Chapter 15

1 And straightway2112 in the morning4404 the chief749 priests749 held4160 a consultation4824 with the elders4245 and scribes1122 and the whole3650 council,4892 and bound1210 Jesus,2424 and carried667 him away,667 and delivered3860 him to Pilate.4091

2 And Pilate4091 asked1905 him, Are1488 you the King935 of the Jews?2453 And he answering611 said2036 to them, You say3004 it.

3 And the chief749 priests749 accused2723 him of many4183 things: but he answered611 nothing.3756 3762

4 And Pilate4091 asked1905 him again,3825 saying,3004 Answer611 you nothing?3756 behold2396 how4214 many4214 things they witness2649 against you.

5 But Jesus2424 yet3765 answered611 nothing;3756 3762 so5620 that Pilate4091 marveled.2296

6 Now1161 at2596 that feast1859 he released630 to them one1520 prisoner,1198 whomsoever3746 they desired.154

7 And there was one named3004 Barabbas,912 which lay bound1210 with them that had made4955 insurrection4955 with him, who3748 had committed4160 murder5408 in the insurrection.4714

8 And the multitude3793 crying310 aloud310 began756 to desire154 him to do as he had ever104 done4160 to them.

9 But Pilate4091 answered611 them, saying,3004 Will2309 you that I release630 to you the King935 of the Jews?2453

10 For he knew1097 that the chief749 priests749 had delivered3860 him for envy.5355

11 But the chief749 priests749 moved383 the people,3793 that he should rather3123 release630 Barabbas912 to them.

12 And Pilate4091 answered611 and said2036 again3825 to them, What5101 will2309 you then3767 that I shall do4160 to him whom3739 you call3004 the King935 of the Jews?2453

13 And they cried2896 out again,3825 Crucify4717 him.

14 Then1161 Pilate4091 said3004 to them, Why,1063 what5101 evil2556 has he done?4160 And they cried2896 out the more4056 exceedingly,4056 Crucify4717 him.

15 And so Pilate,4091 willing1014 to content2425 the people,3793 released630 Barabbas912 to them, and delivered3860 Jesus,2424 when he had scourged5417 him, to be crucified.4717

16 And the soldiers4757 led520 him away520 into2080 the hall,833 called3739 2076 Praetorium;4232 and they call4779 together4779 the whole3650 band.4686

17 And they clothed1746 him with purple,4209 and platted4120 a crown4735 of thorns,174 and put4060 it about4060 his head,

18 And began756 to salute782 him, Hail,5463 King935 of the Jews!2453

19 And they smote5180 him on the head2776 with a reed,2563 and did spit1716 on him, and bowing5087 their knees1119 worshipped4352 him.

20 And when3753 they had mocked1702 him, they took1562 off609 the purple4209 from him, and put1746 his own2398 clothes2440 on1746 him, and led1806 him out to crucify4717 him.

21 And they compel29 one5100 Simon4613 a Cyrenian,2956 who passed3855 by, coming2064 out of the country,68 the father3962 of Alexander223 and Rufus,4504 to bear142 his cross.4716

22 And they bring5342 him to the place5117 Golgotha,1115 which3739 is, being interpreted,3177 The place5117 of a skull.2898

23 And they gave1325 him to drink4095 wine3631 mingled with myrrh:4669 but he received2983 it not.

24 And when they had crucified4717 him, they parted1266 his garments,2440 casting906 lots2819 on them, what5101 every5100 man should take.142

25 And it was the third5154 hour,5610 and they crucified4717 him.

26 And the superscription1923 of his accusation156 was written1924 over,1924 THE KING935 OF THE JEWS.2453

27 And with him they crucify4717 two1417 thieves;3027 the one1520 on1537 his right1188 hand, and the other1520 on1537 his left.2176

28 And the scripture1124 was fulfilled,4137 which3588 said,3004 And he was numbered3049 with the transgressors.459

29 And they that passed3899 by railed987 on him, wagging2795 their heads,2776 and saying,3004 Ah,3758 you that destroy2647 the temple,3485 and build3618 it in three5140 days,2250

30 Save4982 yourself,4572 and come2597 down2597 from the cross.4716

31 Likewise3668 also2532 the chief749 priests749 mocking1702 said3004 among4314 themselves240 with the scribes,1122 He saved4982 others;243 himself1438 he cannot3756 1410 save.4982

32 Let Christ5547 the King935 of Israel2474 descend2597 now3568 from the cross,4716 that we may see1492 and believe.4100 And they that were crucified4957 with him reviled3679 him.

33 And when the sixth1623 hour5610 was come,1096 there was darkness4655 over1909 the whole3650 land1095 until2193 the ninth1766 hour.5610

34 And at the ninth1766 hour5610 Jesus2424 cried994 with a loud3173 voice,5456 saying,3004 Eloi,1682 Eloi,1682 lama2982 sabachthani?4518 which3739 is, being interpreted,3177 My God,2316 my God,2316 why1519 5101 have you forsaken1459 me?

35 And some5100 of them that stood3936 by, when they heard191 it, said,3004 Behold,2400 he calls5455 Elias.2243

36 And one1520 ran5143 and filled1072 a sponge4699 full of vinegar,3690 and put4060 it on4060 a reed,2563 and gave4222 him to drink,4222 saying,3004 Let863 alone;863 let us see1492 whether1487 Elias2243 will come2064 to take2507 him down.2507

37 And Jesus2424 cried863 with a loud3173 voice,5456 and gave up the ghost.1606

38 And the veil2665 of the temple3485 was rent4977 in two1417 from the top509 to the bottom.2736

39 And when the centurion,2760 which3588 stood3936 over1537 1727 against1537 1727 him, saw1492 that he so3779 cried2896 out, and gave up the ghost,1606 he said,2036 Truly230 this3778 man444 was the Son5207 of God.2316

40 There were also2532 women1135 looking2334 on afar3113 off:575 among1722 whom3739 was Mary3137 Magdalene,3094 and Mary3137 the mother3384 of James2385 the less3398 and of Joses,2500 and Salome;4539

41 (Who3739 also,2532 when3753 he was in Galilee,1056 followed190 him, and ministered1247 to him;) and many4183 other243 women which3588 came4872 up with him to Jerusalem.2414

42 And now2235 when the even3798 was come,1096 because1893 it was the preparation,3904 that is, the day before4315 the sabbath,4315

43 Joseph2501 of Arimathaea,707 an honorable2158 counselor,1010 which3739 846 also2532 waited4327 for the kingdom932 of God,2316 came,2064 and went1525 in boldly5111 to Pilate,4091 and craved154 the body4983 of Jesus.2424

44 And Pilate4091 marveled2296 if1487 he were already2235 dead:2348 and calling4341 to him the centurion,2760 he asked1905 him whether1487 he had been any while3819 dead.599

45 And when he knew1097 it of the centurion,2760 he gave1433 the body4983 to Joseph.2501

46 And he bought59 fine linen,4616 and took2507 him down,2507 and wrapped1750 him in the linen,4616 and laid2698 him in a sepulcher3419 which3739 was hewn2998 out of a rock,4073 and rolled4351 a stone3037 to the door2374 of the sepulcher.3419

47 And Mary3137 Magdalene3094 and Mary3137 the mother of Joses2500 beheld2334 where4226 he was laid.5087

Chapter 15

1 AND immediately in the morning the high priests took counsel together with the elders and the scribes and with the whole council; and they bound Jesus and took him away, and delivered him to Pilate the governor.

2 And Pilate asked him, Are you the King of the Jews? He answered and said to him, You say that.

3 And the high priests accused him of many things.

4 Then Pilate asked again and said to him, Do you not answer? see, how many are testifying against you.

5 But Jesus gave no answer, so that Pilate marvelled.

6 Now it was the custom on every feast to release to them one prisoner, whom they asked for.

7 There was one called Bar-Abbas, who was bound with those who made insurrection, and who had committed murder during the insurrection.

8 And the people cried out, and began to ask, to do for them according to the custom.

9 Pilate answered and said, Are you willing that I release to you the King of the Jews?

10 For Pilate knew that the high priests had delivered him because of envy.

11 But the high priests incited the people the more, that he should release Bar-Abbas to them.

12 Pilate said to them, What then do you wish me to do to this man whom you call ôthe King of the Jewsö?

13 And they cried out again, Crucify him!

14 Then Pilate said to them, What evil has he done? but they cried aloud the more, Crucify him!

15 Now Pilate wanted to do the will of the people; so he released Bar-Abbas to them, and he delivered to them Jesus, scourged, to be crucified.

16 Then the soldiers took him to the inner courtyard, which is the Praetorium; and they called together the whole company.

17 And they dressed him in purple, and wove a crown of thorns and put it on him.

18 And they began to salute him, Hail, O King of the Jews.

19 And they stuck him on his head with a reed, and spat on his face, and knelt on their knees and worshipped him.

20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple, and put on him his own clothes, and took him out to crucify him.

21 And they compelled one who was passing by, Simon the Cyrenian, who was coming from the field, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross.

22 And they brought him to Golgotha, a place which is interpreted The Skull.

23 And they gave him to drink wine mixed with myrrh; but he would not take it.

24 And when they had crucified him, they divided his clothes, and cast lots on them, what each man should take.

25 It was the third hour when they crucified him.

26 And the reason for his death was inscribed in writing, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

27 And they crucified with him two bandits, one on his right and one on his left.

28 And the scripture was fulfilled which said, He was reckoned with the wicked.

29 Even those who passed by blasphemed against him, nodding their heads and saying, O destroyer of the temple and builder of it in three days,

30 Deliver yourself and come down from the cross.

31 The high priests likewise were laughing among themselves, with the scribes, and saying, He saved others; but he cannot save himself.

32 ôO Christ, the King of Israel!ö let him now come down from the cross, so that we may see and believe in him. Even those who were crucified with him reproached him.

33 And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over all the land, until the ninth hour.

34 And at the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and said, Eli, Eli, Lmana, shabachthani! which means, My God, my God, for this I was kept!

35 Some of the men who were standing by, when they heard it, said, He called for Elijah.

36 And one ran and filled a sponge with vinegar, and tied it on a reed to give him a drink; and he said, Hush, let us see if Elijah will come to take him down.

37 But Jesus cried with a loud voice, and the end came.

38 And the door curtains of the temple were rent in two, from the top to the bottom.

39 And when the centurion, who stood by near him, saw that he cried out in this manner and passed away, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.

40 There were also women who were looking from afar, Mary of Magdala, and Mary the mother of James the young and of Joses, and Salome;

41 Who had followed him, when he was in Galilee, and ministered to him; and many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem.

42 And when it was Friday evening, which is before the sabbath,

43 There came Joseph of Arimathaea, an honorable counsellor, who was also waiting for the kingdom of God; and he dared and went to Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus.

44 But Pilate marvelled that he was already dead. So he called the centurion and asked him if he had died before the time.

45 And when he learned it, he gave the body to Joseph.

46 And Joseph bought linen, and took him down and wrapped him in it, and laid him in a tomb which was hewn in a rock; and he rolled a stone against the door of the tomb.

47 But Mary of Magdala and Mary the mother of Joses, saw where he was laid.

9 But Pilate4091 answered611 them, saying,3004 Will2309 you that I release630 to you the King935 of the Jews?2453

9 Pilate answered and said, Are you willing that I release to you the King of the Jews?

13 And they cried2896 out again,3825 Crucify4717 him.

13 And they cried out again, Crucify him!

14 Then Pilate said to them, What evil has he done? but they cried aloud the more, Crucify him!

15 And so Pilate,4091 willing1014 to content2425 the people,3793 released630 Barabbas912 to them, and delivered3860 Jesus,2424 when he had scourged5417 him, to be crucified.4717

15 Now Pilate wanted to do the will of the people; so he released Bar-Abbas to them, and he delivered to them Jesus, scourged, to be crucified.

16 And the soldiers4757 led520 him away520 into2080 the hall,833 called3739 2076 Praetorium;4232 and they call4779 together4779 the whole3650 band.4686

20 And when3753 they had mocked1702 him, they took1562 off609 the purple4209 from him, and put1746 his own2398 clothes2440 on1746 him, and led1806 him out to crucify4717 him.

20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple, and put on him his own clothes, and took him out to crucify him.

21 And they compel29 one5100 Simon4613 a Cyrenian,2956 who passed3855 by, coming2064 out of the country,68 the father3962 of Alexander223 and Rufus,4504 to bear142 his cross.4716

30 Save4982 yourself,4572 and come2597 down2597 from the cross.4716

30 Deliver yourself and come down from the cross.

31 Likewise3668 also2532 the chief749 priests749 mocking1702 said3004 among4314 themselves240 with the scribes,1122 He saved4982 others;243 himself1438 he cannot3756 1410 save.4982

31 The high priests likewise were laughing among themselves, with the scribes, and saying, He saved others; but he cannot save himself.

33 And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over all the land, until the ninth hour.

34 And at the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and said, Eli, Eli, Lmana, shabachthani! which means, My God, my God, for this I was kept!

35 And some5100 of them that stood3936 by, when they heard191 it, said,3004 Behold,2400 he calls5455 Elias.2243

35 Some of the men who were standing by, when they heard it, said, He called for Elijah.

36 And one ran and filled a sponge with vinegar, and tied it on a reed to give him a drink; and he said, Hush, let us see if Elijah will come to take him down.

37 And Jesus2424 cried863 with a loud3173 voice,5456 and gave up the ghost.1606

37 But Jesus cried with a loud voice, and the end came.

38 And the veil2665 of the temple3485 was rent4977 in two1417 from the top509 to the bottom.2736

38 And the door curtains of the temple were rent in two, from the top to the bottom.

39 And when the centurion,2760 which3588 stood3936 over1537 1727 against1537 1727 him, saw1492 that he so3779 cried2896 out, and gave up the ghost,1606 he said,2036 Truly230 this3778 man444 was the Son5207 of God.2316

39 And when the centurion, who stood by near him, saw that he cried out in this manner and passed away, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.

40 There were also2532 women1135 looking2334 on afar3113 off:575 among1722 whom3739 was Mary3137 Magdalene,3094 and Mary3137 the mother3384 of James2385 the less3398 and of Joses,2500 and Salome;4539

40 There were also women who were looking from afar, Mary of Magdala, and Mary the mother of James the young and of Joses, and Salome;
