1 建築宮室、不蒙耶和華祐、俱爲徒勞兮、謹守城垣、不賴耶和華助、亦爲虛事兮、

2 由是觀之、緃夙興夜寐、心緒紛紜、以謀餬口、亦係徒勞、上帝所愛者、必得安寢兮。

3 人生子女、耶和華所賜、婦女產育、皆彼賞賫兮、

4 有子英勇、猶武夫有利鏃兮、

5 人多男子、猶搜集衆矢、必邀純嘏、邑門禦敵、不蒙媿恥兮。

1 EXCEPT the LORD build the house, they labor in vain who build it; except the LORD keep the city, the watchmen stay awake in vain.

2 It is in vain for those who rise up early, who sit up late; they eat the bread of sorrows, for so he gives in sleep to his beloved.

3 Lo, children are a heritage of the LORD; and the fruit of the womb is a reward.

4 Like arrows in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

5 Blessed is the man who has his quiver full of them; he shall not be ashamed, but shall speak with enemies in the gate.
