Chapter 2

1 ON the third day there was a marriage feast in Cana, a city of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there.

2 And Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the marriage feast.

3 And when the wine decreased, his mother said to Jesus, They have no wine.

4 Jesus said to her, What is it to me and to you, woman? my turn has not yet come.

5 His mother said to the helpers, Whatever he tells you, do it.

6 And there were six stone jars placed there for the purification of the Jews, which could hold several gallons each.

7 Jesus said to them, Fill the jars with water; and they filled them up to the brim.

8 Then he said to them, Draw out now, and bring it to the chief guest of the feast. And they brought it.

9 And when the chief guest tasted the water that had become wine, he did not know whence it had come; but the helpers knew, who had drawn the water. Then the chief guest called the bridegroom

10 And said to him, Every man at first brings the best wine; and when they have drunk, then that which is weak; but you have kept the best wine until now.

11 This is the first miracle which Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee, and he showed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.

12 After this he went down to Capernaum, he and his mother and his brothers, and his disciples; and they remained there a few days.

13 And the Jewish passover was nearing; so Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

14 And he found in the temple those who were buying oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers sitting.

15 And he made a whip of cord, and drove them all out of the temple, even the sheep and the oxen and the money changers; and he threw out their exchange money, and upset their trays;

16 And to those who sold doves he said, Take these away from here; do not make my Father's house a house of trading.

17 And his disciples remembered that it is written, The zeal for your house has given me courage.

18 The Jews answered and said to him, What sign do you show us, that you are doing these things?

19 Jesus answered and said to them, Tear down this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

20 The Jews said to him, It took forty-six years to build this temple, and will you raise it up in three days?

21 But he spoke concerning the temple of his body.

22 When he rose from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this; and they believed the scriptures and the word which Jesus had said.

23 Now when Jesus was in Jerusalem at the passover, during the feast, a great many believed in him, because they saw the miracles which he did.

24 But Jesus did not entrust himself to them, because he understood every man.

25 And he needed no man to testify to him concerning any man; for he knew well what was in man.

3 Когда вино кончилось, мать Иисуса сказала Ему: «Вина больше нет».

4 Тогда Иисус ответил ей: «Почему ты Мне это говоришь? Моё время ещё не настало».

5 Мать Иисуса повелела слугам: «Делайте, что Он вам прикажет».

6 Там стояло шесть каменных кувшинов для воды, употребляемой евреями для омовений. Каждый из них вмещал около ста литров жидкости.

7 Иисус приказал слугам: «Наполните кувшины водой». И они наполнили кувшины до краёв.

8 Тогда Он сказал: «Теперь зачерпните немного и отнесите распорядителю торжества». Они исполнили это.

9 Распорядитель попробовал воду, превратившуюся в вино, но он не знал, откуда взялось вино, слуги же знали. Распорядитель подозвал жениха

10 и сказал ему: «Люди всегда угощают гостей хорошим вином в начале пира. Потом, когда все опьянеют, подают вино похуже. А ты до сих пор приберёг хорошее вино!»

11 Это было первое из знамений, совершённых Иисусом. Он сотворил его в городе Кана, в Галилее. Этим Он доказал Своё величие, и Его ученики поверили в Него.

12 Затем Он направился в Капернаум. Мать Иисуса, Его братья и ученики отправились вместе с Ним, и все они провели в Капернауме несколько дней.

13 Так как приближалась иудейская Пасха, Иисус отправился в Иерусалим.

14 В храме Он увидел людей, продававших крупный скот, овец и голубей; Он также увидел и менял за их столами.

15 Тогда Иисус свил из верёвки кнут и выгнал всех овец и весь скот из храма, а затем опрокинул столы менял и рассыпал их монеты.

16 Тем же, кто торговал голубями, Иисус сказал: «Уберите их отсюда! Не превращайте дом Моего Отца в рынок!»

17 Когда всё это случилось, ученики Иисуса вспомнили, что сказано в Писаниях: «Гнев пожирает меня, когда люди бесчестят Твой храм».

18 Иудейские предводители попросили Иисуса: «Яви нам знамение, чтобы мы убедились, что Ты имеешь право так поступать».

19 Иисус ответил: «Разрушьте этот храм, и Я восстановлю его в три дня».

20 Тогда предводители возразили: «Люди трудились над постройкой этого храма сорок шесть лет, а Ты собираешься восстановить его в три дня?»

21 Иисус же, говоря о храме, имел в виду Своё тело.

22 После того как Иисус воскрес, Его ученики вспомнили, что Иисус говорил это, и поверили Писаниям и тому, что Иисус сказал.

23 Когда Иисус был в Иерусалиме на празднике Пасхи, то многие поверили в Него, так как увидели знамения, которые Он творил.

24 Но Иисус не доверял им, так как знал помыслы людские.

25 Ему не нужны были ничьи рассказы о человеческой природе, потому что Он знал, что у кого на сердце.

9 And when the chief guest tasted the water that had become wine, he did not know whence it had come; but the helpers knew, who had drawn the water. Then the chief guest called the bridegroom

10 And said to him, Every man at first brings the best wine; and when they have drunk, then that which is weak; but you have kept the best wine until now.

10 и сказал ему: «Люди всегда угощают гостей хорошим вином в начале пира. Потом, когда все опьянеют, подают вино похуже. А ты до сих пор приберёг хорошее вино!»

11 This is the first miracle which Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee, and he showed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.

11 Это было первое из знамений, совершённых Иисусом. Он сотворил его в городе Кана, в Галилее. Этим Он доказал Своё величие, и Его ученики поверили в Него.

12 After this he went down to Capernaum, he and his mother and his brothers, and his disciples; and they remained there a few days.

13 And the Jewish passover was nearing; so Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

14 And he found in the temple those who were buying oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers sitting.

15 And he made a whip of cord, and drove them all out of the temple, even the sheep and the oxen and the money changers; and he threw out their exchange money, and upset their trays;

16 And to those who sold doves he said, Take these away from here; do not make my Father's house a house of trading.
