第16章

1 我以此告爾、免爾厭棄我、

2 人將逐爾出會堂、時至、在殺爾者、意以此爲事上帝、

3 其行是、不識父與我故也、

4 我以是告爾、時至、可憶吾言、昔不告爾者、以我偕爾也、

5 我今將歸遣我者、爾曹無人問我何往、

6 因我言此、爾心殷憂、

7 我誠告爾、我往、則爲爾益、我不往、保惠師不來、往則遣之、

8 至、必以罪、以義、以審判、使世自責、

9 以罪、因世不信我、

10 以義、因我歸父、爾不再見我、

11 以審判、因此世之君見審判、

12 我猶有多端告爾、今卽言之、爾亦不悟也、

13 眞理之神至、將導爾悉知眞理、彼非自擅而言、乃以所聞者言之、亦以未來之事示爾、

14 彼必以我所有者示爾、以榮我也、

15 父所有者、我亦有之、故曰以我所有者示爾、

16 頃之而爾不見我、復頃之而爾見我、以我歸父也、

17 門徒相語曰、彼云、頃之不見我、復頃之見我、又云、以我歸父、斯語何歟、

18 且頃之云者、果何意耶、我不知其所謂也、

19 耶穌知其欲問、則曰、我言頃之不見我、復頃之見我、爾曹得毋相詰乎、

20 我誠告爾、爾曹將哭而哀、世人欣喜、爾將憂、然爾之憂、必轉爲喜、

21 婦將生子則憂、以其時至、子生、則忘其苦、因喜生子於世也、

22 如是爾今懷憂、我復見爾、則爾心喜、且爾之喜、無人禁之、

23 當日、爾曹無所問我、我誠告爾、凡托我名求父、父必賜爾、

24 爾曩所求、未托我名、今求而得之、則爾喜甚、

25 我以此設譬告爾、時至、我不設譬、乃以父明示爾、

26 斯時、爾將托我名而祈、我不曰、代爾求父、

27 蓋父自愛爾、以爾愛我、且信我出自上帝也、

28 我自父臨世、復離世歸父、

29 門徒曰、今爾明言不設譬、

30 我儕知爾無所不知、不必有人問爾、所以信爾出自上帝也、

31 耶穌曰、今爾曹信乎、

32 時至、今日是已、爾曹星散、各歸其所、遣我獨處、然我非獨處、父偕我也、

33 我以此告爾、欲爾以我而安、在世爾有患難、然爾無懼、我已勝世矣、

Chapter 16

1 I HAVE spoken these things to you, so that you may not stumble.

2 For they will put you out of their synagogues; and the hour will come that whoever kills you, will think that he has offered an offering to God.

3 And these things they will do, because they have not known my Father, nor me.

4 I have spoken these things to you, that when their time does come, you may remember them, and that I told you. And these things I did not tell you before, because I was with you.

5 But now I am going to him who sent me, and yet no one of you asks me, Where are you going?

6 But because I told you these things, sorrow has come and filled your hearts.

7 But I tell you the truth, It is better for you that I should go away; for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I should go, I will send him to you.

8 And when he is come, he will rebuke the world concerning sin, concerning righteousness, and concerning judgment.

9 Concerning sin, because they do not believe in me;

10 Concerning righteousness, because I go to my Father, and you will not see me again;

11 Concerning judgment, because the leader of this world has been judged.

12 Again, I have many other things to tell you, but you cannot grasp them now.

13 But when the Spirit of truth is come, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak from himself, but what he hears that he will speak; and he will make known to you things which are to come in the future.

14 He will glorify me; because he will take of my own and show to you.

15 Everything that my Father has is mine; this is the reason why I told you that he will take of my own and show to you.

16 A little while, and you will not see me; and again a little while, and you will see me, because I am going to the Father.

17 Then his disciples said to one another, What is this that he said to us, A little while, and you will not see me; and again a little while, and you will see me; and, because I am going to my Father?

18 And they said, What is this that he said, A little while? We cannot understand what he talks about.

19 Jesus knew that they desired to ask him, and he said to them, Are you inquiring among yourselves concerning this, that I told you, A little while, and you will not see me; and again a little while, and you will see me?

20 Truly, truly, I say to you, that you will weep and wail, and yet the world will rejoice; and you will be sad, but your sadness will be changed into gladness.

21 When a woman is in travail, she is depressed, because her day has arrived; but when she has given birth to a son, she no longer remembers her troubles, because of the joy that a male child * is born into the world.

22 So you also are depressed; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no man will take away from you.

23 In that day you will not ask me anything. Truly, truly, I say to you, that whatever you ask my Father in my name, he will give it to you.

24 Hitherto you have asked nothing in my name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be full.

25 I have spoken these things in figures; but the time is coming, when I will not speak to you in figures, but will plainly explain to you concerning the Father.

26 In that day you will ask in my name; and I will not say to you, I will ask the Father concerning you.

27 For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came forth from the Father.

28 I came forth from the Father, and I came into the world; again, I am leaving the world and I am going to the Father.

29 His disciples said to him, Behold, now you speak plainly, and do not utter a single figure.

30 Now we understand that you know everything; and you need no man to ask you; by this we believe that you have come forth from God.

31 Jesus said to them, Believe it.

32 For behold, the hour is coming, and it has now come, when you will be dispersed, every man to his own country, and you will leave me alone; and yet I am never alone, because the Father is with me.

33 These things I have said to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but have courage; I have conquered the world.

5 我今將歸遣我者、爾曹無人問我何往、	5 But now I am going to him who sent me, and yet no one of you asks me, Where are you going?
6 因我言此、爾心殷憂、	6 But because I told you these things, sorrow has come and filled your hearts.
7 我誠告爾、我往、則爲爾益、我不往、保惠師不來、往則遣之、	7 But I tell you the truth, It is better for you that I should go away; for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I should go, I will send him to you.
8 至、必以罪、以義、以審判、使世自責、	8 And when he is come, he will rebuke the world concerning sin, concerning righteousness, and concerning judgment.
9 以罪、因世不信我、	9 Concerning sin, because they do not believe in me;
10 以義、因我歸父、爾不再見我、	10 Concerning righteousness, because I go to my Father, and you will not see me again;
11 以審判、因此世之君見審判、	11 Concerning judgment, because the leader of this world has been judged.
12 我猶有多端告爾、今卽言之、爾亦不悟也、	12 Again, I have many other things to tell you, but you cannot grasp them now.
13 眞理之神至、將導爾悉知眞理、彼非自擅而言、乃以所聞者言之、亦以未來之事示爾、	13 But when the Spirit of truth is come, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak from himself, but what he hears that he will speak; and he will make known to you things which are to come in the future.
14 彼必以我所有者示爾、以榮我也、	14 He will glorify me; because he will take of my own and show to you.
15 父所有者、我亦有之、故曰以我所有者示爾、	15 Everything that my Father has is mine; this is the reason why I told you that he will take of my own and show to you.
16 頃之而爾不見我、復頃之而爾見我、以我歸父也、	16 A little while, and you will not see me; and again a little while, and you will see me, because I am going to the Father.
17 門徒相語曰、彼云、頃之不見我、復頃之見我、又云、以我歸父、斯語何歟、	17 Then his disciples said to one another, What is this that he said to us, A little while, and you will not see me; and again a little while, and you will see me; and, because I am going to my Father?
18 且頃之云者、果何意耶、我不知其所謂也、	18 And they said, What is this that he said, A little while? We cannot understand what he talks about.
19 耶穌知其欲問、則曰、我言頃之不見我、復頃之見我、爾曹得毋相詰乎、	19 Jesus knew that they desired to ask him, and he said to them, Are you inquiring among yourselves concerning this, that I told you, A little while, and you will not see me; and again a little while, and you will see me?

25 我以此設譬告爾、時至、我不設譬、乃以父明示爾、	25 I have spoken these things in figures; but the time is coming, when I will not speak to you in figures, but will plainly explain to you concerning the Father.
26 斯時、爾將托我名而祈、我不曰、代爾求父、	26 In that day you will ask in my name; and I will not say to you, I will ask the Father concerning you.
27 蓋父自愛爾、以爾愛我、且信我出自上帝也、	27 For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came forth from the Father.
28 我自父臨世、復離世歸父、	28 I came forth from the Father, and I came into the world; again, I am leaving the world and I am going to the Father.
29 門徒曰、今爾明言不設譬、	29 His disciples said to him, Behold, now you speak plainly, and do not utter a single figure.
30 我儕知爾無所不知、不必有人問爾、所以信爾出自上帝也、	30 Now we understand that you know everything; and you need no man to ask you; by this we believe that you have come forth from God.
31 耶穌曰、今爾曹信乎、	31 Jesus said to them, Believe it.
32 時至、今日是已、爾曹星散、各歸其所、遣我獨處、然我非獨處、父偕我也、	32 For behold, the hour is coming, and it has now come, when you will be dispersed, every man to his own country, and you will leave me alone; and yet I am never alone, because the Father is with me.
33 我以此告爾、欲爾以我而安、在世爾有患難、然爾無懼、我已勝世矣、	33 These things I have said to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but have courage; I have conquered the world.
