約翰福音

第3章

1 有一個法利賽人，名叫尼哥德慕，是猶太人的官；

2 這人夜裏來見耶穌，對他［unto him］說：「拉比，我們知道你是由神那裏來作教師［teacher］的；因為你所行的這些［these］神蹟，若沒有神同在，無人能行。」

3 耶穌回答他［him］說：「我實實在在的告訴你：『人若不重生，就不能見神的國。』」

4 尼哥德慕對他［unto him］說：「人已經老了，如何能重生呢？豈能再進母腹生出來嗎？」

5 耶穌回答［answered］說：「我實實在在的告訴你：『人若不是從水和靈［Spirit］生的，就不能進神的國。』

6 從肉身生的就是肉身；從靈［Spirit］生的就是靈。

7 我對你［unto thee］說：『你們必須重生。』你不要以為希奇。

8 風隨著意思吹，你聽見風的響聲，卻道不出［canst not tell］從那裏來，往那裏去；凡從靈［Spirit］生的，也是如此。」

9 尼哥德慕回答［answered］他說：「怎能有這些事［these things］呢？」

10 耶穌回答他［him］說：「你是以色列［Israel］的夫子［master］，還不曉得［knowest］這些事［these things］嗎？

11 我實實在在的告訴你：『我們所說的是我們知道的，我們所見證的是我們見過的；你們卻不領受我們的見證。』

12 我對你們說地上的事，你們尚且不信，若說天上的事，如何能信呢？

13 除了從天降下仍舊在天［which is in heaven］的人子，沒有人升過天。

14 摩西在曠野怎樣舉蛇，人子也必照樣被舉起來；

15 叫一切信他的，不至滅亡［should not perish］，反得永生［but have eternal life］。」

16 「神愛世人，甚至將他的獨生［begotten］子賜給他們，叫一切信他的，不至滅亡，反得永生。

17 因為神差他的兒子降世，不是要定世人的罪［condemn the world］；乃是要叫世人因他得救。

18 信他的人，不被定罪；不信的人，罪卻［but］已經定了，因為他不信神獨生［begotten］子的名。

19 光來到世間，世人因自己的行為是惡的，不愛光，倒愛黑暗，定他們的罪就是在此。

20 凡作惡的便恨光，也［neither］不來就光，恐怕他的行為受責備。

21 但行真理的必來就光，要顯明他所行的是靠神而行。」

22 這些［these］事以後，耶穌和他［his］門徒到了猶太地；他［he］在那裏與他們同［with them］住，施浸。

23 約翰在靠近撒冷的哀嫩也施浸，因為那裏水多；眾人都去受浸。

24 這是因［For］約翰還沒有下在監裏。

25 那時［Then］，約翰有好些［some］門徒和猶太人［Jews］辯論潔淨的禮。

26 他們［they］就來見約翰，對他［unto him］說：「拉比，從前同你在約旦河外、你所見證的那位，現在施浸，眾人都往他那裏去了。」

27 約翰回答［answered］說：「若不是從天上賜的，人就不能得甚麼。

28 我曾說：『我不是基督，乃［but］是奉差遣在他前面的。』你們自己可以給我作見證。

29 娶新婦的就是新郎；新郎的朋友倒［but］站著，聽見新郎的聲音就甚喜樂；故此，我這喜樂滿足了。

30 他必興旺，然而［but］我必衰微。」

31 「從天上來的是在一切［all］之上；從地上來的是屬乎地，他所說的也是屬乎地；從天上來的是在一切［all］之上。

32 他將所見所聞的見證出來；只是沒有人領受他的見證。

33 那領受他見證的，就印證［set to his seal that］神是真的。

34 神所差來的就說神的話；因為神賜靈［Spirit］給他是沒有限量的。

35 父愛子，已將凡事［all things］交在他手裏。

36 信子的人有永生。不信［believeth not］子的人不得見［shall not see］永生；神的震怒常在他身上。」

Chapter 3

1 THERE was there a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews;

2 He came at night to Jesus and said to him, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher sent from God; for no man can do these miracles that you are doing, except God is with him.

3 Jesus answered and said to him, Truly, truly, I say to you, If a man is not born again,* he cannot see the kingdom of God.

4 Nicodemus said to him, How can an old man be born again? can he enter again a second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

5 Jesus answered and said to him, Truly, truly, I say to you, If a man is not born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 What is born of flesh is flesh; and what is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Do not be surprised because I have told you that you all must be born again.

8 The wind blows where it pleases, and you hear its sound; but you do not know whence it comes and whither it goes; such is every man who is born of the Spirit.

9 Nicodemus answered and said to him, How can these things be?

10 Jesus answered and said to, You are a teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand these things?

11 Truly, truly, I say to you, We speak only what we know, and we testify only to what we have seen; and yet you do not accept our testimony.

12 If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how then will you believe me, if I tell you about heavenly things?

13 No man has ascended to heaven, except he who came down from heaven, even the Son of man who is in heaven.

14 Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so the Son of man is ready to be lifted up;

15 So that every man who believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

16 For God so loved the world, that he even gave his only begotten Son, so that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

17 For God did not send his Son into the world, to condemn the world; but that the world should be saved by him.

18 He who believes in him will not be condemned; and he who does not believe has already been condemned, for not believing in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

19 And this is the judgment, that light has come into the world, and yet men have loved darkness more than light, because their works were evil.

20 For every one who does detested things hates the light, and he does not come to the light, because his works cannot be covered.

21 But he who does truthful things comes to the light, so that his works may be known, that they are done through God.

22 After these things, Jesus and his disciples came to the land of Judaea, and he remained there with them, and baptized.

23 John also was baptizing at the spring of Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there; and they came, and were baptized.

24 For John was not yet cast into prison.

25 Now it happened that a dispute arose between one of John's disciples and a Jew about the ceremony of purifying.

26 So they came to John and told him, Teacher, he who was with you at the Jordan crossing, concerning whom you testified, behold, he also is baptizing and a great many are coming to him.

27 John answered and said to them, No man can receive anything of his own will, except it is given to him from heaven.

28 You yourselves bear me witness that I said, I am not the Christ, but only a messenger to go before him.

29 He who has a bride is the bridegroom; and the best man of the bridegroom is he who stands up and listens to him, and rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice; this my joy therefore is fulfilled.

30 He must become greater and I lesser.

31 For he who has come from above is above all; and he who is of the earth is of the earth, and he speaks of earthly things; but he who has come from heaven is above all.

32 And he testifies of what he has seen and heard, and yet no man accepts his testimony.

33 He who accepts his testimony, has set his seal that God is true.

34 For he whom God has sent, speaks the words of God; for God did not give the Spirit by measure.

35 The Father loves the Son, and has placed everything under his hand.

36 He who believes in the Son has eternal life; and he who does not obey the Son, shall not see life, but the wrath of God shall remain on him.

6 從肉身生的就是肉身；從靈［Spirit］生的就是靈。	6 What is born of flesh is flesh; and what is born of the Spirit is spirit.

12 我對你們說地上的事，你們尚且不信，若說天上的事，如何能信呢？	12 If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how then will you believe me, if I tell you about heavenly things?
13 除了從天降下仍舊在天［which is in heaven］的人子，沒有人升過天。	13 No man has ascended to heaven, except he who came down from heaven, even the Son of man who is in heaven.

15 叫一切信他的，不至滅亡［should not perish］，反得永生［but have eternal life］。」	15 So that every man who believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 「神愛世人，甚至將他的獨生［begotten］子賜給他們，叫一切信他的，不至滅亡，反得永生。	16 For God so loved the world, that he even gave his only begotten Son, so that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
17 因為神差他的兒子降世，不是要定世人的罪［condemn the world］；乃是要叫世人因他得救。	17 For God did not send his Son into the world, to condemn the world; but that the world should be saved by him.
18 信他的人，不被定罪；不信的人，罪卻［but］已經定了，因為他不信神獨生［begotten］子的名。	18 He who believes in him will not be condemned; and he who does not believe has already been condemned, for not believing in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 光來到世間，世人因自己的行為是惡的，不愛光，倒愛黑暗，定他們的罪就是在此。	19 And this is the judgment, that light has come into the world, and yet men have loved darkness more than light, because their works were evil.
20 凡作惡的便恨光，也［neither］不來就光，恐怕他的行為受責備。	20 For every one who does detested things hates the light, and he does not come to the light, because his works cannot be covered.
21 但行真理的必來就光，要顯明他所行的是靠神而行。」	21 But he who does truthful things comes to the light, so that his works may be known, that they are done through God.
22 這些［these］事以後，耶穌和他［his］門徒到了猶太地；他［he］在那裏與他們同［with them］住，施浸。	22 After these things, Jesus and his disciples came to the land of Judaea, and he remained there with them, and baptized.
23 約翰在靠近撒冷的哀嫩也施浸，因為那裏水多；眾人都去受浸。	23 John also was baptizing at the spring of Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there; and they came, and were baptized.
24 這是因［For］約翰還沒有下在監裏。	24 For John was not yet cast into prison.
25 那時［Then］，約翰有好些［some］門徒和猶太人［Jews］辯論潔淨的禮。	25 Now it happened that a dispute arose between one of John's disciples and a Jew about the ceremony of purifying.
26 他們［they］就來見約翰，對他［unto him］說：「拉比，從前同你在約旦河外、你所見證的那位，現在施浸，眾人都往他那裏去了。」	26 So they came to John and told him, Teacher, he who was with you at the Jordan crossing, concerning whom you testified, behold, he also is baptizing and a great many are coming to him.
