雅各書

第3章

1 我的弟兄們，不要多人作師傅，因為曉得我們要取更大的罪名［receive the greater condemnation］。

2 原來我們在許多事上都有過失；若有人在話語上沒有過失，他就是完全人，也能勒住自己的全身。

3 看哪［Behold］，我們若把嚼環放在馬嘴裏，叫牠順服，就能調動牠的全身。

4 看哪，船隻雖然甚大，又被大風催逼，只用小小的舵，就隨著掌舵的意思轉動。

5 照樣［Even so］，舌頭在百體裏是很小［is a little］的，也［and］能說大話。看哪，一點［a little］的火能點著何等［how］大的樹林。

6 舌頭就是火，在我們百體中，舌頭是個罪惡的世界，能污穢全身，也能把生命的輪子點起來，並且是從地獄裏點著的。

7 各類的走獸，飛禽，蛇類［serpents］，水族，本來都可以制伏，也已經被人制伏了；

8 唯獨舌頭沒有人能制伏，是難以駕馭的［unruly］惡物，滿了害死人的毒液［poison］。

9 我們用舌頭頌讚神［God］，就是父［even the Father］，又用舌頭咒詛那照著神形像被造的人；

10 頌讚和咒詛從一個口裏出來。我的弟兄們，這是不應當的。

11 泉源從一個眼裏能發出甜苦兩樣的水嗎？

12 我的弟兄們，無花果樹能生橄欖嗎？葡萄樹能結無花果嗎？鹹水裏也不能發出甜水來。

13 你們中間誰是有智慧有見識的呢？他就當在智慧的溫柔上顯出他的善行來。

14 你們心裏若懷著苦毒的嫉妒和紛爭，就不可自誇，也不可說謊話抵擋真理［truth］。

15 這樣的智慧不是從上頭來的，乃是屬地的，屬情慾的，屬鬼魔的。

16 在何處有嫉妒、紛爭，就在何處有擾亂和各樣的壞事。

17 唯獨從上頭來的智慧，先是純潔［pure］，後是和平，溫良柔順，滿有憐憫，多結善果，沒有偏見，沒有假冒。

18 並且使人和平的，是用和平所栽種的義果。

1 My brothers,80 be not many4183 masters,1320 knowing1492 that we shall receive2983 the greater3187 condemnation.2917

2 For in many4183 things we offend4417 all.537 If1487 any1536 man offend4417 not in word,3056 the same3778 is a perfect5046 man,435 and able1415 also2532 to bridle5469 the whole3650 body.4983

3 Behold,2400 we put906 bits5469 in the horses'2462 mouths,4750 that they may obey3982 us; and we turn3329 about3329 their whole3650 body.4983

4 Behold2400 also2532 the ships,4143 which though they be so5082 great,5082 and are driven1643 of fierce4642 winds,417 yet are they turned3329 about3329 with a very1646 small1646 helm,4079 wherever3699 302 the governor2116 wants.3730 1014

5 Even2532 so3779 the tongue1100 is a little3398 member,3196 and boasts3166 great3166 things. Behold,2400 how2245 great2245 a matter5208 a little3641 fire4442 kindles!381

6 And the tongue1100 is a fire,4442 a world2889 of iniquity:93 so3779 is the tongue1100 among1722 our members,3196 that it defiles4695 the whole3650 body,4983 and sets5394 on fire5394 the course5164 of nature;1078 and it is set5394 on fire5394 of hell.1067

7 For every3956 kind5449 of beasts,2342 and of birds,4071 and of serpents,2062 and of things in the sea,1724 is tamed,1150 and has been tamed1150 of mankind5449

8 But the tongue1100 can1410 no3762 man444 tame;1150 it is an unruly183 evil,2556 full3324 of deadly2287 poison.2447

9 Therewith1722 846 bless2127 we God,2316 even the Father;3962 and therewith1722 846 curse2672 we men,444 which3588 are made1096 after2596 the similitude3669 of God.2316

10 Out of the same846 mouth4750 proceeds1831 blessing2129 and cursing.2671 My brothers,80 these5023 things ought5534 not so3779 to be.

11 Does a fountain4077 send1032 forth1032 at1537 the same846 place3692 sweet1099 water and bitter?4089

12 Can1410 the fig4808 tree,4808 my brothers,80 bear4160 olive1636 berries?1636 either2228 a vine,288 figs?4810 so3779 can no3762 fountain4077 both yield4160 salt252 water5204 and fresh.1099

13 Who5101 is a wise4680 man and endued1990 with knowledge1990 among1722 you? let him show1166 out of a good2570 conversation391 his works2041 with meekness4240 of wisdom.4678

14 But if1487 you have2192 bitter4089 envying2205 and strife2052 in your5216 hearts,2588 glory2620 not, and lie5574 not against2596 the truth.225

15 This3778 wisdom4678 descends2718 not from above,509 but is earthly,1919 sensual,5591 devilish.1141

16 For where3699 envying2205 and strife2052 is, there1563 is confusion181 and every3956 evil5337 work.4229

17 But the wisdom4678 that is from above509 is first4412 pure,53 then1899 peaceable,1516 gentle,1933 and easy2138 to be entreated,2138 full3324 of mercy1656 and good18 fruits,2590 without505 partiality,87 and without505 hypocrisy.505

18 And the fruit2590 of righteousness1343 is sown4687 in peace1515 of them that make4160 peace.1515
