198 into1909 the street4505 which3588 is called2564 Straight,2117 and inquire2212 in the house3614 of Judas2455 for one called3686 Saul,4569 of Tarsus:5018 for, behold,2400 he prays,4336

12 And has seen1492 in a vision3705 a man435 named3686 Ananias367 coming1525 in, and putting2007 his hand5495 on2007 him, that he might receive308 his sight.308

13 Then1161 Ananias367 answered,611 Lord,2962 I have heard191 by many4183 of this5127 man,435 how3745 much3745 evil2556 he has done4160 to your saints40 at1722 Jerusalem:2419

14 And here5602 he has2192 authority1849 from the chief749 priests749 to bind1210 all3956 that call1941 on your name.3686

15 But the Lord2962 said2036 to him, Go4198 your way: for he is a chosen1589 vessel4632 to me, to bear941 my name3686 before1799 the Gentiles,1484 and kings,935 and the children5207 of Israel:2474

16 For I will show5263 him how3745 great3745 things he must1163 suffer3958 for my name's3686 sake.

17 And Ananias367 went565 his way, and entered1525 into1519 the house;3614 and putting2007 his hands5495 on1909 him said,2036 Brother80 Saul,4569 the Lord,2962 even Jesus,2424 that appeared3700 to you in the way3598 as you came,2064 has sent649 me, that you might receive308 your sight,308 and be filled4130 with the Holy40 Ghost.4151

18 And immediately2112 there fell634 from his eyes3788 as it had been scales:3013 and he received308 sight308 immediately,3916 and arose,450 and was baptized.907

19 And when he had received2983 meat,5160 he was strengthened.1765 Then1161 was Saul4569 certain5100 days2250 with the disciples3101 which were at1722 Damascus.1154

20 And straightway2112 he preached2784 Christ5547 in the synagogues,4864 that he is the Son5207 of God.2316

21 But all3956 that heard191 him were amazed,1839 and said;3004 Is not this3778 he that destroyed4199 them which3588 called1941 on1941 this5124 name3686 in Jerusalem,2419 and came2064 here5602 for that intent, that he might bring71 them bound1210 to the chief749 priests?749

22 But Saul4569 increased1743 the more3123 in strength,1743 and confounded4797 the Jews2453 which3588 dwelled2730 at1722 Damascus,1154 proving4822 that this3778 is very846 Christ.5547

23 And after5613 that many2425 days2250 were fulfilled,4137 the Jews2453 took4823 counsel4823 to kill337 him:

24 But their laying1917 await1917 was known1097 of Saul.4569 And they watched3906 the gates4439 day2250 and night3571 to kill337 him.

25 Then1161 the disciples3101 took2983 him by night,3571 and let5465 2524 him down2524 by the wall5038 in a basket.4711

26 And when Saul4569 was come3854 to Jerusalem,2419 he assayed3987 to join2853 himself to the disciples:3101 but they were all3956 afraid5399 of him, and believed4100 not that he was a disciple.3101

27 But Barnabas921 took1949 him, and brought71 him to the apostles,652 and declared1334 to them how4459 he had seen1492 the Lord2962 in the way,3598 and that he had spoken2980 to him, and how4459 he had preached3954 boldly3955 at1722 Damascus1154 in the name3686 of Jesus.2424

28 And he was with them coming1531 in and going1607 out at1722 Jerusalem.2419

29 And he spoke2980 boldly3955 in the name3686 of the Lord2962 Jesus,2424 and disputed4802 against4314 the Grecians:1675 but they went2021 about2021 to slay337 him.

30 Which when the brothers80 knew,1921 they brought2609 him down2609 to Caesarea,2542 and sent1821 him forth1821 to Tarsus.5019

31 Then3767 had2192 the churches1577 rest1515 throughout2596 all3650 Judaea2449 and Galilee1056 and Samaria,4540 and were edified;3618 and walking4198 in the fear5401 of the Lord,2962 and in the comfort3874 of the Holy40 Ghost,4151 were multiplied.4129

32 And it came1096 to pass,1330 as Peter4074 passed1330 throughout1223 all3956 quarters, he came2718 down2718 also2532 to the saints40 which3588 dwelled2730 at Lydda.3069

33 And there1563 he found2147 a certain5100 man444 named3686 Aeneas,132 which had kept2621 his bed2895 eight3638 years,2094 and was sick3885 of the palsy.3886

34 And Peter4074 said2036 to him, Aeneas,132 Jesus2424 Christ5547 makes2390 you whole:2390 arise,450 and make4766 your bed.4766 And he arose450 immediately.2112

35 And all3956 that dwelled2730 at Lydda3069 and Saron4565 saw1492 him, and turned1994 to the Lord.2962

36 Now1161 there was at1722 Joppa2445 a certain5100 disciple3102 named3686 Tabitha,5000 which3739 by interpretation1329 is called3004 Dorcas:1393 this3778 woman was full4134 of good18 works2041 and giving of alms1654 which3739 she did.4160

37 And it came1096 to pass in those1565 days,2250 that she was sick,770 and died:599 whom when they had washed,3068 they laid5087 her in an upper5253 chamber.5253

38 And for as much5607 as Lydda3069 was near1451 to Joppa,2445 and the disciples3101 had heard191 that Peter4074 was there,1722 846 they sent649 to him two1417 men,435 desiring3870 him that he would not delay3635 to come1330 to them.

39 Then1161 Peter4074 arose450 and went4905 with them. When he was come,3854 they brought321 him into1519 the upper5253 chamber:5253 and all3956 the widows5503 stood3936 by him weeping,2799 and showing1925 the coats5509 and garments2440 which3745 Dorcas1393 made,4160 while she was with them.

40 But Peter4074 put1544 them all3956 forth,1854 and kneeled5087 1119 down, and prayed;4336 and turning1994 him to the body4983 said,2036 Tabitha,5000 arise.450 And she opened455 her eyes:3788 and when she saw1492 Peter,4074 she sat339 up.

41 And he gave1325 her his hand,5495 and lifted450 her up, and when he had called5455 the saints40 and widows,5503 presented3936 her alive.2198

42 And it was known1110 throughout2596 all3650 Joppa;2445 and many4183 believed4100 in the Lord.2962

43 And it came1096 to pass, that he tarried3306 many2425 days2250 in Joppa2445 with one5100 Simon4613 a tanner.1038

7 And the men who journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing only a voice, but seeing no man.

8 And Saul arose from the ground, but he could not see even though his eyes were open; and they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus.

8 And Saul4569 arose1453 from the earth;1093 and when his eyes3788 were opened,455 he saw991 no3762 man:3762 but they led5496 him by the hand,5496 and brought1521 him into1519 Damascus.1154

10 Now there was in Damascus a disciple named An-a-ni'as, and the LORD said to him in a vision, An-a-ni'as. And he said, Behold, I am here, my LORD.

10 And there was a certain5100 disciple3101 at1722 Damascus,1154 named3686 Ananias;367 and to him said2036 the Lord2962 in a vision,3705 Ananias.367 And he said,2036 Behold,2400 I am here, Lord.2962

11 And our LORD said to him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight and enquire at the house of Judas for Saul of the city of Tarsus: for behold, he is praying,

12 And he has seen in a vision a man named An-a-ni'as coming in and laying his hand on him to restore his sight.

12 And has seen1492 in a vision3705 a man435 named3686 Ananias367 coming1525 in, and putting2007 his hand5495 on2007 him, that he might receive308 his sight.308

13 Then An-a-ni'as said, My LORD, I have heard from many concerning this man, how much misery he has brought to your saints in Jerusalem.

15 But the LORD said to him, Arise and go: he is the agent whom I have chosen for myself to carry my name to the Gentiles and kings, and the children of Israel:

15 But the Lord2962 said2036 to him, Go4198 your way: for he is a chosen1589 vessel4632 to me, to bear941 my name3686 before1799 the Gentiles,1484 and kings,935 and the children5207 of Israel:2474

16 For I will show him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.

16 For I will show5263 him how3745 great3745 things he must1163 suffer3958 for my name's3686 sake.

17 Then An-a-ni'as went to him at the house, and laying his hands on him, said, Saul, my brother, our LORD Jesus, who appeared to you on the way when you were coming, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.

18 And in that hour, there fell from his eyes something like scales; and his eyesight was restored; and he arose and was baptized.

18 And immediately2112 there fell634 from his eyes3788 as it had been scales:3013 and he received308 sight308 immediately,3916 and arose,450 and was baptized.907

19 And when he had received food, he was strengthened, and he remained several days with the disciples in Damascus.

19 And when he had received2983 meat,5160 he was strengthened.1765 Then1161 was Saul4569 certain5100 days2250 with the disciples3101 which were at1722 Damascus.1154

20 From that time on, he preached in the Jewish synagogues concerning Jesus, that he is the Son of God.

20 And straightway2112 he preached2784 Christ5547 in the synagogues,4864 that he is the Son5207 of God.2316

21 But all those who heard him were amazed and said: Is this not he who persecuted those who called on this name in Jerusalem and behold, he was sent here for that very purpose that he might bring them bound to the high priests?

21 But all3956 that heard191 him were amazed,1839 and said;3004 Is not this3778 he that destroyed4199 them which3588 called1941 on1941 this5124 name3686 in Jerusalem,2419 and came2064 here5602 for that intent, that he might bring71 them bound1210 to the chief749 priests?749

22 But Saul became more powerful and he made the Jews who dwelt in Damascus tremble when he proved that Jesus is the Christ.

22 But Saul4569 increased1743 the more3123 in strength,1743 and confounded4797 the Jews2453 which3588 dwelled2730 at1722 Damascus,1154 proving4822 that this3778 is very846 Christ.5547

23 After he had been there many days, the Jews plotted against him to kill him.

23 And after5613 that many2425 days2250 were fulfilled,4137 the Jews2453 took4823 counsel4823 to kill337 him:

24 But their conspiracy was made known to Saul, how they watched the gates of the city day and night to kill him.

24 But their laying1917 await1917 was known1097 of Saul.4569 And they watched3906 the gates4439 day2250 and night3571 to kill337 him.

25 Then the disciples placed him in a basket and let him down over the wall during the night.

25 Then1161 the disciples3101 took2983 him by night,3571 and let5465 2524 him down2524 by the wall5038 in a basket.4711

26 Then Saul went to Jerusalem, and wanted to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, and could not believe that he was a convert.

26 And when Saul4569 was come3854 to Jerusalem,2419 he assayed3987 to join2853 himself to the disciples:3101 but they were all3956 afraid5399 of him, and believed4100 not that he was a disciple.3101

27 But Bar'na-bas took him and brought him to the apostles, and told them how he had seen the LORD on the way, and how he had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had spoken openly in the name of Jesus.

28 So he went in and out with them at Jerusalem.
