Chapter 4

1 AGAIN he began to teach by the sea side; and many people gathered unto him, so that he went up and sat in a boat in the sea; and all the people stood on the land by the sea.

2 And he taught them much by parables, and in his teaching he said,

3 Listen; Behold, a sower went out to sow.

4 And when he had sown, some fell on the roadside, and the fowls came and ate it.

5 Other fell upon the rock, where there was not sufficient soil; and it sprung up earlier because the ground was not deep enough;

6 But when the sun shone, it was scorched, and because it had no root, it dried up.

7 And other fell among thistles, and the thistles sprung up and choked it, and it bore no fruit.

8 But other fell in good soil, and it sprung up and grew and bore fruit, some thirty, and some sixty, and some one hundred.

9 And he said, He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

10 When they were alone by themselves, those who were with him together with the twelve asked him about that parable.

11 And Jesus said to them, To you is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God, but to the outsiders everything has to be explained by parables.

12 For seeing they see, and yet do not perceive; and hearing they hear, and yet do not understand; if they return, their sins would be forgiven.

13 And he said to them, Do you not know this parable? how then will you know all the parables?

14 The sower who sowed, sowed the word.

15 Those on the roadside are those in whom the word is sown; and when they have heard it, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word which is sown in their hearts.

16 And those which were sown upon the rock, are those who when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with joy;

17 And they have no root in themselves, but last for a while; and when trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they soon stumble.

18 And those which were sown among thistles are those who have heard the word,

19 And the thoughts of this world, and the deception of wealth, and the lusts of other things, enter in and choke the word, and bear no fruit.

20 And those which were sown in good soil, are those who hear the word, and receive it and bear fruit, one thirty, and one sixty, and one a hundred.

21 And he said to them, Is a lamp brought and put under a basket or under a bed? Is it not put on a lampholder?

22 For there is nothing hidden which will not be uncovered; and nothing in secret which will not be revealed.

23 If any man has ears to hear, let him hear.

24 And he said to them, Take heed what you hear; with what measure you measure it will be measured to you; and increase especially to them who hear.

25 For he who has, to him will be given; and he who has not, even that which he has will be taken away from him.

26 And he said, Such is the kingdom of God, like a man who casts seed in the ground.

27 And he sleeps and rises up night and day, and the seed springs up and grows, while he is not aware of it.

28 For the earth causes it to yield fruit; and yet first it becomes a blade of grass, then an ear, and at last a full grain in the ear.

29 But when the fruit is ripe, then immediately comes the sickle, because the harvest is ready.

30 And he said, To what shall we compare the kingdom of God? and with what parable shall we picture it?

31 It is just like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth.

32 But when it is sown, it springs up and becomes greater than all the herbs, and puts forth large branches, so that the birds can settle under their shadow.

33 Jesus talked to them with parables as these, such parables as they were able to hear.

34 And without parables he did not speak to them; but to his disciples, among themselves, he explained everything.

35 On that day, at evening, he said to them, Let us cross over to the landing place.

36 And they left the people, and took him away while he was in the boat. And there were other boats with them.

37 And there arose a heavy storm and wind, and the waves kept falling into the boat, so that the boat was nearly filled up.

38 But Jesus was sleeping on a blanket in the stern of the boat; and they came and roused him and said to him, Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?

39 So he got up, and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind quieted down, and there was a great calm.

40 And he said to them, Why are you so fearful? and why do you have no faith?

41 And they were exceedingly afraid, and said to each other, Oh, who is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

2 Und2532 er846 predigte1321 ihnen lange4183 durch Gleichnisse3850. Und2532 in1722 seiner Predigt1322 sprach3004 er zu1722 ihnen:

3 Höret191 zu! Siehe2400, es ging ein Sämann4687 aus1831, zu säen4687.

4 Und2532 es begab1096 sich, indem er846 säte4687, fiel4098 etliches3303 an1722 den Weg3598; da2532 kamen2064 die Vögel4071 unter dem Himmel3772 und2532 fraßen‘s auf2719.

5 Etliches243 fiel4098 in das Steinige4075, da3699 es nicht3756 viel4183 Erde1093 hatte2192, und1161 ging1816 bald2112 auf1909, darum1223 daß3361 es nicht2532 tiefe899 Erde1093 hatte2192.

6 Da2532 nun die Sonne2246 aufging393, verwelkte2739 es, und1161 dieweil1223 es nicht3361 Wurzel4491 hatte2192, verdorrete es.

7 Und2532 etliches243 fiel4098 unter1519 die Dornen173, und2532 die Dornen173 wuchsen empor305 und2532 erstickten‘s, und2532 es846 brachte1325 keine3756 Frucht2590:

8 Und2532 etliches243 fiel4098 auf1519 ein1520 gut2570 Land1093 und2532 brachte5342 Frucht2590, die da zunahm305 und2532 wuchs837; und2532 etliches1520 trug1325 dreißigfältig5144 und2532 etliches1520 sechzigfältig1835 und2532 etliches hundertfältig1540.

9 Und2532 er846 sprach3004 zu ihnen: Wer Ohren3775 hat2192 zu hören191, der höre191!

10 Und1161 da3753 er846 allein2651 war1096, fragten2065 ihn um4012 dieses Gleichnis3850, die um ihn waren, samt4862 den Zwölfen1427.

11 Und2532 er846 sprach3004 zu1722 ihnen: Euch5213 ist‘s1096 gegeben1325, das932 Geheimnis3466 des Reichs Gottes2316 zu wissen1097; denen aber1161 draußen1854 widerfähret es1565 alles3956 durch Gleichnisse3850,

12 auf daß2443 sie4920 es mit sehenden Augen991 sehen991 und2532 doch nicht3361 erkennen und2532 mit hörenden Ohren191 hören191 und2532 doch nicht3361 verstehen1492, auf daß sie846 sich nicht3379 dermal einst bekehren1994, und2532 ihre Sünden265 ihnen vergeben863 werden.

13 Und2532 er sprach3004 zu ihnen: Verstehet1097 ihr846 dieses Gleichnis3850 nicht3756, wie4459 wollet ihr denn2532 die5026 andern alle3956 verstehen1492?

14 Der Sämann4687 säet das Wort3056.

15 Diese3778 sind‘s aber1161, die an3844 dem Wege3598 sind, wo3699 das Wort3056 gesäet wird4687, und2532 sie es gehöret haben191; so3752 kommt2064 alsbald2112 der Satan4567 und2532 nimmt142 weg das Wort3056, das in1722 ihr846 Herz2588 gesäet war1526.

16 Also auch2532 die3739 sind‘s1526, die aufs Steinige4075 gesäet sind; wenn3752 sie846 das3778 Wort3056 gehöret haben191, nehmen2983 sie es bald2112 mit3326 Freuden5479 auf1909

17 und2532 haben2192 keine3756 Wurzel4491 in1722 ihnen, sondern235 sind1526 wetterwendisch4340; wenn sich1438 Trübsal2347 oder Verfolgung1375 um1223 des Worts3056 willen erhebt1096, so ärgern4624 sie sich alsbald2112.

18 Und2532 diese3778 sind‘s1526, die unter1519 die Dornen173 gesäet sind1526, die das3778 Wort3056 hören191,

19 und2532 die Sorge3308 dieser5127 Welt165 und2532 der4012 betrügliche Reichtum4149 und2532 viel andere3062 Lüste1939 gehen1096 hinein1531 und2532 ersticken4846 das Wort3056, und bleibet ohne Frucht175.

20 Und2532 diese3778 sind‘s1526, die3748 auf ein1520 gut2570 Land1093 gesäet sind, die das Wort3056 hören191 und2532 nehmen‘s an1909 und2532 bringen Frucht2592, etlicher dreißigfältig5144 und2532 etlicher sechzigfältig1835 und etlicher hundertfältig1540.

21 Und2532 er846 sprach3004 zu ihnen: Zündet2064 man auch3385 ein Licht3088 an1909, daß2443 man‘s unter5259 einen Scheffel3426 oder2228 unter5259 einen Tisch2825 setze5087? Mitnichten3756, sondern daß2443 man‘s auf einen Leuchter3087 setze2007.

22 Denn1063 es ist2076 nichts verborgen614, das3739 nicht3756 offenbar5318 werde5319, und235 ist5319 nichts Heimliches, das2443 nicht hervorkomme.

23 Wer1536 Ohren3775 hat2192 zu hören191, der höre191!

24 Und2532 sprach3004 zu1722 ihnen: Sehet991 zu, was5101 ihr846 höret191! Mit welcherlei Maß3358 ihr messet3354, wird man euch5213 wieder messen; und2532 man wird noch zugeben4369 euch5213, die3739 ihr dies höret191.

25 Denn wer302 da hat2192, dem3739 wird gegeben1325; und2532 wer nicht3756 hat2192, von575 dem3739 wird man nehmen142, auch2532 was3739 er846 hat2192.

26 Und2532 er2076 sprach3004: Das932 Reich Gottes2316 hat1909 sich also3779, als5613 wenn1437 ein Mensch444 Samen4703 aufs Land1093 wirft906

27 und2532 schläft2518 und2532 stehet auf1453 Nacht3571 und2532 Tag2250, und2532 der Same4703 gehet auf985 und2532 wächset, daß5613 er846‘s nicht3756 weiß1492.

28 Denn1063 die Erde1093 bringt2592 von ihr selbst844 zum ersten4412 das Gras5528, danach die Ähren4719, danach den vollen4134 Weizen4621 in1722 den Ähren4719.

29 Wenn3752 sie aber1161 die Frucht2590 gebracht hat3860, so schicket er bald2112 die Sichel1407 hin649; denn3754 die Ernte2326 ist da3936.

30 Und2532 er846 sprach3004: Wem5101 wollen wir3846 das932 Reich Gottes2316 vergleichen3666 und2228 durch1722 welch4169 Gleichnis3850 wollen wir es vorbilden?

31 Gleichwie5613 ein Senfkorn2848, wenn3752 das3739 gesäet wird aufs Land1093, so ist‘s4687 das3956 kleinste3398 unter1909 allen Samen4690 auf1909 Erden1093.

32 Und2532 wenn3752 es846 gesäet ist4687, so nimmt305 es zu1410 und2532 wird1096 größer denn3187 alle3956 Kohlkräuter3001 und2532 gewinnet große3173 Zweige2798, also daß5620 die Vögel4071 unter5259 dem Himmel3772 unter seinem Schatten4639 wohnen2681 können.

33 Und2532 durch viele4183 solche5108 Gleichnisse3850 sagte2980 er846 ihnen das Wort3056, nach dem2531 sie es hören191 konnten1410.

34 Und1161 ohne5565 Gleichnis3850 redete2980 er846 nichts3756 zu ihnen; aber1161 insonderheit2596 legte1956 er‘s seinen Jüngern3101 alles3956 aus.

35 Und2532 an1519 demselbigen Tage2250, des846 Abends3798, sprach3004 er1565 zu1722 ihnen: Laßt uns hinüberfahren1330!

36 Und2532 sie846 ließen863 das Volk3793 gehen und1161 nahmen3880 ihn, wie5613 er846 im1722 Schiff4143 war2258; und2532 es waren2258 mehr243 Schiffe4142 bei3326 ihm.

37 Und2532 es846 erhub sich ein großer3173 Windwirbel2978 und1161 warf1911 die Wellen2949 in1519 das Schiff4143, also daß5620 das Schiff voll ward1096.

38 Und2532 er846 war2258 hinten auf1909 dem Schiff4403 und2532 schlief2518 auf1909 einem Kissen4344. Und2532 sie846 weckten1326 ihn auf und sprachen3004 zu ihm: Meister1320, fragst3199 du4671 nichts3756 danach, daß3754 wir verderben622?

39 Und2532 er stund auf1326 und bedräuete den Wind417 und sprach2036 zu dem Meer2281: Schweig4623 und verstumme5392! Und der Wind417 legte sich2869, und ward1096 eine große3173 Stille1055.

40 Und2532 er sprach2036 zu5101 ihnen: Wie3779 seid ihr846 furchtsam1169? Wie4459, daß ihr2075 keinen3756 Glauben4102 habt2192?

41 Und2532 sie846 fürchteten sich5399 sehr3173 und2532 sprachen3004 untereinander240: Wer5101 ist2076 der3778? Denn686 Wind417 und3754 Meer2281 sind5219 ihm gehorsam.

31 It is just like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth.

31 Gleichwie5613 ein Senfkorn2848, wenn3752 das3739 gesäet wird aufs Land1093, so ist‘s4687 das3956 kleinste3398 unter1909 allen Samen4690 auf1909 Erden1093.

32 But when it is sown, it springs up and becomes greater than all the herbs, and puts forth large branches, so that the birds can settle under their shadow.

32 Und2532 wenn3752 es846 gesäet ist4687, so nimmt305 es zu1410 und2532 wird1096 größer denn3187 alle3956 Kohlkräuter3001 und2532 gewinnet große3173 Zweige2798, also daß5620 die Vögel4071 unter5259 dem Himmel3772 unter seinem Schatten4639 wohnen2681 können.

33 Jesus talked to them with parables as these, such parables as they were able to hear.

33 Und2532 durch viele4183 solche5108 Gleichnisse3850 sagte2980 er846 ihnen das Wort3056, nach dem2531 sie es hören191 konnten1410.

34 And without parables he did not speak to them; but to his disciples, among themselves, he explained everything.

34 Und1161 ohne5565 Gleichnis3850 redete2980 er846 nichts3756 zu ihnen; aber1161 insonderheit2596 legte1956 er‘s seinen Jüngern3101 alles3956 aus.

35 On that day, at evening, he said to them, Let us cross over to the landing place.

35 Und2532 an1519 demselbigen Tage2250, des846 Abends3798, sprach3004 er1565 zu1722 ihnen: Laßt uns hinüberfahren1330!

36 And they left the people, and took him away while he was in the boat. And there were other boats with them.

36 Und2532 sie846 ließen863 das Volk3793 gehen und1161 nahmen3880 ihn, wie5613 er846 im1722 Schiff4143 war2258; und2532 es waren2258 mehr243 Schiffe4142 bei3326 ihm.

37 And there arose a heavy storm and wind, and the waves kept falling into the boat, so that the boat was nearly filled up.

37 Und2532 es846 erhub sich ein großer3173 Windwirbel2978 und1161 warf1911 die Wellen2949 in1519 das Schiff4143, also daß5620 das Schiff voll ward1096.

38 But Jesus was sleeping on a blanket in the stern of the boat; and they came and roused him and said to him, Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?

38 Und2532 er846 war2258 hinten auf1909 dem Schiff4403 und2532 schlief2518 auf1909 einem Kissen4344. Und2532 sie846 weckten1326 ihn auf und sprachen3004 zu ihm: Meister1320, fragst3199 du4671 nichts3756 danach, daß3754 wir verderben622?

39 So he got up, and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind quieted down, and there was a great calm.

39 Und2532 er stund auf1326 und bedräuete den Wind417 und sprach2036 zu dem Meer2281: Schweig4623 und verstumme5392! Und der Wind417 legte sich2869, und ward1096 eine große3173 Stille1055.

40 And he said to them, Why are you so fearful? and why do you have no faith?

40 Und2532 er sprach2036 zu5101 ihnen: Wie3779 seid ihr846 furchtsam1169? Wie4459, daß ihr2075 keinen3756 Glauben4102 habt2192?

41 And they were exceedingly afraid, and said to each other, Oh, who is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

41 Und2532 sie846 fürchteten sich5399 sehr3173 und2532 sprachen3004 untereinander240: Wer5101 ist2076 der3778? Denn686 Wind417 und3754 Meer2281 sind5219 ihm gehorsam.
