Chapter 25

Now3767 when Festus5347 was come1910 into the province,1885 after3326 three5140 days2250 he ascended305 from Caesarea2542 to Jerusalem.2414

Then1161 the high749 priest749 and the chief4413 of the Jews2453 informed1718 him against2596 Paul,3972 and sought3870 him,

And desired154 favor5485 against2596 him, that he would send3343 for him to Jerusalem,2419 laying4160 wait4160 1747 in the way3598 to kill337 him.

But Festus5347 answered,611 that Paul3972 should be kept5083 at1722 Caesarea,2542 and that he himself1438 would3195 depart1607 shortly1722 5034 thither.

Let them therefore,3767 said5346 he, which among1722 you are able,1415 go4782 down4782 with me, and accuse2723 this846 man,435 if1487 there be any1536 wickedness824 in him.

And when he had tarried1304 among1722 them more4119 than2228 ten1176 days,2250 he went2597 down2597 to Caesarea;2542 and the next1887 day1887 sitting2523 on1909 the judgment968 seat968 commanded2753 Paul3972 to be brought.71

And when he was come,3854 the Jews2453 which came2597 down2597 from Jerusalem2414 stood4026 round4026 about,3936 and laid5342 many4183 and grievous926 complaints157 against2596 Paul,3972 which3588 they could2480 not prove.584

While he answered626 for himself, Neither3777 against1519 the law3551 of the Jews,2453 neither3777 against1519 the temple,2411 nor3777 yet against1519 Caesar,2541 have I offended264 any5100 thing at all.

But Festus,5347 willing2309 to do2698 the Jews2453 a pleasure,5485 answered611 Paul,3972 and said,2036 Will you go305 up to Jerusalem,2414 and there1563 be judged2919 of these5130 things before1909 me?

Then1161 said2036 Paul,3972 I stand2476 at1909 Caesar's2541 judgment968 seat,968 where3757 I ought1163 to be judged:2919 to the Jews2453 have I done91 no3762 wrong,91 as you very2566 well2573 know.1921

For if1487 I be an offender,91 or2532 have committed4238 any5100 thing worthy514 of death,2288 I refuse3868 not to die:599 but if1487 there be none3762 of these things whereof3739 these3778 accuse2723 me, no3762 man3762 may1410 deliver5483 me to them. I appeal1941 to Caesar.2541

Then5119 Festus,5347 when he had conferred4814 with the council,4824 answered,611 Have you appealed1941 to Caesar?2541 to Caesar2541 shall you go.4198

And after1230 certain5100 days2250 king935 Agrippa67 and Bernice959 came2658 to Caesarea2542 to salute782 Festus.5347

And when5613 they had been1304 there1563 many4119 days,2250 Festus5347 declared394 Paul's3972 cause3588 2596 to the king,935 saying,3004 There is a certain5100 man435 left2641 in bonds1198 by Felix:5344

About4012 whom,3739 when I was at1519 Jerusalem,2414 the chief749 priests749 and the elders4245 of the Jews2453 informed1718 me, desiring154 to have judgment1349 against2596 him.

To whom3739 I answered,611 It is not the manner1485 of the Romans4514 to deliver5483 any5100 man444 to die,684 before4250 that he which is accused2723 have2192 the accusers2725 face4383 to face,4383 and have2983 license5117 to answer627 for himself concerning4012 the crime1462 laid1462 against him.

Therefore,3767 when they were come4905 here,1759 without3367 4160 any3362 delay311 on1909 the morrow1836 I sat2523 on1909 the judgment968 seat,968 and commanded2753 the man435 to be brought71 forth.

Against4012 whom3739 when the accusers2725 stood2476 up, they brought2018 none3762 accusation156 of such things as I supposed:5282

But had2192 certain5100 questions2213 against4314 him of their own2398 superstition,1175 and of one5100 Jesus,2424 which was dead,2348 whom3739 Paul3972 affirmed5335 to be alive.2198

And because I doubted639 of such manner4012 of questions,2214 I asked3004 him whether1487 he would go4198 to Jerusalem,2419 and there1563 be judged2919 of these5130 matters.

But when Paul3972 had appealed1941 to be reserved5083 to the hearing1233 of Augustus,828 I commanded2753 him to be kept5083 till2193 I might send3992 him to Caesar.2541

Then1161 Agrippa67 said5346 to Festus,5347 I would also2532 hear191 the man444 myself. To morrow,839 said5346 he, you shall hear191 him.

And on the morrow,1887 when Agrippa67 was come,2064 and Bernice,959 with great4183 pomp,5325 and was entered1525 into1519 the place201 of hearing,201 with the chief5506 captains,5506 and principal3588 2596 1851 5607 men435 of the city,4172 at Festus'5347 commandment2753 Paul3972 was brought71 forth.

And Festus5347 said,5346 King935 Agrippa,67 and all3956 men435 which3588 are here4840 present4840 with us, you see2334 this5126 man, about4012 whom3739 all3956 the multitude4128 of the Jews2453 have2983 dealt1793 with me, both5037 at1722 Jerusalem,2414 and also here,1759 crying1916 that he ought1163 not to live2198 any3371 longer.3371

But when I found2638 that he had committed4238 nothing3367 worthy514 of death,2288 and that he himself848 has appealed1941 to Augustus,828 I have2983 determined2919 to send3992 him.

Of whom3739 I have2192 no3756 certain804 thing to write1125 to my lord.2962 Why1352 I have brought4254 him forth4254 before1909 you, and specially3122 before1909 you, O king935 Agrippa,67 that, after examination351 had,1096 I might have2192 somewhat5100 to write.1125

For it seems1380 to me unreasonable249 to send3992 a prisoner,1198 and not with to signify4591 the crimes156 laid against2596 him.
