Chapter 19

1 And Jesus entered1525 and passed1330 through1330 Jericho.2410

2 And, behold,2400 there was a man435 named2564 Zacchaeus,2195 which2532 846 was the chief754 among the publicans,754 and he was rich.4145

3 And he sought2212 to see1492 Jesus2424 who5101 he was; and could1410 not for the press,3793 because3754 he was little3398 of stature.2244

4 And he ran4390 before,1715 and climbed305 up into1909 a sycomore4809 tree4809 to see1492 him: for he was to pass1330 that way.

5 And when5613 Jesus2424 came2064 to the place,5117 he looked308 up, and saw1492 him, and said2036 to him, Zacchaeus,2195 make4692 haste,4692 and come2597 down;2597 for to day4594 I must1163 abide3306 at1722 your house.3624

6 And he made4692 haste,4692 and came2597 down,2597 and received5264 him joyfully.5463

7 And when they saw1492 it, they all537 murmured,1234 saying,3004 That he was gone1525 to be guest2647 with a man435 that is a sinner.268

8 And Zacchaeus2195 stood,2476 and said2036 to the Lord:2962 Behold,2400 Lord,2962 the half2255 of my goods5224 I give1325 to the poor;4434 and if1487 I have taken any5100 thing from any1536 man by false4811 accusation,4811 I restore591 him fourfold.5073

9 And Jesus2424 said2036 to him, This4594 day4594 is salvation4991 come1096 to this5129 house,3624 as much2530 as he also2532 is a son5207 of Abraham.11

10 For the Son5207 of man444 is come2064 to seek2212 and to save4982 that which was lost.622

11 And as they heard191 these5023 things, he added4369 and spoke2036 a parable,3850 because1223 he was near1451 to Jerusalem,2419 and because they thought1380 that the kingdom932 of God2316 should3195 immediately3916 appear.398

12 He said2036 therefore,3767 A certain5100 nobleman2104 444 went4198 into1519 a far3117 country5561 to receive2983 for himself1438 a kingdom,932 and to return.5290

13 And he called2564 his ten1176 servants,1401 and delivered1325 them ten1176 pounds,3414 and said2036 to them, Occupy4231 till2193 I come.2064

14 But his citizens4177 hated3404 him, and sent649 a message4242 after3694 him, saying,3004 We will2309 not have this5126 man to reign936 over1909 us.

15 And it came1096 to pass, that when1722 3588 he was returned,1880 having received2983 the kingdom,932 then2532 he commanded2036 these5128 servants1401 to be called5455 to him, to whom3739 he had given1325 the money,694 that he might know1097 how5101 much every5101 man had gained1281 by trading.1281

16 Then1161 came3854 the first,4413 saying,3004 Lord,2962 your pound3414 has gained4333 ten1176 pounds.3414

17 And he said2036 to him, Well,2095 you good18 servant:1401 because3754 you have been1096 faithful4103 in a very1646 little,1646 have2192 you authority1849 over1883 ten1176 cities.4172

18 And the second1208 came,2064 saying,3004 Lord,2962 your pound3414 has gained4160 five4002 pounds.3414

19 And he said2036 likewise2532 to him, Be you also2532 over1883 five4002 cities.4172

20 And another2087 came,2064 saying,3004 Lord,2962 behold,2400 here is your pound,3414 which3739 I have2192 kept2192 laid606 up in a napkin:4676

21 For I feared5399 you, because3754 you are an austere840 man:444 you take142 up that you layed5087 not down, and reap2325 that you did not sow.4687

22 And he said3004 to him, Out of your4675 own mouth4750 will I judge2919 you, you wicked4190 servant.1401 You knew1492 that I was an austere840 man,444 taking142 up that I laid5087 not down, and reaping2325 that I did not sow:4687

23 Why1302 then2532 gave1325 not you my money694 into1909 the bank,5132 that at my coming2064 I might have required4238 my846 own with usury?5110

24 And he said2036 to them that stood3936 by, Take142 from him the pound,3414 and give1325 it to him that has2192 ten1176 pounds.3414

25 (And they said2036 to him, Lord,2962 he has2192 ten1176 pounds.3414)

26 For I say3004 to you, That to every3956 one which3588 has2192 shall be given;1325 and from him that has2192 not, even2532 that he has2192 shall be taken142 away from him.

27 But those1565 my3450 enemies,2190 which3588 would2309 not that I should reign936 over1909 them, bring71 here,5602 and slay2695 them before1715 me.

28 And when he had thus5023 spoken,2036 he went4198 before,1715 ascending305 up to Jerusalem.2414

29 And it came1096 to pass, when5613 he was come1448 near1448 to Bethphage967 and Bethany,963 at4314 the mount3735 called2564 the mount of Olives,1636 he sent649 two1417 of his disciples,3101

30 Saying,2036 Go5217 you into1519 the village2968 over2713 against2713 you; in the which3739 at your entering1531 you shall find2147 a colt4454 tied,1210 where on1909 3739 yet never3762 man444 sat:2523 loose3089 him, and bring71 him here.

31 And if1437 any5100 man ask2065 you, Why1302 do you loose3089 him? thus3779 shall you say2046 to him, Because3754 the Lord2962 has2192 need5532 of him.

32 And they that were sent649 went565 their way, and found2147 even2531 as he had said2036 to them.

33 And as they were loosing3089 the colt,4454 the owners2962 thereof said2036 to them, Why5101 loose3089 you the colt?4454

34 And they said,2036 The Lord2962 has2192 need5532 of him.

35 And they brought71 him to Jesus:2424 and they cast1977 their garments2440 on the colt,4454 and they set1913 Jesus2424 thereon.1913

36 And as he went,4198 they spread5291 their clothes2440 in the way.3598

37 And when he was come1448 near,1448 even2536 now2235 at4314 the descent2600 of the mount3735 of Olives,1636 the whole537 multitude4128 of the disciples3101 began756 to rejoice5463 and praise134 God2316 with a loud3173 voice5456 for all3956 the mighty1411 works that they had seen;1492

38 Saying,3004 Blessed2127 be the King935 that comes2064 in the name3686 of the Lord:2962 peace1515 in heaven,3772 and glory1391 in the highest.5310

39 And some5100 of the Pharisees5330 from among the multitude3793 said2036 to him, Master,1320 rebuke2008 your disciples.3101

40 And he answered611 and said2036 to them, I tell3004 you that, if1437 these3778 should hold4623 their peace,4623 the stones3037 would immediately cry2896 out.

41 And when5613 he was come1448 near,1448 he beheld1492 the city,4172 and wept2799 over1909 it,

42 Saying,3004 If1487 you had known,1097 even2532 you, at1065 least2534 in this5026 your day,2250 the things which belong to your peace!1515 but now3568 they are hid2928 from your4675 eyes.3788

43 For the days2250 shall come2240 on you, that your4675 enemies2190 shall cast4016 a trench5482 about4016 you, and compass4033 you round,4033 and keep4912 you in on3840 every3840 side,3840

44 And shall lay1474 you even with the ground,1474 and your children5043 within1722 you; and they shall not leave863 in you one stone3037 on another; because473 3739 you knew1097 not the time2540 of your visitation.1984

45 And he went1525 into1519 the temple,2411 and began756 to cast1544 out them that sold4453 therein,1722 846 and them that bought;59

46 Saying3004 to them, It is written,1125 My house3624 is the house3624 of prayer:4335 but you have made4160 it a den4693 of thieves.3027

47 And he taught2258 1321 daily2596 2250 in the temple.2411 But the chief749 priests749 and the scribes1122 and the chief4413 of the people2992 sought2212 to destroy622 him,

48 And could not find2147 what5101 they might do:4160 for all537 the people2992 were very1582 attentive1582 to hear191 him.

Chapter 19

1 AND when Jesus entered and passed through Jericho,

2 There was a man named Zacchaeus, who was rich and chief of the publicans.

3 And he wanted to see who Jesus was; but he could not because of the crowd, for Zacchaeus was small in his stature.

4 So he ran ahead of Jesus, and climbed up into a fig tree without leaves, that he might see him, because he was to pass that way.

5 When Jesus came to that place, he saw him and said to him, Make haste, come down, O Zacchaeus, for today I must remain in your house.

6 And he hastened, and came down, and welcomed him with joy.

7 Now when they all saw it, they murmured, saying, He has entered to stay in the house of a sinner.

8 But Zacchaeus rose up and said to Jesus, Behold, my Lord, half of my wealth I will give to the poor; and I will pay fourfold to every man from whom I have extorted.

9 Jesus said to him, Today life has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham.

10 For the Son of man came to seek and save that which was lost.

11 While they were listening to these things, he added and spoke a parable, because he was near Jerusalem, and they were expecting that the kingdom of God would appear at that very hour;

12 And he said, A great man of a noble family went to a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and return.

13 And he called his ten servants, and gave them ten pounds, and said to them, Do business until I come back.

14 But the people of his city hated him, and sent messengers after him, saying, We do not want him to rule over us.

15 And when he received the kingdom and returned, he commanded to call his servants, to whom he had given the money, that he might know what each one of them had gained in business.

16 The first one came and said, My lord, your pound has gained ten pounds.

17 He said to him, O good servant, because you are found faithful in a little, you will have charge over ten talents. *

18 And the second came and said, My lord, your pound has gained five pounds.

19 He said to this one also, You also will have charge over five talents.

20 And another one came and said, My lord, here is your pound which was with me, which I kept laid up in a purse.

21 For I was afraid of you, because you are a harsh man; you pick up what you have not laid down, and you reap what you have not sown.

22 He said to him, I will judge you from your own mouth, O wicked servant. You knew me that I am a harsh man, and pick up what I have not laid down, and reap what I have not sown.

23 Why then did you not give my money to the exchange, so that when I came I could demand it with its interest?

24 And he said to those who stood in his presence, Take away the pound from him, and give it to him who has ten pounds.

25 They said to him, Our lord, he has already with him ten pounds.

26 He said to them, I say to you, to everyone who has shall be given; and from him who has not, even that which he has will be taken away from him.

27 But those my enemies, who were not willing that I should rule over them, bring them here, and kill them before me.

28 And when Jesus had said these things, he went forward to go to Jerusalem.

29 And when he arrived at Bethphage and Bethany, on the side of the mountain which is called the Home of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,

30 And he said to them, Go to the village which is in front of us; and when you enter it you will find a colt tied up, on which no man has ever ridden; untie it and bring it.

31 And if any man should ask you, Why do you untie it? tell him this: Our lord needs it.

32 And those who were sent went away, and found just as he had told them.

33 And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, Why do you untie the colt?

34 And they said to them, Our Lord needs it.

35 And they brought it to Jesus; and they put their garments on the colt, and they set Jesus on it.

36 And as he went on, they spread their garments on the road.

37 And when he came near to the descent of the Mount of the Home of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice, praising God with a loud voice, for all the miracles which they had seen,

38 Saying, Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord; peace in heaven and glory in the highest.

39 But some of the men of the Pharisees who were in the multitude said to him, Teacher, rebuke your disciples.

40 He said to them, I say to you, that if these should keep silent, the stones would cry out.

41 And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it;

42 And he said, If you had only known those who are concerned in your peace, even in this your day! but now they are hidden from your eyes.

43 But the days will come to you, when your enemies will surround you, and oppress you from every place,

44 And will overthrow you, and your children within you; and they will not leave in you a stone upon a stone; because you did not know the time when you were to be visited.

45 And when he entered the temple, he began to put out those who were buying and selling in it;

46 And he said to them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer; but you have made it a cave of bandits.

47 And he taught every day in the temple. But the high priests and the scribes and the elders of the people sought to get rid of him;

48 But they were not able to find what to do to him; for all the people hung around him to hear him.

8 But Zacchaeus rose up and said to Jesus, Behold, my Lord, half of my wealth I will give to the poor; and I will pay fourfold to every man from whom I have extorted.

9 And Jesus2424 said2036 to him, This4594 day4594 is salvation4991 come1096 to this5129 house,3624 as much2530 as he also2532 is a son5207 of Abraham.11

9 Jesus said to him, Today life has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham.

28 And when he had thus5023 spoken,2036 he went4198 before,1715 ascending305 up to Jerusalem.2414

28 And when Jesus had said these things, he went forward to go to Jerusalem.

29 And it came1096 to pass, when5613 he was come1448 near1448 to Bethphage967 and Bethany,963 at4314 the mount3735 called2564 the mount of Olives,1636 he sent649 two1417 of his disciples,3101

29 And when he arrived at Bethphage and Bethany, on the side of the mountain which is called the Home of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,
